- Carlton has enjoyed its best win this season, stopping dead Port Adelaide's club-record winning streak with a 50-point belting at Marvel Stadium.
Jesse Motlop was the unlikely firestarter with four first-half goals and Charlie Curnow was outstanding as the Blues led from the start on Saturday on the way to a convincing 18.14 (122) to 10.12 (72) win.

The pressure around the ground for Carlton was immense. Not letting them have space to get easy kicks. Great footy !

Neutral fan here but have watched Carlton play the last few weeks but credit where credit is due they have changed the way how they’re playing. No more slow movement at all. People can devalue this win because Port had players out and to be honest from all reports the players that were left out of the game yesterday are expected to play next week against Collingwood and if Port have prioritised that game over the Carlton game that’s a very arrogant decision. You can tell Carlton each week are getting more and more confident and it will be effective. They probably won’t win the flag but you wouldn’t want to play a group like this who have a lot of confidence late in the season or even in the first week of finals.
After West Coast their run home is very hard and they’re playing exactly like Sydney were late last season like building that confidence each week. Will be interesting seeing how they go against the Pies in a few weeks time. Would much rather see a team like Carlton with how they’re playing than the rubbish Saints making the 8. Best of luck to the run home for those blues fans.

Port Adelaide always struggle in away games like most interstate teams.. This is the first away game port have played in a long time, These teams are always over-rated, and usually bomb out in the finals.

@Pro324589 injuries but they still beat us in most stats. Blues pressure was undeniable around the ball and they wernt letting Port get a clean kick inside 50. Injuries had nothing to do with it especially in a 50 point win

Blues wanted it more, but Port really did play themselves out of it. Lord needs to do some goal kicking practice and Tom Jonas has to hand the captaincy over at the end of the year. He looked like a fish out of water.

So wild that 2 months ago people were calling for blood. They are one of the best teams right now. I don’t know if this is the system Voss was always working on and it’s finally clicked, or they made massive changes to it, but it’s working. The buy-in and connection between the players is 🚀🚀🚀

I loved this game! Captivating from start to finish! I love the way Blues are playing!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Their ball movement was elite, their pressure off the charts. I love their aggression both ways. Everything is working. They're contesting at everything. They’ve all bought in. There was not a bad moment. They didn’t take their foot off Port’s neck!! It was such an evenly-spread performance, and 9 different goal scorers. I hope they make finals. They are gonna cause a lot of teams trouble.

I wasn't sure who to tip between Carlton and Port Adelaide. I went with Carlton because they seem to spring these upsets on random years. Port Adelaide were expected to trounce Carlton, but the Blues cut the Power and it is safe to say that Carlton are back after a month or two of mediocrisy. The Blues need to keep up the good offense if they are to make a late-season charge. Port Adelaide will need to bring their best next week against Collingwood. What about that second quarter from Carlton?

Great game to watch live. People are saying that the pressure from Carlton was amazing and top tier but in fact it was the drop off from Port that gave the illusion that Carlton were playing above average. McKenzie was a big out for Port and with no Rioli and Dixon it was hard to find targets and convert to goals. Motlop from Carlton was a nice surprise, kicking 4 goals I believe when he just made selection. Lord on the other hand for Port needs to work on his kicking if he want's to be a tall forward with the likes of Cameron, Dixon, Naughton etc.
This just makes it funnier for when Carlton miss the 8 again on %.

Thats your problem Ken, your too stubborn to know , Jeremy Finlayson is not a ruck man!!!! Hes the worst at it he pushes people in the back like crisp and gives a way a goal , in the center bounce your giving a free tap to the opposition, sometimes he doesnt even compete think they are going to tap it to him. When are you going to wake up. Its the center bounce, your back line is your next problem, when is your captain going to take a contested Mark in defense. And Chase is not a backman. Your broken tackles is your other problem against better side like next week, its going to be a horror show.

What I learnt from Port’s loss.
Port’s winning streak was overrated and several games were luck based outcomes.
Port hasn’t played one dominate 4 quarter game.
Port have little to no depth.
Port have several players that are not at AFL standard: Jonas, Lord, Burgoyne, Mead.
Port must change their captain and play a kid in his place for the remainder of the season (Pasini).
Port desperately need another ruckman.
Lycett should of played in the SANFL to build match fitness.
Port deperately need another strong intercept defender.
The CERTAINTY of next week.
They will LOSE convincingly.
Agree with you on some points. But I think any big steak will have some luck in it, but you don't win 13 by mistake. Did Port need to win this game, no, especially after the Lions loss, but they do normally play ok at Marvel, but I think they did came up against an in-form Blues.
Now the Pies match, I'm going with Port on this one. It's always a little hard to judge some Melbourne teams away because they don't travel as much. Minus the gather round, only 4 games outside of VIC for the Pies. I just had a look at the Pies run home after the Port game, all at home haha what a dream run! Could potentially get to the GF without having to leave Melbourne. Pies don't need to win this game, Port do. Don't want to potentially face off against a team in the finals or GF that has smoked you twice already. Port by 20 points.
@@jamesguthrie7749 I feel Port should make a play for Grundy. Melbourne have publicly stated they will try to work on Grundy’s forward craft despite Grundy being a pure Ruckman. Both Gawn and Grundy ruck better when they are the sole ruckman.

@@Jamie_one_of_many_prophets They will come close..(prelim voodoo). They have a group of players in career best form who can go a long way to winning them games. Two home finals would be massive for Port.
@@jamesguthrie7749 Port have had two opportunities to make the Grand Final in the past 3 years and both occasions they failed and the last one was a monumental failure. You could argue Port are a top 5 team based purely on their position on the ladder however their performance leaves a lot to be desired. Port have had many opportunities to dominate a team yet they don’t capitalise on their momentum which would suggest they are only marginally better than mid-tier teams.
