    how is Shao Kahn not on this list? In his debut, he was an absolutely iconic final boss battle. In game, he was a better schemer and more manipulative than Shang Tsung, possessed powerful magic and strength after consuming 1000s of souls, and ruled over a massive empire. Eventually he'd go on to even defeat blaze and Onaga, proving himself the most powerful warrior in the series. Only chosen one Liu Kang and elder god empowered Raiden could defeat him, otherwise every time he entered the game it was always a moment where you felt dread and wondered how they'd possibly defeat this guy. Flash forward to MK11 and he is basically a weak thug who can't seem to do anything right without Sindel. He even loses in 1v1 combat to Kitana, who in the old games straight up was incapable of defeating him. Then they reconned all his scheming so that it was basically Sindel's idea. guy went from a 10 strength 10 intelligence mega threat to a 5 strength 2 intelligence dumb henchman, ruining the most iconic villain of the franchise in favor of Shang Tsung, who was originally just his puppet (don't get me wrong, Shang Tsung final villain was fantastic, but it should have taken a hell of a scheme to topple Shoa Kahn instead of what we got)

      Modern Shao Kahn is a shadow of his former self because the writers don't seem to understand the character. He's not just a big beefy guy that hits you with a hammer, he's a brilliant strategist and mastermind. Resurrecting Sindel was HIS plan, merging the realms was HIS plan, he betrayed Onaga purely through out thinking him, not because he won a fist fight.

    Derek Simmons was never a compelling villain, and certainly didn't infect himself. The whole game comes about essentially because he simps hard for Ada, who rejects him, so he uses the virus to turn Carla Radames (another scientist who had a crush on simmons) physically into Ada. Radames, pissed off at having been messed with, infects simmons (through a nameless grunt).

    I'm gonna say Sephiroth gets my vote for this kind of list. His debut in the OG FF7 painted him as a mysterious, elusive, boogieman type threat. You heard whispers of him and his accomplishments, but he is supposed to be dead, so what even are you dealing with? Getting those answers as you play the game was nothing short of an epiphany of what video game stories could be.
    Now?... Sephy's just an attention-seeking, Cloud-obsessed, pretentious doof. OG Sephiroth didn't know or care who Cloud is. The plot twist of the game went out of its way to show that Cloud was just some nobody, but now, he and Sephiroth are star-crossed rivals whose battle will determine the fate of the multiverse... Gag.

    • @SpaghettiYOLOKingTTV
      @SpaghettiYOLOKingTTV ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Because the new games aren't a remake, they're a sequel in the form of redoing the events of the original and changing events. That's why Sephiroth and Aerith have memories from the original. If you knew the person that killed you and ended your mission and you had the chance to do it all over while retaining memories of what happened, are you seriously saying you wouldn't pay a bit more attention to the person that ultimately stopped you? Because if you don't, you're essentially doing the same exact thing over again, which is literally insane.

    • @tdblackboxx6866
      @tdblackboxx6866 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SpaghettiYOLOKingTTV Yeah, I get that. That's also one of my beefs with FF7R; it being a sequel rather than a remake. It takes the original's theme of loss and how it affects our identities, and turns into a boring "define your own fate" story. Also, all the appearances in Kingdom Hearts pull the same thing. It's almost like Nomura didn't understand Cloud and Sephiroth's dynamic in FF7.
      All that said, I still feel that all this supplementary material ruined Sephiroth as a villain. He's more annoying now, in my opinion.

    • @immortalfrieza
      @immortalfrieza ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's made pretty clear a big part of Sephiroth's motivation in the original game is screwing with Cloud because he killed him in the backstory. That's why Sephiroth spends the first half of the game screwing with Cloud's head.
      Of course, the second half he just does nothing just like Kefka but...

    • @tdblackboxx6866
      @tdblackboxx6866 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@immortalfrieza I don't agree with that, simply for the reason that it isn't Sephiroth who even brings up that Cloud killed him (in the OG FF7, that is). He messed with Cloud to manipulate him into getting the black materia. That's all Cloud was to Sephy; a useful puppet. Once he got what he wanted, he left Cloud and co. alone until they came crashing through his front door in the final dungeon. That only added to Sephiroth's appeal as the villain, in my opinion. He doesn't care because he thinks he's above all that nonsense. The subsequent material just makes him out to be more of a clown than Kefka. He's no longer a boogeyman; he's constantly in your face, goading you into killing fate, and absolutely destroying the theme of the original. After all, who cares about loss when you can just time travel and kill the arbiters of fate to bring people back from the dead?

    • @immortalfrieza
      @immortalfrieza ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tdblackboxx6866 "I don't agree with that, simply for the reason that it isn't Sephiroth who even brings up that Cloud killed him"
      Sephiroth doesn't bring it up because it would undermine the mind games he's playing with Cloud, as shown by when Cloud actually finds out what happened his misery and delusion ends. Sephiroth is taking advantage of Cloud's delusion to screw with him due to Sephiroth's resentment over Cloud killing him. Sephiroth could easily have gotten the Black Materia and completed his plans at any time in the game, but he manipulates Cloud into doing it for him because he's screwing with Cloud for the sake of revenge.
      In fact, at one point Sephiroth even has the Black Materia on hand and could've gone straight to the Northern Crater to give it to his real self. Instead he plays a convoluted game where he kills Aerith and gives the Black Materia to Cloud so he... could then have Cloud give it to him at the Norther Crater.
      He leaves Cloud and Co alone after he gets the Black Materia because he's just waiting for his plan to be completed. In Sephiroth's mind he already won and all he has to do is wait around for a few days. It isn't until Cloud and Co show up at the Northern Crater that he bothers to do anything because there's no reason to.

    For me, Tiny wasn't the worst casualty of that era of Crash. Crunch was. See, Tiny had like two appearances in the Titan games and that was it, his remake was dead and gone. But Crunch? They've kept him a furry Mr T since then, even though Wrath Of Cortex Crunch had some brain, a vengeful desire and not just mindless anger, and a gravelly voice not a "URGH! PITY THE FOOL! URGH!" one.
    Crunch could've been a great character, maybe even a playable one to add variety given he's heavier but stronger than Crash or Coco (imagine a Crash game were you could swap between the three on the fly, mid-level, to access different paths or secrets). But in Twinsanity he was reduced in size and given no speaking roles, and afterwards he was just ruined.
    As I say, Tiny at least broke free of his cursed remake.

    Mass Effect's the reapers/the Kett from Andromeda. It seems unfair to say both ME central villain factions deserve a spot, but they both suffer from the same development issues, and that's the fact the developers didn't know what to do with them. The Reapers are giant killer robots for Christ sakes and even with all the dlc their goals and creation make no sense and leave no closure for the final confrontation with them, and the Kett are just a group of aliens that forcibly mutate others into being like them as if that's a whole new thing in Mass Effect as that's literally what the reapers were doing.

These two villains are originally in the first Tomb Raider (which they survive) only to run up against Lara in her pursuit of the Philosopher’s Stone. This story sees both of them meet their end, and in rather unfortunate ways. Larson gets killed by a revived gargoyle as he ignores Lara’s warning, and Pierre falls to his death in a scenario which could lead to charges of manslaughter at best and 1st degree murder at worst. Despite being the final boss of the iconic SF2 that truly kicked off the franchise, ever since M. Bisons role has been downgraded to more of a deuteragonist. He still moves the needle in the story, but hes never as big and bad as the next person despite running his own shadow organization seeking world domination. Also the fact that he always ends up betrayed and thwarted by some of his own henchmen or experiments like the Dolls, or his former apprentice Rose. The only constants are Balrog and Vega who keep their relations to a purely financial and professional one, but every other person Bison tends to deal with has a hand in Bisons failure. Then there is the fact that Bison is constantly struggling to find a new vessel for his degrading body every single game and every single body he attempts to take is a resounding failed attempt. At the moment Bisons body is completely just gone, but his soul still lives on and he is in search for a new body after still failing to find one. Let me just say I love how the developers of Sonic, at the _very least,_ have been open minded.
    His love of chili-dogs was established in the Jaleel White cartoon, and they liked that so much they actually made that a part of his character (favorite food = chili-dogs)
    And I *REALLY* hope that Jim Carey's take on the character rubs off on future games, as well, lol
    Almost as much as I hope he gets fat in the 3rd movie, lmao

    Maybe this list should be called "10 underwhelming villains" or "10 villains not as cool as you thought" or "10 villains who peaked too early" or something cause the title was a little misleading and clickbaity. Your complaints about Eggman and Waluigi aren't really that they got ruined, just that they stayed the same over time (which, personally, seems fine to me), and the metal gear guy existed for a portion of a single game. So saying he was "ruined over time" might be... Sorry, "RUINED over time" might be a stretch. I love what culture. I've watched a lot of your lists and while I don't always agree with the entries this is the first time I've ever felt like the title didn't match most of the content.

    It wasn't Joel's death that ruined the game for me. It was that the devs had to literally force a change on his and Tommy's personalities and make them total derps who forgot all the hardship they went through to make it possible for him to get killed in the first place. He just hangs out with this huge group of random people without any hesitation and then reveals his name without a care in the world so they can confirm he's their target. LoU 1 Joel would never be that monumentally stupid. And if anything he would be even more careful knowing he essentially destroyed the Fireflies and a cure for the Cordyceps in one fell swoop.

    • @TopNotchStoner
      @TopNotchStoner ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Should Joel and Tommy have just taken their chances with the horde instead of seeking shelter with strangers? They were already gonna be killed by infected, so it made perfect sense for them to trust some strangers in that moment.
      Even so, Joel was still suspicious and on-guard when they arrived at the mansion. You can see it in his body language and hear it in his voice. He knew something was wrong almost immediately.
      Also, Abby already knew who they were before Joel introduced himself, because Tommy told her their names when they were still being chased by the horde. That's part of the reason Abby suggested that they go to the mansion in the first place.

I think the trouble is/was that the original T.T. was a product of their own limitations -- he was a low-I.Q. brute because that was the most they could do with the PS1. So when they finally could do more, they wanted to do more, not expecting the Crash fans to go full Rain Man on them for it.

    I personally enjoyed the boss fights with Simmons. They're so bonkers. It's part of what of what makes that game so delightfully absurd. He is still a disappointing villain, though. Because he is the biggest, most spoiled, idiotic creeper EVER. You play Leon's campaign and meet a cold, calculating, ruthless villain in complete control and then watch as everything he cares about falls apart. You almost relish it as he gets his just desserts. Then, as Chris and Sherry, Simons is all but absent, and you mainly deal with the real villain Not-Ada. The revelation.that Sherry works for Simmons is completely meaningless because it's the first time he's even mentioned in her campaign!
    Then you play as Real-Ada and find out that the whole thing, the entire crisis started because Simmons was so obsessed with Ada that he spent billions of dollars, killing millions of women, just to alter their DNA so they would look like Ada 🙄 that's it. And the brainwashed woman who found out that she wasn't originally Ada went out for revenge.
    That is the stupidest thing ever. First of all, plastic surgery is a thing, second, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?! The most groan inducing dramatic reveal ever 🤣😂🤣
    However, for people like me that find RE6 a guilty pleasure, it's that level of stupidity that's part of the game's charm. They called this thing "the ultimate horror experience." 😂 wtf? 😂

Ellie and Joel were more than justified, the Fireflies were a militaristic cult of terrorists whose plan would not have worked. Simmons did not infect himself. You aren't a villain for saying that people can't kill someone to maybe make a cure. Everyone deserves their life.
    And there's a difference between everyone is dealing with the fungus vs taking someone's life to make your life better. If you'll rationalize killing someone for any reason other than protection, then you'll be able to find a reason to take anyone's life.

    • @jmann6368
      @jmann6368 ปีที่แล้ว

      not to mention, there are multiple problems with this cure plan:
      1. vaccines can't cure fungal infections
      2. this game takes place 20 years after the first outbreak, most resources are now gone and not as plentiful for mass vaccination
      3. what is their plan to get this cure out, go to every QZ ignorant about the fact the Militia will kill them on sight and probably use this vaccine to maintain control
      4. not to mention, people will still kill each other for supplies and will attempt to kill the Fireflies due to their reputation as terrorists
      5. hostile groups like the Hunters, WLF, Seraphites, Cannibals, Rattlers, and etc. will still exist
      6. how to are they gonna handle the whole "more than half of the population is infected or dead" sure you can't turn no more, but that doesn't mean they won't try to kill you and eat you
      the game acts like once this cure is made, everything will return to how it was before the outbreak. This world is too damaged to be repaired

    • @skeletorgames8641

      @thedarkstarr11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's pretty clear that Joel had been an absolute horrible human being over the past twenty years before Ellie showed up. He hinted at it himself. Joel simply was the villain we would come to understand as we were in control of his actions. It made him relatable, sympathetic (to some). Though, I don't believe he started the conflict. Did he add to it? Oh yes, but he wasn't who initiated it. The Fireflies clearly had ill intent towards Ellie, and their...understanding...of science was downright risible. Abby herself displayed a serious lack of empathy, and in fact during her scene with Dina, appeared to relish the thought of killing her, AFTER knowing her circumstances. In a way, she's a dark reflection of both Joel and Ellie, though the writers fumbled the ball, and didn't clearly establish her with significant sympathetic traits. They dropped the ball.
      That doesn't mean that Joel should be excused for his actions...Joel never cared about the cure, and while I will maintain that the Fireflies 'cure' was NEVER, EVER going to work, and was scientifically improbable...Joel didn't know that, couldn't have known that, and DIDN'T CARE. He'd screw over the world for his daughter, and never made an attempt to hide it...except to the one person who he NEEDED to be honest with...which ended up setting HER on a collision course with someone else with a grudge setting up a very depressing cycle of pain and revenge.
      Good Job, Joel. Good Job.
