In this video Kenny Rogers was already an experienced concert performer. You can see how comfortable he is walking around the stage while easily moving aside his microphone cord when needed. At the same time he is singing to the audience with passion and confidence. That quiet confidence also extends to the end as he accepts the massive applause from the audience and casually throws the microphone cord over his shoulder. I feel this is Kenny Rogers' most memorable performance of Lady, and it's even better than the studio version.
Kenny Rogers was 42 years old here. I distinctly remember the first time my 12 year old self fell in love with this man. My mom loves him and he was one of her hollywood crushes. I grew up with his music. Such an amazing voice. R.I.P Kenny Rogers❤
Every woman wants someone to sing this song to them and mean it.To feel that powerful love,to receive that powerful love must be the best feeling in the world.
Also, every woman likes to be told they' be loved "Faithfully" (Journey), and been looked at like Tony Leung's character looks at Brigitte Lin's character (Chunking Express movie).
I agree every woman in her life time wants to feel loved and wanted and needed that type of love is very rare in life and if it lasts a life time even better and more blessed. The emotions in this song makes me feel like a young woman newly married I remember that feeling so well.
For those who dont know, Kenny Rogers first started having success as a Pop singer, then got popular as a Country singer. His music jumped back and forth in both genre's. He was a great singer and performer.
Thank you for your review. People often prefer the rendition they’re used to hearing. I love Teddy Pendergast music, too, and they sing this song w different styles. But this one is the gold standard. I always enjoy your professional, heartfelt, thoughtful, reviews
How crazy is it in 1968 Kenny Rogers and the First Edition did a Psychedelic rock tune I just dropped it to see what condition my condition was in!!! Huge hit it was on the radio constantly. Now today he is known as a great country star. What a beginning he had! Sad that he is gone. Harri please check that first edition song from 1968. It was really something!!!!
Kenny, with the sharp cream-white suit, the silver fox hair, and that INCREDIBLE voice of his, is exactly how I picture him... walking around in heaven, singing! Great reaction, thank you!
This performance by Kenny Rogers is beyond belief, and the song itself is genius, and very beautiful. Before he went country, Kenny Rogers had a 60's rock group called "Kenny Rogers and the 1st Edition'. They had some good success with about 7 or 8 big hits. Kenny is a 1st class singer.
The huskiness has a very masculine quality, very appealing when some men sing that way. I've read other comments written about this song by men who wrote that this song described what they felt for the woman they loved but couldn't express in words. It's a wonderful song--melody, lyrics, and Kenny's style.
Kenny is incredible and he has just one of those voices that you can never mistake. You should listen to a duet he did with Dolly Parton called Islands In The Stream, the song was written by the Bee Gees.
Beautiful song sang by one great artist. He did one not long before he passed away, with the group Home Free Children Go Where I Send Thee. You should hear it. His son's teacher mentioned them, and he contacted them about doing the song with him.
You should catch a pre-gray Kenny with The First Edition band doing the improbably named 60s hit "I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in".
Harry...good name. Me grand dads name. We all called him Grandpa Dutch. good man. He liked this song shortly before his sudden passing. Thanks for bringing that memory back Harry. I hope you have a good day today.
There is a Live version of this with Kenny and Lionel Ritchie singing this together. Kenny is performing, calls Lionel up on stage, explains how the song came to be and they perform it together. Looking forward to the day when you discover this, whether you react to it or not.
Like Barry, Kenny has this amazing echo/reverb in his voice. I first noticed it when he was with the First Edition (Somethings Burning), and it came out powerfully one night on the Johnny Carson late nite talk show. He did an acapella version of a song entitled "Sweet Music Man." It blew Johnny and the audience away. It was so stunning and I have never heard anything like it since.
I think many songs from all "genres" cross over all genres. Back in the 70's & 80's no one really talked about a genres, unless there was a genre called GOOD MUSIC! 😉 Back then, most radio stations (where I was anyway) tended to play every thing that was popular, no matter what it was, so we listened to Rock, Heavy Metal, R&B, Soft Rock, Country, Disco, Easy Listening, Funk, etc. all on one station!
Probably depended on the demographic. My area had a country station (WCMS), Two rock/pop stations (WGH & WNOR) and a soul station (WRAP). Also, WHIH. Almost forgot.
@@757optim I think we had a Country station too, but most of the new country songs crossed over to our "pop" stations. If I remember correctly, they were mostly on AM in the 70's. I don't remember FM stations until the 80's, when it started to divide a bit more.
Love songs are not what they use to be. For fear of offending anyone. Let’s get back to love. Please. Everyone… Also have you done any Teddy Pendergrass? I rarely see him on any reactions. You sure should! Love him!
I see that you've already reacted to several of his gems. But you haven't yet heard a couple of his early hits: "Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town"; and "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)". The first is more in the country vein, but the second one (which was an even earlier release) was quite a departure from Kenny's country style. Very interesting.
Your reaction was pure gold. Reactors that are just discovering Kenny bring back the memories of how his music was a spark that very quickly spread like a grass fire. I was lucky enough to see him in concert when he was top of the charts and soaring. When he sang a song like Lady, no matter how large the crowd, every person believed he was singing to them. It was magic and yes, I still melt a little every time I hear his voice 💜
Back in 80 or 81 we (my high school band) played this on the field (when we still did those things) during the Homecoming Ceremony while the "Ladies" were introduced.
My introduction to Kenny was my birth in 1977. He's one of those artists who I have no memory of never knowing. Earliest Kenny memory is watching the movie Six Pack when I was five. But I remember being excited to watch the movie because he was in it. RIP Kenny.
Love this but I cry every time, esp comparing both this and the duet…Both knew it was probably their last time singing it together….joking about a bit ….coz I’m sure they’d cry themselves 😔etc…..and to say the young man Lionel Richie….breaks my heart ❤️ Love Teddy too….what a voice what a man 🙏🏼💕🕊
You're a joy to watch because the love you have for great music and the artist performing...Kenny Rogers did cross genres and was raised a few miles from my home in Houston. I'm a new subscriber and hope you'll add Glenn Campbell and Steve Perry's songs to you library! Thank you!
Try his song” through the years” and “sweet music man” also a song released in honor of his death he recorded and never released good-bye loved-your reaction. The tone of your enthusiasm made this feel like my first listen even though I grew up with him being played on records love it thanks
Lionel had a funny story on how he wrote Lady. See his duet with Kenny Rogers for the details! L🤣L Kenny, a Houston native, crooned so many ladies with his version! ❤ Suggested next video, a duet: Don't Fall in Love with a Dreamer with Kim Carnes. 👩🎤👨🎤 Kenny helped out another Texan. Please play Journey,Bee Gees, and Air Supply PLEASE Kenny always had is wife there, Kenny and Lionel did do this song together and it is amazing XOXO Brandi Modrak
I was looking at your play list and don't see anything by VoicePlay there. They did a wonderful acapella version of Eleanor Rigby, and a wonderful cover of Can't Help Falling in Love. I'd love you to react to them.
This song hits different for ladies. He melted hearts with this song. Every woman wants to be his Lady

This is just classic, nother else. Legendary
I appreciate your power reaction, you get it. Thank You
Just that last line” you’re the love of my life, you’re my lady” says it all. What we want our women to know
Kenny Rogers was 42 years old here. I distinctly remember the first time my 12 year old self fell in love with this man. My mom loves him and he was one of her hollywood crushes. I grew up with his music. Such an amazing voice. R.I.P Kenny Rogers❤
Oh I would love.to see you react to She Believes in Me ....by Kenny
I'm over 50 and my eyes water each time!
Brilliant reaction. Kenny Rogers was truly one of a kind.
Every woman wants someone to sing this song to them and mean it.To feel that powerful love,to receive that powerful love must be the best feeling in the world.

Absolutely we do want to feel that special
Great reaction. Best live version of any song I have ever heard!!!
Agree..one of the greatest live performances you'll ever see ❤🎤
So many goosebumps I'm gonna have to fly south for the winter ❄️
This live version was far better than the studio version.
Just him and the mike. He didn't miss a note. What a voice.
❤❤❤ Your reaction ❤❤❤

Kenny Rogers Is The One That Passed Away...

Richie wrote a hell of a song. And what a perfect matching of a song with a singer.
Amazing voice and performance..Rest In Peace Kenny

Nice Reaction! I agree, Kenny Rogers is one of those singers everyone loved!

Monster #1 song in November-December, 1980. My mother loved it so much 😊
Still gives me goosebumps
It's o beautiful. Always loved him .He reaches right inot your heart What woman wouldn't want to hear this sung to them.
I saw Kenny in the 80's along with Dolly Parton, it was an amazing concert, he did this song. Great memories, thank you.
One of my favorites! Beautiful song!🎶
Oh heaven. Loved Kenny Rogers. Saw him in concert only once. You feel he is singing directly to you. Kudos to Lionel also
Kenny is incredible and he has just one of those voices that you can never mistake. You should listen to a duet he did with Dolly Parton called Islands In The Stream, the song was written by the Bee Gees.
RIP Kenny. And Dusty Hill who we learned today has passed. As Billy said, he was the bottom to the Top.
He was amazing. This song is a great so to propose to a woman by, how could she ever say no.
Lionel wrote it but that was Kenny's song. There's a great clip of them singing it together years later you should react to.
Beautiful song sang by one great artist.
He did one not long before he passed away, with the group Home Free Children Go Where I Send Thee. You should hear it.
His son's teacher mentioned them, and he contacted them about doing the song with him.
Enjoyed your reaction very much
God bless Kenny Rogers
R.I.P Sir, thank you for the memories 🙏
Kenny rogers wrote the verse of song and that is always overlooked
The fluctuations in Kennys voice is absolutely beautiful.R.I.R.Mr. Rogers.
“Lucille” is another great KR song. This version of “Lady” is just over the top. I never get tired of watching it 😂🌺✌️
My old mechanic boss used to walk through the shop singing "Why did you leave me loose wheel"
Loose wheel …😁😂
Thank goodness for HARI! When you want excellent reactions and great songs this is where you come
It was amazing. Lionel and Kenny's friendship was also.
Such a beautiful song! RIP Kenny Rogers 🙏
You should catch a pre-gray Kenny with The First Edition band doing the improbably named 60s hit "I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in".
Lionel Richie covered "Lady" later on,but Kenny Rogers owned it.This song is his.Thank you Kenny.
Huge #1 record for Kenny. Written by Lionel Richie. ♥️🎼🎵🎶🇨🇦🇨🇦

If a man truly loves a woman, this is the song to play for them. Kenny was a pop singer first, not just country.
Listen to The Gambler and Coward of the County, famous hits with story and message behind them👍
I see that you've already reacted to several of his gems. Actually "Just Dropped In" was before Kenny went country. He was part of The First Edition then and there got his start.
Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town is one of my favorites!
Just a wonder, no other like it❤️❤️❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻thank you for your reaction that is the way I see it too
Great reaction Harri. Lionel Richie. Is one of the greatest song writers ever. Kenny Rogers was so good for so long.
R.I.P. Kenny

Harri, love it, is this the ultimate love song ?, what a voice Kenny had and sadly much missed. In the same vein try LIONEL'S " Three Times A Lady".
Back in 80 or 81 we (my high school band) played this on the field (when we still did those things) during the Homecoming Ceremony while the "Ladies" were introduced.
Still gets me every time!

Please react to Rupert Holmes - Escape (The Piña Colada Song)
Kenny's great but kudo's to the band. They accompanied him perfectly.
This is one of my favourites. If you like this song try "Lady in Red" by Chris de Burgh.
Love this but I cry every time, esp comparing both this and the duet…Both knew it was probably their last time singing it together….joking about a bit ….coz I’m sure they’d cry themselves 😔etc…..and to say the young man Lionel Richie….breaks my heart ❤️

Kenny also knew Dusty Hill, another Texan, of ZZ Top.
RIP Kenny Rogers , Dusty Hill.
🤠
Every reaction video claps at the end! I'm so glad I grew up with singers like this
I agree Teddy did a beautiful job with the song but when Kenny sings it he leaves no room for doubt as to who’s song it is!
Great song choice HarriBest music
You have a great amount of class keep up the good work
You should check out Through The Years by Kenny, that song will pull at your heartstrings.
Within this song I'm hearing a song by, "Morris Albert, "Feelings" which came out in 1975..
Silky smooth
Brother, I really enjoyed your reaction. Truly.
Love this song. Great reaction, Harri!
Makes you wonder how many kids were conceived to this song ?

This song puts me in a puddle every time.
So good...
With all the tears flowing lately, I'm not sure you're up to "Without You" by Nilsson.
👏👏👏👏👏
Lionel wrote it but it's Kenny's song. Miss him.
I love your reactions, always very much on point . Thank you!
