  • Decided to go a different route back to VA. This time I didn't take any of the tunnels. Took the Francis Scott Key Bridge over the water instead of under.
The Francis Scott Key Bridge, also known originally as the Outer Harbor Crossing (until renamed for FSK in 1977) or simply as the Key Bridge or Beltway Bridge, is a steel arch-shaped continuous through truss bridge spanning the lower Patapsco River and outer Baltimore Harbor / Port in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. The main span of 1,200 feet (366 m) is the third longest span of any continuous truss in the world.[2] It is also the longest bridge in the Baltimore metropolitan area.

Looks here like it was very well built and sturdy. Can't believe it fell so quickly like it did with a Domino effect

Sadly, nothing in America is well built anymore

WOW! That was insane. Amazing video of the entire accident. This could be an archive video now. I wonder if they will build a tunnel to replace it.

Hard to say they might want to build a tunnel or if they do a bridge next time put concrete barriers in from of the bridge supports. Thank you for watching.

47 years bridge. Still surprising how fast it all fell. Just the thought of driving on a bridge and something like this happens is scary. Imagine, you pass on the bridge like you do everyday...and then, this.

Who would have thought that the bridge is now gone. Thank you for watching.

Was the integrity of the bridge compromised with" repairs"? How did the whole thing fall so easily?? And who was the captain of the ship? Who owns it? Was there an auto steering system with wifi capabilities? Was there a potential for this ship to be hacked and remotely controlled during those critical moments before the impact? These questions would take time to answer. Surely it's too early to know what happened..
    This concerns us all.

Hard to say if the ship was hack into, But there are those out there that think it wasn't an accident.Thank you for watching.

I've never had a problem with bridges in general, but this one was different. Probably didn't help that my mom was afraid of it and told me how steep, high and scary it was. Then one day as I was traversing that part of town, blissfully unaware, it appeared towering on the horizon like a huge skeleton of some Godzilla sized monster straddling the river. I was thinking "Oh No! It's the Key Bridge, the one my mom warned me about...." I wished at that moment I could turn back around, but it was too late to do so. I clenched the wheel and hunkered down in my seat and proceeded on, looking ahead (it was pouring rain) and glancing up at the huge iron cage-like structure around me as I drove the main span. I don't recall the return trip, so it mustn't have been so bad. Luckily I got to drive it one last time a couple of years ago with my mom riding with me. As the bridge appeared on the horizon I said "Look, mom, it's the Key Bridge." To which she replied "Oh no, why'd you have to go this way!?!"
BTW, the Bay Bridge never bothered me, perhaps because someone else was always driving....

If the bridge had been built by the Chinese, the incident would have been filmed dramatically, emphasizing the poor quality of Chinese construction. However, since it is an American bridge, there has been less public discussion, and it will be said that a natural cause is behind its collapse.”
