    FAQs
    1. Do you still ride for RVL8?
    Yes! Meet the rest of the Pro Riders here
    www.rvl8skiboar...
    2. I am 200+ lbs. Can I still ride?
    Yes! Like I stated in the video, KTPs would be a great option. You will want a stiffer board like those and most likely non-release bindings.
    3. No poles? Can I use them?
    NO POLES! lol but yes you could use them if you really want but that defeats the purpose and freedom of riding Skiboards in the first place. Learn how to push and use your edges and you will never pick up a pair of poles again.
    4. Is it like rollerblading?
    Similar in the skating movements but other than that it is closer to skiing than anything else.

    I got my first pair of Solomon SnowBlades back in 1998 and now I’m getting back into the sport and I’m going to pick up some Rvl8 for next season. I can’t stop watching your videos.

    Great explanation, Talon. Thanks for helping keep the sport alive!
    I started with Snowblades. I don't regret a thing. Rode them one season then got some 89cm MNP's (conehead model) in 1998. A few years ago, I picked up some DLP's. Now I've started collecting skiboards so I can start my friends on something a little better than the Snowblades. That said, those little Solomons put in some work converting my friends to skiboarding. Theres a lot to be said for the easy adjustability of the Snowblade binding.

    Thank you for sharing this! Just finished up at Bear Mountain & I was the only one out there with skiboards. I have Line Weapons. I dusted them off after 20+ years & they were perfect after a fresh wax. I had a blast! The non-release bindings can be scary after a fall. I ran into my daughter’s snowboard after she fell, I wiped out & thankfully didn’t hurt my leg too bad. Kept going! I’ll share my GoPro footage soon.

    Thanks for the content, super helpful. I had no desire to ski and being old AF and really didn’t want to try snowboarding again (been 20 years or so). Grabbed a used set of beaters and there was almost no learning curve to a day of enjoyment on groomed slopes. I’ve been ice skating for over 30 years so guessing that’s why it felt so natural. But never would have gotten a pair of boards without this video.

    But here I am...watching Talon Sei describe the fine art of ski boarding. Of course I watch anything Talon brings to us as a topic, since he does such a great job at delivering and describing the product. I do understand why companies would want to sponsor or partner with him. Those are some pretty sharp companies for realizing their products(s) will be well represented and reach a broad audience!

    I think you'd be surprised at the number of non casual skiers that prefer bigfeet or snowblades. Our race team, guys that were doing everything from freestyle to downhill, loved how tiny and portable they were in the 90s/early 00s. Yeah you'd see a lot of vacation skiers riding them near the lifts but the real OGs knew that the most fun you could have on a day off from training was tackling Jupiter or the back country on a pair of bigfeet. Super mobile in the trees, let you do a mix of running/skiing, could toss them in a backpack, zero leg fatigue on the lifts before ski rests were a thing, no need for poles, made wrecks far less likely to hurt your knees (huge issue), and were generally the best escape ever. The "quality" was pretty irrelevant. They held up fine. The giant skiboards were for east coast park nuts who didn't have any real mountains to explore and didn't have enough piercings or tattoos to fit in at the skate park.

    I am skiboarding in Korea. There is also a skiboard club that is over 15 years old. I'm always watching it well. In Korea, there were many skiers who called skiboard as blades, so we often argued.

  • @Jerhomie03
    @Jerhomie03 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ski boards are fun, but there are some honest downsides over full length skis:
    -less control at high speeds
    -less surface area for traversing in powder
    -constantly needing to explain what they are to people
    For spring skiing through the trees, ski boards are hard to beat. For super deep power days, full length skis have so much more float are much more fun for me than even my super wide RVL8 Blunts.

    • @TalonSei
      @TalonSei  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Counter points to what you believe are negatives.
      1.) I haven’t met a skier on the mountain who can keep up with our top speed runs (80mph so far shown in my pervious videos) Control is all about the rider.
      2.) The condors and Rockered condors which I have shown in this video provide a wider underfoot than most skis on the market today. Float in powder is absolutely no issue with the correct boards and a skilled rider.
      3.) Informing people about Skiboards is only a downside to people who do not Skiboard.
      I have a solid pow day video coming next Tuesday and there are plenty in the playlist if you want to see how they actually perform.

    • @Jerhomie03
      @Jerhomie03 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TalonSei Haha, yeah, if you have the right rider you can do anything, but my points are less about individual skill and more about the physics of the tool. Full-length skis provide more surface area, and longer edges.
      1) OPTIMIZE FOR FUN: The real argument should be about picking what's most FUN. The things that make skiboarding fun for me are:
      -More nimble, shorter boards make narrow trees a blast
      -Tricks, easier to spin, and more forgiving on falls
      -Learning, I learned to ride switch on skiboards
      -No poles, so you can do things with your hands and mess around or help out a friend/kid who's learning to ski
      2) FOR POWDER DAYS: Skiboards are fine if you do zero traversings. Where I ski (Squaw/Alpine), the best terrain is a short traverse away, and that's near impossible to do with skiboards on a deep day. You need more float, and you need poles. But you're right, I haven't tried the rockered condors, and maybe those would change my mind.
      3) REPETITIVE SMALLTALK: it's really f'ing annoying when you have to keep taking your headphones out to talk to idiots on every lift who are like "WHAT ARE THOSE THINGS!?!!?!" Some people are happy to evangelize, but it gets old for me after the 2nd or 3rd time each day. My RVL8's came with a bunch of square handouts to give to people like this that say something like "These are called SKIBOARDS. Yes, they are fun. Yes, you should get some" so I know I'm not alone here.
      Anyone who thinks skiboards are the best tool for every situation is mistaken. Nevertheless, your videos 3-4 years ago get the credit for introducing me to skiboards, so thank you sir! I'm looking forward to seeing those powder vids!

    Your videos turned me on to skiboarding so much that now I have two pairs even! Started with a pair of Rvl8 Sticky Icky Icky’s for here on the east coast, and then moved to a pair of Blunt XLs, which is like having a snowboard strapped to each foot. I’m a 48 y.o. traditional skier who was falling out of love with skiing, but since discovering skiboards I’ve had more fun in the park and all over the mountain than I’ve ever had before. Skiboarding is a life changer. Shout out to Greco @ Skiboardsonline.com. Thanks :)
    (I swap between snowboard bindings and release bindings with risers - you’re right about release bindings seating you sort of tall, but I’m jumping more than rail sliding so it works out fine. Snowboard boot bindings have a completely different feel and flex and probably work better for traditional snowboarders. I do better with my ski boots. And just bought a pair of Nordica HF 110 rear entry boots that are rock solid super stiff and perfect for my style of skiboarding. I might go to non release bindings now since it’s so easy to slip on my new boots! Hah)

    I’m 57....and been ski boarding for years now....after several decades of skiing. It’s probably the best setup to keep us older guys on the slopes and the avoidance of injuries and just general leg wear for us mature guys wanting to still get out there. I still consistently still seek out the steeper stuff and the shorter length and it’s agileness, saves my legs, for a longer more intense day of fun. (Just got back from the slopes 2 days ago) I ski-board with kids half my age that are on snow boards and also skis, and go wherever they go. So if your getting up there in age and want to continue to shred the Knar-Knar, we’ll into rocking chair days, consider this a whole hearted recommendation. I can see me doing this well into other peoples “ I’ve fallen and broke my hip” days. Ps don’t get me wrong, youngsters can absolutely have a blast on these too, and take it as far as any other snow discipline out there. Thanks for the info, as I think more information on these would obviously help keep these relevant and promote companies to continue in making more of these. Anyway, that’s all for now...

    Rode Line Bullets for a decade starting in the late 90's, loved them. Got rid of them a decade ago, and I regret it. Looking to get back into skiboarding so I can ride the slopes with my pre-teen, the entry cost is so high compared to what I paid for those Bullets in the 90's, bummer.

    I got 2 sets of 99.9cm snowblades, rip 'em all over, even backcountry, (not a gaper), got 2 sets of the Hagan off limits 130cm, killer little ski! Looking to purchase the Spruce slingshot 119cm, I like the set back mounting as I ride fast and softer snow as well. Tried the "center mount" and dont care for it as I do not "jib" in the park but prefer to ski the steeper stuff and away from the gaping masses..

    I have many pairs also. Line (Jason's original ones) (79cm, 89cm, Jedi 89cm, Mike Nick's 99cm- not the graphics you show- mine have a Star Wars graphic) I have Cannons 99 cm, Grooves 99cm, Revel 8's 110cm rocker condors). I love my skiboards (I have been riding them since 1997) and I agree with you 100%, snowblades suck and really, they are unstable and dangerous IMO. Glad to see there are others out there still riding skiboards 😊

    I appreciate the history and descriptions, solid video. I do however disagree with you calling snowblades "junk." I have had my Alpina Magic blades for ages and they perform great for casual skiing no matter the difficulty of the terrain. I ski steeps, moguls, hit big jumps, anything really, and they have held up fine. In fact, last year I bought a new pair of Summit ZR 88cm boards and my wife was using my old blades, then we traded half way through the day. I liked the blades significantly more, mainly because they are lighter and easier to maneuver. I wanted to keep skiing on them, but my wife wanted them back haha! I went on Ebay a few days ago and bought another pair of the Aplina Magic, can't wait to get them. You mention poor snowblade flex in the video, my 99cm Alpina Magic have great flex - I see what you are saying regarding those super-short Solomon blades though.
    Also, my wife is new to skiing. She had tried regular skis at a young age and got so frustrated while learning that she stopped altogether. I introduced her to snowblades and she LOVES IT! She has a petite build, so she the blades work great for her to maneuver because they are so light and small - the big skis had been cumbersome for her to maneuver in the past. She showed dramatic improvement on the mountain quickly. I recommend snowblades/boards to anyone who is hesitant to try skiing due to the learning curve.

    My first set of real ski boards was your version near the end of 2019 /beginning of 2020. Def a huge advancement from the "Head rod" snowblades I used before. Skiboards are soooo much better in powder, and literally everything else. Way more sturdy and well made!

    What do you think of Salomon escape outrack? It’s marketed as a Nordic ski, 120cm and something for the backcountry and cross country. I am 210 pounds and 5’6 and I started looking for a type of skate ski but I found that those are mostly narrow. I’m wanting more of something that’s wide and can go on non-groomed trails because I am going to be in backcountry, putting forth my own track and mostly going in parks.
    I first started looking at bc skis that were 190 CM to 207 CM, but I started thinking about going smaller because I saw the Nordic ski that snowfeet makes. that one’s only 90 CM long and it seems a bit narrow. for my weight, I don’t think I’m going to glide as much with that. It has decent specs in my opinion, but I just don’t see myself going far with that one and I worry about the longevity of it.
    Then I did some more googling, and I found the one by Salomon. It’s a new ski and I’m not finding barely any type of reviews on it yet. The only thing that’s holding me back from getting it is the fact that it uses a skin instead of a fishscale. So I’m curious as to how this Salomon escape outrack could glide over back country. Both of what I mentioned don’t use ski boots. They just go over your regular footwear.
    Hope you reply back. I’m trying to make a decision before our next snowfall here in New York. I will not be going to any ski resorts. I’m the type of person who wants to take my skis on a side street, backyard, parks, hiking trails, so I will be on non-groomed trails. I started looking for shorter stuff because of the terrain that I would be going on. I’m not gonna be able to maneuver with a long ski. That’s why I started looking at shorter bc ski. Salomon’s is 120 cm and I feel that it would handle my weight much more than snowfeet’s nordic ski at 90cm.

    Great video thanks. What about split board ratchet bindings? If someone made a removable skin I could go hiking and camping and possibly find some fun. I could hike like normal and set up my tent. Pull those out and slap them on and fool around. That would really fit my situation.

    I dig the snow boards! I ski a pair of short skis... Head Salamander 94cm with rental bindings... I helped coach snowboarding and skiing for a few year and these were helpful to skate up hill without ski poles to aid beginners,... but now I like skiing with them more than my board or long skis. Sooo much fun in the park and in the tree trails. Mine are not wide enough for the powder though so I need some snow boards! 😁 What are a good pair for groomed trails and some powder, still good for the park though?. I'm about 148 lbs.. maybe 156 to 160 with gear. Great video BTW. Thanks

    I'm a novice skier, just learned how to ski last season. I found dealing with ski boots and poles and skis to be a hassle. I'm someone who in all likelihood is going to ski a handful of times a year at most, with my family. Skiboards and snowblades and ski skates look like a fun alternative with less hassle, especially the ones that use snowboard boot bindings. Is there a entry level or budget skiboard that fits the bill for someone like me (and my kids)? Are these things even available at rental shops?

      Skiboards are shorter and typically wider with true symmetry. You can ride them identically to skis however I can definitely maneuver quicker is really dense trees than most skiers.
