I had two inner tire explosions with this bike. My kids were using it with me. Rad put my whole family's lives in danger. They need to keep promised deadlines - it is supposed to have the kits by now, and now they need a date for fixing it. My bike has been parked for 5 months now. It might take 4-6 months more.
Thank you for your comment and I'm sorry to hear this happened to you, especially while your kids were on the bike with you. I didn't speak too much of the potential dangers of the bike but I'll be pinning your comment so those watching this video can read your comment and be aware of the danger of the current tires/rims.
Yeah, great bike, love my Radwagon 4 too, unfortunate about the tire situation. I just put on the Shinko 18 x 2.75 . There heavy, but they fit and work great if you upgrade to a 35amp controller. Its weird that Rad Power bikes measures their tires from the outside when the tire industry pretty much measures from the rim. The Radwagon 4 rim is 18" so owners can shop around for light weight motorcycle tires if they like, and at their own risk suppose.
the recall effected both the rim strip witch can become mis aligned and cause the tube to contact the sharp edges of the spoke holes in the rim and cause the tube to fail and the tire to go flat. the other more critical item is that (while recall did not seem to mention it) after about 1400 miles of use the side wall of the tire tore and the tube can explode. anyone who has ran over a nail or screw and gotten a flat tire the tire usually deflates slow enough you get a warning of low tire because it feels like riding on and off the transition bump along the road between the road and shoulder. where as a blow out is instant and you can lose control of the bike especially if it is the front tire that blows. example in point. i do scrap metal recycling and yard sale runs and the first time the rear tire wore out and the side wall was ripping i ordered a replacement tire and all was good. the second time i had the replacement tire on order and while waiting for the new tire i was coming back from scrap run and rip! bang! the tire blew the rear tire split all the way enough to bulge the tube out and the tube blew. i had to walk the bike home. fortunately i have to go up a hill so i was going slow. unfortunately the rad site is out of stock of the tires however i saw a video where someone used a motorcycle tire Shinko SR241 18 x 2.75 for winter riding. th-cam.com/video/1jQ8iekRGZs/w-d-xo.html. if all the kit consists of is the rim strip and replacement tires it is an easy diy project. the bike is about the only thing that most repairs is simple to diy. i used duck tape and did a couple runs around the rim and that solved the problem for me. i will be keeping mine because. 1. every company it is inevitable that there will be a defect that may require a recall. 2. i like the frame design it is longer than most bikes and has more room for upgrades and customizations i need for doing my scrap metal and yard sale runs. 3. i wouldnt lose trust yet since it is possible that Shinko SR241 18 may even make a 3 inch tire and it would work. and a message for those who used their radwagon 4 for carrying their children and had the tires fail or maybe not fail yet and survived without harm i want to say you are very lucky to survive without a scratch.
Why don't you mention asking RAD for a refund in all the options that you go through? I've been contemplating a chargeback through the credit card since they sold a defective item.
I haven't read or heard of anyone getting a refund...but it sounds like a reasonable request. If you end up going down the route of the chargeback or asking Rad for a refund, let us know how it goes. Other RW owners would appreciate the feedback.
I'm sorry to hear your tire exploded! Hope you're ok. Rad fixed my bike a couple of months ago so they're fixing radwagons as we speak but i did hear Rad support is taking a while to respond these days. Good luck
Not only option. I put motorcycle tires on mine and the company isn't going to get another dime from me cuz they clearly don't care. Ordered parts from them once and they left my order on the shelf in wearhouse for a month before sending it out.... Only after I asked them what was taking so long. Lady responding told me I wasn't being patient. Like... I waited a month lady and my shit didn't come. What an unpleasant company.
I will never buy another Rad product again. This recall was the icing on the cake for me. I’ve had a lot of issues with the company. Emails take weeks to get a response, phone calls require hours on hold, and warranty items take weeks if not months to ship. This tire size is totally ridiculous and in 2022 no company should be asking customers to park their bikes for months because of tires. I switched over to moto tires and that was a huge mistake. They are heavier and made my top speed drop by 2mph. My range also took a sever hit and dropped by 6-8 miles. I won’t even get into the poor brakes that barely have enough power to stop the bike. Overall I’m been supper unhappy with Rad and their handling of this.
Thanks for the comment. There are so many issues to unpack with this recall but the worst part is having to park your ebike for who knows how long. Thanks for your feedback on your use of different tires & the result. It can be helpful for those of those still trying to figure out what to do next. Will you be getting another brand ebike?
Hi Jake, yeah, this a frustrating issue. I realized after a bunch of time waiting for Rad, that the 22" x 3" dimension for the Radwagon 4 tires is quite confusing. We all have 18" rims, not 22", so there are lots of motorcycle tire at 18" x 2.75" that will work on our bikes. I put on some Shinko 18 x 2.75 and am back on the road for late fall :)
@@CavanDrake-km6fq I put motorcycle tires on in august, they suck. Yeah the ride is much more solid and they are better than not being able to ride, however they came at a cost. I lost 2mph off my top speed. I used to get 24mph pretty consistently now I am lucky to get 22mph (yes, I have the speed kicked up). The biggest downfall of all was the massive hit my range took. I lost 6-8 miles off of my range as soon as I put motorcycle tires on. I always ride the same exact route, so the range lost was very obvious. Motorcycle tires did allow me to keep riding and they are certainly more tough but they do have some major drawbacks.
@@jakejones5991 OK, all totally true on my end too, but it still worked with my quick town grocery trips and small loop joy rides. Putting these tires on has caused me to lean into tinkering more with the bike which led me to put on the Bolton 35amp controller and I'm sure I'll throw on another battery in the next year to get my original range back. I suppose...to get to a dream e-cargo bike setup with the radwagon 4 considering the tire recall, then it would cost about another $120 for the motorcycle tires, $220 for the 35amp controller and display, and to get your range back and a bit more another $500 for a better then original battery and the supporting connectors to put them in the circuit.... I suppose that's almost another $850 to get a dreamy e-cargo bike setup, but I thinks its been money hard earned and well spent so far.

Thanks for sharing this tire option. It's good for people to know alternatives especially for those that need their RW.

Please dont put children on these things. Automobile traffic just too dangerous. You're risking their lives.
Ok. Not buying this bike now…..
When you purposely buy cheap crap, you have to expect this kind of thing. Sucks to be all of you!
