I had a genetics testing panel which showed a mutation for Mitochondrial I Complex process. I began taking MB about 1 year ago, 30mg daily. Lifelong dark circles under my eyes cleared up, my skin health improved vastly and I no longer feel fatigued by early afternoon or evenings. I also tapered off of an SNRI and feel MB is a very natural antidepressant (at least for me). I will continue taking it as I also have APOE Alzheimer’s risks.

@@JonasKuehneMD I began with 5mg and felt a noticeable improvement in energy but not much in terms of mood. I titrated to 30mg quickly, I do remember it being within my first order, so less than 1 month. I have responded very well, can’t think of any negative side effects.

Research has found that low doses have a better effect than high doses (Bell curve results) as you say, and that for Alzheimer it meliored the damaged parts of the brain but was detrimental for the healthy parts. wow, just wow!!! I tried MB for the first time yesterday on a long day hike. I took only 2mg about 30 min into the hike. About 30 min later, something happened, the MB must have kicked in, and I started feeling all this energy and hiking much faster. I'm 75 years old and I'm suspicious that us old folks might feel the effect of MB much more strongly than someone who's younger. Only 2 mg! This morning I took 1.5 mg and met a friend for a bicycle ride, and once again I felt more energy than is usual. In terms of energy level, it felt like it took 20 years off my age. I'm hooked!

One thing I don't like about MB so far is that even though it gives me quite a boost when hiking, the next day--sometimes the next few days--I feel a lot of fatigue, kind of wiped out, like I would feel if I had done too much coffee. I'm continuing to use it every 5 or 6 days when I go out for a long hike, and I'll continue to monitor that after effect. If that continues, I may not continue taking it although I do want to try it to see whether it will help with acclimatizing to higher altitude, but that won't happen till next summer.
@@jj-bp3fr I don't believe it does. It might slightly disturb my sleep or make it take a little longer to fall asleep, but I can't be sure about that. On the days that I take it, I'm doing a 3 hour hike at a rapid pace, and doing that alone (without taking MB) could have an effect on my sleep, so I can't say that MB makes my sleep worse, but also it doesn't seem to make it better. I'm enjoying the effect it has on my hard endurance exercise that I do every 5 or 6 days, so I'm sticking with that. I have been taking MB for 16 months at about 10-20 mg per day. I notice clearer thinking, more energy and most of all I NEVER get sick. No colds, no flu nothing. Once there was a slight fever in all these months. So I am dedicated to taking it and I am sharp at age 72.
Amazing! It has antiviral and antibacterial properties and can greatly enhance the immune system by optimizing mitochondrial function. If tolerated, I think it is a great supplement.
If stuck on a deserted island and could only have one health enhancing compound, I would choose Methylene Blue. Micro dosing, 2 days on and 1-2 days off with intermittent longer breaks off, has been most effective. Improved focus, energy, mood, and restful sleep- with no side effects. I've been taking this just before and during my cardio workout. I've noticed I can ride my bike at very high levels: levels 13,14, and 15, breathing very easily through my nose and heart rate max 120 but usually 118 for 40 minutes on hills and I'm 64 years old. My leg muscles never burn. They are stressed but never burn. I find this amazing. I used to be a personal trainer and fitness instructor for 13 year.
That is amazing and sounds like you’re responding extremely well to MB. I find that it increases my heart rate and blood pressure too much so that it caused discomfort during a workout with weights.
@@JonasKuehneMD , I heard that it inhibits nitric oxide, so it was explained that it might not be a good idea to take it right before doing weights. I just started it and I seem to be having quite strong detox reactions from it: headaches, lethargy, fitful sleep. I can definitely tell it is working on my brain. I have also felt more energy and better mood already. Just one drop, two at the max in a glass of water. My pee is not blue or green yet though. Wonder if that means anything. I have not seen people mention detox reactions from it.

@lenac2284 I In my humble opinion I think anything that we introduce into our body can stir up the homeostasis and we need to be careful. I supplement with activated charcoal and a fiber called guard gum , which is sold under the brand SUNFIBER.
I started taking methylene Blue about five days ago, mainly for energy and for arthritis pain. I feel as of today it’s been helping and after dinner it seems like the pain was back and my energy had dipped so I’m glad you mentioned the half-life. I’ve been taking eighth drops in the morning. Thank you for your feedback. I noticed taking it too close to bedtime Impaired my sleep. I often take it in the morning around 9 AM, and then a second dose around 1 PM.

If digging deeper, you will find many working remedies, and may smear campains against them. Can you explain milligrams in terms of drops? I have been doing five drops a day sometimes twice a day and I feel good but I would like to know if five drops is too much too little.
@@Lovemarvez People vary in tolerability in multiple orders of magnitude. So do not count the milligrams, but do your proper dose finding and do dosing repeatably. The calc is easy: 5dr * 0.05ml/dr * 1% g/ml = 0,0025 g = 2,5mg. I assume a drop for you is standard drop 0,05ml (you only know if measuring it, mine on "Amaz EU is 0.075ml;) and you use a 1% solution, 1% is some eclipse of "1% g/ml" - and with the units it implicitly makes sense ;) If you want to compare your redox state from what you see in your urine, you can first measure "blue absorption" in native urine, which is the "oxidized form" of MB, then add some ml CDS, and this makes all MB blue, so oxidized, so measure again absorption ratio to determine full content of MB. I use some "Color Meter" by Contechity in iOS to measure colors with white balance on white paper I put next to probe. Well works to some extend. For the ones having heard of "Arduino"::: To do this more repeatably, any light interruptor circuit best with some modulation technique to eliminate daylight is welcome. Most not wanting to modulate the led do it it dark cardboxes and by ramping up a LED till the reception levels match. Very linear. But you can also do it to cross correlation I found nicely explained for cypress PSOC in AN2042 of cypress, see web.archive.org/web/20180702175100/www.cypress.com/documentation/application-notes/an2042-psoc-1-multifunctional-optical-sensor You can of course download the zip with example code from archive. But since cypress was acquired by Infineon, do not expect the example code to run in their latest PSOC creator, but download some old one of the time of the code example. Or transfer the code to a platform of choice, like some Arduino or raspi with some 24 bit A/D and D/A chip doing the job nicely and away from the noise of the micro controller. The neurotic will do optical signal transmission to the analog board that gets some analogue regulated power supply in some properly shielded case by some LED lighting fibre or TosLink fibre. So for the data transmission. But also for the measuring light signals. No EMF can creep to the AD if you shield it properly and use multi-layer PCB. And many capacitors and adjacent PCB layers 50µm ajar to have a ground plane capacitance. By the same setup, and searching for DIY UV-VIS spectrometer, you can do full UV-VIS spectroscopy with reference points by cheap laser diodes with known wavelenghts, you can also use for fluorescence, so two-channel spectroscopy (one frequency illuminating and evoking fluorescence), and also determine some other useful concentrations, like CIO2 having 1250/cm as epsilon at 359 nm you will only find traps in internet Alibaba etc, so just get some standard money bill checking led 365nm and be done. And a multicolor LED for "unexpected" things like MB you can detect in red while green is the common reference channel, so measurement of both residual CDS and MB is possible, so you can check if they really kill themselves in conditions that are there in body. Am I making a mistake??? Excellent information doctor. I have been taking MB in the 10mg/daily range daily. I consume it by mixing it in water with about 1 gram of pure Vitamin C powder. I allow it to sit for a few hours which turns it clear and allows me to drink it without the nasty staining in my mouth. The information about working out and raising BP did give me pause for thought. I have been using it prior to working out , thinking it would oxygenate my blood and facilitate my workout. I also usually take a far infrared sauna after my workout. It sounds like I may be making a mistake ! I understand you are not giving medical advice or making a medical recommendation. Thank you for your great comment. Methylene blue can slightly increase blood pressure and heart rate. Some people are more sensitive to this than others. For that reason, I do not take it before or right after a workout. Mixing it with vitamin C is a good idea as it turns it into leukomethylene blue, which converts back to methylene blue in the body.
I believe everyone is different in terms of how they may react to methyl blue for exercising; it seems that’s what the doctor is implying. I am interested myself, so I plan to start small dosing for workouts as starters.
You should also search for Methylene Blue and red light treatment. MB will react with certain wave lengths of light and has been used to kill all kinds of nasty bacteria, such as necrotising fasciitis. MB has been combined with red light on the brain to improve neural function.

Oh my God.. I had the worst nightmare in a long time the night after taking it, in the Am, now I know it to have been too much.. I feel some relief seeing someone else say it.. I woke with a terrible headache also. Embarrassed to say I couldn't find my syringe for measurement so I sort of trucked on and figured I would be OK.. (I had a busy day ahead and wanted to be focused and on point).. I was horrified by the nightmare. Wow.. dosage is truly important
I noticed disrupted sleep in dosing throughout the day. Yesterday I took my normal dose all at once and not only did I sleep better, but I felt better effects for a longer period of time.
Thank you for addressing the questions I have, as to whether MB is habit-forming or whether there would be withdrawal effects when you stop taking it. I haven't seen any other videos provide that information.
Agree with taking before working out. I took about 7mg dose about an hour before walking while lifting 10lb dumbbells for about 1:15 min, which I do everyday. The day I took MB I was struggling to keep my stamina up, and had to fight through several times, which is uncommon. It’s anaerobic workout, so I’m out of breath the entire workout & Hr is high. After taking MB I was out of breath and heart rate would climb quicker than normal. I agree with the presenter and avoid before working out
I've been taking about 20-30mg daily for month or bit more (in split doses, restored by ascorbic acid), which is 0.25mg/kg to 0.38mg/kg in my case and after that did a 4 day water fast and I actually noticed that urine was colored green until the very end of 4th day. So seemingly it did accumulate over time and I'll need to tune down the dosage. I've actually seen something similar in literature when they proposed that color may be indicative of patient oxidative status (the darker urine gets, the more oxidative stress there is), but I also think that taking pauses can help figure out individual dose. That’s great information. Yes, ideal doses will vary individually. I always take one day off completely per week. I also noticed that while I take it in the morning usually around 9 AM, green or blue urine sometimes continues until the evening or longer. It is difficult to say how well one can predict the half-life based on that, but if methylene blue is still accumulating in urine, and able to change color then there should still be a significant amount left.
Thanks, great summary. Some of the literature discusses drops, others mg. The leaflet that came with mine stated 1% solution, each drop contains 0.5mg, and instructions to build up to 7 drops (3.5mg). The dosing chart in Mark Sloan's book is helpful. I wanted to improve mental clarity (im 66) so i now take 14 drops or 7mg, which is enough for me. Interesting info re: half life and taking a break. PS, no microbiome issues at all, in fact i would say gut tolerance of grains has improved. I make my own yoghurt with foundation species like L. Reuteri
Thank you for your details comment. I also find that about 7 to 10 mg daily is sufficient. The issue with disruption of the gut micro biome seems to occur at higher doses above 30 mg daily for most people. Mental clarity and focus are also the reasons why I use it.
I found my dripper from my MitoBlue actually has 0.07ml, not the usual 0.05ml. No one does laser abrasive fine tuning on drop size of dropper tips fitting to viscousity of your fluid. But one can check with a scale or ml syringe. :) Please use eg. 1 % g/ml as concentration, and calc with units. (% is an abbreviation that leaves out the proper dimensions: 1% in reality is only a number, 0.01 - that‘s it. What companies and private persons should do is write dimensions to numbers. So we do not buy apples and get pears.) So we have a weight of an active ingredient like 1g and solve it in 100ml by „adding water till 100ml is reached“, in pharmacy latin „ad 100ml“. This corresponds to concentration as mass per volume. c=m/V so here c = 1g / 100ml = 1% g/ml Then you can actually calculate and check if all turns out nicely. You take 8 drops of 0.07ml and want to know the dose in mg: m=c*V = 1% g/ml * 0.07ml/drop * 8drops = 0.0056g = 5.6mg (Yes, we use drops as a unit and it nicely cancels out, so all is fine!) Done. Measure drop size…: So it may be informative to count e.g. 20drops and measure them out with a small syringe of proper size (I always buy some 1 / 2 / 5 / 10 ml , sometimes I get hold on a 20ml, to have easy fluid measurement available. Found one 1ml that extends its piston into the outflow tip, so it has no „dead volume“, cool. B.Braun Inject-F 1ml. Very fine scale 0.01ml also).

@@maryhall3722 After using the dripper a while, I came to a larger dose and now count whole load of a dripper I repeatably fill. One can also use pump systems that have very repeatable volumes per puff. For sprays, one would have to drill the nozzle wider so no hard jet or droplets form. I like to dig into combining it with detoxing stuff, had too many Hg fillings in teeths and too much ongoing reaction on certain safe-and-effective smurf parties... - as it improves the effectiveness of chelator like substances, VIt-C, NAC, Na-gluconate, EDTA (liposomal) etc., perhaps even to charcoal one swallows and that is a nice deposit also for stuff diffusing from blood into lumen of intestines. Perhaps it works even to boost the citric oils also helping there.
My MD has put me in the CFS box and I do notice a significant difference when I stop using methylene blue. Essential returning to brain fog and low energy.

MB binds to 80% something of cancers - but what do you do with it? Which agent kills the bound cells? I use CISS cure, so first deplete blood of antioxidants by taking F+ protocol to J.H., then after 3 hrs, I take a (sub-) drop of NaCIO2 I slowly rise. Yes I bought a bottle a long time ago but barely took any (1-2 drops every few days) since I had no idea how much to take and now I have leaky gut so need to check into this topic again
@@avarysse5782 The best info on how to heal a leaky gut I have found in the books and videos of cardiologist dr. Steven Gundry. Every 3 months he does blood tests on markers in his patients, to check if all the strategies he advises indeed have the desired results.
That seems to be quite a big dose. Personally, I only take 5 mg daily and take off one day per week at the moment. I sometimes go up to 15 mg per day. Depending on the reason you take it, some scientists argue that higher doses of 0.5 to 1 mg per kilogram are more adequate. I find ptosis too high as anything above 30 mg can disrupt the gut to micro biome.
I got the capsules (12mg per pill). I’m going to start with only one a day. I have severe tendonitis and neuropathy from fluoroquinolone toxicity (Levaquin poisoning). Symptoms have been ongoing for over 2 months so far. Doctors apparently don’t fully understand fluoroquinolone toxicity but it disrupts mitochondria production and damages your connective tissues. I’m a 30F and never had any pre-existing conditions prior to using this antibiotic for a minor sinus infection. This will be an interesting experiment and addition to my current treatment plan.
I’m sorry to hear about your experience with this antibiotic. These type of antibiotics are very dangerous and should only be used for rare circumstances. Hopefully MB will bring you great relief.
If anyone is interest. The blue stain from MB can be removed with a tooth brush wettened with Apple Cider Venegar diluted 1/2 strength. I have not tried tooth paste in this case.
I read that it has been used for Lyme disease, however I have not seen any studies or had personal experience with patients using it in this way. I will look into finding more research about this.
@@JonasKuehneMD, I just started taking MB for chronic lyme. I went 25 yrs undiagnosed. And by the time I was finally diagnosed, it had done serious damage to every system and organ in my body. I was finally diagnosed around winter 2014. The detoxing was pure Hell. But I had reached the point where I was dying after being exposed to black mold. So when I started on mb going on 10 days ago, I started with 1 drop of .05, adding one more drop a day. I think I will try staying at the 10 drops and see how that goes. Having your circadian rhythm disrupted with network is not easy, but I’m sure that optimizing your nutrition and adding supplements like methylene blue can be a great help. Make sure to check with your treating physician if you’re OK to take it.

Like iodine, MB will temporarily stain skin. But your body will absorb it and use it. Proving this to a friend, I poured MB on my hand the day before going to a wedding. The blue stain was all gone the next day. None living things is another story.

The company that makes the product on the thumbnail makes a version that uses L theanine and caffeine together with methylene blue for focus and memory. I think it is OK to combine them.
I've read that caffeine boosts it's effects, but I also get the sensation of too high blood pressure if I drink too much coffee. My advice: take less than you're used to taking.
Dear Dr Kuehne, hopefully you will see this question which wasn't answered in your video. Re dosing does it make a difference for what one is dosing? In my case M.E. which is also known as CFS. You are the first person to point out that the recommended dose of .5- 4 mg per kg is for intravenous!
Thank you for comment. Yes, there can be variations in dosing for different applications. It is interesting that thereis not a very set dosing schedule. In my opinion, oral dosing can be anywhere between 5 mg to 30 mg daily. I would suggest to start low and slowly titrate up. The doses can be broken up to twice daily, however, I do not recommend to take it too late in the day as for some people this might impair sleep.

Over how many days or months do you take it? Do you take breaks? Do you become psychologically dependent on this product if you take it every day over the long term and then stop taking it straight away?
diagnosed with ADHD at age 14 - now 40, Adderal nearly destroyed me - been using MB capsules at 20-30mg per day and its a better, cleaner, focus than the other drugs. I have noticed that i do tend to get a little short and grumpy if taking 30mg for more than a couple of days at a time. I tend to titrate up beginning of the week MON:15mg. Tues: 20 mg, Wed:30 mg, Thurs:30mg, Fri:20mg, then take a break over the weekend. works for me, not based on any specific protocol or science, just what feels right.
Thank you for this great post. It’s great that MB works for your symptoms of ADHD. Significantly healthier than Adderall and protective of the brain. I think this dose schedule is still reasonable and you do not go above 30 mg, so it should not impact your gut, micro biome. I hope that this will become more used by pediatricians and pediatric neurologist for ADHD patients.
Yes, they are a lot easier to take. There are a few contraindications to using MB, including pregnancy, breast-feeding and concurrent use of an SSRI. Officially I have to tell you it’s best to consult with your primary care doctor prior to starting any supplement or medication.

I am considering taking it for two applications: 1) to give an energy boost during long endurance events like long hikes in the mountains, and 2) to help with acclimatization when going to altitude, for example from 2400 feet elevation up to 8000 feet, spend 3 days there, and then up to 11,000 - 12,000 feet.
That would definitely make a difference. Not medical advice and of course there are contraindications like concurrent use of an SSRI, pregnancy or breast-feeding. My current dose is between 10 and 15 mg 4 to 5 days per week.

I'm way too old to consider doing what I'm planning to do: A trail marathon in the mountains of Utah, elevations between 9000 and 12000 feet, distance of 27 miles, elevation gain of 6400 feet. It's held in July, so I have time to train and try things. I wouldn't have considered it but lately I've been using DMSO to help facilitate recovery and healing of chronic muscle/tendon issues and that seems to be working. However one of my concerns are the added ingredients like DiCalcium Phosphate. I’ve read it can cause adverse effects. I’m wondering how much is added to the MB and what purpose?
Thank you kindly for your feedback. Dicalcium phosphate is added to many tablets and medications in small amounts. I could not find out how much of it is contained per tablet. I am not concerned about it causing adverse effects in the small quantities that would be necessary to help with the stability of the pressed tablet.
Maybe helpful, as this is improving mitochondrial health, which is compromised by Ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin. Not medical advice and they are certain contraindications to using MB.

Being on an SSRI is a contradict ation to using MB. Toxicity to do central nervous system, but only result after extremely high doses. The doses that researchers are looking at to prevent or treat dementia around 15 to 17 mg daily orally. This is of course, not medical advice. Always discuss with your primary care doctor prior to starting any supplement or medication.
I plan on starting methylene blue in November. I take Effexor and Remeron SRI s so will wean myself down to 1/3 or 2/3 dose of those and begin with a low dose of the MB. Probably around .5 or 1 mg. twice / day I'm looking forward to starting. I'm 80 yo.
Does methylene blue work the same when absorbed through the skin like in a cream? I added MB (2 dropper fulls about 20 drops) to a basic face cream and I’m wondering if the benefits are still obtained.
There’s probably Local absorption through the skin, but I’m not sure how much of it will become systemic. If you’re using this for cosmetic application, then there may be benefits in a cream. For systemic benefits, I would recommend to take it orally either as liquid or his tablets. There is a company called best365labs that makes a tablet form.
I do that. The largest available capsules, size 000, take about 1.2-1.3 ml, corresponding to a 12-13 mg dose of MB with 1% solution. The ones I have used last 2-3 minutes from filling, you notice when they start to soften... I have been wondering if shelf stable capsules could be made if you mix the MB powder with oil instead of water. Oil will not dissolve the gelatine capsules... I am not sure how MB powder would mix with oil, I have not tried that yet. I think I would choose MCT-oil if I was to try that.

If you have healthy kidney function, it should not bother your kidneys too much. The idea to take one or two days off per week and let it completely clear out of your system is more a precaution. There are no long-term studies, taking MB regularly even at very low doses.
You can take the tablets with food or just with water. The liquid drops are best mixed with water, but be careful because even diluted they will stain everything they touch.
I don’t know how much is in a drop so I just take one drop. Anyone actually talk about how many grams in a drop from the dropper? I definitely don’t have any blue urine.
I bought Methylene blue 1% liquid with dropper, the bottle doesn’t say anything about how much to take or if I need to add in water or pure. And watching your video I only got that I can take 2 to 5 mg per day to be safe. But I am still confused in how much to take
Please discuss any medication with your physician. Methylene blue is contraindicated if you are taken an SSRI, or pregnant or breast-feeding. At one percent liquid usually is 0.5 mg per drop. That means 10 drops equals 5 mg.
DMSO can enhance the effectiveness of MB. It is OK to take them together. The Cortisone injection is not a contraindication for MB. Thank you so much for your feedback!
I've been growing mushrooms. I have test plates of each mushroom strains. I saw bacteria and put methylene blue on it and the mycelium wasn't hurt by it.

At low doses, it will not likely act as a vasopressor increasing blood pressure. Improving mitochondrial function in the endothelium of blood vessels may contribute to improved elasticity and function of the vessels.
Hello? Not difficult to remove at all. Just mix an acid with water and apply to stain. Will get rid of the blue color. I have used dilute HCl, ascorbic acid, etc.
Thanks for the dosing information. I'd been taking a moderate dose for a year, then upped it to 90mg's per day (split into 2 doses) to see if I'd notice any difference. Not really. Only think I did notice was the half-life of color in my urine was blue to blue green all day and night. So looks like I'm saturated and need to drop back down.
I agree, I had tried increased doses and did not find improvement in cognitive function or energy levels. The risk of doses above 30 mg daily is disruption of the gut Microbiome, as MB can act as an antibiotic.
You too should stop for a minimum of thirty days. And use a very very low dose if you start back. Being aggressive is unwise in most things. These thing's have real biochemical reactions.
That is difficult to answer. Improving mitochondrial health and function in nerve cells may be beneficial here, but I am not aware of any study data for this indication.

Methylene Blue does not eliminate iron, but it affects iron levels by reducing ferric iron (Fe3+) back to ferrous iron (Fe2+) in the heme molecule of hemoglobin.
Is the MB better absorbed, more noticeable effects holding it in mouth sublingually vs. immediately drinking it down in water or ?? Also, are the drops and tablets as effective as being given MB intravenously? Many insurance companies do not cover MB IV treatments for things such as mycotoxin illness, and run between $200-$400 per treatment where I'm located. I'm just wondering if the drops and/or tablets would even be worth it for someone dealing with mycotoxins, but unable to afford MB intravenously. Thank you.
MB has an or absorption close to 90%. Therefore, I think oral consumption is absolutely fine. You should not use them sublingually as it will significantly stain your mouth. The tablets work really well you can simply swallow them with some food and they should hardly stain your mouth at all.
The bottle in the video (1% solution) states that 20 drops = 5mg so that would be 0.25mg/drop but your video says there is 0.5mg/drop. That's a big difference. Who is correct?
How safe would MB for someone who has had a colon rupture with need for more repair in future, but left with severe fog and apathy from the sepsis. By the time I got to ER my ankles were blue and creeping up and I was hallucinating. That was only 30 minutes after and was in OR 30 minutes after that. O2 was mid 80's for several days. It also took a while to type and small tasks. Almost there, and this was in March this year.
I would definitely suggest to run this question by your surgeon. I’m sorry to hear about your scary experience. One of the treatments for sepsis is high dose IV vitamin C (50,000 to 100,000mg) if G6PD is normal.
I was wanting to mb for inflammation for my crohns disease. Wss also thinking of using it for exercise benefits. But after hearing ur video on not to take it before exercise, i am a bit put off now.
I found that using it two hours before or one hour after a workout is OK. This is of course not medical advice. Keep in mind that doses above 30 mg can disrupt the gut micro biome, which would not be beneficial especially with Crohn’s disease. I currently use between 10 and 15 mg 4 to 5 days per week with one to two week breaks periodically.
I have not seen any studies, specifically, looking at peripheral neuropathy, and methylene blue. Giving its mechanism of action and ability to be absorbed into nerve cells, It might give some improvement. It’s best to discuss this with your neurologist.

Both are activating and can increase heart rate and blood pressure. So it’s best to check with your treating physician on this. It should not be taken together with an SSRI, which Adderall is not.
Get tested for G6PD! If you have this genetic mutation, red blood cells will be broken down too fast. Most anti-malarials will cause the same along with legumes, especially Fava beans. G6PD is also called Favism for that reason. It's similar to sickle-cell disease but more prevalent in the Jewish population.
My 87 yo mama is on 30mg of Duloxetine a day. Also prednisone, hydroxychloroquine and hydrochlorathyazide. I know its contraindicated for an ssi but what about at a very low dose? Any also decreasing her Duloxetine? She needs the cognitive support desperately. Thanks for this video. 🙏💗
The threshold to develop serotonin syndrome varies greatly from person to person. I would definitely run this by her treating physician, but out of caution, it would be best not to have an SSRI at the same time. A dose between five and 15 mg MB daily has shown efficacy for dementia.

1mL is usually 20 drops. So 0.5mg per drop here. Cannot give official advice on this platform. Most of my patients take between 5 and 15 mg daily. 10mg would be 20drops here. There are some contraindications, including pregnancy, breast-feeding, and concurrent use of an SSRI.

Great question. It varies, but most companies are doing research with around 15 mg daily. For most liquid preparation that would be 30 drops. This may be too much for some people though. Keep in mind that methylene blue can increase blood pressure and heartrate slightly. I think your current dose of 15 drops or 7.5 mg maybe sufficient. If your physician knows about methylene blue then this would be a good person to ask more specifically about your individual situation.

It will not change the effectiveness of MB. The ascorbic acid will briefly change it to leukomethylene blue, which is translucent. It will change back to MB once absorbed.
I had a genetics testing panel which showed a mutation for Mitochondrial I Complex process. I began taking MB about 1 year ago, 30mg daily. Lifelong dark circles under my eyes cleared up, my skin health improved vastly and I no longer feel fatigued by early afternoon or evenings. I also tapered off of an SNRI and feel MB is a very natural antidepressant (at least for me). I will continue taking it as I also have APOE Alzheimer’s risks.

Research has found that low doses have a better effect than high doses (Bell curve results) as you say, and that for Alzheimer it meliored the damaged parts of the brain but was detrimental for the healthy parts. wow, just wow!!! I tried MB for the first time yesterday on a long day hike. I took only 2mg about 30 min into the hike. About 30 min later, something happened, the MB must have kicked in, and I started feeling all this energy and hiking much faster. I'm 75 years old and I'm suspicious that us old folks might feel the effect of MB much more strongly than someone who's younger. Only 2 mg! This morning I took 1.5 mg and met a friend for a bicycle ride, and once again I felt more energy than is usual. In terms of energy level, it felt like it took 20 years off my age. I'm hooked!

One thing I don't like about MB so far is that even though it gives me quite a boost when hiking, the next day--sometimes the next few days--I feel a lot of fatigue, kind of wiped out, like I would feel if I had done too much coffee. I'm continuing to use it every 5 or 6 days when I go out for a long hike, and I'll continue to monitor that after effect. If that continues, I may not continue taking it although I do want to try it to see whether it will help with acclimatizing to higher altitude, but that won't happen till next summer.

@@jj-bp3fr I don't believe it does. It might slightly disturb my sleep or make it take a little longer to fall asleep, but I can't be sure about that. On the days that I take it, I'm doing a 3 hour hike at a rapid pace, and doing that alone (without taking MB) could have an effect on my sleep, so I can't say that MB makes my sleep worse, but also it doesn't seem to make it better. I'm enjoying the effect it has on my hard endurance exercise that I do every 5 or 6 days, so I'm sticking with that. I have been taking MB for 16 months at about 10-20 mg per day. I notice clearer thinking, more energy and most of all I NEVER get sick. No colds, no flu nothing. Once there was a slight fever in all these months. So I am dedicated to taking it and I am sharp at age 72.

I've been taking this just before and during my cardio workout. I've noticed I can ride my bike at very high levels: levels 13,14, and 15, breathing very easily through my nose and heart rate max 120 but usually 118 for 40 minutes on hills and I'm 64 years old. My leg muscles never burn. They are stressed but never burn. I find this amazing. I used to be a personal trainer and fitness instructor for 13 year.
That is amazing and sounds like you’re responding extremely well to MB. I find that it increases my heart rate and blood pressure too much so that it caused discomfort during a workout with weights.
@@JonasKuehneMD , I heard that it inhibits nitric oxide, so it was explained that it might not be a good idea to take it right before doing weights. I just started it and I seem to be having quite strong detox reactions from it: headaches, lethargy, fitful sleep. I can definitely tell it is working on my brain. I have also felt more energy and better mood already. Just one drop, two at the max in a glass of water. My pee is not blue or green yet though. Wonder if that means anything. I have not seen people mention detox reactions from it.

@lenac2284 I In my humble opinion I think anything that we introduce into our body can stir up the homeostasis and we need to be careful. I supplement with activated charcoal and a fiber called guard gum , which is sold under the brand SUNFIBER.
I started taking methylene Blue about five days ago, mainly for energy and for arthritis pain. I feel as of today it’s been helping and after dinner it seems like the pain was back and my energy had dipped so I’m glad you mentioned the half-life. I’ve been taking eighth drops in the morning. @@Lovemarvez People vary in tolerability in multiple orders of magnitude. So do not count the milligrams, but do your proper dose finding and do dosing repeatably.
The calc is easy: 5dr * 0.05ml/dr * 1% g/ml = 0,0025 g = 2,5mg.
I assume a drop for you is standard drop 0,05ml (you only know if measuring it, mine on "Amaz EU is 0.075ml;) and you use a 1% solution, 1% is some eclipse of "1% g/ml" - and with the units it implicitly makes sense ;)
If you want to compare your redox state from what you see in your urine, you can first measure "blue absorption" in native urine, which is the "oxidized form" of MB, then add some ml CDS, and this makes all MB blue, so oxidized, so measure again absorption ratio to determine full content of MB.
I use some "Color Meter" by Contechity in iOS to measure colors with white balance on white paper I put next to probe.

To do this more repeatably, any light interruptor circuit best with some modulation technique to eliminate daylight is welcome.
Most not wanting to modulate the led do it it dark cardboxes and by ramping up a LED till the reception levels match. Very linear.

You can of course download the zip with example code from archive. But since cypress was acquired by Infineon, do not expect the example code to run in their latest PSOC creator, but download some old one of the time of the code example.
Or transfer the code to a platform of choice, like some Arduino or raspi with some 24 bit A/D and D/A chip doing the job nicely and away from the noise of the micro controller. The neurotic will do optical signal transmission to the analog board that gets some analogue regulated power supply in some properly shielded case by some LED lighting fibre or TosLink fibre. So for the data transmission. But also for the measuring light signals. No EMF can creep to the AD if you shield it properly and use multi-layer PCB. And many capacitors and adjacent PCB layers 50µm ajar to have a ground plane capacitance.
By the same setup, and searching for DIY UV-VIS spectrometer, you can do full UV-VIS spectroscopy with reference points by cheap laser diodes with known wavelenghts, you can also use for fluorescence, so two-channel spectroscopy (one frequency illuminating and evoking fluorescence), and also determine some other useful concentrations, like CIO2 having 1250/cm as epsilon at 359 nm you will only find traps in internet Alibaba etc, so just get some standard money bill checking led 365nm and be done. And a multicolor LED for "unexpected" things like MB you can detect in red while green is the common reference channel, so measurement of both residual CDS and MB is possible, so you can check if they really kill themselves in conditions that are there in body. Am I making a mistake??? Excellent information doctor. I have been taking MB in the 10mg/daily range daily. I consume it by mixing it in water with about 1 gram of pure Vitamin C powder. I allow it to sit for a few hours which turns it clear and allows me to drink it without the nasty staining in my mouth.
The information about working out and raising BP did give me pause for thought. I have been using it prior to working out , thinking it would oxygenate my blood and facilitate my workout. I also usually take a far infrared sauna after my workout. It sounds like I may be making a mistake ! I understand you are not giving medical advice or making a medical recommendation. Thank you for your great comment. Methylene blue can slightly increase blood pressure and heart rate. Some people are more sensitive to this than others. For that reason, I do not take it before or right after a workout. Mixing it with vitamin C is a good idea as it turns it into leukomethylene blue, which converts back to methylene blue in the body.
I believe everyone is different in terms of how they may react to methyl blue for exercising; it seems that’s what the doctor is implying. I am interested myself, so I plan to start small dosing for workouts as starters.

You should also search for Methylene Blue and red light treatment. MB will react with certain wave lengths of light and has been used to kill all kinds of nasty bacteria, such as necrotising fasciitis. MB has been combined with red light on the brain to improve neural function.

Oh my God.. I had the worst nightmare in a long time the night after taking it, in the Am, now I know it to have been too much.. I feel some relief seeing someone else say it.. I woke with a terrible headache also. Embarrassed to say I couldn't find my syringe for measurement so I sort of trucked on and figured I would be OK.. (I had a busy day ahead and wanted to be focused and on point).. I was horrified by the nightmare. Wow.. dosage is truly important
I noticed disrupted sleep in dosing throughout the day. Yesterday I took my normal dose all at once and not only did I sleep better, but I felt better effects for a longer period of time.
Thank you for addressing the questions I have, as to whether MB is habit-forming or whether there would be withdrawal effects when you stop taking it. I haven't seen any other videos provide that information.

Agree with taking before working out. I took about 7mg dose about an hour before walking while lifting 10lb dumbbells for about 1:15 min, which I do everyday. The day I took MB I was struggling to keep my stamina up, and had to fight through several times, which is uncommon. It’s anaerobic workout, so I’m out of breath the entire workout & Hr is high. After taking MB I was out of breath and heart rate would climb quicker than normal. I agree with the presenter and avoid before working out
Thank you for your feedback. Yes, that was my experience as well. I found taking it two hours before or one hour after a workout was no problem.
I've been taking about 20-30mg daily for month or bit more (in split doses, restored by ascorbic acid), which is 0.25mg/kg to 0.38mg/kg in my case and after that did a 4 day water fast and I actually noticed that urine was colored green until the very end of 4th day. So seemingly it did accumulate over time and I'll need to tune down the dosage. I've actually seen something similar in literature when they proposed that color may be indicative of patient oxidative status (the darker urine gets, the more oxidative stress there is), but I also think that taking pauses can help figure out individual dose. That’s great information. Yes, ideal doses will vary individually. I always take one day off completely per week. I also noticed that while I take it in the morning usually around 9 AM, green or blue urine sometimes continues until the evening or longer. It is difficult to say how well one can predict the half-life based on that, but if methylene blue is still accumulating in urine, and able to change color then there should still be a significant amount left.

Some of the literature discusses drops, others mg.
The leaflet that came with mine stated 1% solution, each drop contains 0.5mg, and instructions to build up to 7 drops (3.5mg). The dosing chart in Mark Sloan's book is helpful.

Thank you for your details comment. I also find that about 7 to 10 mg daily is sufficient. The issue with disruption of the gut micro biome seems to occur at higher doses above 30 mg daily for most people. Mental clarity and focus are also the reasons why I use it.
I found my dripper from my MitoBlue actually has 0.07ml, not the usual 0.05ml. No one does laser abrasive fine tuning on drop size of dropper tips fitting to viscousity of your fluid. But one can check with a scale or ml syringe. :)
Please use eg. 1 % g/ml as concentration, and calc with units.
(% is an abbreviation that leaves out the proper dimensions:
1% in reality is only a number, 0.01 - that‘s it.
What companies and private persons should do is write dimensions to numbers. So we do not buy apples and get pears.)
So we have a weight of an active ingredient like 1g and solve it in 100ml by „adding water till 100ml is reached“, in pharmacy latin „ad 100ml“.
This corresponds to concentration as mass per volume.
c=m/V so here
c = 1g / 100ml = 1% g/ml
Then you can actually calculate and check if all turns out nicely.
You take 8 drops of 0.07ml and want to know the dose in mg:
m=c*V = 1% g/ml * 0.07ml/drop * 8drops = 0.0056g = 5.6mg
(Yes, we use drops as a unit and it nicely cancels out, so all is fine!)
Done.
Measure drop size…:
So it may be informative to count e.g. 20drops and measure them out with a small syringe of proper size (I always buy some 1 / 2 / 5 / 10 ml , sometimes I get hold on a 20ml, to have easy fluid measurement available.
Found one 1ml that extends its piston into the outflow tip, so it has no „dead volume“, cool. B.Braun Inject-F 1ml. Very fine scale 0.01ml also).

Yes, I did in fact use a tiny 2ml syringe, removed the plunger and counted my drops into the empty chamber. It just helped me to reframe the volume I was using from drops into ml. 😊
@@maryhall3722 After using the dripper a while, I came to a larger dose and now count whole load of a dripper I repeatably fill. One can also use pump systems that have very repeatable volumes per puff. For sprays, one would have to drill the nozzle wider so no hard jet or droplets form.
I like to dig into combining it with detoxing stuff, had too many Hg fillings in teeths and too much ongoing reaction on certain safe-and-effective smurf parties... - as it improves the effectiveness of chelator like substances, VIt-C, NAC, Na-gluconate, EDTA (liposomal) etc., perhaps even to charcoal one swallows and that is a nice deposit also for stuff diffusing from blood into lumen of intestines.
Perhaps it works even to boost the citric oils also helping there.

Thank you for your comment and feedback. I am currently taking 5 mg daily as tablets which equals 10 drops. I do take one day per week off to let it completely get out of the system. I do not think that there are long-term issues but then again we do not have long-term studies so we cannot be sure.

Took 8 days after I stopped MB (50mg/day for just 2 days) until my urine was normal again. Great tip about the vitamin C.
That seems to be quite a big dose. Personally, I only take 5 mg daily and take off one day per week at the moment. I sometimes go up to 15 mg per day. Depending on the reason you take it, some scientists argue that higher doses of 0.5 to 1 mg per kilogram are more adequate. I find ptosis too high as anything above 30 mg can disrupt the gut to micro biome.
I got the capsules (12mg per pill). I’m going to start with only one a day. I have severe tendonitis and neuropathy from fluoroquinolone toxicity (Levaquin poisoning). Symptoms have been ongoing for over 2 months so far. Doctors apparently don’t fully understand fluoroquinolone toxicity but it disrupts mitochondria production and damages your connective tissues. I’m a 30F and never had any pre-existing conditions prior to using this antibiotic for a minor sinus infection. This will be an interesting experiment and addition to my current treatment plan.

@@JonasKuehneMD, I just started taking MB for chronic lyme. I went 25 yrs undiagnosed. And by the time I was finally diagnosed, it had done serious damage to every system and organ in my body. I was finally diagnosed around winter 2014.
The detoxing was pure Hell. But I had reached the point where I was dying after being exposed to black mold.
So when I started on mb going on 10 days ago, I started with 1 drop of .05, adding one more drop a day. I think I will try staying at the 10 drops and see how that goes. And taking breaks a day or 2 a week.

Like iodine, MB will temporarily stain skin. But your body will absorb it and use it. Proving this to a friend, I poured MB on my hand the day before going to a wedding. The blue stain was all gone the next day. None living things is another story.
I had put a drop on my hand be fore using, to see if I had an allergic reaction. Nothing happened and the next day the blue spot was indeed gone

The company that makes the product on the thumbnail makes a version that uses L theanine and caffeine together with methylene blue for focus and memory. I think it is OK to combine them.
I've read that caffeine boosts it's effects, but I also get the sensation of too high blood pressure if I drink too much coffee. My advice: take less than you're used to taking.
Dear Dr Kuehne, hopefully you will see this question which wasn't answered in your video. Re dosing does it make a difference for what one is dosing? In my case M.E. which is also known as CFS. You are the first person to point out that the recommended dose of .5- 4 mg per kg is for intravenous!
Thank you for comment. Yes, there can be variations in dosing for different applications. It is interesting that thereis not a very set dosing schedule. In my opinion, oral dosing can be anywhere between 5 mg to 30 mg daily. I would suggest to start low and slowly titrate up. The doses can be broken up to twice daily, however, I do not recommend to take it too late in the day as for some people this might impair sleep.

MB lowered my blood pressure...139/85. Two months of MB 124/74.....no change in diet.
Even though it is a vasopressor, so potentially can increase blood pressure, this will usually happen at much higher doses.

diagnosed with ADHD at age 14 - now 40, Adderal nearly destroyed me - been using MB capsules at 20-30mg per day and its a better, cleaner, focus than the other drugs. I have noticed that i do tend to get a little short and grumpy if taking 30mg for more than a couple of days at a time. I tend to titrate up beginning of the week MON:15mg. Tues: 20 mg, Wed:30 mg, Thurs:30mg, Fri:20mg, then take a break over the weekend. works for me, not based on any specific protocol or science, just what feels right.
Thank you for this great post. It’s great that MB works for your symptoms of ADHD. Significantly healthier than Adderall and protective of the brain. I think this dose schedule is still reasonable and you do not go above 30 mg, so it should not impact your gut, micro biome. I hope that this will become more used by pediatricians and pediatric neurologist for ADHD patients.

Yes, they are a lot easier to take. There are a few contraindications to using MB, including pregnancy, breast-feeding and concurrent use of an SSRI. Officially I have to tell you it’s best to consult with your primary care doctor prior to starting any supplement or medication.

I am considering taking it for two applications:
1) to give an energy boost during long endurance events like long hikes in the mountains, and
2) to help with acclimatization when going to altitude, for example from 2400 feet elevation up to 8000 feet, spend 3 days there, and then up to 11,000 - 12,000 feet.
That would definitely make a difference. Not medical advice and of course there are contraindications like concurrent use of an SSRI, pregnancy or breast-feeding. My current dose is between 10 and 15 mg 4 to 5 days per week.

It's held in July, so I have time to train and try things. I wouldn't have considered it but lately I've been using DMSO to help facilitate recovery and healing of chronic muscle/tendon issues and that seems to be working. I am not concerned about it causing adverse effects in the small quantities that would be necessary to help with the stability of the pressed tablet.

Being on an SSRI is a contradict ation to using MB. Toxicity to do central nervous system, but only result after extremely high doses. The doses that researchers are looking at to prevent or treat dementia around 15 to 17 mg daily orally. This is of course, not medical advice. Always discuss with your primary care doctor prior to starting any supplement or medication.

I plan on starting methylene blue in November. I take Effexor and Remeron SRI s so will wean myself down to 1/3 or 2/3 dose of those and begin with a low dose of the MB. Probably around .5 or 1 mg. twice / day I'm looking forward to starting. I'm 80 yo.

Does methylene blue work the same when absorbed through the skin like in a cream? I added MB (2 dropper fulls about 20 drops) to a basic face cream and I’m wondering if the benefits are still obtained.
There’s probably Local absorption through the skin, but I’m not sure how much of it will become systemic. If you’re using this for cosmetic application, then there may be benefits in a cream. For systemic benefits, I would recommend to take it orally either as liquid or his tablets. There is a company called best365labs that makes a tablet form.

I do that. The largest available capsules, size 000, take about 1.2-1.3 ml, corresponding to a 12-13 mg dose of MB with 1% solution. The ones I have used last 2-3 minutes from filling, you notice when they start to soften... I have been wondering if shelf stable capsules could be made if you mix the MB powder with oil instead of water. Oil will not dissolve the gelatine capsules... I am not sure how MB powder would mix with oil, I have not tried that yet. I think I would choose MCT-oil if I was to try that.

If you have healthy kidney function, it should not bother your kidneys too much. The idea to take one or two days off per week and let it completely clear out of your system is more a precaution. There are no long-term studies, taking MB regularly even at very low doses.

A one percent solution usually has 0.5 mg per drop.

Please discuss any medication with your physician. Methylene blue is contraindicated if you are taken an SSRI, or pregnant or breast-feeding. At one percent liquid usually is 0.5 mg per drop. That means 10 drops equals 5 mg.
Can you take DMSO and MB ? Also I just took a cortisone injection. Thoughts on that?

At low doses, it will not likely act as a vasopressor increasing blood pressure. Improving mitochondrial function in the endothelium of blood vessels may contribute to improved elasticity and function of the vessels.

Not really. Only think I did notice was the half-life of color in my urine was blue to blue green all day and night. So looks like I'm saturated and need to drop back down.

That is difficult to answer. Improving mitochondrial health and function in nerve cells may be beneficial here, but I am not aware of any study data for this indication.

Methylene Blue does not eliminate iron, but it affects iron levels by reducing ferric iron (Fe3+) back to ferrous iron (Fe2+) in the heme molecule of hemoglobin.

Is the MB better absorbed, more noticeable effects holding it in mouth sublingually vs. immediately drinking it down in water or ?? Also, are the drops and tablets as effective as being given MB intravenously? Many insurance companies do not cover MB IV treatments for things such as mycotoxin illness, and run between $200-$400 per treatment where I'm located. I'm just wondering if the drops and/or tablets would even be worth it for someone dealing with mycotoxins, but unable to afford MB intravenously. Thank you.
MB has an or absorption close to 90%. Therefore, I think oral consumption is absolutely fine. You should not use them sublingually as it will significantly stain your mouth. The tablets work really well you can simply swallow them with some food and they should hardly stain your mouth at all.
The bottle in the video (1% solution) states that 20 drops = 5mg so that would be 0.25mg/drop but your video says there is 0.5mg/drop. That's a big difference. Who is correct?
I would always rely on the manufacturers specifications as each solution may have slightly different concentrations ultimately.

How safe would MB for someone who has had a colon rupture with need for more repair in future, but left with severe fog and apathy from the sepsis. By the time I got to ER my ankles were blue and creeping up and I was hallucinating. That was only 30 minutes after and was in OR 30 minutes after that. O2 was mid 80's for several days. It also took a while to type and small tasks. Almost there, and this was in March this year.

I was wanting to mb for inflammation for my crohns disease. Wss also thinking of using it for exercise benefits. But after hearing ur video on not to take it before exercise, i am a bit put off now.
I found that using it two hours before or one hour after a workout is OK. This is of course not medical advice. Keep in mind that doses above 30 mg can disrupt the gut micro biome, which would not be beneficial especially with Crohn’s disease. I currently use between 10 and 15 mg 4 to 5 days per week with one to two week breaks periodically.

I have not seen any studies, specifically, looking at peripheral neuropathy, and methylene blue. Giving its mechanism of action and ability to be absorbed into nerve cells, It might give some improvement. It’s best to discuss this with your neurologist.

Both are activating and can increase heart rate and blood pressure. So it’s best to check with your treating physician on this. It should not be taken together with an SSRI, which Adderall is not.

Get tested for G6PD! If you have this genetic mutation, red blood cells will be broken down too fast. Most anti-malarials will cause the same along with legumes, especially Fava beans. G6PD is also called Favism for that reason. It's similar to sickle-cell disease but more prevalent in the Jewish population.
So, dial back the dose.

My 87 yo mama is on 30mg of Duloxetine a day. Also prednisone, hydroxychloroquine and hydrochlorathyazide. I know its contraindicated for an ssi but what about at a very low dose? Any also decreasing her Duloxetine? She needs the cognitive support desperately. Thanks for this video.

The threshold to develop serotonin syndrome varies greatly from person to person. I would definitely run this by her treating physician, but out of caution, it would be best not to have an SSRI at the same time. A dose between five and 15 mg MB daily has shown efficacy for dementia.

1mL is usually 20 drops. So 0.5mg per drop here. Cannot give official advice on this platform. Most of my patients take between 5 and 15 mg daily. 10mg would be 20drops here.

MB is secreted mostly in urine and therefore passes through the kidney. I would discuss this with your treating nephrologist.

Great question. It varies, but most companies are doing research with around 15 mg daily. For most liquid preparation that would be 30 drops. This may be too much for some people though. Keep in mind that methylene blue can increase blood pressure and heartrate slightly. I think your current dose of 15 drops or 7.5 mg maybe sufficient. If your physician knows about methylene blue then this would be a good person to ask more specifically about your individual situation.

It will not change the effectiveness of MB. The ascorbic acid will briefly change it to leukomethylene blue, which is translucent. It will change back to MB once absorbed.
