Hi Paul, I have searched high and low for this series for many years now and had given up on it until it randomly appeared in my suggested videos. Me and my mam used to watch this together, I was 10 years old. Any time I hear the theme tune I think of her. She died a few years ago so this is extra special and nostalgic for me. I can't thank you enough for uploading these, I emailed the BBC over 10 years ago asking them for a copy of the series with no joy. I worked in Minorca (for Airtours) the year after this was filmed and knew some of the girls in this. Now some 25 years on I still work in travel/aviation and it was watching this show that peaked my interest into travel,an industry I love. I did 5 winters (ski seasons) and 4 summer seasons and joined the airlines after. Its my opinion I think the late 80s and 90s were the golden age of travel, before the Internet, and LCCs destroyed the package tour industry. Again I thank you, this has made my day.
I just used this today with my level 2 Travel & Tourism students for looking at the range of communication skills used in the job. They loved it although we did have a few sniggers at the uniform styles!!! Gems like this make online teaching a bit easier. Thanks for sharing

But no children or anything like that, not married. But happy! I guess my point is, you can still go travelling, and stay out as late as you want too and bugger off places for the weekend. 22 is no age.

This show made me want to be a holiday rep. I ended up working both Menorca and Lanzarote which were the two resorts featured in the show. Have you got the rest of the series?

People want to organise everything themselves, especially young people. Seems a bit sad to me if that's true, because it means people won't meet other people like they used to. They'll just be with the people they already know and like.
@@ajs41 I’ve been on lots of these holidays as a child and into my 20s and now like you say, I organise it myself. I do still meet people but I no longer feel curtailed and almost restricted to sticking with people from the U.K. and Ireland. I much prefer meeting people with similar interests and people from around the world rather than being lumped together with people from the same flight or hotel. Things change for a reason. This model is pasts its best and it didn’t evolve.
@@daisyjones5559 I worked in the role for four summers 2000-2003 and the winters in between mostly around Spanish resorts with my last season being the Dominican Republic in summer 2003. I would say I saw this kind of package holiday in its twilight era. The low-cost airlines helps change the landscape with almost daily flights to most places meaning you could pick and choose your duration and then online bed-banks like booking.com helped you tailor where you could stay without the constraints of packages put together through contracted accommodation with a tour operator. Package holidays have though seen a resurgence in the last few years with Jet2holidays really bucking the trend for people doing it themselves, in part this is down to some people just not finding the time to look for all the components themselves and also Jet2holidays have a huge and well recognised industry leading customer service reputation. They also employ reps but these tend to be locals or ex-pats who live in the resort and better placed to help you rather than a 21 year old who only wants to sell trips. So the package holiday market is actually thriving, but the way it works is different to back in the day. I will say from a supplier (airline, hotel) point of view it was a bit of a safer bet back then because a tour operator could block book an entire flight, complex/hotel and pay for it up front and then fill it themselves meaning you would see hotels and resorts filled with customers right up until the end of season, even in October in Menorca where the weather would be unpredictable. Now you wander around Menorca in October it's kind of dead, and some resorts and practically closing down because the constant flow of the old system has gone. I'll always be thankful I saw it the way I did back then. I still travel a lot and mostly put it together myself, but this is how we Brits used to holiday and it reminds me of my childhood and my rep-life. Both were great times.

£100 a week. I guess it probably wasn't too bad for the 90s if your accommodation and food was paid for and you could spend your summer in the sun. Pity you were flat out working for it.

Haha did 2 years Intasun, and about 12 with Thomson. Hard work but such a lot of fun! Never looked back and still live overseas 35 years later!
