Hello. Thanks for the video. I have a cuestion about how to print white ink into clear water slide paper. I'm working in one of my car and is black in color
Hey I've tried it out with a friend but we hae a problem I was hoping you could shine some light on. We printed out some bright blue decals with a laserjet but they turned out see-through on a black surface. What can we do to make them "solid" so the surface they are applied on does not shine through?
I noticed that on the scaled down images, your line thickness didn't decrease. Make sure you check your scale settings to include line thickness. If you don't, outlines will fill in details as you decrease image size. I've used Illustrator for over 20 years. Otherwise, good work!
Not sure if you will get this seeing as this video is a year old, but I was wondering what decal paper you are using? I am having a hard time finding one that works good. My ink seems to bead on top of the paper and it is super frustrating. My printer is amazing in every other way and if I print the image on regular paper it looks great. Can you help?
hi ive a similar printer, brand new i printed on paper to pratice was fine but than on waterslide it printed but its stripy light and dark its so odd! i dont want to waste anymore, i set it to glossy
When I had an Epson printer I noticed that when I set to "Transparency" it tended to smear less if at all. Sometimes setting to that mode will reverse the image, so you may have to compensate for that.
Hi there. Do you know of any way to print off Gold Metallic on decal paper and have it work on a black background? I have tried 2 different ways and it's failed.. Thanks
Hi, is hydrographic film the same as water transfer paper? Of course i would peel off the film layer off the water transfer paper. But it is the same yes?
I usually do a test print on paper with 5 or more different sizes to figure out what my final decal size is going to be. Its a trial and error process.
If you can find one, my dad buys them for parts and keeps his going. White ink is also costly, but an inkjet only works for light colored cars. At least my experience
any pointers on sizing my images to be 1:64th scale on 8.5x5.5 testors water slide decal paper. i have been at it for days now and im about to give up. think i got my original group of images to 654px x500px every time i print things are different sizes or different places and im not changing any of my print settings using a epson xp640
Ya using a program like photoshop they wont scale down nicely at all.. When you use a program like adobe illustrator that uses VECTOR art, they will scale down and not be distorted. There is probably free software like gimp where you can save as a vector file to print. You'll have to google.. I just use illustrator.
You can buy a transparent version of the paper if you won’t want the white background on your decal. But keep in mind that printers don’t paint white so sometimes the white backing is useful. I always have both on hand.
@@DiecastResurrection im using inkjet printer. i want some white colour on decal .. so thats mean i should use white paper? probaly i want make some gundam decals
Grabbed an Epson Stylus Pro 3880 for $10 at Goodwill ($1,300 MSRP). :) It's a 17" (A2) pigment inkjet printer where most others from Canon and even the lower-end Epsons are dye inkjet printers. Do you know if dye/pigment makes a difference here? They both print to treated surfaces like photo receptive paper. If anything I'd expect the pigment to be less water-soluable than dye, though they are both in solvent solutions. It also has an alternste rear feed that's totally flat so it can even print on posterboard or photo-receptive metal plates.
You could measure the car with a caliper and if your decal need to be 0.734'' x 0.321'' You could make the image that exact size if you wanted. I might make another decal video here for tomorrow.
This just looks awesome dude, thank you for this tips!!! Do you print straight from Illustrator or you save the file with settings, can you share what settings for res and dpi please?
I have this printer, and I hate it. The touchpad button system is outdated and the 6 ink cartridges go quickly! The Epson 1440 was a far better printer. You forgot to mention that the paper has to be placed face down! I’ve ruined a LOT of photo paper forgetting to do this. I do NOT recommend this printer.
Hi I'm using a Inkjet Epson but I can't print decals perfect. I try more than 5 kind of inkjet paper. I try every kind of type of paper config in my printer, in my case there's only 6 type of paper, "normal and another 5 photo paper type". I think maybe the problem is in the printer. I need to print a 2mm decal but my result is only an amount of ink instead the image. 🤔 If you have some tips I appreciate 😉 Good video and Goos explanation.

Hi everyone, can I get some help? :/ I am having massive printing issues. My printer leaves scratch marks all the time and sometimes the print is totally unusable. My printer back feed uses wheels that make contact with the ink on the paper and leave marks, and my front feed keeps bumping into curved or elevated surfaces on the paper, scratching the ink. Does anyone know how this can be solved? Many thanks in advance :)
What paper setting do you use? I use the setting for glossy photo paper. If you use normal white paper settings and try use decal paper which is thicker you'll get streaks.
@@DiecastResurrection Thanks for the reply! I used premium glossy photo paper. I tried glossy photo paper, which gives slightly better results, but still getting some scratches :/

Excellent stuff. You are doing some truly inspirational work with your models and providing this old spanner twirler with some much needed information. Thanks. And keep your humor alive!
Epson is a good printer. A lot of them can use external ink which is cheaper. I use setting at regular paper at best quality to print my waterslide (either clear or white paper). Clear coat will depend on what you are going to use it on. If the car has enamel paint, then you need to cover the waterslide with enamel clear. With spectraflame I use polyurethane fast drying clear gloss by Minwax. I do one light coat and one semi heavy coat. The more you use the thicker the waterslide and the harder to cover it when trying to erase the border. Yoiu have to find the sweet spot. If you don't use enough clear coat the ink will get damaged when applying.

I have just started to make my own for some of my RC planes and they have come out ok. Try not to put too much clear on them though as it can crack slightly when dried. I have only tried it on black ink which was large iron crosses. Not tried it small scale as yet but i do have some old diecast cars that are stripped ready for paint. I only paid £6 for 20 A4 sheets which is silly cheap money. Great channel, keep up the good work :)
I think its going to be good, for the little cars I had to find extreme resolution, I look forward to playing I wonder if there is a clear version of flexi seal or something that doesn't harden up so much.
Ink jets print best, but the HP's, if I didn't run it often enough, the head would clog or dry up, and the printer would not print. They were cheaper to replace than repair at 150 dollars ten years ago. Maybe they fixed that issue. They would print photo quality. Happy video
