They are both, most likely, my favorite gaming TH-camrs who are on the lesser known side of things. They aren't some million+ subs. Even though I am sure they will both get there sometime soon. I can't be the only one who wants to see this game remastered, because there's definitely potential, it just needs some extra fine-tuning. But I guess for now everyone could settle for competitive kung-foot for rayman e-sports
Both this and Rayman 2 need a modern remaster that combines the unique elements from the separate ports into one package. There's no ideal way to play either of these titles, and that kinda sucks. It's a far more valuable use of resources than pouring a literal BILLION DOLLARS into the next Grand Theft Auto - Grand Theft Auto, indeed. There's some kinda robbery going on there!

I played Rayman 2 on the Ps1 and I had no idea till now it was missing stuff. Does the DS version have all the levels? I know that version sucks but it's the only other version of the game I've played.
TheLonelyGoomba Yeah, only the PS1 version is really lacking, but Rayman 2 on 3DS (maybe also the old iOS version) has an issue, basically the cobweb you need to jump on to get to the secret 1000th Lum isn’t bouncy. So it’s impossible to 100% it. I’m pretty certain Nitro Rad highlights it in his Rayman 2 review. The “best” version and the version the original creator considers definitive is the Dreamcast version, it runs at 640x480@60fps. All other versions run at 30fps. And weirdly the the PS2 version has voice acting like the PS1 version, but it’s just way better.
I have never heard the words “eat my entire ass” uttered in such a calculated and perfectly measured fashion. Amazing video, by the way. I’ll never get enough out of Rayman, and I personally can’t wait for the eventual videos about Origins and Legends.
The fact that there are so many differences between the PS2 version and the GameCube version is already interesting enough, but there are also a few differences between the original Rayman M and the American Rayman Arena. Only the PS2 version (and a PC port) and Rayman Rush were released in Europe, so we never got the GameCube version of the game. However, the American PS2 version also has a few small updates over the European version. Mostly in the racing mode of the game. AntDude mentioned you can fire Ice Bullets in the standard racing mode in the PS2 version, but this wasn't possible in the European PS2 version. Just like in the GameCube version, you can only fire projectiles to activate switches or hit obstacles. Music is also handled differently in the European version. Nitro Rad mentioned that the theme song of the character in first will play in the background. In the European version (at least in single player) the theme of the character who you are controlling will play without interruptions. Each theme song gets more instruments over time and by the final lap , every character's theme sound absolutely fantastic. When the PC version was released in America, a LAN mode was added to the game, but this was absent in the European PC version. One more thing. While I agree that the GameCube version is generally an improvement over the PS2 version, one thing I do like better about the PS2 version is that standard races in single player are always played against 3 CPUs. The GameCube version usually pits the player against a single CPU player or sometimes 2 CPUs and I personally don't find that as exciting. There are more small differences between the PS2 and GameCube version, but this mostly covers it.
In Rayman M you could still play time attack against friends while the singleplayer campaign featured popolopoi and lums which in my opinion are way better for singleplayer than time attack. I also like the Rayman M/PS2 menu/interface way better. And in Rayman M you still have the bonus race levels in the virtual space as well as the tower battle map and even a time trial level where you have to beat all races in a row.
You know given Tonic Trouble will probably never get a sequel, I'd be fine with them retconning it into being in the Rayman universe and just have Ed be a Rayman character.

It's funny, as a kid I always thought this was the first Rayman game, even though it had a vastly different gameplay style from two or three. What made this even worse, is that I had even played Rayman 1 before I got this game, but I still thought this was where Rayman started. I was an idiot kid.
It was yeeeaaars later till I found out that Rayman 2 had a better version... as a kid (at the time less internet info) I feel that happened a lot back then.
Personally, I find the PS2 version's UI/HUD to be more ascetically fitting, with its rusty metal machinery look (like most of Razorbeard's contraptions), the ones in the ports to me are just flat shaded and dull. Also, where's Brady at? A cameo of his would've been more fitting for a multiplayer game.
The AVGN/Nostalgia Critic feud was funny at times, but it was way too forced. This just feels natural. A lot of passive aggressive banter and a calm demeanor makes it hilarious.
Even then, while a lot of the deleted content were some pretty fun parts in the original game, there were quite a few that were just tedious, even more the chair level, that one was so tedious. Not only that but the ps1 had it's own exclusive stuff like the Ninjaw fights which were pretty fun, some extra dialogue, a completely different final boss and the extra game at the ending. I feel like he craps too much on the ps1 version, well so does everybody, it's a fun version for a second playthrough.
@@crogurk8459 Ninjaws really was the only noteworthy addition in my opinion, as well as some plot points explaining why the second guardian helps you instead of trying to kill you like the others did. Wasn't worth removing half the game for that and bad voice acting though.
@@HardCorePoration Wouldn't say bad voice acting, it wasn't special but it was passable, but true, though again I do think as a second playthrough version of sorts it's neat, you better off playing either the pc, ps2 or dreamcast versions first. Still honestly if by some miracle we do get a rayman 2 remake, I do wish they kinda brought some stuff from it like the ninjaws, guardian interactions and maybe a extra part of the final boss based on the one in the ps1, always found the original final boss a bit lame. But Ubisoft doesnt care about Rayman so that won't happen anytime soon sadly. :/

18:20, I’m gonna stop you right there, there are plenty of mechanics as is that aren’t conveyed that normal players will never do without looking to maximize speed potential. There are hover cancels, double boosts, jump climbing, fast ledge grabs, surf jumps, short hopping, hover landing manipulation, land roll differences between characters that vary in animation length, speed, and duration, and long shot hoop swings that can cut entire sections if landed properly. To assume the skill ceiling is low is like assuming the earth doesn’t have gold because it hasn’t been unearthed. That said the battle mode is restricted due to being timer based instead of score rules, but still largely incorporates many of the movement mechanics available from race mode.
I also bought it as a kid, and.... I questioned whether it was my best purchase or not, but I actually did end up playing it a TON. I must note that this game has some of the BEST music ever. Each character has their own, kick-ass track and the tracks have 4 versions which all play depending on which lap of the race you are on, picking up or lowering tempo, it was a game along with Jak II that made me love dynamic soundtracks. By the way, the bonus race tracks were also in Rayman M (PAL) version, too.
You don't need to imagine, as we got you covered! That being said, adding entire new maps is not possible at the moment, but it's definitely something we want for the future of the game!
For some reason, Antdude and Nitro Rad kind of remind me of Odd Della Robbia and Ulrich Stern from "Code Lyoko." Both in terms of their appearance, and attitude. Nitro Rad has blond hair and a purple hoodie just like Odd, and Antdude has dark hair, just like Ulrich. It only makes sense.
I grew up with Rayman Arena on PS2. My brother and I recently got Rayman 2 Revolution when we were kids, and on my brother's birthday, he was allowed to get a game as a present, and he came home with Rayman Arena. The amount of fun we had with this game was just insane, we absolutely loved this game. Today we sometimes play it on PS3 for old time's sake as a PS2 classic in the PS Store
I remember growing up with the PS1 version, me and my brother used to play the shit out of this and we love the silly Ps1/2 intro, it pretty much sums up what me, my brother and my friends used to do to eachother in the game

When I was 7 I got the ps2 10th anniversary rayman 3 game bundle I think fir Christmas and one of the best game collections I could have got! Rayman revolution, Rayman M and Rayman 3. All game that deserve a hd collection on switch.
18:21 Can't speak to whether the other versions have this, but in Arena on the Gamecube, if you press the Y button right after landing from a jump, you get a small boost. And when you run over a dash panel you can mash the Y button to make it last longer. It's a technique I don't remember the game ever teaching and it's damn near necessary if you want to comfortably beat the races at higher difficulties.
We couldn't afford a Gamecube so I grew up with the PS2 Version and I honestly liked it. I do wish the updated Rayman M/Arena got re-released on PS2, they could have named it Rayman Arena 2/M 2 or Rayman M/Arena Remastered, something like that.
I actually ended up having Rayman M when I was kid I recall it fairly fondly. Never had an issue with it graphically however, even looking back. Some things look a little more bland granted, but it's not exactly BAD
I played it on the PC, and I had this bootleg gamepad with like 17 buttons on it, I was so excited to plug it in though as it was my first PC game I ever played with a controller.. have some really good memories of it
I just found my old PC copy (which wasn't even mentioned) yesterday, so good timing. I kinda disagree about the menus tho. Dunno if they're more legible on GC, but I don't think they fit with the style of the game and overall feel pretty generic. Except for the standard fonts during gameplay in the OG versions, they don't fit either.

I'm one of the people who grew up with the Ps1 Rayman 2. Just found out it was the lesser version yesterday. Still blown away because I fucking LOVED rayman 2. I also didn't know that other versions didn't have proper English dialogue, which I grew to love over the years. I'm playing through Rayman revolution now and it's definitely a refreshing and neat experience.

God, this game NEEDS a remake! Imagine a bigger roster (characters and levels from Rayman 1, 3, Ravin Rabbids, Origins and Legends), online multiplayer, improved gameplay and mechanics (combat system with Rayman 3 weapons, 2D race stages with Origins/Legends game style); they could even bring a small single player campaign and minigames to make the game even bigger and better.
Haha i remember playing this so much to the point where my right eye got a red vein when i was little, i was scared so i covered it with a toy pirate eyepatch and continued playing haha. This games OST is great.

I remember how I got this game. My older brother played Rayman 2 on the n64 and loved it. We were waiting on Rayman 3 to come out. Then, the day it did, my mom took my younger brother and I to Toys R Us, to buy it and they were all out. They told us that they had Rayman Arena and we bought it because we figured it was good and Rayman 3 would be sold out everywhere else. So many hours of playing with family and friends. We loved it and we were masters at Speed Stress. I don't regret it. We got to play Rayman 3 quite a bit later though.
I wish there were more games in the subgenre of competitive 3D platformers. I never heard of this game, but it reminds me a LOT of Mad Dash Racing for the OG Xbox... wouldn't mind seeing that being covered here. ;)

I really like how Rayman’s design never got edgy or different because reasons any major change was mostly slightly different shaped shoes and his bandana getting turned into a hoodie. And other outfits are more so played up as a goof vs being a replacement for his design.

Used to hold the WR now second place, but what you said in the end isnt fully right though haha. in case of speedrunning the game is pretty hard, there is no limit on how fast the boosters can get you, meaning the faster you mash, the faster you go, and with a lot of glitched (what I assume no casual used since you have to go over the finnish line in a specific way since they forgot to make the checkpoints must go through) it makes up for a good run ! though I get the point of a casual level, since ngl if you just play with friends it's easy to pick up. Anyway great video, glad to see someone still cares about our limbless guy
I also remember being hyped when I saw a new Rayman and how disapointed I was. Also I'm from the EU and we only have a PC and PS2 version. So I never got to experience that, also the race that introduces you to Razorwife on the PC was in my memory so HARD. I remember running the parkour flawlessly and razorwife being 1 lap adhead of me every single time!
What I find interesting is that when the game was a PS2 exclusive, it was also a Europe exlusive; that version was released in November 2001 in Europe, but wasn't released until September 27 2002 in North America, the same day the Gamecube and Xbox versions were released. I guess they wanted to work on it some more for that release and release it on the other platforms, but oddly enough, those versions weren't released in Europe, and it stayed a PS2 exclusive (save for a PC version), which I believe is a pretty large contributor to the PS2 version selling far more, half of the game's market only got this version after all (it seems that the game was never released in Asian markets), though it could just be that the PS2 was the most popular out of all of the sixth gen consoles by far.
I had RayMan Rush on PS1 for the longest time, and I had no idea that it was just a simplified version of RayMan M/Arena with only racing. Watching this absolutely blew my mind.

Actually, you are able to keep your momentum from jumping. Press Y/Triangle when you land on the ground to do a dodge roll, which will speed you up for a second.

In Ps2 version, we can add bots in multiplayer (if we are 2 players we can add 0,1,or 2 bots). Also, in the Gamecube version we can't..

19:50 Rayman 2 is such a good game that even with half missing it's worthy of being a GOAT. That is a massive flex
Even then, while a lot of the deleted content were some pretty fun parts in the original game, there were quite a few that were just tedious, even more the chair level, that one was so tedious. Not only that but the ps1 had it's own exclusive stuff like the Ninjaw fights which were pretty fun, some extra dialogue, a completely different final boss and the extra game at the ending.
I feel like he craps too much on the ps1 version, well so does everybody, it's a fun version for a second playthrough.
@@crogurk8459 Ninjaws really was the only noteworthy addition in my opinion, as well as some plot points explaining why the second guardian helps you instead of trying to kill you like the others did. Wasn't worth removing half the game for that and bad voice acting though.
@@HardCorePoration Wouldn't say bad voice acting, it wasn't special but it was passable, but true, though again I do think as a second playthrough version of sorts it's neat, you better off playing either the pc, ps2 or dreamcast versions first.
Still honestly if by some miracle we do get a rayman 2 remake, I do wish they kinda brought some stuff from it like the ninjaws, guardian interactions and maybe a extra part of the final boss based on the one in the ps1, always found the original final boss a bit lame. But Ubisoft doesnt care about Rayman so that won't happen anytime soon sadly. :/

A remake of the original trilogy is our best bet for now... or well when Ancel is done with Beyond good and evil 2

18:20, I’m gonna stop you right there, there are plenty of mechanics as is that aren’t conveyed that normal players will never do without looking to maximize speed potential. There are hover cancels, double boosts, jump climbing, fast ledge grabs, surf jumps, short hopping, hover landing manipulation, land roll differences between characters that vary in animation length, speed, and duration, and long shot hoop swings that can cut entire sections if landed properly. To assume the skill ceiling is low is like assuming the earth doesn’t have gold because it hasn’t been unearthed. That said the battle mode is restricted due to being timer based instead of score rules, but still largely incorporates many of the movement mechanics available from race mode.
Double boosts? I also never noticed the animation time/speed difference of rolls in races. Interesting
I also bought it as a kid, and.... I questioned whether it was my best purchase or not, but I actually did end up playing it a TON. I must note that this game has some of the BEST music ever. Each character has their own, kick-ass track and the tracks have 4 versions which all play depending on which lap of the race you are on, picking up or lowering tempo, it was a game along with Jak II that made me love dynamic soundtracks. By the way, the bonus race tracks were also in Rayman M (PAL) version, too.
Just imagine this game remade for current systems, with many more maps, skins and online multiplayer.
You don't need to imagine, as we got you covered! That being said, adding entire new maps is not possible at the moment, but it's definitely something we want for the future of the game!

For some reason, Antdude and Nitro Rad kind of remind me of Odd Della Robbia and Ulrich Stern from "Code Lyoko." Both in terms of their appearance, and attitude.

My brother and I recently got Rayman 2 Revolution when we were kids, and on my brother's birthday, he was allowed to get a game as a present, and he came home with Rayman Arena. The amount of fun we had with this game was just insane, we absolutely loved this game. Today we sometimes play it on PS3 for old time's sake as a PS2 classic in the PS Store

When I was 7 I got the ps2 10th anniversary rayman 3 game bundle I think fir Christmas and one of the best game collections I could have got! Rayman revolution, Rayman M and Rayman 3. All game that deserve a hd collection on switch.
18:21 Can't speak to whether the other versions have this, but in Arena on the Gamecube, if you press the Y button right after landing from a jump, you get a small boost. And when you run over a dash panel you can mash the Y button to make it last longer. It's a technique I don't remember the game ever teaching and it's damn near necessary if you want to comfortably beat the races at higher difficulties.
I never knew that trick, it’s no wonder it took me so long to beat this game! I had to be absolutely perfect!

We couldn't afford a Gamecube so I grew up with the PS2 Version and I honestly liked it. I do wish the updated Rayman M/Arena got re-released on PS2, they could have named it Rayman Arena 2/M 2 or Rayman M/Arena Remastered, something like that.

I kinda disagree about the menus tho. Dunno if they're more legible on GC, but I don't think they fit with the style of the game and overall feel pretty generic. Except for the standard fonts during gameplay in the OG versions, they don't fit either.

@@FireballFlame Sadly there aren't any real differences between the ps2 and pc version, well except for one in the american pc version. It has Lan mode, which you can probably play online using programs like Hamachi.

I'm one of the people who grew up with the Ps1 Rayman 2. Just found out it was the lesser version yesterday. Still blown away because I fucking LOVED rayman 2.
I also didn't know that other versions didn't have proper English dialogue, which I grew to love over the years. I'm playing through Rayman revolution now and it's definitely a refreshing and neat experience.

God, this game NEEDS a remake! Imagine a bigger roster (characters and levels from Rayman 1, 3, Ravin Rabbids, Origins and Legends), online multiplayer, improved gameplay and mechanics (combat system with Rayman 3 weapons, 2D race stages with Origins/Legends game style); they could even bring a small single player campaign and minigames to make the game even bigger and better.

I remember how I got this game. My older brother played Rayman 2 on the n64 and loved it. We were waiting on Rayman 3 to come out. Then, the day it did, my mom took my younger brother and I to Toys R Us, to buy it and they were all out. They told us that they had Rayman Arena and we bought it because we figured it was good and Rayman 3 would be sold out everywhere else.
So many hours of playing with family and friends. We loved it and we were masters at Speed Stress. I don't regret it. We got to play Rayman 3 quite a bit later though.
I wish there were more games in the subgenre of competitive 3D platformers. I never heard of this game, but it reminds me a LOT of Mad Dash Racing for the OG Xbox... wouldn't mind seeing that being covered here. ;)

I really like how Rayman’s design never got edgy or different because reasons any major change was mostly slightly different shaped shoes and his bandana getting turned into a hoodie. And other outfits are more so played up as a goof vs being a replacement for his design.
@NitroRad Hey there! I'm A rayman M speedrunner for the PS2 version, Also known as AuraAmile. Used to hold the WR now second place, but what you said in the end isnt fully right though haha. in case of speedrunning the game is pretty hard, there is no limit on how fast the boosters can get you, meaning the faster you mash, the faster you go, and with a lot of glitched (what I assume no casual used since you have to go over the finnish line in a specific way since they forgot to make the checkpoints must go through) it makes up for a good run ! though I get the point of a casual level, since ngl if you just play with friends it's easy to pick up. Anyway great video, glad to see someone still cares about our limbless guy
WRs keep getting improved, there's always room to get faster and faster in this game. The amount of optimisation that can be done is almost limitless
I also remember being hyped when I saw a new Rayman and how disapointed I was. Also I'm from the EU and we only have a PC and PS2 version. So I never got to experience that, also the race that introduces you to Razorwife on the PC was in my memory so HARD. I remember running the parkour flawlessly and razorwife being 1 lap adhead of me every single time!

What I find interesting is that when the game was a PS2 exclusive, it was also a Europe exlusive; that version was released in November 2001 in Europe, but wasn't released until September 27 2002 in North America, the same day the Gamecube and Xbox versions were released. I guess they wanted to work on it some more for that release and release it on the other platforms, but oddly enough, those versions weren't released in Europe, and it stayed a PS2 exclusive (save for a PC version), which I believe is a pretty large contributor to the PS2 version selling far more, half of the game's market only got this version after all (it seems that the game was never released in Asian markets), though it could just be that the PS2 was the most popular out of all of the sixth gen consoles by far.
