You and me both. Some of the most fun I ever had gaming from 2008-2012. The glory days were before Microsoft shut down original Xbox Live servers in 2010.
The way Bungie tested their games was remarkable. That's one thing you know damn well 343i _doesn't_ do with theirs. Bungie's User Interface design was always really good too, and that's something 343 just can't manage to pull off with the same proficiency. Years later and it's actually gone backwards?
Oh Bungie, how the mighty have fallen. This game was a integral part of my teenage years, i spent many hours with friends and had plenty of good times with this game. I live in the UK and met some of my best friends who happen to live in america on this, even travelled to visit them and now i go to america yearly. I watched this video everyday religiously in the weeks leading up to the release. Thanks for the good times.
The worst part of all, is that when you compare the Bungie from this video with the present Bungie, they're two completely different companies, one making good games that had no need for expansions to keep being relevant and had a community full of life, and other that made a game that needed expansions in order to keep the game relevant and that its community its begining to hate how the company doesn't do anything to repel hackers from the game.
4:29 they talk about bringing back the assault rifle and not changing its design because it was halo canon and there was no reason to change it. 343 industries should take note to that considering they changed way too many things appearance for no reason and no story reason either.
Yeah, idk what it is about the Covenant weapons in the 343 games; they sound like toy laser guns now. I miss how they used to sound in the Bungie-era games.
Sometimes I wish I could just walk up to all of these guys and everyone involved in making Halo 3 and say "You not only stepped up to the plate, but you beat it into the ground, picked up the remnants and threw them way off where no one else has been able to find." If developers these days cared about franchises like this team did, gaming WOULD be as great as it was back then.
Everything in this game was geared around fun. The 30 seconds of fun and how you can talk and share that fun so others can see it for themselves. then re live it all over again. No cosmetics, no battlepass, no overpriced store. How to give to the player instead of taking from them.
Their design philosophies around this game were truly sublime. There was SO much thought put into how to give the player the best experience possible. Incredible game.
I wonder if they knew they were making greatness. Experiencing Halo 2 and Halo 3 in the prime was an unforgettable experience. Nothing has come close to replicating what Halo 2 and Halo 3 created. If you were there, then you know.
The Halo 3 beta Spartan armor looked so cool. The visor was shinier and the armor was metallic and gritty. I still like the final product, but I like the beta look a little better.
This game started the concept of let's plays and youtube gameplay influencers. That concept of saving films and rewatching and the experience you get from that was so novel at the time and Halo 3 really paved the way for what we see today
@Master Chief Why do you need an Anniversary edition? Just play the game, it still works! All these anniversary editions all loom like plastic anyway, and the art style is always fucked with. It wouldn't be Halo 3. Nothing 343 makes is Halo.
@Master Chief Wow, 10 months ago. Thats almost half your lifetime probably... Did you just learn the word nostalgia and you want to show it off? There is no nostalgia about this.
People like to forget that a ton of these people you see here are STILL at Bungie STILL working on games. A lot of them are working on stuff we haven't seen yet, which is the most exciting part for me.
The moment @ 5:59 sold me that Halo 3 was going to be better than Halo 2. That excitement of playing a multiplayer game with your friends and nailing a last second snipe or grenade stick in a 4 v 4 or 8 v 8 matchmade game was still there, but everything was turned up just a notch in Halo 3.
You guys and gals criticized your own work, you lost sleep, doubted yourselves. But in the end you not only set a precedent for FPS shooters, but you took yourselves to the highest mantel of gaming, possibly ever. No game IMO has ever come close to the Campaign/Multiplayer experience Halo 3 provided. It WAS fun the 1000th time I played High Ground, Narrows and Ragnarok. You created the greatest game of all time. And for that you have our thanks.
I played hundreds of hours of Halo as a kid and have no regrets of sitting inside all summer long ignoring the outside world because, Xbox Live had me hooked and gave me life long memories
Watching this is so hard. It makes me reminisce about all the good times I had on Halo 3 with my friends. The times we spent playing all night and the times we had huge parties join big team battle. It makes me sad and then I wish I could reverse time and relive those memories. :(
You guys did excellent on this game. It is still my favorite and I wish so desperately that I could play competitively online again. I miss the simplicity. No flinch from getting shot at, no bloom, no sprint, no armor abilities, just guns, grenades and melee. It was just who was better, not who had a shiny toy in their pocket.
I remember having these videos encoded to play on my Sony Ericsson K750i back in the day so I could keep the hype train going everywhere. Especially when taking a shit.
I miss the Vidocs, always something to look forward to and kept you in the hype. Now its just an odd screen shot and getting caught up in a bunch of negative comments
I found that Frank O'Connor, Chad Armstrong (a.k.a Shishka), Vic DeLeon are currently the only staff of 343i that worked as Bungie staff on Halo2 and 3. Also, Betlama (real name: Nathan Walpole) quit 343 some time ago
This reminds me more of halo 2 than halo 3. The summer before halo 3s release was the best summer of my life, playing halo 2 all day every day just waiting for halo 3
Uhh. Have you ever played Halo CE and Halo 2? Melee was 3 hits in CE, 4 in Halo 2 pre-patch, then they buffed it to 3. It wasn't 2 hit until Halo 3. I can literally load up Halo CE right now, and punch someone to death to prove it to myself. Sounds to me like you can't. Also, Grenades were actually more overpowered in Halo CE than they were in Reach, despite the movement speed/jump height. But in Reach they actually have Aim Assist (never had in others), a and wider blast radius than 2 or 3.
I'm wondering if Bungie on there free time do they play any of there own Halo games online in 2020... If so wondering if they are playing any of the 343 games too
I really do miss being able to skim through a person's fileshare in a matter of seconds like one could in Halo 3. Reach, I believe it blocks the ability to view fileshare in matchmaking lobbies in many cases.
Once it shown off at E3 they'll start releasing them. I bet once this is released and is no longer covered in secrecy they'll be more open and release more info when it's time for Halo 5/6 in you get what I mean.
I mentioned branding because of other people in the comments saying that they didn't like Halo anymore naming the only reason as; it wasn't made by Bungie. I thought I might as well bring it up with you to see if you shared that idea.
They might start after E3 because they said they are revealing more information at E3, such as specialisations, so it would seem right, maybe? I hope anyway :)
Halo 3 will always be the final halo for me. As I have gotten older I have gone further and further away from gaming... and that kick ass music at the start is such a good send off track.
I never said I was a "Big Fan" I enjoy Halo, and would like to see more from Bungie, but, I would also like to give 343 a shot, unlike some people who shot it down because it wasn't by Bungie(refer to comments). I am also a Halo fan, but, not as die hard as you. Though, I admire you're loyalty to Bungie. I love Halo just as much as everyone here, but, from your comments(some not in this thread), you seem more of a Bungie fan.
I feel like when they were developing this game. They had a really great idea for what direction they wanted the Halo series to go in. And that this was a really great point in time for the company. Even though Halo hasn't quite been the same ever since then. I really feel like the series has great potential to go into a better direction. If they get back to the roots of what made Halo 2 and Halo 3 so good. I REALLY hope Halo 5 turns out to be a good game. But considering it won't have split screen like many of the older Halo games. Even though there will be multiple characters in the Campaign you will be fighting along side with. (Which is perfect for playing split screen with friends) For some dumb reason the game won't have it. And as a company 343 Industries have only given us lame excuses and not real legitimate "reasons" for why. I still hope that Halo 5 may become a good turning point for the Halo series. Note: They better bring back infection instead of that flood mode that sucked for custom games. And it would be nice if people could watch clips in Theater mode together again. Plus since the original composer for the first Halo games doesn't work for Bungie anymore. Maybe he can come work for 343 Industries, so then his great music can be in the Halo games again.
I feel that the brutes in Halo 2 were fun to fight, the fact that if you don't dispense them fast enough they would start to man handle you was fun. They were like buff rejects who were only getting face time because the elites were being down graded.
I rewatch this every few years just to bask in the glory of what we never knew was truly the golden age of gaming !
The golden era of Halo. I'm grateful to have experienced it.

Ok boomer.
You’re an OG
I don't even think these thoughts crossed 343's mind. Bungie was in a class of their own

Its crazy how I still love watching this ViDocs even though we're 3 games past this. I miss the days of Halo 2 and 3 :(
Wow your comment is 7 years old and it’s still relevant

I miss halo 2 and halo 3 more than anything :(
CheezistChrist luckily both will be backwards compatible for Xbox one, later this year.
CheezistChrist than go play halo 3 I still play
Yeah I’m still playing h3 on MCC and there’s plenty of others still playing too
I miss Reach even more
halo 3 art style, to me, is old but it still has that realistic look to it

Vincent Canovas the new beam rifle looks autistic and the sounds ugh.... don't get me even started with that
Yeah, idk what it is about the Covenant weapons in the 343 games; they sound like toy laser guns now. I miss how they used to sound in the Bungie-era games.
This is honestly the reason I didn't pick up Halo 5
Utterly overhauled the designed language, to a lesser extent in Halo 4 too
It was the best gaming experience I've ever had
Absolutely
💯 facts

That early view of The Pit is fascinating - character models so much like Halo 2.
this video makes me sad and depressed. i wish i could go back in time and live the halo 2 and 3 moments again as a kid.
This is when Halo used to be king. Thanks for the memories Bungie
Halo 3 was the pinnacle of multiplayer gaming. It will never be topped.
This video inspired me to become a game designer.
good for you man.
Enjoy the crunch.
The hype for Halo 3 before it came out was the best hype I had ever experienced in my life! And it definitely paid off!

Rest in peace, Halo 3! Thanks for endless memories on 360.

Anyone know where I can buy that "I can kick your ass at Halo 2" shirt?
Anyone else notice how the bubble shield was rolling down the hill with the guy? Lol
yeah, it was a sphere and not static, thankfully it changed
Brian Howard Anyone watching the video noticed
Yeah I thought that was really interesting, but I suppose that grants too much of an advantage to the defender.
