Genuinely curious as to what you guys thought of this series. To you was it a creative direction to take batman and his rogues or was it a miss fire, not understanding the core of the characters. Let me know what you think !!

I enjoyed the show and the creative direction it was taken in. I also enjoyed the animation style and fast combat which kept things entertaining. I also really liked mr.freezes costume design and that it ends with batman joining the justice league so you have something else to watch although the JL show is very different but atleast the show had a conclusion not cut half way in production

It is one of the best Batman shows. While it is nowhere on par with Batman TAS, it does better than Batman TAS in some ways. It makes some villains such as Bane and Mr Freeze harder to defeat. It also had a better portrayal of Killer Croc, Firefly, Hugo Strange, Terrible Trio, and Maxie Zeus. It also used its obscure villains in a better way than Beware the Batman. Also it didn't destroy Batgirl's character by making her have sex with Batman. Correction, Lex Luthor was the main villain of the Superman crossover.

I always loved this show for it's uniqueness, its style, and it's sound track. It's more silver age villain of the week format both helps and hurts it in my opinion. allowing it to keep the action fast paced and fluid, at the cost of long term story telling.
p.s love this clay face and love this joker, i know it's not traditional but it matches the stylistic approach they were going for, but they seriously nerfed his brain tho.

This series stands out to me as an interesting look at Batman's evolution as crimefighter: He starts off as a lone vigilante, starts getting supports from Gotham PD, takes sidekicks under his wing, and eventually becomes a founding member Justice League. It's not best but I do enjoy the gradually growth shown in each season.

  • @aarondrake69

I feel like I'm honestly the only one who enjoys the first two seasons more than the rest of the series. I feel like this show suffered from identity crisis. It couldn't decide if it wanted to dark or action orientated. The first season finale where joker twists Bennett into clayface is intense and really great. I feel like they just weren't sure about pushing the envelope and trying to hard to be different from btas

Don't blame her but the writers who decided to go the way of Batman TAS. This Batgirl would fit in the concept of season 1/2 but this Robin wouldn't.

This was a great show. The comedy hit in the right way with only quippy characters like alfred or penguin delivering one liners, great animation and action and it wasn't afraid to go a bit dark like Bruce Wayne getting paralyzed when Bane came to town. It was the perfect Batman cartoon to come after the one from the 90s and it did creative things with the villains so that they were part of the shows identity but still stayed to to the character.

This was my childhood Batman show. Having rewatched it recently made me enjoy it more than I did back in the day. I enjoyed the portrayal of Batman’s villains, though they didn’t have much depth to them in this version (excluding Ethan’s version of Clayface), they were fun to watch the interactions they had with each other and the world around them. That said, I honestly preferred the earlier seasons as Yin and Ethan were much more interesting than Jim and Barbara, despite the latter being the more “iconic characters.” I honestly just wished Yin and Ethan weren’t cut from the show entirely.

This show sold me on the idea of a 20-Something Batman/Bruce Wayne, and to this day, that’s my favorite type of Batman/Bruce Wayne. Like Beware the Batman and TellTale Batman. Otherwise, the show was....okay. I remember being hyped for the promo for Robin (when I was in peak Teen Titans hype), and I enjoyed the fight choreography. It was the first time I really saw Batman as a fast paced fighter as well as a slower paced, patient, countering one like I was used to in the animated series and the movies. The show could’ve benefitted with more substance. Never really felt like there was much to the characters outside of the moment that was the episode. And the music was pretty unbearable for me. Yet it was a decent show to watch passively on a Saturday morning.

I love this show. I really enjoy how the characters interact with each other, it leads to some pretty comedic moments. I do hate that they left out the Scarecrow and Two-Face and even discarded some of the tragic backstories of characters like Mr. Freeze. That cutaway sound effect is weird, but it seems like every Batman cartoon has at least one weird sound effect. At first, I thought it was weird that Robin and Batgirl were the same age, at least I think they're the same age, but I got used to it. Also, Tom Kenny (The Ice King) as the Penguin...brilliant.

    • @nakazatelen141

Here Batgirl was older than Robin, you can tell because she was taller than him which automatically in cartoons for teenage characters defines who's older.
Batgirl was 15-16 in this show, I don't know about Robin tho.. and how to I know about her? Well in one episode she was taking driving lessons and as we know Gotham is located in the US and you can get your driver's license at 16.

The first 2 seasons of this series was a masterpiece no cap. It was the perfect mix of dark and gritty but still cartoony and over the top and a little zany. Such an accurate representation of what Gotham is like but as the show progressed it just leaned a little too far on the “zany over the top” and basically became a Justice League show.

See, I actually think that The Batman's greatest strength *was* the fact that it was willing to take the characters in new and unexpected directions, while still making them recognizable, like with the Joker and Mr. Freeze. With most animated series based on comic books, they follow the usual canon enough that you can end up predicting a lot of what's going to happen, but with The Batman you could never be sure exactly what was coming next.

I love and like almost anything Batman (yes, Shumacher films included hahaha) I kinda think its underrated. Yes, it made changes that are kinda weird for the some characters, like Penguin and Joker being karate/kung-fu masters and Freeze's new origin. But I think the voice acting was good, stories they told were enjoyable enough. Again, not as good or complex as BTAS but still a fun watch if you wanna see something different and something that has Batman in it.

It's slower than I remember, but then again, everything on tv seems faster when you're young.
Looking back on it, I actually like how they made all the villains not only more dangerous, but also more competent.
Joker's a god-damned monkey; Penguin's athletic as all hell, with a weapons to match; Killer Croc is an actual crocodile; Mr. Freeze, instead of using a cryo-gun, is an actual cryomancer; and even the lesser villains are a serious threat.
I was actually surprised when I saw newer versions of these characters and saw how much weaker and how incompetent they all were. 'These aren't threats,' I thought, 'they're idiots.'

i really enjoyed this show and adored the character designs and art style. I thought the Batman voice actor and character was done well but could have used more development and i enjoyed the villains even if they were a bit 1 dimensional. I do still have fond memories of this show

This show had one thing which worked really well: simplicity. This show was no Batman Beyond, but it had real heart. It something that I yearned to watch just to unwind from a long school day, or frantic exams. I still do. The problems became more complex, but this series always had ita charm waiting for me. There was no complex moralities and delimmas, just a young Batman going about in Gotham. That was it, and that was what was needed. Shows like Young Justice are great, but at times, I feel they're too overpowering with their meta-social commentary on sexuality, race and global conflicts. This show, was just what you needed at the end of the day: a Batman who always came out on top and always kept going. Just the simple things such as the night stay being colored differently everytime made me feel this show always knew it was light and entertaining. This was one of the shows I truely loved, and still love, to this day.

I love Batman:TAS for the mature and melodrama take and making Mr. Freeze from a gimmick villain to a tragic one but I liked that this Batman series was action based with some dark tones here and there. Not every adaption of the characters will be the same or similar. I was upset when Ming-Na decided to stop voicing the character of Ellen Yin but found it interesting to see Batgirl before Robin debut. Also Penguin knowing how to fight made him interesting and more of a foe than other versions of him.

It's true that the series lacks the great characterization that TAS was known for and is overall more kid friendly, with Batman uncharacteristically telling cheesy one liners like in the Brave and the Bold. However, I think it's great for a different reason- that is, the superb design, animation, and action sequences. The hand to hand combat is actually choreographed and is more fluid than most cartoons/anime I've seen, even the more modern ones. The acrobatics, car chases, and flights have a kinetic quality to them that elevates the show above its relatively thin characters and plot lines. The design is slick, and though it's obvious Batman's wide array of gadgets were to sell toys, to this day I still find them cool, especially since they're incorporated into interesting interactions between Batman and the various villains' gimmicks.

I enjoyed the show but one thing I didn't like was in season 4 when they got Robin after the stupid Bat embargo lifted how they just stopped using Batgirl. She showed up in like 5 episodes in seasons 4 and 5 and I enjoyed her take.
With that said, as someone who grew up on DCAU, Batman TAS, and all that the show was fine Saturday morning cartoon to me but never great. They had moments like Ethan, Bruce's friend being Clayface
With that said, my favorite aspect of the show was the fight scenes. I loved how he moved in action it was a lot of fun

Man, character designs were so good. Joker was so creepy with his Kabukis, with this flexibility of his mind actually embodied. Easily my favourite design of Riddler, so different yet so fitting. And the Ragdoll! I loved him so much!!
Even if the show doesn't give it's best in soundtracks - the intros were cool enough for me; The Vibe is there.
Robin's backstory was cool to see.
I still remember the episode in which everybody was turning into zombies (?) and Batman was loosing his allies one by one, only to finally surrender. It was a reverse situation and he got cured but man, I remember it hitting me way worse than "Failsafe" of YJ.

I remember loving this when I was little, like kindergarten in 2006. I don't remember any of bat girl, commissioner gordon, or robin. I didn't really stop watching cartoon network and I remember the show going off the air to be replaced by Batman: Brave and the Bold (which I loved too). Did it switch channels, get some kinda scheduling change, or did it just go under my radar somehow? I did watch a lot of it on a dvd case, but I definitely remember some CN bumper for it.
P.S. Do Krypto the superdog next.

  • @TBrizzle01

I do enjoy this series although it definitely has "Saturday morning cartoon" syndrome at times. Like Francis Gray can turn back time because he went crazy. That's all it took.
A good chunk of the episodes are shallow and some villains are reduced to common thugs but I don't mind it. I've seen Mr. Freeze's tragic tale a million times so no harm in just making him a criminal this time.
Also the creators had a difficult task. They were tasked with creating a Batman show that was entirely different from the incredible DCAU. They had to make a lot of difficult decisions. Some worked, some didn't.
With that said, I love the first two seasons of this show. I really like vigilante Batman with Alfred constantly trying to get him to quit risking his life as a vigilante.
I also like that this show actually has a canon to it. The review mentioned Yin and Clayface, but even things like getting a new Batmobile when the first one wrecks, etc.
Nerd rant over. I wonder if anyone will bother to read this?

If I were to be harsh on this show, I'd say it's a dumbed down version of Batman: The Animated Series. As you pointed out, it lacks the complexity that makes batman content engaging. Probably that's what made it hard for me to get into the series. Maybe I'll watch it completely at a later time. That said, the show's Jackie Chan Adventures-esque animation style is something I really like and very different. Lends a unique perspective.

This series isn't trying to be Batman TAS, it just wants to be a Saturday Morning Cartoon Batman series. For that reason, it focuses on the entertainment value more than it focuses on the character of the villains. If character development is in the show, it comes to the Bat Family.
I also like that up to Season 4, every character has an origin in the series and you can usually point to the Episode that is about them and their beginnings. In that respect, the show can be self contained and doesn't need to rely on the comics for recognition.

I don’t know if this was intentional but I like how the clayface who sees himself as just a monster is the first and is used to make the clayface who just wants to commit crimes and is the second which is kinda the opposite of the comics.

This is more of a reimagining of the Adam West series. Evident by the fact that Adam West I think even Burt Ward makes several cameos in the show. This is simple fun for a younger audience.

This show definitely has some good things. The best villains were probably Clayface, Firefly, Francis Grey, Everyman, Ventriloquist, Rag Doll, Riddler(his design was bad tho), Hugo Strange, Catwoman and Joker had some standout moments. I’d say this show has many positives and negatives. Season 5’s episodes when they weren’t JL based, were great. Only Superman and Green Arrow were worthwhile. The bat family relationship was nice. Mr Freeze, Man Bat, Bane, and Penguin were downgrades from there BTAS counterparts though.

I watched this show a lot as a child. I could be mistaken but I believe it was the first Batman entertainment I ever saw. Looking back at it now I recognize how flawed it really is but I still can't help but feel a little bit indebted to it. This was in a way my gateway into superheros and comic books and there are a lot of other excellent versions of the character I probably wouldn't have seen or appreciated as much without starting out here. On top of that my earliest memories of myself drawing pictures stem from me at the age of 5 or 6 attempting to imitate Jeff Matsuda's featured art design. To this day I can still see his influence on my art style whenever I sketch out a picture and for that I can never give him my full thanks. Unlike some childhood entertainment I viewed as kid like Land Before Time or The Charlie Brown Holiday Specials, where on rewatching I am filled with joy to recognize how they are as good for children as they are for adults. I return to this show and realize that maybe some stuff for kids really is just for kids. With all that it still had a big impact on my youth and I will always hold it in it's own special place personally.

I just had a good time watching it, I liked the characters and seeing them fight villains and interacting, doing their thing. I basically have the same idea about the show: Flash but with little substance. Still, one thing I do disagree on is how Batgirl and Robin were forgettable. While they appeared too little even after they were introduced, when they were present they were amazing. They were odd (I mean, Batgirl is in college in this series and Robin is still 10 but they're about the same height, what is up with that) and they got along better than any 10 year old-18 year old pairing would, but that relationship was always fun to watch. No, not romantic, that would be so wrong. But their banter managed to break up any dull stretches of an episode to me, their energy gave the show new life and they were given their own new details for the purposes of the show, only. While they by themselves were explored little, their relationship and personality kept the show above average to me. I mean, the whole "Kick his head off" clip shown at 3:30 reflected that perfectly.

The episodes that introduced: Catwoman, Joker, Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Riddler, Bane, etc. were all fun. The team-up ones like, anytime Robin or Batgirl were on screen, or that triple team of Batman, Catwoman, and Penguin episode, they were all fun; same with the Batman/Robin Doppelgangers. The darker themed ones like the Clock King, the Dark Knight Returns-type dystopian future story with Nightwing; that game show fat basement guy; Bruce Wayne's bestfriend becoming Clayface, all of these were very fun to watch.
