During my RAF days, (1965 - 1971) I spent twelve months or so at nearby RAF Halton. This video brings back lots of happy memories. Spent a lot of time in The Shoulder of Mutton during off duty hours. Lovely to see something of Wendover again. A lovely town.
I arrived in Wendover as a young RAF Apprentice fifty three years ago, this October. I was last there in 2005, staying at the Red Lion. Happy memories. Spent a happy night catching up with a Guy who had come over from the USA, I had last seen him in 1972. more than a few beers in the shoulder of Mutton.
Hello troop! 213 entry 1968 - 1970 and I first got pissed in Wendover on a Saturday night after we were first allowed out! You could get a beer in Wendover below age 18, but in the NAAFI you couldn't as you had to show your ID card. If you arrived 53 years ago it was the year we left! 213 entry finished 1970. We used to drink in the King & Queen pub and our 213 entry shield was put up on the wall there.
Really enjoyed this tour of Wendover. Very well done. Wendover is very dear to me as I lived here as a child and have some lovely memories. I try to visit at least once a year.
Thank you so much! That's really kind of you to say - and I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos, there are certainly many more to come in future, so do stay tuned :)
It certainly is! A spectacular little town surrounded by gorgeous countryside - I think it was once even ranked the fourth best place to live in the UK! Thank you very much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video :)
J'M'EN FAIS PAS J'AI REVISIONNÉE ET C'EST CLAIR COMME DE L'EAU DE ROCHE TOWER CLOCK EN OUVERTURE ET LA MAJESTUEUSE STE MARY EN FINALE !.. MINE DE RIEN ON EST TOUJOURS ENTHOUSIASTE LA SECONDE FOIS !.. SUPER MERCI LET'S WALK ET BON WEEK-END !..
Ha ha absolutely! Many of these towns based on a High Street seem to have more historic pubs than people - but it makes the likes of Wendover a fun and fascinating place to visit :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
SUPER MERCI POUR CETTE TRÈS AGRÉABLE PROMENADE DANS CE TRÈS JOLI VILLAGE OÙ IL FAIT BON VIVRE ET À SA RICHE HISTOIRE PASSIONNANTE !.. Nice walk of the town. I enjoyed it very much. Your walks are always enjoyable, and your history lessons are always great. I like the beautiful, historical medieval buildings and houses. Hope to see more soon. How is your week going? Mine is going great. Have a great day 😀😊
Thank you for the excellent tour and history lesson. Some of my family's ancestors lived in Wendover during the 16th and 17th centuries before emigrating to America. It was quite interesting to see that many of the old places still exist and to hear a bit about what life was like during that time period.
I was born and lived in Wendover and secondary school in the town, the Ridgeway Path goes through main Wendover to the Church of England church,. Oliver Cornwall was in the Red Lion in the Civil War
Nice walk around Wendover, but really just a glance at this historic area, would have been lovely to have extended the filming a bit, with some coverage of the Old School, The Heron Path, and details of Wendover springs, gathering water near the Church and acting as an important feeder for the Grand Union Canal. I went to Primary School in the 1950's. But Thanks, nice film.
It really is! Wendover sits among some of the most beautiful countryside in England - and is home to a little bit of captivating history too :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
Interesting to hear! I can't imagine Wendover is the kind of place where they'd have the biggest fireworks display on NYE, but perhaps for the turn of the millennium it would have been a bigger party :) Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video!
Oh gosh, Peter, where are you? I'm a Buckinghamshire "old girl" now in Australia. Buckinghamshire is truly beautiful in places. My sister is in Chinnor.
Ha ha ha pas de problème - le Clock Tower pareil beaucoup comme une petite église à moi aussi :) Merci pour regarder - j'espère que vous avez aimé le vidéo!
