I love this season. It’s like a dark comedy. The coach cult is one of the most interesting alliances. I wish Coach would have taken the mask off at final tribal. I don’t think he would have won because a lot of people are offended by him using religion to manipulate others. 🤷🏻♀️
I read on the survivor Reddit before and it helped change my perspective on how Jeff can narrate everything a bit much sometimes. For people who are blind and/or visually impaired his commentary is apparently really helpful. Just my 2 cents when I hear people complain that we can see we don't need him to explain this! Well some do. 💚
This season is such a fascinating one to unpack, love the coverage from you three. Scally bringing up the moment where Coach runs to his tribe and forces them all to pray after they win that crucial immunity challenge.... it's HARROWING. So uncomfortable and complex, but that's what makes SoPa as unique as it is, for the better or worse. Haven't seen anything like it since on Survivor and I can't imagine we ever will again.
Great episode! I really think South Pacific is underrated, so it was fun to hear a deep dive! There are so many interesting/unique dynamics and storylines in South Pacific that never get discussed since its an older season
At around the 2 hr 21 min mark there was a religious metaphor / analogy / reference / example / joke, whatever you wanna say. As a Christian, I thought it was pretty funny. I really liked it!
We may not have gotten much from Sophie this season, but everything we did get was gold, one of my favorite winners even before Winners at War. Such a fun season in general, if you have a dark sense of humor.
In my opinion, Coach is very similar to Paul from BB18 and 19. Neither of them ran the game their first season, so the dominated when they came back with new players after they had to teach themselves how to play the game. However, their character and lack of understanding of jury management lost them the game. (They also got outplayed by the likable superfan in the end so that too)
Christine said in her quarantine questionnaire that she would've rejoined Upolu if she came back in the game and when she flipped off Rick she was actually flipping off Probst and the edit made it seem like it was against Rick.
Anyone else think Ozzy was bitter toward Sophie bc she grew up wealthier than him and had just graduated college and is going to med school. When his whole goal on Cook Islands was to use the million to go to college?
This was a pretty unlikable cast except for like two people in the endgame and a few early boots, and a super predictable season. We’re told pretty early on that Coach, Sophie, and Albert are running everything and it’s a straight shot for them to the end. It makes sense that it’s not bottom 10, but I feel like it places correctly Edit: I definitely think Sophie at least says “I’m gonna win” when she’s composing herself after fighting with Ozzy
What's his name❓ What was his birth 👶 name❓It wasn't Coach ⚽️, it was Benjamin👨. And you know they're children 👦👧; 2️⃣6️⃣, 2️⃣2️⃣, they're over there listening 👂 to all of Benjamin's👨... 🎃Halloween Jokes🎃, uh, 🧀Chuckie The Cheese Jokes🧀, they- 👅 eu-h, they want it 🙏. He goin off of loyalty ⭐️ got them fee- "😰Oh, Benjamin👨, you so loyalty😓" ... Come on now 😑... Everyday📆 he got a story 📚. I wasn't ❌ buying 💰 it. [scoff] 😤 [giggle] ☺️... Eh😒... No. 🙅 So... They tr- like yesterday ↩️ the tribal 🏝 was all kahoots 👌 Benjamin👨,"Let's give a hug 🤗." ✋️PFF.✋️ Keep that hug. Boop!🔫 For me. Cuz it wasn't real❌
Umm if Coach won, he would obviously replaced Sophie’s in WAW cuz she would not have won the season. Anyway, I felt like Ozzy’s social game is under rated. In my opinion his social game is far better than many of the winners. If he had won that final immunity, he would have won that season - all the jurors were rooting for him to win and he received a round of applause when he was voted out. Anyone who got that much love from the jury has a pretty good social game imo
I think it’s underrated every season kinda. If he was so unlikeable as some people think, people wouldn’t try to vote him out every single time. I mean why would you care about his potential immunity run if the jurors are unlikely to pick him.
Honestly, I do think the Cochran flip was the right move. He was gonna have to flip at some point anyway as his tribe had shown time and time again that they weren’t gonna work with him so it’s better to start right then and there to build some relationship with the opposing tribe and if they Pagong his old tribe, at the very least he has 4 more tribals to figure out the tribe dynamic and potentially slip in through the cracks. Of course it ends up not working out but it’s kind of his best shot at that point in the game.
Amen it’s a total train wreck in terms of casting and the lack of a tribe swap made a pagonining inevitable and I dunno why we needed to see Ozzy and Coach on the same season like they never even had a season together. I never wanna see anyone from this season ever again besides Stacey she’s a legend
This season ranked #37 for me. On a rewatch, this season just makes me cringe so much that it's ridiculous. This cast was ok, but just the way the season played out just annoyed me. I don't mind religion being in Survivor, but the way it gets utilized in this season is so played out that it just infuriates me. The pre-merge wasn't great in my opinion, but it wasn't terrible. The fact that tribes basically traded blows early in the season led up to a pretty good merge episode. I thought Ozzy's pre-merge boot was the dumbest thing ever since you could easily tell Cochran was ready to flip whenever he could. That move was so bad, and I wasn't surprised that it ended up failing them at the next vote. Second of all, Brandon just annoys me this season, and I thought he was so hypocritical throughout the whole season, that I just couldn't stand his religious antics with Coach. The edit was so predictable in the merge. Even after all the Savaii members are voted out, you could tell Cochran, Edna, and Brandon were the next ones to go. And everyone knew Ozzy wasn't going to lose a duel, so it was just a matter of whether or not Ozzy would win out to make the final 3. Even the finale wasn't all that great, Ozzy wins his way back and wins immunity, and so we all knew Rick was gone. After that, Sophie won immunity, and Ozzy went home. Plus, they put so much attention on Coach that I wish we could've seen more of Sophie so that I could've been more satisfied with her win. I thought she had a solid game, but I just wish we could've had more information on her game, which just made the edit disappointing for me. Overall, this season is just so cringe-worthy that even on a rewatch, this season does not appeal to me.
I find this season to be very dark. It's really scary what narcissistic assholes preaching the world of god can come to. Luckily, didn't win and Sophie was smart enough to follow the trend without rubbing it in people's faces like Alfred did (e.g. his final tribal appearance)
Personally, it is one of the worst season. A very boring post merge, unlikeable cast even coach (except for ozzy ), the winner is Sophie 😐 and the worst is the very annoying catholic atmosphere that coach exploited it to manipulate the others. This season has to be next to redemption island is this ranking.
South Pacific is such an underrated season, and Sophie is an underrated winner. She has one of the absolute best philosophies around survivor: why make a move when you’re already in a winning position? Just ride it out and don’t rock the boat, which Sophie nailed

South Pacific and Thailand are Survivor seasons I recommend to anyone studying psychology. The big characters are fascinating to dissect

It’s amazing how Rob and his guest manage to make these lower seasons seem so much more enjoyable than they probably really are
This was an enjoyable season just hidden behind the religious cult motifs!
totally an enjoyable season for me!
Whoop it’s here! Looking forward to another great episode
I love the discussions in these episodes regarding how psychology, game play, and what production's role in the behind the scenes.
At around the 2 hr 21 min mark there was a religious metaphor / analogy / reference / example / joke, whatever you wanna say. As a Christian, I thought it was pretty funny. I really liked it!
I didn't like Sophie in South Pacific BUT I really liked her in Winners at War!
Sameee

Brandons problem with michela was that she talked about drinking all the time and he was a recovering alcoholic
In my opinion, Coach is very similar to Paul from BB18 and 19. Josh was not likeable
Fun fact ,the last time rhap, ranked seasons for survivor, just before 31 came out just like now, the two Cochran seasons were ranked, back 2 back.
Christine said in her quarantine questionnaire that she would've rejoined Upolu if she came back in the game and when she flipped off Rick she was actually flipping off Probst and the edit made it seem like it was against Rick.
Really?
Anyone else think Ozzy was bitter toward Sophie bc she grew up wealthier than him and had just graduated college and is going to med school. When his whole goal on Cook Islands was to use the million to go to college?
Christine and Edna would be amazing returnees for a future season!
This was a pretty unlikable cast except for like two people in the endgame and a few early boots, and a super predictable season. We’re told pretty early on that Coach, Sophie, and Albert are running everything and it’s a straight shot for them to the end. It makes sense that it’s not bottom 10, but I feel like it places correctly
Edit: I definitely think Sophie at least says “I’m gonna win” when she’s composing herself after fighting with Ozzy
I always thought this season was a fun watch
29 is too low for SoPa. It’s a damn good season, and deserves to be at least above 20
Why is Edna my favorite person on this season...
Because she's a freakin icon
I would love a Coach vs Jerri, or Coach vs Courtney. Lastly Coach vs Tyson Instead of what we got with Coach vs Ozzy.

Cochran is one of the most annoying contestants ever.

Coach cant replace Sophie because there would be a gender imbalance for WAW. He has to replace a man for it to fit the format. :)
I think it’s underrated every season kinda. If he was so unlikeable as some people think, people wouldn’t try to vote him out every single time. I mean why would you care about his potential immunity run if the jurors are unlikely to pick him.

I nicknamed this season "Survivor: Religion Island" and it is among my least favorites.

Sophie DID say she’s going to win immunity when Jeff told her to stop crying. Just rewatched that tribal.
Hands down best continuous pagonging, quick and easy
Personal: Marquesas
I absolutely hated this season. Super surprised it wasn't bottom 5

I have no idea how Gabon keeps scraping by...probably bottom 3 season for me
a 36 seasons binge... wow.. or oufff ..
Sophie was a brat on this season
This was ozzy best chance to win 1 puzzle away smh...if he wins this is a top 10 season
Absolutely agree
This cast was way better than SJDS. Are you kidding? SJDS becoming vastly overrated.
