Hot take: Luka will be locked in just to to prove a point and would consistently try on Perimeter D because he doesn’t have to carry so much offensively anymore that people would legitimately consider him on an All Defensive team.
get real dude lol he’s still the best playmaker in the league he’s always gonna have the ball in his hands more than often. on top of that why would he try on defense in the regular season when the team is good enough to win without that effort for 82 games? i’m sure if the team is smart they’d want him healthy going into the playoffs more than trying to prove he plays defense
@@bakedizzle24 no im saying casuals who don’t watch and are ESPN Merchants would be utterly shocked that Luka can actually play lockdown defense if he wanted to and due to our guard depth and more offensive help I see Luka just consistently try to be a menace on defense just to prove a point.
@@bakedizzle24 The only reason he really gained so much weight was because of injuries which is of course caused by carrying so much offensive load because we’re injured alot.
Luka gaining weight is not partly due to injuries, it is deliberate. Luka being big can overpower defenders in the post. He is not naturally fast so going small will not offer him any advantage.
@@OCLProductionz Saying Luka gained weight due to injured players is a VERY poor excuse. AD is always injured, yet we do not see an out a shape LeBron.
Plays are made by players executing at the highest level consistently. Our problem last year was Lukas injury, DJones, Exum, PJ, Green, THJ, Maxi and even Irving against the Celtics just not showing up when they were needed the most. Our unstoppable play that would convert at the highest % would simply be the high pick n roll with Luka & Liv or Gafford. Luka is either going to get a lay up or inside the paint shot and if the big switches to stop Luka which we hope they do they Luka passes the lob pass for a dunk from Liv/Gaf. Doesn't get any better getting a high % shot. Then Irving in ISO you simply have to double/blitz him to stop him his drive leaving wide open 3 from Klay/PJ or Luka. Going to be so interesting to see how Naji, Grimes, SD, & Klay create space and hopefully hit their open 3. Then it just comes down to all giving D effort and Naji/PJ/Liv/Gafford and hopefully Exum locking down on the D side. Go Mavs.
as a knicks fan who enjoys my slightly takes - i agree w/ nick in that their front court situation is for lack of a better word ... weird. i think they eventually make a midseason move, especially if mitch gets hurt again. great show as always guys!
As much as I like you guys, please let's not overhype the team too much, as we don't know yet how it will works... and the Mavs often disappoint when they are favourites - so fingers crossed. Oh I almost forgot : LET IT FREAKIN' RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE!!! 🤘🤟
We lost athleticism with the departures of Josh Green and DJJ but we'll see if Grimes and Klay's shooting can make up for it. Especially Grimes compared to Green as those are still big shoes to fill especially in transition. Naji is replacing DJJ so that isn't Klay's concern as we switch THJ for Klay essentially. The question is can Klay step up as a Starter in which THJ fell out of rotation for the last 2 seasons.
The post trade Mavs were already nearly unbeatable, I think losing Jones Jr was a huge mistake, he seemed to always be there at clutch time. Too many trades could mess up the whole package.
Luka, kyrie on the wings or top of key. Klay getting offball screens baseline to baseline for corner 3's from lively or gafford with them rolling for lobs is legit unguardable. i dont like klay coming to set screens because he'll be a SF so dont want to bring klay's guy with length up to guard luka or kyrie becasue nobody is stopping those two 1 on 1 anyway
I'm excited to see all the different lineups that can be made with a 12-13 deep rotation. Y'all should definitely do an episode on some of the best/favorite combinations. I have a few in mind, but the one I'm really interested in seeing is one I like to call - All Gas No Brakes: Luka, Ky, Dinwiddie, Klay & PJ.
Lukas usage rate has to decrease if they want to win they do not need him to dribble for 20sec then pass the ball to someone with 4 seconds left. He needs to take less shots and get his teammates involved. This will help him out in the long run he will have more energy for defense and won’t be as winded. There’s better shooting around him instead of averaging 33pts drop it down to 28pts so klay can get his shots up. That’s lukas next step he needs to take everyone knows he can score and so can James harden and look at him great talent but having the ball for too long and taking majority of the shots doesn’t win games.
I find it funny af!!!! Everyone thinks djj is a def stopper. He is NOT!!! He was in dallas all year last year and before the trade dealine. We were one of the worst D's in nba. Gafford and pj are the reason our d got better. Marshal and grimes and klay all have better d stats than djj. Also mavs are being nice saying what they have about djj. He wanted a max contract (cuz he is dumb) and when the mavs and his agent said no way he fired his agent in middle of neg. Clearly he is not that smart and he has never been a good defender. He was a product of the system. Mavs d scheme is to heard the scoring player to their center ( lively/gafford) Am i the only one who watched games last season. Really djj a def ace!!!! So funny!!! Just goes to show how dumb he is, he signed with clippers for 1 mil more a season, where he will pay over 1 mil more in taxes and play on a team that does not go to playoffs
Luka needs to set screens also. It shouldn’t just be Klay and Kyrie setting screens. Luka needs to play better off the ball so the offense wouldn’t be so predictable.
So tired of Rudy Gobert getting a reward he doesn’t deserve. Luka plays him off the court almost every time they go against each other. You can’t convince me he’s the best defensive player
What's 1 thing you're excited to see in this Mavs season?
the slightly highs and lows
Isaac persuading Nick to get the old intro music back and then celebrating the first title after a decade 😎
klay
Klay coming of the bench
Klay and Grimes 3pt shooting and underrated defense, Lively's, Omax' and Hardy's growth, Dinwiddie's redemption season.
the only locked on pod worth watching
I’d bet all the other locked on teams are jealous of the mavs for having nick and slightly
@@juliansanchez4898 all the other locked on pods are hosted by plants and ai. locked on mavs actually has energy chemistry and humor
Yup. Especially since Pat quit Locked on NBA. That was the only other Locked on show I watch. Period.
IF KLAY levels with Luka&Kyrie's confidence
OH MAMA 😅😅😅

"no ones dying" my favorite part of the intro
So excited man
The Luka bump with Klay will be super interesting to see this season.

A locked in Luka with better weight control and conditioning is an automatic MVP and return to the finals. I'm so excited for us! GO MAVS!

Completely agree. There wasn’t a whole lot that needed changing, Green was a bad piece to lose for Klay
Everyone talking about defense but the other team has to guard us as well.
Nash & Barea seem like a killer doubles tennis team. I assume they won?
