She was ahead of her time. It's really telling that for older celebrity fragrances, the celebrities were generally much older when they launched fragrances, it makes me think there was a dramatic shift in target audience from older to younger customers.
@@dr.claire.perfume Definitely agree, we all recall Isabella Rosellini being replaced after a decade plus with LANCOME/TRESOR. It didn't sit that well with a lot of women; me included. I thought it was insulting to her. SHE IS AN ICON 🌟 however, she forged on and succeeded to this day. Oh, TRESOR....... I'm getting nostalgic 😔
I have some minis of White Diamond perfume; went to give them a sniff after reading all this and watching the video. White Diamonds sort of reminds me of Bal a'Versailles, a fragrance that Liz Taylor introduced to Michael Jackson. Jackie Kennedy is said to have worn Bal a' Versailles too.
Great job:) I just wanted to mention why Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds took off after a so-so performance of Purple Passion. It was the bling, baby. Besides the many husbands, she was famous (almost infamous) for her over-the-top jewelry collection. Every time Richard Burton gave her another extravagant, wildly expensive piece, it made news. So linking the perfume to jewels was a brilliant piece of marketing.
This was so well researched and interesting. I've never owned a celebrity fragrance. In my teens and early 20s I was in to mostly alternative music, and I can promise you if any of my favourite bands or someone like say Courtney Love had released a fragrance, I would have definitely bought it! Merch wasn't so much a thing back then, it was hard enough to get hold of good band tees
Thanks Em! Yes this took a long time 🤣 Yes same, of RCHP had had a fragrance or Belle and Sebastian, I'd have been right there 🤣 I didn't listen to the music of any of these people and I didn't own any celebrity fragrances until I was 35! Clearly a late starter! Have a fab weekend 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume can totally tell you spent a lot of time on this, appreciate your efforts to create such a concise round up, a potted history for sure! I reckon Belle & Sebastian could have made a beautiful perfume! You have a lovely weekend too xx
Boyfriend by Kate Walsh is a great celebrity fragrance that completely breaks the mold (both in the marketing and scent itself). It's a balmy, woody, resinous fragrance that's very unisex and not particularly mass appealing, but was very popular among certain fragheads when it was first released. I blind bought it about 12 years ago and still have the original bottle.
I don't even remember who Kate Walsh was! Was she on big brother? It sounds good actually, I might do a video on the best celebrity fragrances I've tried so I will look out for it on eBay. Thanks for the suggestion ☺️
The Fantasy line must be Britney's biggest success. There are so many flankers now! Mariah Carey had a lot of fragrances but M seem to be the only one people talk about. 🤔
Britney Spears Curious was my first fragrance. I was about 12 when my mom gifted it to me. I bought it again just a few weeks ago so I could remember the smell, and while the woody notes are a bit strong and headache-inducing to me now, I still really enjoy it. I wore Katy Perry Killer Queen in college (university), which was for sure when the fruitchouli craze was happening - it's a good dupe for Flowerbomb. Currently, I own and love Ariana Grande God is a Woman, which I prefer to Cloud. Great video, Claire!
Thank you! Yes! I love GIAW! I tried it in store a few times, walked away and then thought ooh what's that? It smells so good 🤣 I also prefer it to cloud 🙊 I never tried killer Queen but I know that one was loved along with the blue one. Celebrity fragrances from the 2000s and 2010s take me right back! Thanks for watching ❤️
Based on Fragrantica reviews and ratings, I would say Paris Hilton has something nearing a cult following for her fragrances. And she continues to release new ones regularly. I personally adore PH Dazzle.
SJP Covet is the only celebrity fragrance I own now (or ever). I know it’s an acquired but I secretly hope that it will stay in circulation in its original formulation. I will always get my own bottle if only for the nostalgia and the lovely memories I associate with it. Thank you once again Claire for this very informative and well researched video.
Thank you! I'm happy you enjoyed this. ❤️ Covet is one that I've finished a bottle of! It's a very different and ahead of its time kind of fragrance I think! And I brought it years after it came out because I remembered loving it. It's such a strange mix with that lemon and lavender and chocolate, but somehow works. Thanks for watching ❤️
Great content as always Claire. Sunday morning here in Australia. When you posed the question about where celebrity fragrances will go in the future, I thought about the rise of the middle eastern dupes and originals at very affordable prices, and whether that will impact the celebrity lines as well as the designer and niche brands. 😊🇦🇺
Oh that's an interesting point! There's certainly been an increase in the number of fragrances at a lower price point thanks to Middle Eastern dupe fragrances! You're right. They will definitely be competing. Thanks for watching ❤️
I purchased my first celeb perfume SJP’s Stash a year ago (at 57 yrs old), and immed purchased a backup bottle. Later purchased her Lovely, but didn’t realize til watching this that it’s a dupe for NR For Her! I also purchased JLo Glo on a whim while at WalMart & was quite disappointed… guess I expected something a little sexier!😉 - Thanks for producing such informative, entertaining videos, Claire. …You’re quite a gem 💎 in our little fragcomm!
Thank you! Oh I love Stash! Such an interesting fragrance from SJP. I made a video comparing lovely with for her EDP because people told me they were similar but when I investigated for the video, it was actually the EDT that lovely was supposed to be based around. Thanks for watching ❤️
@@dr.claire.perfume ahh, thanks for replying with the addtl insight on For Her; I have the black EDP bottle v the EDT pink one (which makes me happy I don’t have a dupe of it in SJP’s Lovely👌) You’re an amazing researcher & I wish you an amazing week ahead😘
Ooh yes, I had that one and finished the bottle very quickly, it was only a small one, but I loved it. I wore it to bed a bit too. Did you try indivisible also? Thanks for watching ❤️
@@dr.claire.perfume Thank you for your reply and for this very constructive video as well! Yes, I tried indivisible but it was too sweet for me. I gave it to friend who enjoys it.
One fragrance you referenced as having a note of "sugar". It reminded me of a YT doctor who was saying how a fragrance could actually trigger insulin production and how colors and scents can affect perceived sweetness. Maybe you have already done a video on this subject; just thought it was scientific and interesting. Like you,Claire!
I didn't realise that insulin production or release is anticipatory! I found a recent article referencing what I think might be the same study that you refer to, they say, "Blood glucose and insulin levels measured at −15, 0, 10, 20, 30, 45, 60 and 90 min after consumption showed no direct difference between the two beverage conditions. However, we found a significant indirect effect of perceived sweetness on insulin release, whereby consuming the beverage perceived to be sweeter resulted in higher overall levels of insulin release compared to the beverage that was less sweet." So this suggests that consumption is actually the trigger, however there are other studies which seem to argue against this, including those citing smell being a trigger, so this not being my specialist area, I would have to do a lot more reading to find out what the consensus is! I do think we probably associate particular colours with sweetness more than others, the same study quoted above used identical citric acid and sucrose concentrations in a lemon flavoured green beverage and a strawberry flavoured red beverage, "On average, the strawberry manipulation resulted in significantly higher sweetness ratings and lower sourness ratings compared to the lemon manipulation, although there were clear individual differences in the direction of sweetness enhancement." to me, they've not controlled for taste there at all, lemon and strawberry are very different tastes and have particular associations of sweetness or sourness, and also taste-colour congruence is altered for one and not the other, i.e. lemon would be expected to be yellow, not green and so I'm not sure, from my limited understanding, that this is an entirely fair test. Really they should have the same flavour with different colours and test that perhaps? Interesting to read about though, thanks for highlighting it! 🥰
I never owned it but I remember going to buy a bottle with my friend for his girlfriend the Christmas after it came out. I remember thinking that he was so romantic getting her perfume. 😂
Hi Claire🤗🥰 I have never tried any celebrity fragrances. I can't find them in my country. However, from the reviews, it seems that they are in the same line as Avon or oriflame fragrances. I couldn't agree more about the collaborations. The so-called " limited edition" is part of the marketing strategy. I looved your top. It makes you pop out ❤
Thank you! It's one of my favourites. I think there are actually very few celebrity fragrances that are worth buying. You are probably saving yourself a lot of disappointment by not having access to them. There are a few very good ones though, but it just takes a lot of sifting through bad ones to find them! Thanks for watching ❤️
Good morning Claire! Chanel 5 was my first fragrance I was 11 years old . My mom was given her as a gift and she said it’s for you, as long as I remember as a little girl I loved Perfumes. Growing up these were my favorites Chanel, My Sin, Oh de London by Yardley this was beautiful, Charlie, Lou Lou and the list goes on.❤️❤️❤️
What a fun and informative video! Elizabeth Taylor PASSION; I wore and loved it for years. Nothing to compare it to imo, elegant and beast mode. Back when it was popular, the price was so affordable. I love KK PURE HONEY, but the performance is very poor. I only wear it to bed. It does linger on certain fabrics. I generally spray fragrance on my clothes and skin. Sadly, I'm anosmic to CLOUD, but I get compliments wearing it. Regretfully I'm not going to repurchase😔.
Oh wow, I didn't try Passion and wondered what it was like? That Kim Kardashian pure honey gets a lot of love, shame it doesn't last though. I can smell cloud thankfully. I am just not a big fan of br540 inspired fragrances on me, but I think it smells great when I smell it on other people. There are some great celebrity fragrance out there. 🥰
Thanks for this. Very informative as always. I think celebrity perfumes will evolve in whatever direction the "influencer" market evolves and it's interesting to watch. I'm loving Still By JLo and Britney Spears Prerogative. Also love Elizabeth Taylor white diamonds and white diamonds night just because I loved her. Take care!
Yes I agree, that's why I think celebrity fragrances might go slightly more up-market and pricier and aimed at a slightly older audience. There are so many great celebrity fragrances to try and Elizabeth Taylor was an icon for sure 😊 thanks for watching ❤️
Fantasy is a classic! I think Britney must have made most of her fortune with that one and yes cloud is loved 😊 it has all the elements it needed to make it an amazing success! Thanks for watching ❤️
My first and only celebrity fragrances in my collection are cloud by AG and sofia by SV, love them both ❤ I remember in the early 2000s ( college days) paris hilton and britney spears were very popular, i used to always buy a a cheapie perfume from a local perfumery in philippines that dupes designer and celebrity fragrances, i remember the sales clerk always promotes paris hilton dupes but i always choose designer ones 😄
Hi Rin! Paris Hilton was huge I think and she is still releasing fragrances! People love them. To be honest the bottles always put me off a little, I know that's a bit shallow 🤣
This was an excellent video! You have so many unique subjects. I really like the history angle. Just one little mention: the face of the "Fancy" line was Jessica Simpson rather than Britney Spears. I'm not sure how famous she became on your side of the pond but she was Big Stuff in the US in the early-to-mid Noughties. (Not much actual talent, though, in my humble opinion.)
Thank you ❤️ Oh no, did I say Britney 🙊 I definitely meant Jessica Simpson 🤦♀️ she did make it over here but she wasn't big. I remember being really surprised that she had a fragrance line when I first started watching perfume TH-cam! Thanks for watching ❤️
Good afternoon Dr. Smith. Oh my Goodness my favourite celebrity fragrances are Thank U Next by Ariana Grande and Pure Honey by Kim Kardashian and both fragrances have pretty bottles, especially Pure Honey💛🐝♥️ Wonderful video♥️♥️
I appreciate how you find yourself with questions and then do the research to answer them for us! I relate to that almost compulsive desire to try the celeb scents to find the inexpensive gems. Private show by Britney Spears, Kim kardashian by Kim kardashian, and Stella by Stella McCartney (discontinued edp) are some of my favorite celeb scents (though Stella never quite fit the “cheapie” category)
Thank you! Yes, I definitely had that desire to find something amazing for very little with celebrity fragrances when I first started. I need to try more Kim Kardashian fragrances, there are so many! Thanks for watching ❤️
The BBC is watching you Claire! 😂 That’s such an interesting video! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 I believe Lovely was one of the first celebrity perfume I really wore but I have bought many of them through out the years and they are all on a tray on a desk because I dont’ really wear them anymore… Cloud is the only one that sits with my designer and niche perfumes I keep in the dark on shelves in my closet. They missed their chance of making more money with this one. I think they could have asked a designer price for this one and people would have bought it anyway. 🤷🏻♀️
Haha thank you! It took me a long time to plan 🤣 weirdly I didn't buy a celebrity fragrance until I was 35 🤷♀️ my first one was an SJP, and I think I like her lines the best of all that I've tried so far. I think you are right about Cloud, they could have made a lot more money and also made more flankers of it. People absolutely adore that fragrance. Thanks for watching, have a fab weekend 🥰
Gosh Claire, you must spend ages researching all this information. Thank you, your videos are always so interesting and different ❤ I had no idea that Sophia Loren was the first fragrance face, don't remember that at all. I wore and loved Glow and Lovely back in the day. I'm not influenced by 'celebrity', just liked the fragrances and the fact that they were inexpensive! I think I I''m in agreement with you that nowdays influencers are the ones who inspire younger people more than celebrities, hence the success of Kayali fragrances and Huda Beauty.
Thank you Fiona, I am happy you enjoyed this. ❤️ Yes I had no idea either about Sophia Loren. She seems an odd choice for a brand really. And same! I never bought a celebrity fragrance because I looked the celebrity but I guess liking SJP got me to try her perfumes in the first place. And yes, influencer fragrances are going to be a big part of the future for sure! Thanks for watching ❤️
I really like Ariana Grandes fragrances. As far as TH-cam content creators, Minuit et Demi is by far my favorite. Thank you for all your research and information Claire! ❤️❤️
Thank you! I enjoyed researching this, I didn't know much about celebrity fragrances. It seems so many are loved. I guess they are nostalgic because for many people they are their first fragrances. Thanks for watching ❤️
Love how well researched your videos are! Oh gosh, I was a teenager at the time and remember the JLo fragrance, but not how it smelled, just that I didn't like it 😄😁Another celebrity fragrance that was very popular at time was Naomi Campbell. At least where I am from. I vaguely remember how that one smelled, and I didn't dislike it, but my cousin was wearing it, so I didn't want to smell the same. Plus, there were other perfumes back then that I was obsessing over. And then later on, my best friend at uni in the UK smelled of Britney Spears Fantasy - super sweet indeed, and will forever bring memories of us on nights out.
Thank you ❤️ Me too with that JLo, it just wasn't my taste, especially at the time. I don't think I've tried any of Naomi Campbell's fragrances, but they did have a moment a few years back on TH-cam when everyone seemed obsessed with finding fab celebrity fragrances. That's a fab scent memory to have with Britney Spears Fantasy! 😊 It sounds like you had lots of fun. 🥰
I have Elizabeth Taylor, Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, JLo, Elizabeth & James and Sofia Vergara. My favorites are JLo Glow, SJP Stash and Lovely, AG Cloud and E&J Nirvana Black
Hello beautiful , I have a few celebrity fragrances in my in my collection. Great video and thank you for sharing. I hope you have a wonderful weekend 🤗
Here! Thank you for sharing. I've never noticed over the years all of the celebrity perfume releases. Just oblivious, lol. My 1st celebrity perfume purchase was Eilish. And sampled and love Fenty EDP. I want to own it one day.
This is such an awesome in depth look into celebrity fragrances. Thank you for sharing, Claire! White Diamonds is a fragrance that I truly do love to this day - It's one that I remember smelling so much as a kid, but didn't appreciate until a few years ago (Huge Elizabeth Taylor fan though). I associate Curious with my older sister because she wore it all the time when I was younger - However I do wear it quite a bit myself now. I love celebrity fragrances so much and tend to reach for them the most- Fantasy is actually the perfume I wear the most. It's truly a classic! I also really love Believe (Fruitchouli heaven), Midnight Fantasy, SJP's Lovely, Kate Walsh's Boyfriend, Rihanna's Reb'l Fleur, Eilish by Billie Eilish, and Ariana Grande's Moonlight.
Thank you! Yes, White Diamonds really started it all I think! A few people have mentioned Kate Walsh Boyfriend, I'm intrigued! There are definitely some great celebrity fragrances out there to be found and a lot of them make me feel incredibly nostalgic for the 2000s 😂 thanks for watching ❤️
I wonder if Sofia Lauren enjoyed her namesake fragrance 🤔 I didn’t enjoy Glow either. I do like a soapy fragrance but Glow is very sharp to my nose 🤷🏽♀️ I definitely appreciate celebrities who are directly involved in the process and try to have the fragrance reflect their tastes. It must be an awesome feeling 😊
Yes I wonder... To me with modern eyes, she was an unusual choice for a fragrance, but she must have been very popular back then. 🤷♀️ i remember my shock when I tried glow, I was surprised that I didn't like it 😂 There's definitely something special about a fragrance that fits the celebrity. Ariana Grande fragrances feel like they fit her and I think that really helped to make cloud even bigger too. 🥰
I had no idea about how big some of these releases have been. The amount of money that celebrities make from the fragrances, even years later, is astounding!
Very well researched video! I keep a bottle of JLo Miami Glow for nostalgia's sake, though I don't really like wearing it anymore. I have a fragrance by Antonio Banderas that I ended up just using as a room freshener, but I found it really funny and surprising that he has a fragrance line
For me it was Britney Spears. I still have all the promo huge story books that were used in the department stores. I worked in a department store and I made sure to get them all. I would not take anything for them. I still love her fragrances.
Wow! That's impressive that you still have them! Britney Spears and her fragrances have many fans and really some of her early perfumes are cult status now. Thanks for watching ❤️
Good evening to all. I have no doubt at all, Influencer and Celebrity perfume creations will continue. I used to have a Fantasy by Britney Spears and I actually loved it, along with Vivienne Westwood Boudoir (Celebrity Designer!). I own Fancy by Jessica Simpson and I enjoy blending it with Santal 33 :), also much to my surprise, Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights reminds me of Chanel Coromandel (I have about 15% left of a 6 year old EDT, finally I have Ariana G. Thank You 2.0 which I blend with BKR540:)
I've seen a lot of people dislike fancy nights, I guess because they are expecting something that smells more like Fancy. I think I would enjoy something reminiscence of Coroma ndel! I've been trying to get a bottle of boudoir, I see them occasionally on eBay. Thanks for the recommendations! 🥰
Happy Saturday Dr Claire. I’m a little late today but none the less fascinated and intrigued by the topic. I must say it was Liz Taylor that first drew my interest to celebrity fragrances. SJP Stash, which I absolutely love, was my second and now I have grown to enjoy Cloud by Ariana Grande. I don’t own any fragrances by TH-camrs although I think there are a few good ones I’m not drawn to them. Thanks for doing the research on this topic. As always you’ve outdone yourself.
Thank you! Yes, I think Elizabeth Taylor's line was even more successful in the US than here! I agree, Stash is a stunningly different celebrity fragrance and Cloud too. I think if I could sample these influencer fragrances I might be tempted but the cost of them is astronomical and too much for a risky blind buy for me. Thanks for watching, happy Sunday 🥰
Also... I did finally get a Kayali sampler set from the Sephora sale. I started testing some of the fragrances yesterday. I don't know if it was because I had low expectations for the house, but I was pleasantly surprised. No performance issues for me. I could still smell Vanilla 28 and Burning Cherry 12 hours after putting them on my skin. After 12 hours they were skin scent only but they were present. I think if they don't keep raising their prices I would put them at good value for your money when compared to a lot of designer and some niche perfumes. I tested the Minute Demi and I wasn't wowed the way I anticipated (I think the high price made it so). 😉 I have tested Cloud and I think they hit that sweet spot for all the reasons you stated in the video. I think it will sell well for many years to come. I haven't tried any other celebrity perfume but... If I happen to come across a bottle of the J Lo Still fragrance, I may give it a try because I enjoy a good Earl Grey tea note. I think once I try the other Kayali fragrances, one my eventually make it's way into my collection. 😆. ~ Jenn
Oh fab! I'm happy you like some of the Kayali fragrances. I thought it was a load of hype before I tried them and I felt I'd wronged them 😂 Minuit et demi I've not tried but someone offered to let me have a spray so I'll let you know if I am similarly underwhelmed. I expect to be...😉 Cloud is just hitting all the buttons I think. Whoever came up with the whole concept is hopefully very rich as a result. I'll let you into a secret and I feel bad because everyone loves it, but I tried a sample of still and I hated it. All I could smell was ambroxan. It was a decant though, a bottle could be different. Everyone else ever loves it 😂 so definitely try it and if you do, please let me know what you think. 🥰
Clare ,I am in such awe of you 🤩The time you spend doing research does not go unnoticed by me 🤩 I totally agree that these celebrities are not wearing there own fragrances ,it’s all about the almighty $$$ but that being said I do have a couple of gems that I love regardless whether they wear them or not 🤷♀️
Thank you 😊 yes I think if I like a fragrance, it doesn't matter whether it matches the celebrity or not, but I guess that's because I buy perfumes for their smell, not because I like the celebrity. 🤔 There are some fab ones out there! 😍
My favourite celebrity fragrances at the moment are Born Lovely- particularly lovely in hot weather; Still by Jennifer Lopez - a great spa type scent and Indi by Katy Perry which to me is an interesting sandalwood fragrance. Great video Claire- really interesting.
Thank you ❤️ I've tried still and I finished a bottle of Indi. I really enjoyed Indi, it was one I liked to wear to bed, I found it very relaxing. I've not tried the lovely flanker, did you try any others from the line?
@@dr.claire.perfume I’ve tried Lovely Lights but from memory that one disappeared fast - though I tend to try 10 fragrances at a time down at my local chemist!
Very interesting video!! I will ALWAYS have a bottle of the OG White Diamonds in my collection, I use 2 per year, 100 ml bottles, and for the moment I am intensely smitten with Still by Jennifer Lopez, I will wear it a LOT in the coming years,,,.. yep, it's that kind of pleasant and versatile scent. Cloud however,, and the whole Baccarat Rouge scent profile, is getting SOOO tiresome. Yes, Baccarat Rouge smells fake, like all of Kurkdjian's creations,, I even disliked Elie Saab le Parfum instantly without knowing at the time that this was also a creation by Kurkdjian. Cloud is a good dupe for Baccarat, which has now made me go off it in the same way... in less than 6 months I had enough,, I had to give the rest of the bottle away.. I was half way into my second bottle of 100 ml, and now I am forever cured of Cloud, BR 540.. and all the scents made by Francis Kukdjian... except Green Tea ( Elizabeth Arden )... that still smells half decent and not too sweet and fake.
I know what you mean about BR540 and the other MFK fragrances that I've smelt have made me think the same thing, that they smell quite synthetic. I didn't try oud satin mood or grand soir though, maybe I'll like those. I do like some of his designer creations, but certainly not all, e.g. Burberry body... I know cloud is a loved one but I've never been able to get on board with it 🙊 I don't like it on me, on other people it's fine though! Thank you 😊 Wow, 2 bottles of white diamonds a year, you are a serious fan! Still has been a popular one on TH-cam this last year. Thanks for watching ❤️
My first perfume was JLo Miami Glow, my mum bought it for me for my Prom. I loved that one at the time but not smelt it since. Interesting video thank you x
Totally! These fragrances are time capsules sometimes! Sniffing them just makes you think of certain times or places! I think many people's first fragrances might have been celebrity fragrances. ☺️ Thanks for watching ❤️
This was such an outstanding post, Claire, you obviously put a lot of thought and work into it, I had to comment on your channel for the first time. My one celebrity fragrance is Eau de Gaga, I enjoy it so much, green tea and leather and unisex.
Hello and welcome and thank you! ❤️ oh my friend sent me a decant of Eau de Gaga, I loved it! Short lived and quiet but gorgeous! Such a good one 😊 thanks for watching ❤️
Hello Claire, I learned so much today! Thanks for sharing your take on the history and interest in celebrity fragrance. I look forward to your weekly video on Saturday. Have a great day! 🌻 💛~ Jenn
I loved the anthropology lesson ❤ You did an amazing job with this one, Claire❣️ I know it takes a lot of time to accurately research for a video this comprehensive ❤ I genuinely have yet to find a Celebrity fragrance that I truly adore, but I'm going to keep trying 💖
Thanks Laurel! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I think I feel the same, I have some very strong likes but no ride or dies. I really do enjoy stash, Eau De Gaga and girl. Thanks for watching ❤️
Hello lovely! I wish Marilyn Monroe had come out with a fragrance. I haven’t tried Sophia. That’s such an interesting fact. The first celebrity perfume I can remember is Elizabeth Taylor’s
Yes I bet it would have sold well, I guess there's that how to marry a.millionaire that used her name. I think it's meant to smell a bit like olympea though.
Thank you for this very interesting video. I appreciate all of the research you did to pull this together! 🙂 I enjoy wearing “ Still” by JLo - so affordable and I love the subtle tea note. This is a hidden gem in my opinion! I have also owned and used up small bottles of KKW “Sinner” and “Saint”. I’ve sniffed many others ( those you mentioned) released by Brittany, Elish, SJP, etc, which I found cheap, overly synthetic, cloying, and scrub-motivating. Some smell ok in the first minute, and then quickly evolve to something intolerable, headache inducing in my personal experience. I do recognize and appreciate the other all contributions these celebrities have made, influencing the current designer trend and the current market. I think I’ve sniffed so many well-blended perfumes that my nose knows the difference. ( I adore Chanel and guerlain).
Hi Christina! Thank you 😊 I agree with you, I'm not a fan at all of Britney Spears' fragrances of the ones that I've tried and I didn't like Eilish. I do like some SJP fragrances, but it's a case of they are great for their price point. Thanks for watching ❤️
I love Cloud, but have never actually smelled BR540! Also have the new Eilish No2 (I always snigger when I say the name). Interesting how you say that you can’t imagine Billie smelling like the original. No2 is totally different and is absolutely how I could imagine her smell! Fab video. Thanks. X
@@dr.claire.perfume it’s very interesting. Very androgynous and has a burnt wood smell. Honestly more of a winter fragrance. Smells good on me and my husband.
Pop diva Britney Spears' 'Fantasy' WAS the best celeb fragrance ever made, a good scent, wih a good quality and a good price, all in one fragrance, which by the way, was one of the best sweet scents I've ever smelled (it combined white chocolate with cupcake). It's a shame that it's now diluted. Paris Hilton's 'Heiress' is also a great perfume in terms of good, quality fragrances, but a little more expensive.
I recently got a vintage bottle of Fantasy in a fragrance bundle and I agree, there's a really striking cupcake note that I've not smelt elsewhere. Thanks for watching 🥰
What a fun video! I sometimes forget that Cloud is a celeb fragrance. Do you like Billie Eilish? Our daughter has it and it smells sooooo good on her! 🎉
Thanks Veronica! Yes I know! Cloud is just so striking! I have tried Eilish a few times and I have to admit I struggle with it. It's been very popular though ☺️
Navitus Parfums has Steven Gavrielatos (frag youtuber Redolessence) as it's part-owner, so the brand to my knowledge was specifically launched to pair master perfumers with influencers as the creative directors for their releases.
The only celebrity fragrance I've owned is heat by Beyonce. I didn't buy it myself, it was gifted me by my mother who guessed correctly that I would like the bottle. It wasn't a bad fragrance but I remember I didn't get an hour's wear out of it. From what I've heard I think I would definitely like Madonna's and Kim Kardashian's fragrances because I like the notes these fragrances are supposed to have. Personally the only criterion I have when I consider buying a fragrance is mainly whether I like it or not, secondly lasting power and thirdly price. I've set the limit at a hundred euros and am not willing to spend more on a fragrance.
I think that's the difference between people who love fragrance and people who just buy the celebrity perfume because they like the celebrity really. We're probably all just smelling them and not really caring about who's marketing them. 😂 I had exactly the same issue with Heat, very short lived. I went through a 100ml bottle very quickly. Thanks for watching ❤️
It seems to me that celebrity fragrance releases of the kinds that have been described will sooner or later be the thing of the past. I see it, that there isn't a celebrity big enough to pull it off. All young and youngster ones have always shorter and shorter shelf life. There isn't someone with big personality any more. The social media influencers are kind of cheap and undeserving of that and just copycats of each other in pursuit of...I don't even know what, their 5 minutes of fame? Plus, what was in the niche category is going into mainstream, and I've read on reviews people reporting lowering of quality that certain brand put into the perfume as they probably got the momentum and selling enough through social media. It was a nice review of the history of celebrity fragrances. Personally, I don't have any at the moment but had Britney Spears's Curios. I think those very first ones with the big stars such as Audrey Hepburn or Elisabeth Taylor were much more relatable, as these were the women that the public looked up to. Nowadays, the taste is much more fragmented.
Yes that international megastar with longevity like Madonna is somewhat something of the past now. People seem to be famous for less and less time these days. Celebrity is more fast fashion I guess. I can imagine that some influencer fragrances are not of the highest quality when brands do collaborations, as you say, the fragrance will sell until it sells out whatever. I hear a lot of stuff like, you need to let it macerate from influencers when not everyone loves their fragrances 😂 umm right ok... 🙄 Thanks for watching ❤️
I really love the fantasy flankers (the original is just a touch too sharp for me), but my favorite celebrity fragrance is Paris Hilton Dazzle. It is a lovely cherry fruitchouli that just makes me feel feminine and sexy. Also, the bottle is just so pretty, it makes me happy.
Hi Jessica! I agree with the original Fantasy, it's not one I love. I didn't mind intimate fantasy but I've not tried many others from that line, only midnight, which I think a lot of people prefer. I didn't try any of Paris Hilton's fragrances, but I think I remember seeing dazzle on TH-cam. It sounds really good actually and like something I'd enjoy, I love cherry 🍒 thanks for watching ❤️
Hi Claire! Thank you for doing such an exhaustive video on celebrity fragrances. It was quite interesting. If you look at the types of fragrances, the ones from women celebrities tend to be aimed more for women and maybe less sweet. The ones under the names of younger popstars definitely tend to be ''sugar bombs''. Although I do like wearing some of them. I don't have many of them though. I won't ever be buying Kim Kardashian one again (not much of a fan of hers to begin with; being famous for being famous people aren't my thing). I bought two and found them aweful (the honey one and one of the Nudes one). I'd rather spend my money elsewhere... Still, Midnight Fantasy and Lovely are great!
Hello! Yes I agree, I think your analysis of which fragrances are sweet and which not, is pretty spot on 🙂 I didn't try any KKW, weirdly they are hard to find in the UK, her Kim Kardashian line is much easier to find. I agree that Lovely is a complete classic and so many people also love still and midnight fantasy. Thanks for watching ❤️
@@dr.claire.perfume I'm just glad they weren't expensive. I don't really feel like testing more of them. There are so many options out there, I have limitless possibilities to find wonderful fragrances to love.
Yes, I think spending only a little more is probably the way to go. I have pretty much stopped buying celebrity fragrances apart from when I get them in bundles with other fragrances. I did seek out girl by Pharrell Williams recently though and I'm enjoying that one. I was intrigued because it was a collaboration with commes des garçons.
Ohh I was hoping you would mention Sofia Vergara as I love that one more than coco Mademoiselle! I adore cloud ! Thank you so much for sharing and have a fantastic weekend ❤ I really love Fancy by Jessica Simpson and went through 2 bottles but I think I’m done with celebrity fragrances now ! I do believe there will always be a market for them ,because our younger generation are easily influenced when someone they love comes out with a fragrance
Yes Sofia has been a huge seller. She has had some hits with her line. So many people seem to love fancy, I guess it's the caramel? It's quite rare to find it in the UK. I just bought a new celebrity fragrance 😂 I thought I was done, but nope! 😂 Have a fab weekend Frances ❤️ thanks for watching ❤️
Elizabeth Taylor is the queen of celebrity fragrances. White Diamonds has been in production for over 30 years and it’s still a huge seller. Even if you hate it that is a fact. There are at least 10 flankers of White Diamonds as well. I think one overlooked reason for the downfall of celebrity fragrances is the fragrance “influencers” on TH-cam and TikTok can post links and monetize their content very easily now. It makes more sense for them to push 200-300 dollar “niche” perfume than it does for them to sell a $25 celebrity scent.
I have tried White Diamonds but very few of the flankers, I agree, the fragrances are super popular and have been for many years. If they didn't sell well, they wouldn't still be available. There have been a few affiliate link based influencers who have heavily pushed celebrity fragrances, but I admit they are rare. I guess it depends what they normally talk about as to whether it fits or not. I remember clicking on one person's link to see that they had linked something that was sub £10 elsewhere for £50 through their link 😂 that was my moment of enlightenment 😂 you are right that more expensive is more lucrative for them, although I do wonder to what extent the higher sales volumes of celebrity fragrances offset that... Thanks for watching 🥰
I think celebrity fragrances are around to stay now. Not sure they will be as cheap, as you said. I think you are right that we will see a trend up in price for them. And people will pay it, if they like the celebrity enough. And it is fun to try to find hidden gems! Not a lot out there, I'm sure, but half the fun is finding them.
Yes! There's a joy in finding something amazing that's considered cheap and doesn't look like it will be great from the packaging, it's like finding treasure 😊 thanks for watching ❤️
What a fantastic video Claire. Interesting about that concept of belief. I definitely think perception, awareness and hype are powerful factors. Unique presentation targeted to a specific audience helps. Incidentally, I wonder how well Elon Musk's Burnt Hair is selling? 😄
Thank you 😊 yes I think a big launch and some buzz helps massively. Ariana Grande fragrances have truly nailed the presentation for her target audience. Haha, Elon Musk is something else isn't he?! I wonder! Thanks for watching ❤️
My favorites are from Ariana Grande (Cloud, Cloud 2.0 and R.E.M.) as well as Lovely by SJP. Curious by Britney Spears was one of my first perfumes back in the day when it first launched...but it's just "okay" to my nose now.
I think Ariana Grande fragrances are really the ones that stand out from the last few years, they are just a bit different. I haven't been taken with any fragrances from Britney but I've tried quite a few now. I keep an open mind but in general, they aren't for me. Thanks for watching ❤️
Oh right, what about those boy band fragrances marketed to women? I never smelled them, but I heard a few of them had quite a following. Gosh, what was it? Nsync? Justin Beber? Or Key. . . something? Now I want to smell them just to know. I'm sure they are discontinued.
Yes the key was one that Sarah Mayes seemed to love. I remember her talking about that one. I didn't try it but it's about £6 for 50ml so not expensive 🤣
I always think of Elizabeth Taylor when I think of celebrity fragrances and the fact they are still so popular today is incredible
Yes sadly brands still do drop women of a certain age, even if they are megastars. 🤷♀️ It's very sad.
I agree. Elizabeth Taylor was such a respected fragrance when it came out.
That makes total sense! Yes she called things rubies, emeralds and sapphires too didn't she? I hadn't thought about that! Great point 👍
Thanks Em! Yes this took a long time 🤣
Yes same, of RCHP had had a fragrance or Belle and Sebastian, I'd have been right there 🤣 I didn't listen to the music of any of these people and I didn't own any celebrity fragrances until I was 35!
Yes it would have been a musky woody one I think 😊
I love the Fantasy line. M. By Mariah is one of my favorite celeb perfumes and it’s very unique ❤❤
It smells so good 🤣 I also prefer it to cloud 🙊
I never tried killer Queen but I know that one was loved along with the blue one. Celebrity fragrances from the 2000s and 2010s take me right back! Thanks for watching ❤️
Hey Claire! You always have the most creative videos ❤❤❤
Thank you 😊
Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson ruled my fragrance life for about 10 years.
Haha, I forgot about Paris Hilton but yes, her fragrance lines are still huge aren't they?!
@@dr.claire.perfume yep. Lol
Based on Fragrantica reviews and ratings, I would say Paris Hilton has something nearing a cult following for her fragrances. And she continues to release new ones regularly. I personally adore PH Dazzle.
@@sarahw5906 heiress is my all time fave from her
I need to check these out ladies! Thanks for the tips! ❤️
My favorite celebrity fragrance is SJP Lovely. I also really liked Elizabeth and James Rose but my husband hated it so I gifted my bottles
Oh that's a shame! I didn't try rose. Lovely is a classic now! It's stood the test of time. 🙂
Covet is one that I've finished a bottle of! It's a very different and ahead of its time kind of fragrance I think! And I brought it years after it came out because I remembered loving it. It's such a strange mix with that lemon and lavender and chocolate, but somehow works.
Thanks for watching ❤️
I had Covet too. I liked it. Maybe I should revisit!!
I really like Covet too. It's really unusual (in a good way!)
Maybe, I don't know about where you are, but right now it's quite hard to find in the UK. I think it's discontinued sadly.
@@dr.claire.perfume it’s still on lots of the discounters here in North America.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video! Thanks!
Thank you! ❤️ I'm really happy that you liked it 😊
I purchased my first celeb perfume SJP’s Stash a year ago (at 57 yrs old), and immed purchased a backup bottle.
I actually think the black one is the EDT and the pink the EDP. Personally I don't find them that similar, but they are considered dupes 🤷♀️
Kety Perry's Indi is my favorite and the only celeb fragrance I have. It was a very successful blind buy.:)
Thank you! No problem! I didn't try it myself, but I found Indi pretty sweet already so I don't think I'll seek it out. Thanks for the opinion. 🙂
I love hearing about this ❤
I never thought about it really
Thank you 😊 really happy that you enjoyed this! And no me neither until the other day, hence this video 😂
Glow was amazing and I still have a few dribbles left in the last bottle I got ( I went through 3 bottles ) reminds me of a very fragrant soap
I never owned it but I remember going to buy a bottle with my friend for his girlfriend the Christmas after it came out. I remember thinking that he was so romantic getting her perfume. 😂
Hi Claire🤗🥰
I have never tried any celebrity fragrances.
The only one I have is Madonna's truth or dare. I love it. Great subject, Claire. Ty 💙🥰
Hi Tina! Thank you! I also have that one and yes, it's a fab fragrance. Thanks for watching ❤️
Good morning Claire!
Chanel 5 was my first fragrance I was 11 years old . My mom was given her as a gift and she said it’s for you, as long as I remember as a little girl I loved
Perfumes. Growing up these were my favorites Chanel, My Sin, Oh de London by Yardley this was beautiful, Charlie, Lou Lou and the list goes on.❤️❤️❤️
Hi Yvonne! It sounds like a life-long obsession 😊 Chanel no5 is a heavy starter, but wow, such a classic. 😊
Take care!
@Scentolutions you make a good point about the "influencer" market; several TH-cam reviewers have done collaborations or released their own creations
Yes I agree, that's why I think celebrity fragrances might go slightly more up-market and pricier and aimed at a slightly older audience. There are so many great celebrity fragrances to try and Elizabeth Taylor was an icon for sure 😊 thanks for watching ❤️
Hi Kathy yes! That's the whole business model of Navitus and to some degree, also fragrance du Bois! Thanks for watching ❤️
Hey Claire! This video is so amazing and affordable. I will always have a special place for Glo by JLo in my heart. It’s beautiful
Yes it's a classic that lots of people love and feel nostalgic for I think! Thanks for watching ❤️
My first celebrity fragrance was Fantasy by Britney Spears. My current favorite celebrity fragrance is Cloud by Ariana Grande.
Fantasy is a classic! I think Britney must have made most of her fortune with that one and yes cloud is loved 😊 it has all the elements it needed to make it an amazing success! Thanks for watching ❤️
My first and only celebrity fragrances in my collection are cloud by AG and sofia by SV, love them both ❤
I remember in the early 2000s ( college days) paris hilton and britney spears were very popular, i used to always buy a a cheapie perfume from a local perfumery in philippines that dupes designer and celebrity fragrances, i remember the sales clerk always promotes paris hilton dupes but i always choose designer ones 😄
Thank you ❤️
Oh no, did I say Britney 🙊 I definitely meant Jessica Simpson 🤦♀️ she did make it over here but she wasn't big.

Thank you! I really want to try Pure Honey, lots of people have mentioned it! Thanks for watching ❤️
Girl this topic is well researched
Am very proud of you
Thank you for the history lesson
Thank you 😊 have a fab weekend! 🥰
Ohh such nostalgia from Glow by J.Lo and Fantasy by Britney, these ruled my teenage years! Loved this video! xx
Yes, it takes you back doesn't it? I felt very nostalgic making this 😂
Gosh Claire, you must spend ages researching all this information.
I think I
I''m in agreement with you that nowdays influencers are the ones who inspire younger people more than celebrities, hence the success of Kayali fragrances and Huda Beauty.
Thank you Fiona, I am happy you enjoyed this. ❤️
Yes I had no idea either about Sophia Loren.
I didn't try Minuit et demi but I hope to soon. Ariana fragrances really seem to fit with how you would imagine she would be. Thanks for watching ❤️
Agree with you and well I have to say I do have a few from the ones listed in this video ❤❤❤ great video and topic
Oh I love Stash and Lovely. I need to check out more of the Nirvana line, I only have Amethyst. Thanks for watching ❤️

I wonder if Sofia Lauren enjoyed her namesake fragrance 🤔
I didn’t enjoy Glow either. I do like a soapy fragrance but Glow is very sharp to my nose 🤷🏽♀️
I definitely appreciate celebrities who are directly involved in the process and try to have the fragrance reflect their tastes. It must be an awesome feeling 😊
Yes I wonder... To me with modern eyes, she was an unusual choice for a fragrance, but she must have been very popular back then. 🤷♀️
i remember my shock when I tried glow, I was surprised that I didn't like it 😂
There's definitely something special about a fragrance that fits the celebrity. Ariana Grande fragrances feel like they fit her and I think that really helped to make cloud even bigger too. 🥰
I love this history background content, I really like fragrances it’s nice to know all of these information
I love it too! These are some of my favourite videos to make! ❤️ Thanks for watching 🥰
I’m so so excited to hear and get educated about this subject ☕️
I had no idea about how big some of these releases have been. The amount of money that celebrities make from the fragrances, even years later, is astounding!

Thank you! I really appreciate that! 🥰
Great overview of celebrity fragrances and the trends, Claire!!!👏👏👏

Very well researched video! I keep a bottle of JLo Miami Glow for nostalgia's sake, though I don't really like wearing it anymore. I have a fragrance by Antonio Banderas that I ended up just using as a room freshener, but I found it really funny and surprising that he has a fragrance line

Claire this was a great video. I love any celebrity fragrance as long as it smells good. So far favorite is lovely.
Thanks Pat 🥰 yes me too, I'm not fussed who markets it. I just want it to smell amazing. Thanks for watching ❤️
Such a joy to watch your videos... ❤ Elizabeth Taylor & JLo was my starter pack 😃
Haha! I think a lot of people started with one of those two. 😊
This was brilliant!! 👏Thank you Claire 🙏😍 xx
Thank you 😊
Happy Saturday Dr Claire.
I have tested Cloud and I think they hit that sweet spot for all the reasons you stated in the video.
I thought it was a load of hype before I tried them and I felt I'd wronged them 😂
Minuit et demi I've not tried but someone offered to let me have a spray so I'll let you know if I am similarly underwhelmed. I expect to be...😉
Cloud is just hitting all the buttons I think.
Hey- I mean if they smell good..... wear well..... have pretty and interesting presentations.... I'm here for it!
For sure! Celebrity fragrances can be hit and miss but some are absolutely stunning for the price. Thanks for watching 🥰
Clare ,I am in such awe of you 🤩The time you spend doing research does not go unnoticed by me 🤩
I totally agree that these celebrities are not wearing there own fragrances ,it’s all about the almighty $$$ but that being said I do have a couple of gems that I love regardless whether they wear them or not 🤷♀️
Thank you 😊 yes I think if I like a fragrance, it doesn't matter whether it matches the celebrity or not, but I guess that's because I buy perfumes for their smell, not because I like the celebrity. 🤔 There are some fab ones out there! 😍
When she mentioned M by Mariah Carey I clapped! I wear that perfume often! It is absolutely gorgeous! It’s definitely a hidden gem!
It must have been a bestseller back in the day. Thanks for watching 🥰
My favourite celebrity fragrances at the moment are Born Lovely- particularly lovely in hot weather; Still by Jennifer Lopez - a great spa type scent and Indi by Katy Perry which to me is an interesting sandalwood fragrance.
Great video Claire- really interesting.
Thank you ❤️
I've tried still and I finished a bottle of Indi.
Yes 😂 I'm the same! I get overexcited and try too many at once.
Thank you 😊
Wow, 2 bottles of white diamonds a year, you are a serious fan!
J.lo Still was my first celebrity fragrance❤ love it !
They take you right back to that time don't they?! 😊
Hello Claire,
I learned so much today! Thanks for sharing your take on the history and interest in celebrity fragrance.
I look forward to your weekly video on Saturday.
Have a great day! 🌻
💛~ Jenn
Thanks Jenn! I really enjoyed researching this. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend. 🥰
Fascinating video!! Lovely was one of the first fragrances I ever bought. I still like it ❤ Thanks!!!
Thank you! I enjoyed researching this ☺️ lovely is a fab fragrance for how little it costs, such a good one. 🥰
I learned a lot from this video - thanks for putting in the research.
Thank you! That means a lot ❤️
Loved this video! ❤
Thank you 😊 that means a lot 🥰
Fab video. Thanks. X
Thank you ❤️ oh I need to try Eilish no 2! I've heard so much about it 😊 Cloud is very loved isn't it? Thanks for watching ❤️
@@dr.claire.perfume it’s very interesting. Very androgynous and has a burnt wood smell. Honestly more of a winter fragrance. Smells good on me and my husband.
Ok thanks! It sounds like something I would enjoy! ❤️
Great video! I love Stash! It was discontinued, so I bought 6 bottles and stash my Stash in the fridge.
Thank you ❤️
😂 I agree, Stash is fab! That will last you a while 👍
What a fun video!
Thanks Emma! I didn't realise he owned the brand! That's really interesting and makes total sense! Thanks for watching ❤️ have a fab Sunday 🥰
This was so interesting, Claire...thank you very much!
Aah no problem Jim, glad you enjoyed it. 🥰
Elizabeth Taylor was my first, I still have the original passion 😉 I’m here for the history!
Wow Sunny! I am impressed 👍 I never tried it! What's it like? Is it as loud as white diamonds?
I had exactly the same issue with Heat, very short lived. I went through a 100ml bottle very quickly. Thanks for watching ❤️
I love these deep dives!
Me too 😊
Lovely is amazing. I need a bottle in my collection.
It's a nice clean relaxing one 🙂
KKW fragrance honestly had my heart. KKW Body 1 and Body 2 were unreal…so sad her fragrance brand closed.
Yes, KKW were quite different and interesting weren't they? And actually I only found out that KKW had ceased when I made this video 😭
@@dr.claire.perfume I know DEVASTATING 😭😭😭
Thanks for watching ❤️
@@dr.claire.perfume That's a good jargon, I'll borrow that:):) Macerate:)
😉 😂
I love your videos.
Thank you 😊 I hope you have a fab weekend 🥰
Very informative thank you!
Thanks for watching ❤️
Have you ever tried Elizabeth Taylor violet eyes? I love this fragrance. I’m so old school. Hahahahaha
I haven't! I will look it up! 🙂
I love White Dioamonds, my mom used to love it and I have nice memories about it. And my cat acts really weird with it haha
Haha 😂 I never heard that before. I wonder what spooks the cats in it?! It's very strong! 🤣
Ohh I was hoping you would mention Sofia Vergara as I love that one more than coco Mademoiselle! I adore cloud !
Thank you so much for sharing and have a fantastic weekend ❤
I really love Fancy by Jessica Simpson and went through 2 bottles but I think I’m done with celebrity fragrances now !
@@dr.claire.perfume haha 😂 we can never say never 🤷♀️
Yes! 🤣
For me the true gem in celeb fragrances is Adam Levin perfume, i adore it❤
That one had a lot of fans I think, but also a lot of people who dislike it. I guess it's the marigold. Thanks for watching ❤️
That’s a good one - a nice sandalwood.
Anne Klein 11 is very good too.
@@dr.claire.perfume Agreed on the Britney perfumes. And my pleasure! :)
😊
Hello beautiful Claire here watching
Hey Pat 🥰
This was great! I learned so much
Thanks Tara, have a fab Sunday 🥰
My first celeb perfume was Naomi Campbell Naomagic, a few years later I got Curious by Britney 😁
Naomi did a few didn't she? What was it like? I didn't try it. Curious is a classic, the bottle just looks like 2004 😂
Reb'l Fleur(2010)
• coconut
• flowers
• redwood
I think a lot of Rihanna's fragrances did well for her but the one that has stood the test of time is Rogue, that one still gets hype and praise ☺️
