They could take a page out of one of the recent battle field games and have you play as one of the marines up until he dies and then move the story to someone else’s perspective to really drive home the idea that these soldiers are not as strong as the Spartans and really lean into the story telling and semi-helplessness that humans face against the covenant

I’m glad that they changed the name to Arbiter. It’s way cooler, and it has closer ties to the Old Testament “Judges” that the role is based off. Watching this video, I was actually surprised that it was a last minute change because it’s such a better name.

A dervish is a mystic(sufi) who has taken a vow of poverty and dedicated their life to worship, it is not a violent or militaristic role, but I guess war on terror am I right? The only possible link is that Sufis try to reach impeccability, and the arbiter is repenting for his sins, but that's the thing, if you were considered enough of a sinner to be executed you won't get accepted as a dervish, in fact it's not a role you pick up to repent or wash away your sins, it is a role you pick up to be as close to God as possible, so much so that true love is considered to be towards God while love towards other humans is considered exaggerated and false love, with that knowledge if you ever see what looks like a love poem credited to Rumi that is about God, in general it is a fanatical and zealous role but not a violet one.
Something I’ve always thought would be cool is if MCC included all the pre release builds of games. Imagine being able to play the e3 Halo 2 demo. Or being able to play around in the 1999 CE build seen at MAC world. With mod tools coming to MCC with full support on steam workshop imagine the things people could do with those builds.
I actually hope they make a walk around map of the Halo 3 Believe trailer. Even if it’s not a competitive shooter map it would still be able to walk around and see

While the map that was intended to be a remake of Halo 2's Lockout didn't make it into the game, the map The Cage that we did get is a remake of a cut map from Halo CE by the same name, which Halo 2's Lockout is actually a remake of. So, in a way, Lockout did make it into the game...but in its original form, not Halo 2's iteration.
Huh, wild. You can clearly see that just as much of The Cage went into Ascension as there was in Lockout, so it's kinda wild that Ascension and The Cage got their releases but not Lockout.
I pre-ordered Halo 2 way back in the day, but I only got the normal edition where the Arbiter is only mentioned once in the end credits in the manual. (Rampant Speculation Ahead) Could be that some of the manuals printed for the special edition which the manual was set in the Covenant's perspective might have the Arbiter listed as Dervish.
Some Halo Legends music tracks could be considered as lost media since they can’t be found anywhere. I mean, the Arbiter’s fight music in The Duel and the track that plays when Cortana explains the consequences of the Halo array in Origins are some examples of that.

Ikr, couldn’t of have timed it any better. 343 is making multiple good strides for the master chief collection, ..well expect for the micro transactions idea, but the forge modding and extra assets, along with flood firefight for halo 3 odst, and return of removed weapons, along with the free armor and camos and now this is coming.
I used Wayback machine to go back to Halocharts and actually found screenshots that were saved when I was logged in. It brought back a LOT of great memories from the Halo 3 days.
I have a CE promo disc from the Xbox Magazine (the one uploaded on my old channel with the storyboards as the thumbnail, if you've seen it). I've never seen the politician commercial, and seeing "Game of the Year" makes me think it must've been released in 2002 while the one I have was before launch. But I'll take another look anyway
When I think "lost media" I normally think of media once available to the public no longer accessible, not developer-only inaccessible pieces of development like most in this video In terms of accessible media conservation, I think the Halo community has done a pretty good job at archiving. It's just we don't have all developer-revealed exclusive content.
Regarding the marcus letho builds, he said that most of those builds are working and can be used on modern hardware. He wants to release them all. Last I remember he said that he was in talks/works with 343 to release them. But I doubt Microsoft will allow him to do that

There were a bunch of machinimas me and my friend loved back when we were in school and they were all lost when Machinima went down. Fucking sucks man. Unless the original creators appear again to reupload them (if they even still own local copies), those machinimas are forever lost.

Well, given that the Goldeneye XBLA remastered game and Duke Nukem Forever 2001 build got leaked to the public, we could see a potential leak of the Halo 2 E3 build in the not too distant future. So I would recommend keeping an eye out on 4chan to see such a leak.

There's a video that I'm almost 100% sure I'll never see again, it's been decades, pre-halo 3 I think. I'm wondering if there's anyone who remembers it though because I found it weirdly haunting at the time. I was pretty young. It was a halo 2 machinima that I think used the cairo station levels. I can't remember if it was some sort of alternate dark telling of halo 2's story or if it was its own thing. I'm not even sure if it was set in the halo universe, but the protagonist was named Jack and it seemed like he'd been made to kill the marines for some reason. Either self defense or something but it seemed like he was openly traumatized by it, taking a moment to sob as a voice called out to him and referred to him as "Jack" and spoke to him. Something I think only he heard. I think there was a skull floating in the void or something as well. The tone was pretty dark, kind of made me uncomfortable at the time so I didn't watch much of it but I'd like to see it again. The only other thing I can remember about it is that I'm pretty sure it used the song "9 crimes" by Damien Rice & Lisa Hannigan
Bungies concept art of what would become the prometheans looks like a straight rip off of the Geth lol. I doubt Bungie would have used this as the final product but I’m glad 343 tried for something at least a little more unique

Pretty sure, I remember in 2016 seeing in a video or reading somewhere (I don't remember) that 343 once said that there's was a Forge World prepared for Halo 5 but they never released it, saying that maybe they release it when they're done with the DLC for Halo 5 but it was so little the possibility of releasing it.
There's at least one halo-community content that is lost to time. But only because it was a side-scrolling single-player vs. bot ctf flash game. It's lost cause it ran on flash. At least lost on Chrome, I don't know if other browsers ditched flash support like Chrome did.

There are a ton of flash games that were archived before flash was unsupported, I recommend checking out the archives/databases to see if it’s on there!
I'm sure this is common knowledge but in the halo 3 manual, it us stated that 117 is the last spartan II but 343 just said nah, or they didn't read the halo 3 manual
That was just marketing on Bungie’s part. Bungie had internal conflicts about the direction of the series such as not having a clear direction on the Forerunners. 343 just came in and established a clear direction. Lore fans from what I’ve seen really appreciate and like what 343 has done. They shouldn’t just retcon the books that flesh out the universe and borrow elements from them when convenient.

Even Reach was going to closely follow the book originally, but they change direction.
Man I’ve always wanted to try out those earlier, unreleased builds of Halo like the original RTS version and the Halo 2 E3 demo. There’s something about those unrefined, work in progress, primordial versions that fascinates me. It’s almost like seeing Halo but in a dream state, half remembered and mixed with other ideas. It’s kinda surreal seeing a game in a conceptual state like that. I get the same feeling when I see the earlier alpha versions of Minecraft.
There was a demo for halo combat evolved on the site filefront that only let you access the silent cartographer and the map blood gultch on multiplayer and had a shit ton of modded blood gultch maps, at the end of the silent cartographer SP mission is plays an ad for the game when captain keys talks about a can of woopass

15:05 I remember back when the Reach ViDoc came out a lot of people were thinking that Lockout would be part of the multiplayer maps, however when they unveiled The Cage Multiplayer Preview they said that it is the original version of Lockout that was supposed to be in Halo CE. I don't think a lot of people saw this though, since I remember seeing a lot of forums wanting Lockout, even though it seemed pretty clear it wasn't going to be there. Also, I'm pretty sure in the same video its stated that Chris Carney made the Cage in just one day. Because of that it seems that a complete build of Lockout on Halo Reach maybe does exist somewhere still, since the map shown in the ViDoc could be a different build entirely, or just an earlier idea before they went all in on the "swan song" and Halo CE references.
I still have a demo disk for the original xbox with the E3 tech demo on it. Pretty sure I got it from a magazine but it was a pretty fun play through. The way people talk about it I'm surprised how rare is seams since I just got it on a disk.
I suggest you ask someone how do a backup of the disc, as its says is very rare, so even if you don't intend to share it, is a good idea to do a backup so it's not lost

I have a day 1 release copy of H2 with the "Do not sell before 11/09/04" sticker still on the top. By release it seems they had already everything to remove any existence of Dervish. In fact, there is absolutely no indication that you ever will play as any character besides Master Chief after going through the manual and case art. I'm guessing at that point they decided the Arbiter story line would be a surprise. The closest piece of info I can find is the energy sword description mentioning high ranking Elites and the actual Elite description referencing ranks.

On the topic of halo mysteries, a little bit back I got really curious as to why specifically in Halo 2 they made Hunters completely immune to any melee, as you mentioned in your LASO video I think? I tried the awe inspiringly amazing resource that is Reddit and got no answers but definitely a good number of equally curious people who hadn't even realised it themselves but were still interested to know why. I wondered if along your many adventures you'd ever come across anyone who might have any insight, or if you yourselves might be able to provide an educated guess as to why they made this change, as I always felt as a kid - and my friends agreed at the time - that being able to solo a pair of hunters with just the butt of your gun, while dancing a merry jig around them, was a pretty skillful thing to pull off. Obviously by today's standards that's just basic AI manipulation and reading their moves, so the fact they kinda just went "Ya know what? We don't like you doing that, so have some immune instead" feels baffling. Anyway, I came here hoping that you might see this and at least maybe be able to point me toward someone who might have an answer, as it was stranger that it was never alluded to in game either, it just sort of happened. Which makes me think it may have been just a bug that was never picked up, but I'm sure they're melee-able in other games, though not all halo games after 2, I'll have to do some testing as my memory is somewhat leaky haha. there's no reason for the dervish manuals to be in retail copies. print copies would be done well ahead of the cd manufacturing once the story and multiplayer features are locked in. they had it done probably 2-3 months before the copies of the games were written to xbox discs, then microsoft's legal team contacted them, so they would have had to do another graphic design pass to correct it and order another print run for new manuals to send to the retail packaging factories, while the originals were sent back to microsoft for disposal or archiving.
"May" being the keyword. And all this is why some people want time travel to be a real concept... that way, we'll just send in expeditions so to get these pieces of history, mostly via undercover connections. Heck, our future chrono expeditions might even be the very reason why all these are lost in the present day.

I'm not sure that I'd count unfinished builds, tests, canceled projects and stuff like that to be 'lost media'. It's not a lost media if someone writing for a TV show decides to scrap a script idea, or if a movie scene has alternate takes. The websites and machinimas I will grant though.

Some Halo Legends music tracks could be considered as lost media since they can’t be found anywhere. I mean, the Arbiter’s fight music in The Duel and the track that plays when Cortana explains the consequences of the Halo array in Origins are some examples of that.

343 is making multiple good strides for the master chief collection, ..well expect for the micro transactions idea, but the forge modding and extra assets, along with flood firefight for halo 3 odst, and return of removed weapons, along with the free armor and camos and now this is coming.
I used Wayback machine to go back to Halocharts and actually found screenshots that were saved when I was logged in. It brought back a LOT of great memories from the Halo 3 days.

I have a CE promo disc from the Xbox Magazine (the one uploaded on my old channel with the storyboards as the thumbnail, if you've seen it). I've never seen the politician commercial, and seeing "Game of the Year" makes me think it must've been released in 2002 while the one I have was before launch. But I'll take another look anyway

When I think "lost media" I normally think of media once available to the public no longer accessible, not developer-only inaccessible pieces of development like most in this video
In terms of accessible media conservation, I think the Halo community has done a pretty good job at archiving. It's just we don't have all developer-revealed exclusive content.
Regarding the marcus letho builds, he said that most of those builds are working and can be used on modern hardware. He wants to release them all. Last I remember he said that he was in talks/works with 343 to release them. But I doubt Microsoft will allow him to do that

I remember having I think the Jet Set Radio/Sega GT 2002 disk for the xbox. Then watching the Halo 2 gameplay trailer. FOR THE LONGEST TIME MY DUMB ASS THOUGHT I WAS PLAYING THE LEVEL AS A CHILD. IT WAS JUST TOO AWESOME FOR ME TO THINK ANYTHING ELSE AT THE TIME.

There's a video that I'm almost 100% sure I'll never see again, it's been decades, pre-halo 3 I think. I'm wondering if there's anyone who remembers it though because I found it weirdly haunting at the time. I was pretty young.
It was a halo 2 machinima that I think used the cairo station levels. I can't remember if it was some sort of alternate dark telling of halo 2's story or if it was its own thing. I'm not even sure if it was set in the halo universe, but the protagonist was named Jack and it seemed like he'd been made to kill the marines for some reason. Either self defense or something but it seemed like he was openly traumatized by it, taking a moment to sob as a voice called out to him and referred to him as "Jack" and spoke to him. Something I think only he heard. I think there was a skull floating in the void or something as well. The tone was pretty dark, kind of made me uncomfortable at the time so I didn't watch much of it but I'd like to see it again.
The only other thing I can remember about it is that I'm pretty sure it used the song "9 crimes" by Damien Rice & Lisa Hannigan

The builds on those old dev Xboxes need to be preserved in someway because OG Xboxes are super prone to hardware failure and the next time someone goes to use them, they might just be giant green paperweights. Least they could do is make an MCC edition for Halo 2's 20 anniversary.

Pretty sure, I remember in 2016 seeing in a video or reading somewhere (I don't remember) that 343 once said that there's was a Forge World prepared for Halo 5 but they never released it, saying that maybe they release it when they're done with the DLC for Halo 5 but it was so little the possibility of releasing it.
There's at least one halo-community content that is lost to time. But only because it was a side-scrolling single-player vs. bot ctf flash game. It's lost cause it ran on flash. At least lost on Chrome, I don't know if other browsers ditched flash support like Chrome did.

Well to be fair, Bungie did a pretty bad job of retconning their own lore. For example, Halo Reach. It really messed up the already existing lore.

Bungie never cared about the books
That was just marketing on Bungie’s part. Bungie had internal conflicts about the direction of the series such as not having a clear direction on the Forerunners. 343 just came in and established a clear direction. Lore fans from what I’ve seen really appreciate and like what 343 has done. They shouldn’t just retcon the books that flesh out the universe and borrow elements from them when convenient.
@@sneedclavehere8918 Interesting because they used the books to establish ODSTs and the background for Chief such as the Halo 3 easter egg with the grunt, what happened between Halo CE and 2, and again before Halo 3. Even Reach was going to closely follow the book originally, but they change direction.

Man I’ve always wanted to try out those earlier, unreleased builds of Halo like the original RTS version and the Halo 2 E3 demo. There’s something about those unrefined, work in progress, primordial versions that fascinates me. It’s almost like seeing Halo but in a dream state, half remembered and mixed with other ideas. It’s kinda surreal seeing a game in a conceptual state like that. I get the same feeling when I see the earlier alpha versions of Minecraft.

15:05 I remember back when the Reach ViDoc came out a lot of people were thinking that Lockout would be part of the multiplayer maps, however when they unveiled The Cage Multiplayer Preview they said that it is the original version of Lockout that was supposed to be in Halo CE. I don't think a lot of people saw this though, since I remember seeing a lot of forums wanting Lockout, even though it seemed pretty clear it wasn't going to be there.
Also, I'm pretty sure in the same video its stated that Chris Carney made the Cage in just one day. Because of that it seems that a complete build of Lockout on Halo Reach maybe does exist somewhere still, since the map shown in the ViDoc could be a different build entirely, or just an earlier idea before they went all in on the "swan song" and Halo CE references.

I still have a demo disk for the original xbox with the E3 tech demo on it. Pretty sure I got it from a magazine but it was a pretty fun play through. The way people talk about it I'm surprised how rare is seams since I just got it on a disk.
I suggest you ask someone how do a backup of the disc, as its says is very rare, so even if you don't intend to share it, is a good idea to do a backup so it's not lost

That Halo 2 EA demo. I wanted that single shot rifle, I loved how it sounded. Was sad to see it wasn't in the main game.
It is readily available online (the single shot BR) , it is also pretty easy to mod into the game on its own anyway.

I have a day 1 release copy of H2 with the "Do not sell before 11/09/04" sticker still on the top. By release it seems they had already everything to remove any existence of Dervish. In fact, there is absolutely no indication that you ever will play as any character besides Master Chief after going through the manual and case art. I'm guessing at that point they decided the Arbiter story line would be a surprise. The closest piece of info I can find is the energy sword description mentioning high ranking Elites and the actual Elite description referencing ranks.

On the topic of halo mysteries, a little bit back I got really curious as to why specifically in Halo 2 they made Hunters completely immune to any melee, as you mentioned in your LASO video I think?
I tried the awe inspiringly amazing resource that is Reddit and got no answers but definitely a good number of equally curious people who hadn't even realised it themselves but were still interested to know why.
I wondered if along your many adventures you'd ever come across anyone who might have any insight, or if you yourselves might be able to provide an educated guess as to why they made this change, as I always felt as a kid - and my friends agreed at the time - that being able to solo a pair of hunters with just the butt of your gun, while dancing a merry jig around them, was a pretty skillful thing to pull off.
Obviously by today's standards that's just basic AI manipulation and reading their moves, so the fact they kinda just went "Ya know what? We don't like you doing that, so have some immune instead" feels baffling.
Anyway, I came here hoping that you might see this and at least maybe be able to point me toward someone who might have an answer, as it was stranger that it was never alluded to in game either, it just sort of happened. Which makes me think it may have been just a bug that was never picked up, but I'm sure they're melee-able in other games, though not all halo games after 2, I'll have to do some testing as my memory is somewhat leaky haha.

I swear I saw some trailer once for something, maybe it was to do with Reach, it had humans falling from skyscrapers (I think live action, so CG but not in the animated Halo style) that I have never found again
there's no reason for the dervish manuals to be in retail copies. print copies would be done well ahead of the cd manufacturing once the story and multiplayer features are locked in. they had it done probably 2-3 months before the copies of the games were written to xbox discs, then microsoft's legal team contacted them, so they would have had to do another graphic design pass to correct it and order another print run for new manuals to send to the retail packaging factories, while the originals were sent back to microsoft for disposal or archiving.
"May" being the keyword.
And all this is why some people want time travel to be a real concept... that way, we'll just send in expeditions so to get these pieces of history, mostly via undercover connections. Heck, our future chrono expeditions might even be the very reason why all these are lost in the present day.
