I'm not sure where Springerville is but I'm sure if you checkout some local dive shops you'll get some good info and the opportunity to enroll in a variety of scuba classes. If you live in AZ, I highly recommend checking out Inland Water Divers in Goodyear. They've got a great staff and offer everything from your basic open water certification to technical diving specialties. Good Luck!
