In Halo Reach you end up with Brutes that are easy to headhunt with weapons like the DMR, pistol, Needle Rifle and Sniper (i.e. all of the game's mid to long range powerhouses), and also generally prefer to engage the player at mid-range. imo Reach Brutes should have been more proactive in engaging the player at close range, always threatening melee, and in groups of 2-3. This would allow them to work around their headshot vulnerability. By engaging the player at mid-range the way they do, they basically just present themselves as a free shooting gallery in most encounters. The only Brute encounter in Reach that I'd say is remotely challenging, even on Legendary, is the fight right at the end before you hand Cortana over to Keyes. Halo 3 Brutes basically fight the same way, but it takes many more shots to "break" their armor (excluding the Plasma Pistol charge shot obviously) than it does to remove a Reach (or Halo 2) Brute's helmet, so usually they end up being more effective at fighting the player.
Playing against brutes in Halo 2 was awesome on Heroic/legendary. You'd only really encounter brutes in tight spaces and when one went berserk all hell would break lose. In Halo 2, brutes were a force to be reckoned with, especially if you couldn't find a precision weapon. Brute Chieftain with a hammer...I am not one for t-bagging. In fact, I have actually unloaded half a magazine into a teammate for t-bagging an enemy. But the brute Chieftain has got to be one of the few enemies that actually provokes me to t-bag. Why? Cause you first have to go through the horror of seeing a behemoth running at you like a gorilla with a hammer that gives Thor's a run for its. Then, you have to hope you can shoot him enough to bring his power armor down. Then you have to rush to get a weapon out that can kill him now, all before he smacks you in the face with a hammer. The Brute Chieftain, if Bungie wanted to focus on giving us an adrenalin rush from the Brutes, job well done with that guy.
And, even if you brought something like a shotgun, it wouldn't even help. He would be supported by an army of long range brutes, and, it takes several shotgun shells to down the Douche. They did the same with the Grunts, giving them unique armor types based on their role. I thought that was really cool.

1:32 Damage sponges my foot. At least they didn't play like elites, where you had to muscle through their shields to headshot them. A 9 ft tall, 1,500 pound beast does NOT need shields. Halo 2 brutes were superior in every way except for design. You had the _option_ to dispose of them quickly with headshots, and they were actually brutish. They would toss you (and your marines) 10 feet in the other direction if you got too close.
Dude, Brutes do need shields, Elites are far easier for you to kill with the Plasma Pistol overcharge and so so Brutes in Halo 3. In Halo 2, Brutes don't have shiels but they have helmet, this is because there head is the only spot that you can damage with (exept for explosive wepon, Shotgun, etc on Legendary
Halo 2 Brutes had the stronger challenge aspect. But players playing from a lower level of difficulty were shocked to find enemies that didn't go down after getting sprayed with bullets or plasma.
what's ironic is that the brutes in Halo 3 are push overs.. Back in the day I never noticed that the brutes blood is green in this video and they never ended up adding the red armored brutes as shown in this video as well.

I agree
Yes
Halo 3 odst brutes would have been fine if they had a immunity to plasma overcharge shot and if they didn't have that bright energy sheild Glow and just stuck with the Halo 3 sparks
i remember watching this non stop on xboxlive getting hype for halo 3
I love these vidocs and this game, which is still fucking amazing. I can play the campaign any day of the week, and the multiplayer is still the best in the series. The gunplay is so tight and fun.
I will love to play as a brute in the future
Man I miss Bungie 😥
Who else was hyped for this when this video came out , i think this video was what got me to get a xbox 360.
For anyone wondering, "et tu brute?" is french for "and you brute?"
Edit: turns out it’s Latin, but it still means the same thing
This is one of my favorite ViDocs!
too bad some of these didn't go into the game.
I watched this so many times, I know every line.
i remember this video and its just nice they made the brutes easier to fight
I remember this being on the videos tab of the Xbox 360 and I would always watch it as a kid because I didn'y have live and it was the only thing to do
Never remove these.
Jesus fucking christ, that Brute ramming the marine into the wreckage was insane. Why didn't they have any of these unique traits in the game?
Probably too much on the engine or matbe too violent for ESRB and Microsoft. Either way, I'm sure we'll see these again once MCC comes to PC through mods
My god the nostalgia
What these men created was pure masterpiece and will likely never be replicated I am proud to be apart of that gaming history !
Come back to us, Bungie. We can forget Destiny as a whole if you will just come back. If you could create a game that captured even HALF of the magic from Halo 3, it would be amazing.
Please, Bungie. Or release Halo 3 for PC.
Halo Online.
There: Halo 3 on PC
+The Four Horsemen
Actually, they do. The modders have held onto it, and since Halo Online doesn't use dedicated servers, people will forever be able to play it together - all they have to do is share it for download.
It was weird seeing the halo 2 view model for the smg punching a halo 3 brute in a halo 3 environment
no matter how old halo 2 or 3 i still play it
man... so many things have changed since the campaign beta, the turrets, the fact that brutes could of used swords, the hammer...etc..
the brutes in Halo 2 were beast. Almost on hunter level. I even felt at times I'd rather fight hunters cause they were so beast. I like how the brute look visually in Halo 2 the best to. They look more beastly
Who else comes back to watch halo vidocs? I really like rewatching the halo 2 anniversary vidoc/movie.
5:21 Jiralhanae wielding an energy sword? thats new
Imagine being the most powerful person in the world, get assassinated by your friends, and your last words are used for a bunch of nerds’ demo to show off their cool aliens
*and so do Brutes
Halo 2 Brutes had the stronger challenge aspect. But players playing from a lower level of difficulty were shocked to find enemies that didn't go down after getting sprayed with bullets or plasma.
Poly_G I agree, OP. They felt more Brutish in 2. They felt too easy in 3.
Nah, I always melee them
Haha Isaac Hannaford, years ago when I watched this I never knew who he was, and now I adore his work
Halo 3 on 360... RIP!
I wish reach had harder brutes like in ODST
Lol, the brute chieftains have the halo 2 tartatrus hammer
Et tu Bruté? "You too Brutus?"
NoizyBoy201 "And you Brutus?" Et is 'and'.
@@sEaNoYeAh both are acceptable
This video got me so fired up for halo 3.
Same here and i was watching this before Bungie re uploaded it then they uploaded it and then i re watched it because it was epic!
what's ironic is that the brutes in Halo 3 are push overs..
Back in the day I never noticed that the brutes blood is green in this video and they never ended up adding the red armored brutes as shown in this video as well.
