WHO IS BUNCHARTED?
We're Michelle and Alex, an American expat couple living abroad in the Netherlands. 🇳🇱
In 2020, we quit our jobs to travel the world, and... well, that didn't happen. So in 2022, we decided to make an even BIGGER change: to pack up our lives (and our cats 🐈) and move from Austin, Texas, in the United States, to the Netherlands. Subscribe for new videos like this every week!
If you're an American exploring a move to the Netherlands, check out our 15-page moving guide. It includes all of the stuff we learned along the way and links and contact info for everything you'll need from immigration to buying furniture when you arrive.

good music on the shopping montage 🙂 reading the news in dutch seems like a good way to practise. The most usefull exercise a french prof gave me was to read french computer magazines for a year (was studying IT) in preparation of the vocal exam. Car vs train is always a bit of a dilemma for me. I like driving but also really enjoy reading on the train. sorry for the incoherent command, just emptying my brain :-)
May I ask what camera gear do you use for your youtube videos? Love watching all of your stuff.
It is wonderful that I see my country with different eyes because of your enthusiasm. thanks for that!
Can't wait to watch this. We are planning to move there from Canada in a couple years. Love the content you two put out. My wife and I always make a point to watch as it always brings a smile to our faces 😊.
thank you so much! 😊
Why would you do that 😅.I would love to do it the other way around and move to Canada! I totally fell in love after a road trip a couple of years ago.
@@maartenkos98 I guess everyone needs a change of scenery sometimes🤷🏼. Myself, personally I have an attachment to the Netherlands as my mother is Dutch, I visited family there last year and fell in love. Both countries have thier faults but for me it's the lifestyle and culture. I'm very close to gaining dutch citizenship, so for my wife and I it's a chance to start a different chapter in our lives. You are right though Canada is a beautiful country. To bad it's run by a kangaroo court. 😂
@@michaela5261 For sure I'm not complaining. I live in quite a small town (40K) and really enjoy life here. And in Canada I toured the west side from Vancouver to Calgary and probably only seen the better things Canada has to offer. Still I wish you all the happiness and a joyfull life here!
@@maartenkos98 Yes! The west coast is beautiful. 😎😊
Hahaha thanks for the cameo!!
as someone who doesnt comment that often i must say that me and my girlfriend always love to judge your "goede(n) morgen" and have noticed that it has been becoming alot better over time and as someone who loves people who come here and actually try to become dutch its an amazing journey to follow along with
also i LOVE the kitty he/she looks so relaxed and happy although seems abit lazy but still cute =)
Nice - you guys are really making progress. Plus your video vlogs are becoming more and more interesting as you move away from the US vs NL comparisons and immerse yourselves more and more into Dutch culture. CONGRATS on passing your A2s - hieperdepiep! 🥳
The Dutch people are very friendly, and most speak English. I was in the Netherlands for 10 days and enjoyed it very much.
Well I'm fairly sure the IND will renew your visa's and rightfully so cause you have been a geat addition to the Netherlands so far.
Oeps !!!!
Moet poort zijn!!!!😅
I guess we're lucky Sashimi eventually decided to move or we'd have a video of Alex editing a video for a week, though I wouldn't be complaining because I love cats.
a 20 minute vlog of sashimi sitting on my lap 😂
Oehh I love the a....oh wait....Oehhh ik vind het stuk kunst op jullie muur met de zwarte poes echt te gek! 😃
Bedankt weer guys. 😊🌷
@@Blackadder75 It's a good lesson.
Learn Dutch at your own pace; de Nederlandse taal heeft veel Engelse woorden. You are much more busy than I thought. Leuk filmpje :)
I enjoy your content. My wife and I are living in Italy (from the United States) and we adopted an Italian cat. The cats name is Gelato. We are considering moving to the NL in the future. Keep up the good work.
the cat's name is Gelato hahaha that's the best cat name ever
In Dutch the cat's name would be "ijsje"
But you guys are doing an fantasic job.
I really like your video's. Keep up the good work. Btw nice cliffhanger...😁
Thank you for another great video, I always enjoy them! -and yes, the cat makes the rules, I understand-
Should we start a campaign to keep you here? 😁
“Be Kervel” should be written on one of your t-shirts in a food video
Its a great counrty!
That smoothie. When you threw in banana and raspberries (I think). I make ice with these two. Peel and slice bananas, say 200 grams net, and store in the freezer. Say, 24 hours. In the meantime source aromatic raspberries. Between 100 grams and 150 grams will do.
To make the ice cream - no cream involved but it will be creamy - you need a strong blender. I use a powerful Japanese "staafmixer" (rod blender) on a blender bowl. Watch out running these devices for too long at top speed. They may overheat and potentially you damage them.
The slices of the bananas will have stuck (frozen) together, but with some force on a chef's knife, you can cut them into smaller parts. The cuts made before, still wil help in the blending process.
Now cut these up in the blender and the result should be, if your freezer's cold enough, a pretty dry grainy mixture. Now add the (refrigerated) raspberries and run the blender until you have a homogenous blend.
Serve. Enjoy. Pure fruit. No added sugars. No added anything.
You could try other fruit with the banana-base. Blueberries - add little taste, but great colour. Blackberries - often too sour. Mango - works well. Etc.
One cultivar of raspberries that has a good aroma, is the Sweet Eve variety. Other non-descript varieties are too bland, sour. But you may have a wild forest raspberry in your garden and know that it can be even better.
The banana can be overripe, but will be fine when the green on its peel has disappeared.
You did visit Maastricht but the rest of limburg you don't know i guess.
Try to visit the places growing the white asparagus (peel en Maas) (earning season ends the 25th of June), the growing of leek (or prei) also peel en Maas.
The Limburgse vlaai which is now a original product.
Roermond with the largest outlet centre of Europe.
Overloon with the War-Museum.
Margraten with the large USA soldiers cemetery.
and so on.
Korean series I have found enjoyable are Rookie Historian, Vincenzo, Fiery Priest, Mr Queen, Rooftop Prince and so many more. K-dramas are awesome!
we loved vincenzo!
@@buncharted I've watched this one twice!
And you should definitely watch Mr. Queen! It's so hilarious and it gets quite exciting towards the end.
I've been in America now tig jaren and folks back home are always so surprised that my Dutch (as well as Vlaams) is the same as when I left. Come to find out that many folks visit their family who will only speak English/English-American as if they forgot how to talk to Dutch, not me.
Seriously, watch Midnight Diner. There are two runs of the tv show. One with two seasons and one with three. Samurai gourmet is also great and wholesome.
It’s so addictive and wholesome.
Edit: when I needed to travel to work by train for 1.5 hours I worked on the train. So it’s great! You can get things done!
The yellow NS OV chip card, is only for inhabitants of the Netherlands, these can hold special benefits, tourists eed the blue ones.
Wat deed je in je tas bij 4:15... 😂 i love your hidden humor 😊
😂😂😂
I was wondering too... 🤣🤣
😊😊
I never would have pegged you (either one) as car buffs. Interesting paint job on that thing. I'd be afraid of scratches and dents. Also, liked the awkward farewell at he end. Things can be so routine but you can still fall out of it once every blue cheesewheel.
It's wrapped in vinyl, not paint
Ok Ok Ok, but how will you guys experience de Oranje gekte?? The European Championship 2024 in Germany: the wait for one of the world's biggest football tournaments is finally over. Do you like to watch soccer games (in orange)?
Are you going to wantijpop?
Ps I always sat on the lion of the stadhuis. Back in the ‘80 🙊😂i dacht dat i was so cool 😊
If you want to practice with us (dutch couple) we went few days after you guys to giethoorn
You sit in front of the couch just like me😂😂
what was that JAR JAR BINKS?! 😂
😂😂😂
Love your video"s so mutch. Can't wait for the next .👍
Nice video, with a lot of quality content ( 😺 ) ... I hope your visit to IND went well.. I'd be very sad if you had to leave for some stupid reason.
Den Haag Vla! Never had it!
😂😂😂
Smaakt naar Haagse Hopjes, denk ik
You are a really lovely couple. Hope to run in to you some day.
Ouch, it's one of those cliffhanger episodes ;o).
haha i mean, it’s a cliffhanger for us too!
@@buncharted In that case I hope all turns out as in your best expectations.
4:35 Those bloody tourists grrr..😉❤
Friet koning ❤
Very enjoyable as always. I do wonder, just watching your lives through the lens leaves me with a ton of questions :), but is this a typical week? There was no mention of regular work/Job. You do have somewhat regular jobs right? Second.. In the video's you guys are always together, for obvious reasons, But do you ever get the chance to spend some time apart? Just to get some me time and do your own thing. Or is this a 24/7 arrangement.
we spend 24/7 together basically, haha :)
and we normally do freelance work (we've talked about that in our earlier "day in the life" videos) but for the past few months, we've been working on making youtube our "regular job" - so we might start freelancing again in a few months, but hey, maybe not! (or maybe we won't have to do as much of it...)
I was wondering if you are going to Nijmegen between 13 and 19 july? iykyk haha
nee, not this year 😅
0:32 I highly recommend to ditch the raw spinach!! Even vegans agree this is a humongous oxallates overdose, and it is packed with anti nutrients.
4:13 seems like you knew exactly what all to pack...
😂😂😂
Haha, I noticed that easter egg too, had to rewind it to be sure I saw what i thought I saw...
Y'all's obsession with food is off the (bun)chart. lol
Like you feeding dutch cultuur. But how do you experince dutch sociale cultuur. Have you dutch friends? And Howard do you cop . Love the channel
What about car sharing in Dortrecht instead of public transport once in a while? Not all places have train stations.
we don’t have a drivers license in the netherlands, unfortunately. but we’d like to get it eventually for that reason
As usual enjoyed the vid, mostly cause you seem like such a nice couple. *Shrug

Where are you getting pickled red onions or are you pickling them yourself? I love them but I’ve not seen them in the stores here.
jumbo! we love their house brand pickled onions
@@bunchartedooo awesome! Thanks!
Also in the AH. And the Jumbo. The only two.
yes a real hard g
weird for you but so much better
Is that bagel shop in Dordrecht? My fiance lives there and if so, I need to send him to get some bagels!
it’s in den haag!
Do you guys live from your videos or also have a somewhat regular job to pay the bills? If so where do you find the time in the week for your job?
we're freelancers, so when we do freelance work, it's typically in the evenings since we work with a lot of folks in the US (so like 2pm to 10pm or something)
we're working on living off of our videos but we still have a ways to go :)
Eerste klas reizen is erg duur inderdaad 😄
you try recording something in second class 😂
(we only take first class when we’re filming something on the train!)
't Wier bradig. De spiremants bedroorden stendig in het zwiets.
Or do you still need it in English? 't Were brillig and the slithy toves doth gyre and gimble in the wabe. *OF COURSE* a Dutch translation of JABBERWOCKY exists 😊 but I prefer the Afrikaans version (see above).
IMHO the best proof of language mastery is 😁 puns and translating poetry.
When you told us you walked to the IND office.... you walked FROM it :) Hope it worked out for you though
shh, don’t ruin the magic 😂
# justiceforjoost
Haha …. Savory again😂
What kind of work do you guys do? Or do you live from youtube?
we typically do freelance work (it’s been mentioned in some of our other day in the life videos), though right now we’re focused on youtube stuff full time. we want to get youtube to fully pay our bills but we still have quite a ways to go!
@@buncharted you guys are on the right track!
The Korean dramas are dubbed... into Mandarin and Thai... if that would help you 😂
just another language i can’t understand 😂
Easy Dutch channel maybe also helps but that is probably old news to you
As a dutchie with an a grade in English i.d love to teach you the Dutch Language. Teams would do. Hit me up if you are interested, all free of charge ofc.
I am really curious about your actual jobs. Did you share that before? I wonder what sort of chances expats can get in job-world. And also at having a more non-expat-dutch-kind-of-job if that is even a thing.
PS. Nice view out of train, showing absolutely flat polders with nothing 😀.
my residence permit requires that i have my own business in the netherlands, so i do freelance marketing work, but for the past few months, we've been working on youtube stuff full time trying to make it our *real* full time jobs
also, the views are way better than looking out at more cars, roads, and traffic 😂
Eh that was a very dubious plushy that you packed there...
a throwback from the tilburg video :)
If you want to learn Dutch, why not join a sportclub? You'll learn speaking, listening, and culture at once.
Kapper dood?
i got a haircut that week, it's cut like a third of the way into the video!
Dutch donn't explain. We donn't have our freedom to explain. We are we we are. The next time 😅😅😅
And yes, this a Dutch joke, is your hairdresser dead?
Never explain, it's not serious.
I think you think we are idiots. Of course you will stay here. Otherwise why go the the IND and ask Americans on how to learn Dutch? Beware, you need to do the language and inburgering next.
you realize the IND can deny our renewal, right? so no, of course we don’t think you’re idiots. we legitimately have nothing to share until the IND tells us their decision. 😛
@@buncharted Don’t worry about it. If they don’t renew it we’ll start a petition! Would be our loss if you had to leave
You both seem to be eating regularly and enough and yet you are so skinny! How is that possible?
