This is what i've been saying for a long time! If for some reason it's hard to start, either it's operator error, or something is out of tune. My 2004 Harley is carbed and started up at 27F, full choke, first crank with no hesitation.
From what I heard if you have expensive carburetors it is even more easy. this entire anti-carb thing is annoying. Enjoy the bike it has more mpg than most honda civic's, stop complaining about consumption.
@@joelstatosky1817 - HAHAHA expensive carb,,, I have the stock Constant Velocity Harley-brand carb on my bike, and that thing kicks over even below freezing with just a twist or two of the throttle and full choke. It's all about the tuning :-). And yup - ain't no one riding bikes worrying about gas mileage! If you are, then you ain't much fun.
This is exactly what I needed to find. I have an 03 Sporty as my first bike and have been turning it on by switching th fuel on and holding the choke out while turning the bike over, then holding the choke out until it warmed up because I felt like the idle was too low. I realize I was doing it all types of wrong now. I just didn’t have anyone to teach me.
this video gave you my subscription , a lot of videos on youtube show how dudes working so hard to start their Carb machine. I own a harley 2019 no carb it start about the same as yours with less pushing throttling pulling things around. I had in the past a carb motorcycle, yes it was tough time to start it up, it needed a new tuning every season if too cold or just cold or warm or too hot and for each season an idle setting required i wrote them all on a paper and kept it on the motorcycle with the tool kit,. Also if i travel to different far location, i need to tune it again for that region. I HATE CARB MOTORCYCLE .
Not all carbs are created equal. And not all carb tuners are created equal. The carb on this bike is a Keihin CV model. Among other things, it automatically adjusts for ambient air pressure, so the idea of needing to re-jet for altitude changes goes away. Once properly set up, there's no reason it won't give 100k miles of effortless service without ever needing to touch it again.
From one Miller to another my 2000 fxdx dyna starts up first try every morning on the way to work when it’s 35 degrees outside I have to run the choke for about 3 or 4 minutes before I push it in and then It idles perfectly fine. If someone has a hard time starting their carbureted bike it’s in need of a tune I’m sure.
Hi... I just bought a 90 softail with the same petcock and can never remember the off on position.... Back fuel is on? Forward is off? It'll only go half a turn anyway but I can't figure it out... Lol
If it's a Pingel (like mine is), then the on/off/res markings should be engraved on the side. They are hard to see. Worst thing that happens is you get it wrong, and find out the hard way after a few blocks when the engine starts sputtering. If that happens, just turn the valve the other way and you're good to go! 😁
how about kick starting, carburetor bikes!! a new bike shop opened up by me, had a mid 70s old Harley. no electric starter. s u carb. called me to start the bike. no problems
My other bike is a sportster based bobber. S&S carb. Joe Hunt magneto. Kick start only. Nine times out of ten, she lights right off. The other time, she gives me a workout! :)
Harley managed to turn off many of it's customers recently, decent bike, lousy management. As for the Harley start up,,,chokes are history but any carb with a choked start up will start first go if the operator knows what they're doing.
@@TheJeffMiller hello, sorry I'm late for this post , i have a Harley dyna 97 with a pingel petcock too , does it need to be half way open and close or all the way open ? I ask because maybe I'm missing something here i don't know...thanks

Glad it helped.
Your bike came with a Keihin CV carb from the factory. Lots of good tuning information and spare parts at cvperformance.com.
The intro is gold 💪😂💪

Awesome video brother! Thank you
That's an EVO. When properly tuned they start that good every time
Best engine the MoCo ever made!

I have a 97 Fatboy and a 02 Softail custom that are carburetor Harleys and only two throttles and half choke when cold and they start right up
thanks bud

You are not old tell her you are in your prime
why did you spin the fuel valve 180 degrees?
Victor Herrera Guzman It's a Pingle brand petcock. That's how they work.
Jeff Miller thanks man. I don't hace a Harley but i will try it
Jeff Miller besides, did you place it on reserve?
Victor Herrera Guzman No, reserve is halfway between open and closed.
