  • This animation quickly goes through 10 different surgical techniques to treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA):
    1) T&A (0:07)
    2) UPPP (0:42)
    3) Modified UPPP (1:10)
    4) Expansion Sphincter Pharyngoplasty (1:42)
    5) Lateral Pharyngoplasty (2:18)
    6) Lingual Tonsillectomy (2:48)
    7) Midline Partial Glossectomy (3:03)
    8) Submucosal Base of Tongue Reduction (3:25)
    9) Thyrohyoid Approximation (3:45)
    10) INSPIRE device (4:06).
There are many different surgeries to treat OSA given the many different anatomies and causes for sleep apnea in different patients. Not uncommonly, more than one surgery (multi-level surgery) may be required to fully resolve OSA in a given patient.
Keep in mind that there are many more surgical approaches to treat OSA not covered in this video including mandibular-maxillary advancement, other types of hyoid advancement procedures, tracheostomy, etc.

12 years is still young. she can be fixed before it is too late. the real cause of of sleep apnea is a recessed jaw. is she a mouth breather? does her mouth/lips remain open at rest? her jaws need to be moved forward. at 12 years old this can be fixed non surgically. please see a maxillofacial surgeon for their thoughts. there is something called a Herbst appliance which can help to bring the jaws forward. not only do forward grown jaws prevent sleep apnea, they are also the most important thing about facial aesthetics. look up “ante face” to see what i mean. please help your daughter before it’s too late. i myself didn’t know any of this when i was younger and now i’m permanently fucked

@@onlinemaza4241 get a sleep study from your General Practitioner and see an Ear Nose Throat (ENT) Spiritualist.
      1. Technology has improved to where sleep study kits can be sent to you directly. This means no going to a clinic for a sleep study. This is how my doctor conclusively determined I have sleep apnea.
      2. I was sent a CPAP for sleep apnea, but even then I was not getting as much relief as I thought. I went to an ENT that determined my tonsils blocked my airway and nasal passages that outpatient tonsillectomy was b performed.
I'm 15 days post-surgery, and my general wellbeing has significantly improved because I can actually breathe through my nose again.
This is by no means advice. I'm not a medical expert. I'm only telling you my experience and journey!!

I had the soft pallet reduction procedure for sleep apnea. No Benefit whatsoever. With sleep apnea just my opinion, don’t do any of the soft tissue procedures. Your choices, cpap, oral appliance, combo cpap and oral appliance then Inspire. Last resort, jaw surgery.

Had a turbinate reduction with my septoplasty for a deviated septum. It sucks for a week after but highly recommend. Empty nose syndrome is generally caused from direct incision which is the old technique to my understanding . They currently use radio frequency waves to reduce the size.

All these are awful and incredibly stupid. The only surgery you need is MMA with counter clockwise rotation. The Jaws need to be moved forward and rotated up to cure sleep apnea.

    • @fls128
      @fls128 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, it's unbelievable how many different soft tissue surgeries are performed when the core of these problems are very often the bone structure itself.

@@fls128 much bigger more risky surgery though, and likelihood of needing multiple surgeries (to get the best result) and lots of recovery time. It's no joke. This is why CPAP is still king before doing anything else.
