Wow, I wish this saga would continue again. I liked your videos the most, just my style. I hope you are well.! Thanks for the previous work from the Czech Republic!
Have the same situation. Temp just would not go over 50 degrees. Scheduled to service it tomorrow and looked up on the internet to see and found this. Very nice and comforting to know it was opening to soon ...
Bad thermostats seem to be a common issue on these engines. Mine sits at 80 and sometimes reaches the normal 90 degrees. A sign of a failing thermostat. I’ve bought a new one and will fit it soon. Mpg is low in the meantime
@@Nut_Job. Thanks mate. I’m hoping mine will improve too. Today I went for a drive and it reached 80 from cold within 5 miles. Then took a while to get to 90. Dropped to 80 and climbed back to 90. Only achieved 27mpg in mixed driving which isn’t great really. Hoping that improves
I must admit the fuel economy of this engine in my CLS isn’t very good anyway... I can get over 40mpg on an A-road trip, but I have to really try! I don’t think it’s possible to even see 50mpg in my car unless you’re going somewhere downhill all the way...
@@Nut_Job. I agree. I have the E350 CDI coupe. I think the best I’ve had is 45mpg on a long run. That was cruising at 70. Local urban driving MPG is not its strong point
The electric element allows the computer to heat the wax element to temporarily lower the opening temperature of the thermostat. This allows for a lower coolant temperature, and keeps the coolant from boiling in the cylinder head. Car companies are running the engines so hot for efficiency that there’s no thermal headroom left in the coolant for high power operation. Temporarily lowering the coolant temperature allows them to run hot for efficiency at low load, and cool to handle hi load situations. Did you finally sell the 530 D, or will we see it back with a fresh engine?
Hey, Hubnut - long time between drinks and its great to see you back on TH-cam. My W204 had a similar cold running thermostat. I think the control also has a digital input? Want to see what's happened to the Beemer. Stuart @ Melbourne.
Where you been man? Still got the Beemer? Ah yes Mercedes and thermostats. Did a video meself on the m271 thermostats. Perished seal. Very common. More vids please!
Had the same thing with my BMW N57 thermostat. I would get to around 80 degrees c but no more. Replaced thermostat for €15 and voila it works perfectly now.
I know... £150 was a bit painful, but since I knew it was knackered it needed to be done. The job is a bit of a PITA too, so I didn’t want to do it twice
@@Nut_Job. hi there! im from argentina where this part costs arround 200 dollars(as very cheap), do you know if other car shares only the "sensor part" of the thermostat, i mean without the case, tnks very much! also your video give me tranquility
"Dear Nut Job Nice! Your videos should be seen by more viewers. May I repost your channel without changing anything on the clean platform named Gan Jing World? Thank you!"
Yes, and it was also noticeable on the temp gauge when costing down hills because the weather is so cold right now. As soon as I took the car out with the new thermostat it got up to the correct temperature & stayed there 👍
I have s 350 d L 2018 I noticed when I turn off the engine there is fan noise and I opened the bonnet the top of engine was very hot and the temperature gage on screen was normal do you think it’s normal or should I get checked ?
It’s normal for the radiator fan to ‘overrun’ after turning off the engine. Otherwise coolant sits in the block & could potentially overheat the engine block in the recent minutes after switching off 👍 A gas central heating boiler also does the same thing if you listen closely.
I sold my CLK55 a while back now, but for the most part it was a solid car. It was almost 20 yrs old though, so you have to bear that in mind & inspect a car like that well before you buy one.
@@Nut_Job. Would you know if there was rust or any other reason not to buy i have watched your video over and over and the car seems perfect one question why did you sell such a great car your answer would be appreciated i have a CLK320 Convertible at the moment is your old car worth 12000 in your opinion i value your advice Thanks Paul
Wow, is that £12,000 (GBP)? That’s a lot more than I sold it for… but I’ve noticed used performance car prices have been going up a lot! I don’t remember any rust on that car as it was garaged most of its life & the mileage was pretty low. There was a slow oil leak on one of the rocker cover gaskets which I never managed to sort, but other than that it was pretty good. Only reason I sold it is that I didn’t really drive it often enough & it seemed silly having the money tied up in a car that was rarely driven… so I sold it 👍
Yes your back!
Video title, Merc thermostat... comments section.... where's the beemer? :D
Little advice for the om642 w212.
If you empty completely the coolant extension tank, no coolant will be leaking while removing the thermostat
Looking forward to the BMW. Glad your safe and well.

Thanks! I’ve actually just come back from a holiday in Czech Republic 🇨🇿
I got rid of my bmw got sick of expensive parts and shit egr design glad to to see you back mate

Welcome back.🙏🙏🙏
Am I not the only one then who will keep fixing or washing own car in the coldest days of each month! Welcome back!
Sorry to see you had a problem, but great to see you making video's again.

Very good opening return and interesting video.

Good to see you back. Sad to see no BMW! Surely it's just the spring that has weakened over time! Can't hold the thermostat back any more.
Yeah, that was my first thought too. It didn’t seem particularly weakened, but who knows...
Waiting too long but good to see you keeping well!, onwards and upwards
Great to see you return!
Glad you are back.
Great to see you back....
Thank you dude. Same car, same problem. Needed to see this! I’ll be changing it straight away myself too.
Glad to see you man. Looking forward for some beamer work
Please come back mate!

Glad you are back, I’m looking forward to the BMW engine rebuild.
Nice video!
What kind of sensor is that? I have the same and can't find any information about that.
Thank you!

Good to see your back, still got the 530d?
Absolutely! And soon enough I will pull out the broken engine & rebuild it. I ran out of enthusiasm last year... and then Winter arrived.

Nice to see you back. Looking forward to the Beemer engine rebuild. Dropped back on your channel via RR TDV8 egr delete. How’s the RR?
Well come back! You give up on the 530D?? Engine rebuild?? Looking forward to the rebuild 👍
Where are you? Why are you not posting any more?
I’m still around. Just not feeling like making any more videos right now….
@@Nut_Job. what happened with the 530d ?
We need you back mate hope you’re doing well 🤞
Well thats made my mind up very helpful
Look forward to more videos when the better weather comes in.
Incidentally the first value on the coolant temperature gauge is 40.
Edit: £150? Jesus

Hi, would anyone have a video of bmw f11 rear drive shaft removal to replace abs sensor please ? Thanks .
Did you repair f11?
We wait more videos , if can be possible :)
Still waiting for BMW 😀😀
Did your car lose temperature while idling
Yes, and it was also noticeable on the temp gauge when costing down hills because the weather is so cold right now. As soon as I took the car out with the new thermostat it got up to the correct temperature & stayed there 👍
Did you set fire to the beemer?!..
Come back Nut Job!!!!!
I’m still here… just not doing any videos mate.
@@Nut_Job. Hopefully see some some time soon
Did you claim on the insurance? Break it?
I sold it to a breaker. Should have done it much sooner - got a surprisingly good price really.

Thanks bro really appreciated straight away answer 👍

What happened to the BMW ex police car? Did the bmw reliability lead you to switch to mercedes?
I seem to have had more luck with Mercedes over the years & that 530d was my only BMW....
Possibly the last, but never say never. When it was working properly it drove very very nicely
Well, the problems you had with the bmw and how you fix them are what make the videos interesting for us, so keep it up
Did I just see you on Bargain Hunt lol...
Errr, no?
What happend to this channel?
When’s the L322 coming back ?
Sorry Tom, that’s gone now. I needed the space really 🤷🏻
Whats up with beemer
I scrapped it in the end. It’s not that it couldn’t be rebuilt… rather I just lost interest in it 🤷♂️
