Little Feat is one of underrated group. But this l, 『WAITING FOR COLUMBUS』, is one of the greatest live album. And Lowell George was one of the most talented musician in the world.
The best live band ever. I have seen them in every possible setting from intimate to outdoor festival. I've seen them about a dozen times. Sadly I never got to see Lowell. They never disappoint.
Such a fun band. First reaction I’ve seen of yours and I absolutely loved your synopsis at the start. These guys take such a light hearted, chill approach to writing that I can vibe with. Instant good mood. Funky as hell. These are the kind of songs that make us all realize we’re not so different and can all get along when we’re cutting a rug on the dance floor. Looking forward to the rest of your reactions
You have discovered the most talented American rock and roll band. I hope you feel the same way I did when hearing them for the first time in 1973. They’re no doubt my all time favorite band. Thanks for helping bring them to the forefront
I just wish you could have seen them in concert live, a truly spiritual experience, never have seen such talent on stage at one time,, RIP Lowell George
I got to see them in the early 90s when they were still in top form with Craig Fuller manning Lowell's vocals. They were amazing and I was just a couple rows from the stage. RIP Lowell, Paul and Richie, you're missed dearly.
If you like Little Feat listen to The Bands farewell concert called The Last Waltz. It was a video directed by Martin Scorsese back in the 70's Their guest singer line up will blow you away
Yep I was going to reference the band and the last waltz also. Man a lot they are so many similarities in the style and I think what they both have as much as anything else is the fact they they are so in time with each other and show that a great band is a different level than a group of wildly talented musicians. They all had so many hours of playing for practice, playing for money and playing for fun and getting to know each others timing and styles to the point of perfect predictions of each others improvisations. Those two bands were perfectly timed machines firing on all cylinders and really enjoying every moment of it until they put the instruments down. I think they are both vastly overlooked and under appreciated bands on the big scale. They are both in my top five most impressive bands for many reasons and have been my number one for long periods of time. But I will also admit after that long ass kissing comment my number one rock and roll band of all time is Lynard Skynard. But they all three remind me of each other in many facets and they are all very unique at the same time. ✌🏿
Little Feat ....a great band that a lot of people did not know about. That always amazed me. Very original and unique sound. Glad you are listening and love your reaction
When the news came out that the Stones would be headlining a show at Necarstadin in Stuttgart, in June of 1976, we thought that was going to be THE show of shows. Only after hearing the great pre-bands, concluding with the Stones that evening, was it clear that LITTLE FEAT was the best, and hands down outplayed and did everything better than the Stones…everything! God bless them all and Rest In Peace to the artists who have passed on!
Love Littel Feat...and love seeing new people discover them - enjoy! Brings me so back to college up in Oregon in the early 80s. Always on for the party. We danced the night away.
Sounds like New Orleans to me! I loved Little Feat in high school! I personally think that the beat music was in the 60s, 70s, and the early 80s. Then it got weird! LOL! We love you Brit!
My top 5 Live albums: Kiss Alive (1975) AC/DC If you want blood (1978) Whitesnake Live in the heart of the city (1980) Little Feat WFC Michel Petrucchiani Trio Live at the Blue note.
This track is a great example of what Lowell George wanted to create, a musical "cracked mosaic" where the whole picture is visible but has interesting, almost random "cracks" in the sound and groove.
I am a big, long-time Little Feat fan... you have understood and articulated the essence /effervescence of this group better than anyone else online... Thanks...!!!
After Lowell died, I believe it was Bonnie Raitt who said- I miss Little Feat like I miss being 9 years old. Checking her oil is definitely a sexual reference
Possibly the greatest band I’ve ever heard, and seen. In 1976 they outplayed and outperformed the band they opened for…The Rolling Stones in Stuttgart. Little Feat ruled, Stones drooled!
Thank you for this. The music is eclectic and the lyrics are eccentric, the musicians are top notch. You would do well to continue on to track three, And then four, and so on. Great album start to finish.
Little Feat-basiclly a garage band from LA....broke through when one of their songs was incuded in the movie Easy Rider...Waiting for Columbus was huge in the late 70s
Little Feat was idolized by leads from much bigger bands... from Jimmy Page (Led Zepplin) and Paul McCartney (The Beatles/Wings) to just about everyone in the Doobie Brothers. Their talent and creativity and ability to groove effortlessly was so solid and fun to watch live. Truly one of the most talented band ever.
Everyone who loves LIttle Feat has excellent taste, and that's you, Britt. I missed the original lineup with Lowell George, but saw them a few times when they got back together. Listen to All That You Dream.
It's not just "Time Loves a Hero", it's the way those songs run together on that third side of the double album. Doesn't it go into "Spanish Moon"? The way they just oozed from one song to another on Waiting For Columbus was startling because it was flawless. What Britt was talking about hinged on the overwhelming team effort on percussion. Have you ever heard a bunch of people banging on shit with such a union of purpose? Everything meshes.
I stopped listening to Little Feat (1969-1979) after Lowell George passed in 1979. Lowell George (Lead vocal, songwriter, slide guitar) actually quit the band just before his death as tensions grew within the band over creative differences. They later reformed, but that Lowell George vocal CANNOT be duplicated in whole! Little Feat made 8 records with Lowell George: Little Feat (1971), Sailin Shoes (1972), Dixie Chicken (1973), Feats Don't Fail Me now (1974), The Last Record Album (1975), Time Loves A Hero (1977), Waiting On Columbus (1978), and Down On The Farm (1979) which was finnished up after LG passed. After reforming in 1987 with Craig Fuller (Co-founder of Pure Prarie League), many more records were produced (1987-Present). The band fused broad styles of genres, Rock, Jazz, Country, and Blues into a very distinctive sound and produced some notable playlist jams within those first 8 records. Can't speak for the music post 1979. ....... not familiar with it. Some must-listens from the first 8 records: Time Loves A Hero, New Delhi Freight Train, Fat Man In The Bathtub, Spanish Moon, Dixie Chicken, and Willin. Great reaction, TY
This is considered by many including me to be the greatest live album of all time ! They also had the Power Of Tower horn section on this. A perfect fit. The tune Rocket In My Pocket features them quite nicely.
Waiting for Columbus is the greatest live and double album of all time. They were always appreciated by other bands but if you expose "regular" people to it...they are hooked!!! Thank you for reacting!!
Listening to these guys for half a century. My WFC (Waiting for Columbus) vinyl was played 1000's of times and the tunes still give me goosebumps. The members are some of the nicest people. Real musicians' musicians.
Bonnie Raitt's slide guitar playing was greatly influenced by vocalist/guitarist Lowell George. George played in one of Frank Zappa's early bands, and the drummer there remarked on Lowell's little feet - so that's where the name came from. I think substitute teacher Garvey would probably say Jonita.
The story I heard was that when Lowell was with Zappa he brought "Willin'" to him and Frank wanted nothing to do with it. Lowell said I'll do it with my own band. Frank replied that would be no little feat
@@kenennis6287 I read that Frank, who was anti-drugs, rejected the song because of its drug references. In an interview Frank said about Lowell "There's another guy who shouldn't do drugs." I probably read about Zappa's drummer, Jimmy Carl Black bugging Lowell about his little feet years ago in a guitar magazine article about the band, or a Lowell G. interview - but if you Google "little feat name origin" they tell the same story.
Hey Britt, just subscribed. LF is one of my all-time favorite bands!!! Yeah Lowell writes ingenious lyrics with a lot of colorful inuendos. Lowell is one of the best storytellers IMHO. For this tune I think Lowell was writing a bit about himself with the interpretation of his struggles of self-acceptance.But there's a lot of room for different interpretations. All-in-all this song resonates with many poeple musically, as well as, personally with the story. That's why its such a favorite. You can play LF any time, day or night and it will put a big smile on your face.
Hello there lil Brit 😊 What a lovely warm review. I love The Feat and you just nailed it. A collage of sounds and the music transports you to a cool place. Also if I may say without being too bold… you are just the most beautiful soul ! God bless.
Check your oil with his "dipstick". The duck who is driving is from the cover of Down on the Farm. Lowell George has my favorite voice ever and his slide guitar is so good it is the best. I think they are the most amazing live band for the last 50 years!! They have been my favorite band for 48 years. Go back and listen to thye albums in order....you wil be hooked!
The whole album is pure good energy. If you get newer CD of it. It has bonus stuff. "Check your oil tonight"? Might be a reference too male and female sexual parts just too mention.
The beginning, they are singing coming up to the stage...leading into this song..😊..very diverse, talented band. They stand the test of time. PS. Their artist for album art....phenomenal...Neon Parks.
Saw them live twice in their prime (when they were all alive). Orpheum Theater Boston in the 70's. They really rocked! Ahhhh the days of real effing music. Robert Palmer at Paul's Mall, Muddy Waters at the Paradise, etc. Welcome to Feat Fandom beautiful.
Wrnt to see Little Feat and The Allman Brothers at the Santa Fe Downs in the 90s. Incredible day of music and we all wished Little Feat had played longer, they were. awesome. Needless to say, EVERYONE THERE had a ahem...good time. And i mean everyone. 😊
Also Neon Park, who did the covers for most of their releases, like the band referenced all kinds of stuff (risque too). Christopher Columbus discovered the tomato upon arriving at America, the tomato in a hammock on the WFC cover is waiting to be discovered, hence 'Waiting for Columbus'.
I’m so glad to see you- break down little feat. Neon Park was the artist and one of Lowell’s best friends - they were creating what they called a cartoon consciousness.. but the flipping band is anything but cartoon!!! Crazy!
Yep, that animation style is great and was cutting edge back then, but it was a style inspired by Terry Gilliam’s animation work on Monty Python. Also, yes, this is one of the most fantastic albums.
The Jello house is from the cover of an album called The Last Record Album (a play on the title of a 70's movie titled The Last Picture Show). Most all their album art was done by an artist who went by the name Neon Park.
Long time fan of Lowell George, a little back ground (don't know if you are familiar with) Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention Lowell played guitar for him. Frank knows talent when he sees it, as a matter of fact Steve Via was also in "the Mothers". Long story short before his untimely death Lowell produced, preformed on, co-wrote or other wise supported some of the best music to come out of the 70's. Check out his solo album Thanks I'll Eat it Here his rendition of Ricki Lee Jones 'Easy Money' is something you'll enjoy.
We catch Little Feat in concert twice a year if they are close to the center of the US. Live they are just as amazing as they were in 1977. Find them in concert.
Though not universally recognized back n the 70's, they were often referred to as "Your favorite band's favorite band," and were once proclaimed by no less than Jimmy Page as his favorite American band.
Britt you gotta keep in mind not all music videos are literal interpatations of the song's lyrics. When MTV was at its peak there were people that were music video directors. Record labels would give them crazy big budgets to make videos with. A lot of the times the music video directors vision for the video would have nothing to do with the song. Perfect example of a music video that makes fun of this concept is the video for "Oh , Sherrie" by Steve Perry from his solo album outside of Journey. The video opens with a medieval wedding and Steve dressed in a ridiculous costume. After a few minutes Steve can't take it , takes off the costume and walks off the set & the video actually begins. You should do that song & the official video to go with it & you'll understand what i'm talking about.
Some of the cool artwork is by the artist Neon Park, my favorite artist. There is book of his artwork out there its wild. He was Little Feats album cover artist. My favorite artist and Little Feat is my favorite band. Love from New Hampshire
Lowell George was just about the best thing out of So. Cal. When listening to Little Feat and just how tight that band was, always remember the magic of the 11/16 spark plug socket.
Some women you can be more direct with and just straight out ask if you can check their oil. Some like Juanita trade it for cash, others for a drink or two, some for just asking.
Down on The Farm from the Live From Neon Park double live album is excellent. Seriously funky acoustic slide guitar and a fun song. You should check it out too.
Hi Britt! I'm a new viewer, and I have to say, you "get" Little Feat extremely well. And by that, I mean I agree with you, haha. The soul, the pocket, the richness and brightness of the music just take me away. Those videos were made within the last couple of years by LF fanatics. There are many Easter eggs in them--characters from album covers, etc. If you want to immerse in LF, I strongly suggest you listen to this album first--IMO these live recordings are better than the original album versions. Their records are full or innuendo. "He said hey honey, hey, let me check your oil, alright?" I don't know if you have ever checked oil with a dipstick, but I think you got it anyway. And he's not saying Jonitata the last time, he's singing Chiquita, which means honey or cutie, and a famous banana brand whose spokeswoman was a very sexy banana. "Juanita, my sweet chiquita, what are you up to?" The lead singer and main songwriter--Lowell George--invented that smoky cajun/rock/jazz mix, and yeah, his voice is fantastic. Thanks for having me along. 🙏😊
Find reaction. I don't know why, out of the blue, this made me think of the live version of REO Speedwagon doing Roll With The Changes. I bet that would be a good reaction. But also, one of my favorite Little Feat songs is Willin'. It's not really satire of trucking songs which is a genre I love so much and I wish you would investigate, but it is so catchy and it's got great bars in it. And it will get under your skin for sure.
@@brittreacts Willin' by Little Feat still stands as a recommendation. But in terms of REO Speedwagon, the more that I think about it, you should listen to the audio in the studio cut keep on rolling. It's just brilliant and I promise you it will take you to church. But, on the other hand, they also had a massive hit that I know you would like from earlier on, and this one the studio cut is fantastic but the live version is Iconic. Golden Country. #RIP Gary.
found this on the inter-webs lol. I think explains this song well. Spotcheck Billy's a junkie who's in love with a prostitute - he's in a "squeeze play" on the "cheesy side of town" (i.e. he's in the quarter where the prostitutes and drug dealers ply their trade, and he only has enough cash in his pocket for one or the other.) He'd rather spend his money on his favorite girl, who goes by the name "Juanita" - not only because he loves her, but also because he's concerned that his use of speedballs (a combination of heroin and cocaine) is endangering his life (regular use of speedballs often results in cardiac arrest). "Juanita", however has another client this evening -- literally, an overweight man soaking in the bathtub of her rented-by-the-hour room. One can imagine Billy standing in the hallway, "Juanita" with the door just cracked open, and telling him to go away, come back Monday or Tuesday (presumably the "slow nights" in the trade), she has a high-paying client with a bathing fetish and she doesn't need him hanging around, acting crazy and scaring him off. Since Billy can't get time with his "Juanita" tonight he wants to save his money for Monday or Tuesday -- knowing that otherwise he'll just run out and blow it on speedballs that might just as likely kill him -- he's begging her to throw him a "dime" (a bag of weed) or a "line" of cocaine -- just enough to keep the monkey off his back for the night. For me the killer line is "I hear you moan, I hear you moan, I hear you moan." That's Billy with his ear against the door listening to Juanita servicing her client for the evening. Sexual jealousy, addiction, longing and love .. one of my all-time favorite songs and one of Little Feat's best.. check out the live version on "Waiting for Columbus". No doubt Lowell George was writing from personal experience .. what a talent. R.I.P.
A lot of the album art for Little Feat was done by the artist,Neon Park. I can't say if he did the art in the video, but it seems to use many of his images and done in his style (if that is a thing).
They are one of the all time great jam bands. If you ever get to see them live (I had the pleasure 3 times) it’s almost like watching some musical buddies getting together at one of their houses and just letting the music take them where it goes. And, if you never thought you could get excited about a song that is basically about soup, you MUST next time listen to Rad Gumbo. You will imagine yourself at a Cajun cookout with amazing instrumentation, including the concertina (squeezebox). Warning: You will not sit still!!!
thanks Brit for helping to bring Little Feat to the masses! One of the most under appreciated and overlooked bands in the history of music
U have no clue.
Singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer Lowell George at the top of his game. RIP.

The best live band ever. I have seen them in every possible setting from intimate to outdoor festival. I've seen them about a dozen times. Sadly I never got to see Lowell. They never disappoint.
True dat. Today Aug 17, 2024 The Feat rocked it!
_Waiting For Columbus_ is an addictive live album. Difficult to pigeonhole their style. I don't even try.

Yep, that animation style is great and was cutting edge back then, but it was a style inspired by Terry Gilliam’s animation work on Monty Python. Also, yes, this is one of the most fantastic albums.
Bonnie was a good friend of Lowell Goerge. The singer & guitarist.
The Jello house is from the cover of an album called The Last Record Album (a play on the title of a 70's movie titled The Last Picture Show). Most all their album art was done by an artist who went by the name Neon Park.
Miss you Lowell George. RIP Rock and Roll dr. You are missed and not forgotten.
Check out his solo album
Thanks I'll Eat it Here his rendition of Ricki Lee Jones 'Easy Money' is something you'll enjoy.
One of the best live albums ever made
We catch Little Feat in concert twice a year if they are close to the center of the US. Live they are just as amazing as they were in 1977. Find them in concert.
that is awesome!
Little Feat is my all time favorite band period. Yes, even over Rush. ;)
Moon, waves & sandy beaches
The Benevolent Elephant is bringing the 1970s Back boom bang bang
Saw these guys live at a small club in Eugene, OR back in the mid 80's. Awesome show.
Lowell George was just about the best thing out of So. Cal. When listening to Little Feat and just how tight that band was, always remember the magic of the 11/16 spark plug socket.
Lowell was the king of rock n soul. Check out his solo stuff. Two Trains is probably my favorite. It shows how the band was not the same without him.
It’s not about the video… that came decades later. It’s about the music.
Little Feat is DEFINITELY all pocket 👍🏻
I Do What Telephone Tells Me…One of my favorites…
Love seeing live shows. Usually do not like recordings of live shows. Little Feat's Waiting for Columbus is the rare exception.
and this is live! Little Feat!
Hey Britt, to Quote Lowell, "All I'm looking for is some good clean fun, All I Really want Is Some Hit & Run" Hmmmm?
Some women you can be more direct with and just straight out ask if you can check their oil. Some like Juanita trade it for cash, others for a drink or two, some for just asking.
Great band and Lowell George was a special dude.
Down on The Farm from the Live From Neon Park double live album is excellent. Seriously funky acoustic slide guitar and a fun song. You should check it out too.
My favorite Little Feat song is "Mighty Rad Gumbo"!
Fo sho, the best!!!
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
"Juanita, my sweet chiquita, what are you up to?"
The lead singer and main songwriter--Lowell George--invented that smoky cajun/rock/jazz mix, and yeah, his voice is fantastic.
Thanks for having me along. 🙏😊
Lowell George, the heart and soul of Little Feat. Gone way too soon.
Lowell Geoge was amazing and left us way to soon.
Spot check Billy got down on his hands and knees, he said ‘hey mamma, hey let me check your oil, alright.
This was for sure "my song". Related to the chorus for sure. Another was "Side street swinger" and "Two trains 🚆 running"
I will keep those in mind, thanks!
@@brittreacts in my day, we would say "Groovy".?
Just play the whole album, without stopping once. it's almost like being there...almost.
Is this a New Orleans shuffle? It sure is funky as hell.
I will keep those in mind, thanks!
#RIP Gary.
Nice choice. My friend Peter H produced the animation for this video! (And he enjoyed your reaction)
That is so cool!
PS, thank you so much!
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
found this on the inter-webs lol. I think explains this song well.
Spotcheck Billy's a junkie who's in love with a prostitute - he's in a "squeeze play" on the "cheesy side of town" (i.e. he's in the quarter where the prostitutes and drug dealers ply their trade, and he only has enough cash in his pocket for one or the other.)
He'd rather spend his money on his favorite girl, who goes by the name "Juanita" - not only because he loves her, but also because he's concerned that his use of speedballs (a combination of heroin and cocaine) is endangering his life (regular use of speedballs often results in cardiac arrest).
Love Little Feat! ❤️😍💖
They are great!
Great live double album
