      The only problem with gerald that prevent him being way bigger youtuber is how he "eat" some letters when he talk or not pronouncing it clearly..aother than that he is so underrated ...keep up the great work man..especially the cameras reviews,yours are the best!!

    This is genuinely the greatest meeting-of-the-minds between two of my favorite creators and knowledge bases for photography/cinematography cameras. No bias toward brands, just opinions based on user experience and factual evidence found through trial and error and research. One of the best educational videos in this space, hands down.

    Good talk. The rolling shutter bit I liked, especially since I own a Z Cam E2C, and while a few publications passed on it due to bad rolling shutter, I didn't think of it of it being as big an issue as they claimed when I actually had it in my hands.

    I don't care for 8k, I think the more important thing (in reference to Canon's next cameras) I'm excited to see at least 4k60, 10-bit, and Canon Colors combined.

    I thought Prores is available even to window users now. I have both a macbook pro and a windows laptop and with the new update I was able to export ProRes. That's what I majorly use now for my intermediate codec.

    Wouldn't Canon's WDR profile be their "lightly cooked" third option, between Log and Standard? I leave my XF405 in WDR for everything and it works out well. Good DR and enough room to tweak color and contrast a bit.

    ProRes is available for both Windows 10 and MacOS users in Adobe Premiere Pro. It’s been like that for over a year now. Apple does not support legacy DNxHD codecs anymore because of the change from 32 to a 64 bit operating system.

    My editing hardware can’t even handle 200mbps 4K let alone anything available today denser than that!

  • @krazyfrog
    @krazyfrog 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's sad that instead of prioritizing things like dynamic range, better codec and global shutter, companies are just pumping out more and more resolution. I get why they do it; 8K is easier to sell than global shutter and if they added everything to their "photo" cameras then their "video" camera division will have to shut down. But it's sad anyway.

    • @finnillson4808
      @finnillson4808 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Prasad Naik its basic marketing 101. Bigger sensor = better (it doesn’t). 8K = better image (it doesn’t). FF = better (it doesn’t for 95% of typical shooting scenarios). More MP = better (for photography yes!)

    • @krane15
      @krane15 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@finnillson4808 They do it because resolution is the easy part. The other stuff is not.

  • @danielrichter2115
    @danielrichter2115 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem with global shutter is that it uses the same tech as dual base iso. You can't have both in a camera, unfortunately. I'd personally rather have a dual base iso, but I can see an argument for global shutter.

  • @finnillson4808

    Full frame is highly hyped right now. The AF systems can’t perform well enough to shoot a talking head scene at anything below f2 with lights behind the subject without distracting pulsing or lens breathing (see Phillip Blooms FX9 video).
    Cinema shooting everything in or around f5.6 and certain shots at f2.8...why? Because shallow depth of field on everything is bad cinema!
    So what’s the point then? People absolutely obsessed with full frame f1.2 blurry everything and totally forget what makes a pleasing scene.
    Gerald said it himself. “You just stop down and bump the ISO on full frame”. Meanwhile I can shoot the same scene on say a GH5 or APSC with a f1.7 lens and achieve the same depth of field, with a faster aperture and lower ISO. What’s the point?
    The real competitive edge with FF? Fast wide angle lenses and really large MP counts. That’s it.
    Buy a FF. Try to shoot below f2. Can’t do it with AF. Turn off AF. Background to blurry. Stop down and bump ISO. You’ve now crippled all the advantages of your FF camera. 🤷‍♂️
    It’s absolute madness. It’s like buying a Ferrari to commute in bumper to bumper traffic. Feels good. Pretty dumb.

    • @stalman
      @stalman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hear what you’re saying, but I think you’ll find many full frame shooters that are having a great experience with it. Lack of depth of field is a real problem in some cases but not all.

    • @krane15
      @krane15 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no good or bad, its all subjective. However, you could argue appreciate and inappropriate. Shallow DOF is grossly overused and in many cases, completely unnecessary.
