BMW E30 M40B16 Engine Restoration - Rebuild Time-Lapse | Part 2

  • Go to getroman.com/RESTORE for $15 dollars off your first order of ED
    treatment.
In this episode, I make a start on the parts from the M40B16 engine. Because the engine was deprived of oil due to leaks and the pick-up pipe being plugged, the entire engine is covered in oil that's been burnt on whilst the engine was running too hot. The machine shop episode is coming soon so we'll see if there's any real damage to deal with.
Thanks for watching. Subscribe for more!

I'm a car painter at a bmw dealer, and this made me very, very happy! Excellent job on the paintwork!
Small tip, spray your visor with clear laquer, when it fully cures and gets overspray on it, you can just clean it with thinner, like you could on any laquered surface. Worked for me for years, and didn't need to buy the replacement protectors

and to keep the inside of your mask from fogging get clear dish soap. Rub a thin layer on let harden a bit and buff off....

Maybe one tip for you: Parts like the oil sump or anything related to oil shouldn't be sandblasted as you never get the particles washed away afterwards. And if these particles find their way into for example the main bearings, that would be BAD. BUT you can soda-blast them and afterward just wash the soda away with water :)

10:15 did you blast the front block cover with the oil pump assembled? If so the grit trapped in the pump will destroy your engine if you don't clean it out.

TIP: instead of paying silly money for the quartz silicone remover... Just get 5L of clear methylated spirits and mix its 1:1 with water..
This is essentially Prepsol (panel solvent based cleaner), used before spraying... :)
Ive used it for many years.. Never get silicone fish eyes in my paint work

Do you have any tips for replacing a IAC valve ? I recently replaced the idle air control valve on my 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS , but now it tends to idle at 2k rpm, when I step on the accelerator and let go, it doesn’t slow down or drop rpm, it stays the same and drives like an automatic car at times , it’s a stick shift
