      Hi Talon, thanks. As I mentioned before, I haven’t been much of a skier, however I really enjoy watching you and your friends carve it up! It’s a shame, since we’ve lived in Boise, ID for the past 25 years and there’s a ski resort and lifts about 20 minutes from my house. The only times I’ve been up has been when the kids were in school and I joined them. I think I’ve found my new winter sport! I’m going to get outfitted and give it a shot next year.

    For any beginner skiers struggling with the transition to parallel skiing I can recommend spending a day on skiboards/snowblades. It will help you through the process - get back on your normal carving skis the next day and you'll see an immediate progression.

    Thanks to this Vid I really progressed fast. I'm an advanced snowboarder for around 15 years, and transitioned to skiing and purchased Skiboards as my first skis having never been on skis before. Last season I had a gang of average Skiers tell me what I'm doing wrong I said these are not your standard Skis. Now I'm ripping hard because of the slide to carve explanation in this vid. Just Went over to standard all-mountain skis this November 2021 and shut all those average Skiers up. They have nothing to say this year.

    Ripping up here in Alaska on snowblades, Hagan "off limits" skiboards and shorty Sir Francis Bacons, I ski stuff up here that some folks have a hard time believing. I like the challenge of the smaller sweet spot and really centering my weight and balance. I modified my Merrel Flash boot to accommodate the bail bindings for late spring/summer riding for minimal weight and fast laps, rip 'n snort!

    Thanks Talon, Dave, Kirk and crew - - I'm starving for some slarving!! Good info even for a 72 yr old skiboarder since 1996!! Now for the snowboarders like Kenny Carter (post below), we need to hook em with Snowboard boots and bindings --#1 so they can do both on the same day in their snowboard boots #2 with the idea that skiboarders have their legs free and don't take time mess with bindings all day #3 most of us don't use poles and can move around better than snowboarders - - I believe we have a better target market with both expert and former snowboarders than most skiers. Non-release only for me. Lighter boots, the older I get. RVL8 -- i hand out more cards to snowboarders than skiers at Baldy and Mountain High in SoCal.

      Snowblades or skiboards is definitely the easiest.
      I took my 70 year old mother skiing this week and she managed to ride snowblades. Salomon 99cm model. I had buy ski poles to help her with balance. But ski poles are not needed once you get the feeling of the ride.
      It was her very first time on moderate level lift. I think skiboards are even easier because of more width.

      You can slide with skiboards EXACTLY as you would do with skis. I try to get the same feeling with both. I use the skiboards to tune my bump skiing technique and then translate the motion to skis. The skiboards help me to maintain a more balanced stance (i.e., not being in the back seat), and rotate my legs to rotate my skis without much rotation of my upper body. Most of skiing is within your head. The skiboards allow me to dive into my turns with more confidence.

    🙋‍♀️ question, I’m an occasional skier that goes skiing once a year a couple times each winter season. I’ve been skiing since I was young and my skills are pretty good (I can go on any slope straight down without falling lol). I’ve skateboarded also for a number of years. Talon - I was inspired by your many videos and just bought my first skiboards. When carving are you able to weight your skiboards more evenly than longer skis where most will say to heavily weight the downhill ski?

    • @1Picture1000Words
      @1Picture1000Words 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With regular skis, one wants to move from ski to ski while directing pressure to the outside ski (that would be the downhill ski at the end of the turn). I find that this same technique also works well with my skiboards. Tilting uphill puts your weight on the uphill ski at the end of the turn. In skiing, one wants to have one's weight on the downhill ski at the end of the turn. This is accomplished by forming an angle with your body. Think that your shoulders want to be level with the slope. We call that angulation. This creates a higher edge angle between the skis and the snow which facilitate better carving.
