Sixteen years later, everyone's competition days are in the past, but this video is still awesome. Making me consider a poor decision about the master's division.
Almost 12 years later and this video is still the most motivational one I have ever added to my favourite list. In fact, it was the first video I added to my favourite list on youtube :)
Thanks Rick, I hope to make everyone proud. The US has a ton of talent both in IFSA and WSMSS!! An American will hold the wold title in each one day soon!!
Wow, I just started searching where the 46&2 started coming from. It took me several times to press the pause button to make sure I wasn't trippin' ballz. :D Nice choice of music dude.
Badf**kingass Mr lbstone! Congratulations on your accomplishment my friend! Its appropriate that America's strongest man drive the Fastest Production Truck! ;)
@Draykid The conclusion we get in the end is that strongman exercises, when performed for conditioning rather than maximal weight, are incredibly useful for an athlete. Furthermore, concerning the length of the rounds: Ross Enamait's and Joe DeFranco's circuits are all quite typically very short and very intense. The jump from max strength training the strongman way to conditioning is very short: more reps, more intensity, more explosiveness.
@misteres Under the boundaries of strongman training we have all of the following: keg, stone, and sandbag lifting (has always been included in strongman training regimes), car/truck pushing and pulling, farmer's walks, car/truck pushing and pulling, sledgehammer swinging (as a strength or conditioning tool), and single-handed dumbbell work. What do we have there? A list of exercises that Ross and Joe recommend and have their athletes do.
@misteres That's a matter of conditioning and as a matter of fact, guys like Ross Enamait and Joe DeFranco who both produce successful athletes through their S&C programs have always utilized a ton of strongman exercises.
Look a bob sapp vs mirco cro cop, not a powerlifter, but incrediblly strong and large. But i do agree with what you are saying. Somtimes power does overwhelm.
As far as the Atlas Stones go, is the lifters back supposed to be rounded like that? I mean, I understand you can make your back only so straight because grasping the stone is awkward, but it almost seems like its bad form when you watch it from the side. Input, anyone?
Whats scarey is that this is 2007. Derek is much stronger now than he was 4 years ago. To the all the roid fanclub people, compare his body to marius pudzianowski, who did take steroids. Huge difference in tone, veins, etc. If Derek did use roids it was minor, he's got a solid die and a very active, hard working lifestyle. He is the future of power lifting.
Kevin Nee is a great American Strongman and a very powerful guy! I wouldn't write him off so easily, he just chooses to compete outside the IFSA. But yes, I am the real deal!!
no matter who i see doing it their backs are always rounded when pulling it up to their knees... i think doing that allows you to get a better grip around them, I'm not a strongman so i wouldn't know exactly but it seems pretty logical
@Draykid Strongmen are not made for 5 min rounds after 90 seconds of explosive exercise they are physically exhausted as would anyone using the amount of power they do. Pudz has experience in kickboxing( feel free to correct me if im wrong). MMA fighters have started to use strongman training in their regime. But an immediate crossover is not viable for both sports.
@Waldozord its close but id say no, the thing that is always said by other strongmen is when you compete against pudzinowski is he has no weak event, every strongman has that one event there bad at or need to improve on and he has elimated that, thats what makes him so dangerous.
@jms8220 you do make a valid point but there are alot of strongmen who have alot of history with olimpic lifting like mikhail koklyaev and the late jessie murende, who where and are two very very strong men. but olympic lifting is more technique rather than brute strength these guys have.
only by about 3 seconds, derek had the last stone up first, which means he would have beaten mariusz like phil did in 06. The stone slipped off though at the last second and mariusz got the win.
Sixteen years later, everyone's competition days are in the past, but this video is still awesome. Making me consider a poor decision about the master's division.
derek is tough as nails man, strongman is all about hard work and passion.
Almost 12 years later and this video is still the most motivational one I have ever added to my favourite list. In fact, it was the first video I added to my favourite list on youtube :)
Wow, awesome job Garrick!! I couldn't have had a better person to put together a video of me!! It pumped me up to go train!!
Glad you guys liked the presentation!! I enjoyed getting to share my thoughts with you guys!!
Hey derek, tons of respect here. You and Travis are two guys who are next to win the IFSA world championship.
I love watching this before hitting up the gym. Great for getting in the mindset
I'll be competing again at the Arnold Classic in March.
Thanks Rick, I hope to make everyone proud. The US has a ton of talent both in IFSA and WSMSS!! An American will hold the wold title in each one day soon!!
total inspiration man, he is a beast!!
wow.... seems like such a soft-spoken and modest guy. what a great icon for the sport.
This is by far my favorite video on TH-cam!
That was my favorite video of yours yet. Keep them coming!
Good to see everyone else loves watching this before the gym. that being said, i'm off to the gym.

You have motivated me to do my 1st competition next month. Thank You!
Wow, I just started searching where the 46&2 started coming from. It took me several times to press the pause button to make sure I wasn't trippin' ballz. :D Nice choice of music dude.
Good job Derek and Garrick!
Badf**kingass Mr lbstone! Congratulations on your accomplishment my friend! Its appropriate that America's strongest man drive the Fastest Production Truck! ;)
this guy is my new role model
this song fits the video very well.
i cheered hard for Derek to beat Maurisz in WSM couple yrs back! one day man u will hold tht trophy above the rest
That log pressing is still one of the sickest things I have ever seen.
The name of the song is "Forty Six & 2 - Tool"
he is like 10x stronger now. this was when he was young.
Awesome video man.
Insane log press!
Derek Poundstone and Tool is a beastly combination.
@Draykid

His log-lift technique is unbelievable
security guard at my school.
3.51 i like, he has determination and heart.
True dedication, a true modern day beast. Steroids or not, he outworks everyone out there!!!
A strong man with visible abs...not a long list of these guys
watching him put up that last atlas ball scared the piss out of me.
only because it looked like he was seconds away from dropping it =O
ABSOLUTE BOULDER OF A MAN!
get bigger and stronger u re a new Hercules
@misteres
That's a matter of conditioning and as a matter of fact, guys like Ross Enamait and Joe DeFranco who both produce successful athletes through their S&C programs have always utilized a ton of strongman exercises.
AWESOME, I dont really understand the whole truck sequence though...
Jesus Christ!!!
What was the weight on the log?!
monster
Is that opening clip from a longer video somewhere?
DID you see strong man then? best and closest in years. Was shocked at poundstones position though
God damn.
Both played a large part in his success, highly motivated individual with the best possible chemical aids to go with it = super human
future WSM...without a doubt
@misteres
You're talking about a total newcomer against a guy who'd been ranked in the top 3 in the world previously, it doesn't show a gorram thing.
ok thats either a perfect circle or tool playing in the background
It's tool!!
I really like the last bit, from 6:00.
actually you were pretty close when i typed it in it said its origin was german...dont know where i got the english origin from.

WOW, crazy! would love to be strong, but be fast as well. like tony jaa. strength of a bodybuilder, and speed of a tony jaa
@MemoPittBull he's a goddamn machine
Fuck. Yes. This.
The weight is distributed enough that lifting it like that is considered proper and not dangerous.
what's the song? it goes great with the vid!
Son is called vicarious by tool
what are those things at the 3:00 min mark? what are they called?
What's the passage from 2:30 from?
It's Silver!!

That engine from 6:00 sounds sick.

zydrunas savickas is no.1 actually but poundstone is one big unit he's definately top 3.
this is fucking too intense
Im not taking any credit from the strongmen, I think they are incredible athlets, but they dont train purley for mma, they train sport specifically.

only by about 3 seconds, derek had the last stone up first, which means he would have beaten mariusz like phil did in 06. The stone slipped off though at the last second and mariusz got the win.
Whoa, the dude's a cop? Sweet. He gets a 9mm along with the 50cals in his arms.
@imvincenzo10
Took the words right out of my mouth and he's the one calling people naive lol.
is stronger that pudzianowski ?
me too, Polish power been number 1 too long and he was beat my phister in heats. Imagine if Marius is number 3 this year
