I personally like the Knockando 12 year old whisky - it is a good value for money here in Europe

This whiskey reminds me of one of the first whiskies I tried as a beginner, which is now months, many many months ago. That was Glenlivet Founders Reserve or something like that. It was a lot 'harsher' than the previous whiskies |I tried and therefor didn't like it. Like this Knockando. The first two , three sips. So I need to try that Glenlivet again as well. I might like other whiskies I tried more, and I do buy bottles of around 30 - 50 euro's (usually when there are discounts involved) nowadays. But it is like comparing Zeppelin to Purple. They're just two different entities who do not try to resemble the other. Sometimes you're in the mood for one, then for the other. There is nothing wrong with this whiskey. Nose is a whee bit acetonic at first but after a few minutes breathing that is gone. There is cookies, citrus, but also a whif of smoke. And also, and I don't mean this in a negative way, a hint of some household detergent. I can't put my finger on which brand or even what kind.
The taste is concentrated in the middle of the mouth but it runs deep. Just not so fast. More spices and a a bit further (and later) down the throat, a slight bitterness. And a bit smokey again.

My bottle had no vintage on it by the way. But it also says it is a Speyside whiskey. I'm confused now. Did I buy a couterfeit whiskey?

      1. Many parameters can be controlled, and 2. They have A LOT of casks to draw from in the hunt for consistency.

The flavour in bitter almonds is of course cyanide, so probably good not to eat too much

One of the worst 12yo Single Malts from Scotland. Tasts so weird and in my opinion only drinkable when the whisky is mixed...

Obviously Herr Horst is biased towards Scotch whisky. Had this bitterness shown up in an Irish or other whiskey, he would have let you know about his dislike for that pungent taste.
