Good Job Sir. As you long as you put food/coffee on a fire and talk bushcraft and outdoors just like we are sitting there with you ..... I will watch. Tasty looking first Salmon. Subscribed. Looking forward to more.
I was just thinking maybe you could throw down a thin layer of thin spruce or pine branches to create a natural turf over the mud. Like what you'd use for a spruce bed to sleep on but for flooring instead so you don't have wet mud only to walk through. Couldn't hurt.. It would just turn to mulch and dry out eventually for kindling or whatever. I don't know what species of trees you have to pick from. If it were me I would get a few branches from several pine or spruce or Christmas type trees so I didn't hurt any one live tree. Even if you were to get just enough for a walkway to your shelter and fire. Food for thought. I noticed the mud problem in many other videos where they built super shelters with a wall around it like Survival Lilly, TA Outdoors, Bushwacker man and they swept the leaves out and ended up with mud when it rained or snowed. I feel that defeats the purpose of having what's supposed to be a dry place to live & survive outdoors. I know it may be important for fire safety but when it's wet there's not much risk of a forest fire if you put down a thin lawyer of bows for walking and keeping your gear dry and out of the mud. It would be somewhat time consuming but worth it. Cleaning mud off of boots & gear or slipping and cracking your back. Been there done that...
@@SomewhereOutside one alternative may be a couple cheap bags of mulch. Depending on how important it is to prevent the mud soup. I'm thinking just a sprinkle of the right mulch would make a huge difference in that mud. It wouldn't have to be stacked like a garden where they're trying to avoid weeds and hold in moisture. I am just batting around ideas because I am on SSI and can't afford new boots or clothes or gear if I dropped it in soupy mud and gommed it up. That woukd suck to drop a multi-tool, a silky saw or other folding tool in really wet mud and then try to use it... Or drop your steak in it! Eeeew.
@@NAVYWhistleblowerAssassin The steaks always stay protected and well cared for above everything else! Haha. Not a bad idea at all. Maybe if we get some decent snow I'll carry some in on a pulk. 👍
@@SomewhereOutside I am dealing with muddy conditions in Buffalo from a huge snow melting. I am in an urban area so I can't build a fire. I am well hidden but a fire would blow my stealth... So I broke down the brush in the middle of the night that I had to clear and threw the 2000+ twigs from the brush and scattered it all over my pathways. Homemade mulch. I had a widowmaker that already broke off and was dangling over my head being held up by brush. A good wind and it would have crushed my shelter- and me if I were in it, so cleared out the brush keeping it afloat. The twigs made for a nice mulched path. Making a video tonight then uploading to TH-cam tommorow evening. There's still some mud but I am NOT sinking down into it. Especially in Nike SHOX. I have muck boots but they're heavy and I save them for snow and rain. I will let you know when it's posted.
Excellent video my friend, we enjoyed it enough we subbed you. Keep up the fun videos, we look forward to seeing more from your channel. Working on making a little bushcraft camping area in my neck of the woods as well. Going to be a fun year my friend. Dale
mark duncan hahaha, our winters as of late have been very lackluster but here in northeast Ohio we get some crazy lake effect weather at times. I'd love to get into the north woods of Canada though! A place like that will let you know what your made of real quick! Thanks for watching and for the support.
Seems like these shelter videos show the cutting of many trees, I dont care, but is it your land or does the national forest not care if they are smaller trees. Many of those are obviously freshly cut.
In the beginning of the video I specifically state the signs of the recent logging that happened in that area. It is private land I have permission to camp on and the landowner had a logging company come in to clear out the ash trees that were infected with emerald ash borer. Had they waited another year or 2 before having the ash trees cleared they wouldn't have been able to sell the lumber. But thanks for your comment! 👍
He was in his hammock and has a 0 degree underquilt. Also, probably didn't want to risk any sparks from the fire burning his rig. And he smells a little funny so I make sure he parks a bit away from me when setting up camp 😁
...next time, just stick the sawhorse top pole into the crotch of that tree it's leaning against, & hammer it down. Leave the "A" on the other end. Very sturdy.
Fantastic video bud, them burgers looked fan-friggin-tastic! Camp Swamp town is a beauty location, days like that though can add 5 pounds to your boots eh? I look forward to the next one. Cheers!
Somewhere Outside sure will buddy. I’m getting more interested in the bushcrafting side of things and it’s a lot different than my normal backpacking so I’m trying to soak up as much as I can on the different equipment etc.
Might want to RESEARCH current SALMON CONTAMINATION as well as immune system dysfunction in farmed salmon. This is critical for people and dog food. Serious here
This is an old post. Seems EPA won't allow testing of "fish farms". Native Americans expected millions of salmon from ocean this last run. numbers counted: 10,000. What happened to the millions? Salmon are fatty fish. Tend to hold toxins in fat. Pass right onto whatever is up the food chain. Has anyone seen the seal population losing their hair? Almost a prion affect. www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/apr/01/is-farming-salmon-bad-for-the-environment Also, fish meal is prepared aboard ship or it is very combustible. Unfortunately in dogs, for instance, it is like bologna or hot dogs in children, turns nitrates into nitrites, in dog food it's something different - same toxicity. Sorry, love your videos, love to be outdoors, love NATURE. Sad that exploitation of earth and who would build a NUCLEAR REACTOR on a fault zone to be STILL LEAKING TODAY into the Pacific ocean.
Thanks for taking me along!😊
Thanks for sharing.

No pines in that area or I would. I wish I had access to pines or spruce at that camp.

amy fletcher no worries, I appreciate the comment. I'll have a look at his video. I'm always trying to learn better skills in the woods.
Where at in Ohio? I'm in mason county wv, looking for people to camp with.
Why did your brother in law sleep so far from the fire?
