As always it was a great video. One of my clients traded in his AMG GT for a GLS 63 AMG. He says he's getting older, and it was hard for him, to get in and out from the GT. He asked if I wanted to try it, so I did, and in my opinion, everything you said is true, suspension is great, the engine sound is amazing.
Any car that has 'piped in sound' is automatically off of my buy list.. forever.. and ever.. and ever.. no matter what. Btw, people can do VLOGs w/o cam Hats. Regardless, this is a great video.... ty. Cheers!
I like the discussion on steering weight and feel. It has a dramatic impact on my confidence behind the wheel. Cars I've driven lately that come to mind for having great steering would be the Genesis G70 and the Jaguar F-Pace. Both cars had nicely weighted steering - not heavy for the sake of it, but solid - and had some semblance of feedback. I wish more cars steered like that. A lot of cars I drive are super light with their steering while also being quick, which makes them feel overboosted.
A hellcat Durango here in Canada is $170k and the new Escalade V is nearing $260k so I’d definitely swing for a GLS or even save a buck and get an SQ7.
Yea auto start stop for the 4.0 V8, now electrically and not with a normal starter so you won’t hear the excess wear on everything and the, ofc more expensive, 48v battery. There’s a reason Mercedes puts the button to disable it right next to the start button
You should film a POV of how to photograph a car well, I would consider myself an intermediate at photography but I would love to see if you have any tricks up your sleeve
Well hello and now is my time to comment something....I have been watching your channel now maybe half year and i just love this. Very nice cars what you have been driving, but my biggest "problem"😅"if you wanna call it that way" is that the place you live and drive those cars is SO beatiful. I´m just mesmerides for that beayty 🥰. The cars are also very very nice. 😁😅. I my self live in Europe ( Finland ) to be precise and maybe that is the reason i see that beautiful weather and season times there so close to me. BUT this channel is about cars and YES that Mercedes is beast of car. LOVE it. 🤩
You know, what annoys me about the piped-in sound is that, in most of the cars that have it, it's not even necessary. Like, my wife's X3 doesn't have any piped-in sound at all, yet the engine is still audible when it's in Sport mode because there is a valved exhaust system (stock, btw... I can see the valve when I look in the rear exhaust tip on the driver's side). My IS 500 has piped-in sound, but I keep it turned off at all times because it isn't necessary. It is very much audible without it. Is it loud? No... but there is enough there that, even with the windows down at higher speeds, I can still hear at least the induction note. And if nothing else, having more-convincing engine noise would be nice. And here's this GLS which sounds perfectly fine. I don't have any gripes with the sounds it makes. A GLS should not sound better than an AMG GT, or certainly, the GT shouldn't sound fake in comparison.
Totally fair point on the sound showing up in videos more than IRL... Almost every car I've driven with piped-in sound seems worse in a TH-cam video than real life. However, some are still pretty bad in person. For instance, the 330i's I have driven from the latest G20 generation have all been pretty egregious in their faux sounds, particularly in Sport mode. My former Jetta GLI was pretty bad as well, though it sounded like an engine, at least. And I find the IS 500's fake sound to be equally bad in person as in videos, but maybe that's more of a bummer because I know the real induction note that's being masked by the piped-in stuff. :)
Hey Tedward Can you Please do a video sorta comparison between this and the GX460 you had. I completely understand that it's a different class , price point, and capability. But I truly feel both these vehicles offer that tackle and Hyde ( multiple role capability)
I am amused as the image of a car seated toddler geeking out as their caregiver just floors this car. So many use touchscreens on smart phones that all the screens is an obvious input choice. 18 year old me in 1990 would be floored at 600 HP at all the LED screens. It's that 400 HP was the moon long ago and 600 HP can be put on the road safely. All the LEDs look Sci Fi and not C4 Vette meh. My concern is that there is too many functions. I admit that I have executive functioning issues. There are so many procedures that I am a bit overwhelmed. What to do? My other worry is that you take your eyes off the road using a touchscreen for functions.
I'm sorry, but that dashboard design with that fake looking vent to the right of the infotainment screen was ugly when MB first came out with that many years ago, and it's still plain hideous. Just exudes a cheap design. Also, the steering wheel is another poorly designed thing. But I give them credit for still offering that old twin turbo V8.
Why would I lie 😆. You’re witnessing it in the video. You feel some bumps but it’s not violent or uncomfortable. And you can Buy a 580 if you need it to be perfectly plush
@@TedwardDrives Owning a station wagon, it’s better than both vans and SUVs imo. Better visibility than SUVs and look wayyy cooler than vans whilst being almost as practical

Which beastly 3 row SUV would you have? AMG GLS, Escalade V, Durango Hellcat?
AMG GLS, but I'm bias. I've been looking at AMG GLS listings at my area in the past two hours...
Escalade V without a doubt
SQ7 tbh
Only thing I would add would be the Burmester 4D sound system w the 29 speakers.

That interior looks really good and is actually a good mix of screens and real buttons for mercedes in 2024
It only looks good on video. But it feels like cheap crap when you get inside. GL, ML, GLS, GLE were always cheaply made garbage for americans.
That’s because it’s still the old generation. Mercedes will ruin it soon lol
@ That’s damn sad…
I love every 63 model! They all rip and have good comfort at the same time,
You sir are my favorite car reviewer!
This is sick.
The ultimate family SUV.
Awesome review Tom!😊
beautiful paint color
To me, this is thing is more impressive than some supercars
Such a fast and beautiful three row!!!

why do USA spec cars always have those horrible beeps every time you start the car?
even pimp my ride didnt think of putting screen on a steering wheel
We have Lunar blue on our 22 GLE AMG. The blues on mercedes look the best imo
Haha…they even have a remote for „your little guy down here…“ 😂
On the seventh day of Christmas, my Tedward gave to me
7 GLS’s
6 Equinoxes
5 GX’s
4 Grenadiers
3 M5’s
2 Karmann Ghias
And a 250 in a pear tree
Piping in that sound so when they do it on the electrics like Dodge we are immunized to it!

like 3 doors down from Rook is the best donut spot ever - Broad Street Dough Co! (if you're in the area again)
I'll be back and now I know! thank you

Can the fake sound be turned off by any chance ?
how do you know who has the right of way on a parking lot in the US?
Whomever is more willing to have their car keyed goes first
Am I right that new bmw m5 does 0-60 in 3.6 sec?
Thats how a Merc must be driven.....
It's a big car😂. It's suitable for family.
hellos
Businessman don’t like wasting time so the GLS have 603hp to suit businessman speed

SUVs are the worst.
About 15 years late to the party. But I do wish vans were more popular than SUV

@@TedwardDrives It'd be funny if Mercedes brought back the R-class. I'd love to see a modern AMG version of that.
I'm from Germany and we get a Van from Mercedes, it's called the V-Klasse and it's an 8 seater. I don't know if they make an AMG tho.
