Yeah, you can really feel that American Corporate disease creeping into Sony recently. I haven't been impressed with them at all this gen, it's how I felt about my Xbox One a year after trading in my beloved 360 towards the sale price and the disappointment that followed. Same but PS4 to PS5
I have a broad idea of why Western developers are faltering. It's all because of 3 reasons: the pandemic (and it's associated effects), TikTok/short-form video content, and greed. The pandemic gaming-boom led to overinvestment, which was an extremely short-sighted mistake because gaming fell as lockdown measures lifted. And on top of that, the gaming industry appears to be plateauing, partially because of economic downturns globally, but also because TikTok is now dominating people's leisure time (my personal theory) And secondly, the pandemic led to work-from-home policies. Which I'm a big fan of, but it led to delays because studios had to transition i.e. set up infrastructure to support work-from-home. It also brought about a management challenge, which studios needed time to adjust to. Maintaining team synergy (which for gamedev is vital) during WFH is a challenge, and this was worsened by the increased team sizes from over-investment. And lastly, the gaming industry moneymen have no respect for the art and keep pushing GaaS. Partially in hopes to compensate for pandemic overinvestment and effects it had on industry growth, but mostly because they are greedy. Now I bet if you analyzed Japan, you'd see some sharp contrasts with how they dealt with the pandemic, and also how Japanese execs have at least some respect for videogames
GaaS, DEI and corpo greed also western AAA games have become quite homogeneous, it's like they got this idea that certain types of games or genres *have to* play in a certain way, or that some types of games can just never be profitable. That's why Halo became more like COD, you don't really get CRPGs from big studios (hopefully BG3 has managed to change some perspectives), every game has to include the same progression systems on their open world or multiplayer (such as battle pass), etc.

what PlayStation needs to do for the fans of the souls community give bloodborne to pc or they shouldn't have done demon souls remaster and could have done Bloodborne
Astro Bot represents practically everything I want to see from Playstation: colorful, fun, tightly-polished single player experiences from a giant umbrella of IPs. I want Ape Escape. I want Spyro. I want Legend of Dragoon. Tomba. Metal Gear. Final Fantasy. Sly Cooper. Jak and Daxter. Uncharted. Gravity Rush, etc. They've been so hyper stuck on a tiny selection of IP like Horizon and God of War that its gotten incredibly boring. And shallow. And predictable. There needs to be games for young children. There needs to be games made for 10+ or older. There needs to be games for teens. And there needs to be games for 17+ and older. Sony's been so stuck in the Teen-Mature range that it's like they've forgotten kids deserve high-quality games too. And titles like Spyro, Ape Escape, Ratchet and Clank and more can be both kid-friendly and absolutely blasts to play - for kids _and_ adults.
10+ Live Service Games I believe it was the plan from day one to shutdown most of these developments. Like develop 10 games, and we will only publish 5 of them in example. Remember, Sony it was only said that 10 games are in development, not that all of these are going to release and maintain longterm.
Dude there are people that have been at Insomniac since the PS2 days. Ted is leaving because it’s been decades since he started, people are fear mongering with Insomniac when there’s no reason to. Just because you don’t know there names like you do Ted Price it doesn’t mean they haven’t been there making games for years. Focusing on Yoshida and other higher ups is important and a big warning sign that PlayStations leadership is not the same as it use to be, but the TH-camrs saying Insomniac is dead or dying are full of it.
Herman got a lateral demotion. The Horizon franchise would work better as a premium cable/streaming series or movies. I also think it’s too photorealistic . Sometimes I’m like “Am I watching an episode of The Tribe?” PlayStation isn’t out but there’s a lot we’re not going to get because of the live service push. I think they looked and said Herman is good at his job, but he can’t have power like that. I don’t think they’re done with live service, but I think moving forward they’re the single player studios will be focusing on single player experiences only. That would be like Netflix putting more emphasis on reality lifestyle shows and pushed original scripted content to the side a bit. It would be like if A&E stopped focusing on arts and entertainment…. oh shit wait.
Couldn't agree more about Horizon not being the flagship title of the lineup that they want it to be. The graphics are great, but I can't say the same about the gameplay and story. You're on 🔥lately bruh, keep up the good work!
Sony heading the way of Microsoft if you can sell 4 million copies of the next god of war imagine sharing that game with Nintendo and Xbox that’s 30 mil copies
I went from being very disappointed in Xbox, to then being very disappointed on PlayStation. I’m excited for Nintendo, retro handhelds, Steamdeck, and PC right now. I was pretty happy with PlayStation about 2 years ago, it’s impressive how quickly I’ve fallen out of interest.
With SteamOS becoming open source I am genuinely interested to see if someone can put together a 'console' running it that will end up competing with PS/XBox. Because I use my Steam Deck all of the time. I used my PS5 so little I just sold it.
Personally, there are only a few things that make Horizon stand out the graphics and the concept of an open-world, post-apocalyptic setting where you fight mecha-dinosaurs. I don’t find the characters or story very compelling. Maybe Aloy is the only one with a visually decent design. The writing and voice acting feel off-something about them just doesn’t seem right. But it is a pretty game. Oh, and the melee combat is pretty bad.
I just hope we get new IP story games. I’m tired of live service games!!! I just wish we got Days Gone 2, I don’t know why Sony wouldn’t green light it.
It’s also absolutely batshit insane that horizon forbidden west can sell 8.4 MILLION units and be considered a disappointment. That’s at least 500,000,000$, assuming most were sold at a price point between 50$ and 70$. There’s no chance it lost money, it just didn’t make AS MUCH as the first. Also I really don’t get the hate for horizon. So many people online are nasty about it, especially forbidden west. It’s not some 10 out of 10 masterpiece, but fighting giant robot dinosaurs with slingshots and crossbows is fucking awesome. Every combat encounter is a glorious spectacle of nonsense. I love that game. The story is forgettable. Characters are bland. But the game is great fun.
playstation this generation bruhhh… the shutdown of Japan Studio, no ps5 themes, the heavy push for live service, ps4 game remasters. The many signs of the end times…. I need the weird and humble playstation back.
If you look at a lineup of horizon, last of us, ghost of tsushima, and spiderman. It's the most accessible game in terms of themes and gameplay, aside from Spiderman. And Sony doesn't own Spiderman, so I think that's why horizon gets the push it does.
sony should've just greenlit days gone 2. it would've been better than bend studio not having any games to tease. bluepoint at this point should've been working on an infamous remake. Where's the cool playstation that doesn't try too hard to shill 1-2 franchises?
Man it's just pretty clear that PlayStation really does need to Port games to PC and now pretty soon Nintendo switch 2, because I did not expect such low numbers for these games, yeah there's nine games coming but will those games actually succeed in reaching over 7 million copies maybe Wolverine hopefully it doesn't underperform compared to Spider-Man, but I'm starting to get nervous knowing that PlayStation is not doing as well as I thought.
Hey Matty I'm A fan of your channel you do good work. I'm an Xbox ambassador I even have the badge on my Xbox page to prove it😅becoming an ambassador isn't hard at all anyone can do it and I'm not an employee of Xbox or Microsoft but I had A chat with Phil Spencer on Xbox and he has A vision to save console gaming as A whole! He's already practice it and it's working next generation he's moving forward with it! Exclusives has to go for all console platforms I'm sorry Matty if you look at the numbers all platforms are doing worse than previous generations it's just the truth. The CEO of SIE was re-assigned to head of PlayStation Studios because he couldn't see that the PS5 is failing and it's failing bad compared to the PS4 generation. PS5 Pro sells can't compare to the PS4 Pro. The future is platform unity! We can overcome this bad generation if we work together! P3 agreed!
honestly, I really hope they don't release the multiplayer Horizon game standalone, they should really do it as a package with Horizon part 3 also, no one asked for a multiplayer Horizon game/mode lmao
Sony needed strong successors and we got penny pinchers. Truly is a shame. PS5 will probably be my final PS generation until they get their act together, and with how expensive they've gotten, I'm fully committed to PC gaming now so I probably won't need to get future PlayStations since they're releasing to PC anyway, aside from Nintendo since despite their own issues, have yet to let me down with most of their flagship games.
Spider man 2, Baldurs gate 3, horizon forbidden west, ratchet & clank, returnal, kena, ffvii, ragnarok, elden ring, pentiment, Alan wake 2, Hogwarts legacy… What are you talking about? I swear some people define their identity by being contrarian
I want people to subscribe to PlayStation and Xbox TH-cam channel and put notifications on. Tell me how many Xbox and how many PlayStation games come out within a month and then tell me which company is not releasing enough games
The GAMES are not selling as much but the thing is ps4 games where like 20 to 10 dollars like 6 months after coming out . PS5 games can take like 2 years to hit 40 dollars. So technically they can sell less but bring in more revenue. horizon forbidden west was put on a subscription with killed it sales, not that I am a horizon fan.
From what I read in the negative comments about Returnal on Steam is that the game has crashes and will also try and data mine you. For this reason I decided not to buy it when it was on sale.
The problem is that everbody montetizes there consumer base but themselves....truly a 30% company....now its catching up ..and there aware they dont have the games to keep it afloat....since everyone else plays something else
Imo, nintendo, microsoft, and sony have all made horrible decisions lately, but Microsoft is clearly making the worst out of all of em. Sony is coming in second with all these live service bs, and nintendo is holding out on games and just taking their sweet ass time addressing the future of the switch. Like the communication with its fans is horrendous.
I'm just disappointed that Path of Exile 2 will not sync up the MTX purchased on PC. I know it's all about the money, but it sucks. I prefer Playstation over Xbox, and I don't really want to buy an Xbox Series X just to play a single game on the couch.
Console exclusives are coming to an end and I am happy about that. Toxic fanboys are bad for the industry and while competition is good, fanboyism isn't good. Making more money is good and getting your games on every platform to make the most amount of money is great. This is how it should be. When we all had DVD players, you didn't have to buy certain movies for different DVD players, so why should gaming be any different. Protip: If you want to be wealthy, you solve a big problem that most people on this planet have and it has to be something that most people can afford and most people desire and if you can advertise and tell people about your solution to the big problem and show them the price, they will buy it. The same thing applies to gaming. If you have a video game that is fun for most people in a genre that most people love and it's affordable for most people and is on as many platforms as you can, then you will win. You just have to follow up and get all those people to know about your game. This is why Xbox will ultimately win out. They can have their video game console which sells and also sell their games on all platforms and win either way.
Xbox holding onto exclusives in this position with PS in its current situation wouldn’t of mattered. So what’s a good outcome. You think Xbox is going to outsell the PS5 this gen? Like Phil said people started building their digital library last gen, and no matter what they did they will never catch up to Sony in console sales. So they had to change strategy. Look at all these games they announced and kept those exclusive. You think with their console sales numbers they would sell enough copies of they game to make a profit.
Sony is going Multiplat. The laughable profit the margin they have with PS is not enough, plus the weakening yen. The console war is over. Stop console warring Matty.
PlayStation has WON the “console war”, Xbox has surrendered. They celebrate this victory by lighting a decade of good will and amazing single player games on fire and pissing on the ashes. Such a waste. Where is my next god of war, spiderman, returnal or horizon? Ghost of Yotei is the only big title on the horizon, on top of a sea of live service corpses.
The delusion here? PlayStation is thriving, has several exclusives on the horizon, is getting all of Xbox’s games, is outpacing PS4 in sales…hell it was just announced the PlayStation Portal alone has outsold X/S this year. I get you’re an Xbox fanboy and it’s a hard time for yall but damn what a video title when really it’s Xbox and Phil Spencer making all the braindead decisions leading to wasted potential with that brand. Looking forward to Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, Forza, and Indiana Jones all this year on my PS5 baby we cooking over here!
Playstation will do the same in the next few years. Their games cost too much money, and they need to make more from them. There will be no exclusives in the next five years.
In regards to your last point about Xbox wondering if it would've been better waiting a year to jump on anti Sony sentiment, I think that misses the whole point of what Microsoft wants to do. They don't want to fight to be number 1 in the console market space, cause that means you might be up one generation then down another. They want to be everywhere and everything all at once and have multiple titles reach gta/cod level of fame and monetary success. So I think one way or another they would've eventually ended up multiplat regardless of how success ful they were with the prior exclusives because they look at the numbers, not sentiment, and that's where it leads (unless you're the creative geniuses at nintendo but even that has its risks cough cough wii u)
Is it just me or this video didn't do much to convince me sony had much of interest in the near future? A lot of "what ifs" and "Maybes" and some of them are a looooot of coping. I.E.: Bluepoint is a very small studio, there's very little chance they were working on a big live service AND something else on the side, it's just not logical.
I think Playstation has become to short term goal or profitability. I really hope the Japanese leadership takes the Playstation in the right direction. At least Nintendo focuses more on longer term success and Playstation is my favorite console.
I'm not sure accusing Herman Holst of Favoritism regarding pushing Horizon into a transmedia IP is fair. What other IP does Playstation have in the current era that's big enough, and that lends itself to something that isn't JUST an animated project? Spiderman? They cant get the rights. God of War? Maybe but sad dad is kind of played out at the moment. Rachet and Clank? Perhaps but live action is almost certainly a nogo, and this list isn't for things that only work as animated movies or whatever. Returnal, or Hell Divers, or Destiny? I dont think any of these have either a large enough, or current enough, audience to give it the Marvel Treatment. Seems to me Holst was doing the best he could with what Playstation has for IPs to choose form to start a MCU style Franchisement machine, and you know the marching orders to do so came form a bunch of C-Suite suits who may or may not know jack shit about games or what/which are even popular enough, or SHOULD be turned into something like an MCU.
Seems like the bigger companies are getting a grip of reality finally and what the fans really want give them time to get there house in order YTubers gossip like lil kids
The Live service stuff was looking bad. Behind the scenes, they knew Xbox game were com8ng over (there main competition in the console space). I believe Sony will rely on Xbox games and third party stuff as they fix the crao from Jim Ryan

Sony can do that cause without PS console they will lose a lot of money.
I remember the ps3 days it seemed like almost every month there was a new must have game and studios taking risks
I think Xbox has potential to gain some ground back on PlayStation. They have more exclusives coming out in 2025, and their backwards compatibility portfolio destroys Sony’s.
Too bad no one actually cares about backwards compat. It’s jusy an overtly loud minority just like physical games.
They have zero exclusives.
Xbox is better... no PlayStation is better.... no Xbox is better.... no PlayStation is better.... no Xbox is better.... no PlayStation is better.... no Xbox is better.... no PlayStation is better....
I know this is pre-recorded (as he mentioned it in the last video) but god the comments are gonna be HELL on this given its dropped hours after Xbox announced Forza going to PlayStation
Burger, fries, and shake! (As i said on reddit and you responded to 😂)
Matty as a WWE Fan, mad respect!
what PlayStation needs to do for the fans of the souls community give bloodborne to pc or they shouldn't have done demon souls remaster and could have done Bloodborne
Love the wrestling references man. Horizon is an amazing-looking game, but it is the Lex Luger of videogames.
Playstation is doing great.
10+ Live Service Games
I believe it was the plan from day one to shutdown most of these developments.
Ho provato a ripetere il trucco di questo video e ora ho un nuovo record: tante risate e un piccolo disastro😛
Matty still cant fight the xbox fanboy in him
Does the truth hurt your little ego?.
IS THAT BOMBERMAN HERO I HEAR??!??
Yea, leaving money on the table at that point
Cause that game was the definition of meh
This is the best decision Sony has done
Sega has better relationship with Xbox than PlayStaion.
Forza just got announced for PS5
Oh, my goodness! I am so excited!
Im a huge Horizon fan. I got the platinum in both games. Cant wait for the 3rd. Ill even try out the MMO one they are making.
Judging horizon Lego sales based on steam numbers is a choice.
I’m sure Xbox games will keep them afloat until they sort this out over at Sony HQ
playstation this generation bruhhh… the shutdown of Japan Studio, no ps5 themes, the heavy push for live service, ps4 game remasters. The many signs of the end times….
I need the weird and humble playstation back.
Everything you just said is not exclusive to PlayStation. Xbox does all the same shit. Because why?
Because modern gaming is trash.
P3 agreed!
I thought I saw they canceled the horizon multiplayer game
Sony has been a disaster past 2 years good that they are getting xbox games because they really dont have shit for 2025 either
What a waste of a generation this has been…
honestly, I really hope they don't release the multiplayer Horizon game standalone, they should really do it as a package with Horizon part 3
also, no one asked for a multiplayer Horizon game/mode lmao
Matty you gotta get these videos out faster! We already have Forza on PS5 news to cover! haha
Why don’t you worry about xbox becoming a publisher lol sony is in no trouble at all
"My video game brand is better than your video game brand"
Whatever you say, peasant.
Playstation still trying to decide which game they are going remaster next: God of War 2018 or Days Gone!
Yeah, but The Last of Us is getting another remake first. Priorities, people.
Bro why is Horizon being glazed sm, am I missing something?
This generation feels like filler arcs you get in animes like Naruto or One Piece.
It's boring and bland. Even forgettable(which is worse)
Brother there have been some absolute bangers this generation, what are you talking about?
Spider man 2, Baldurs gate 3, horizon forbidden west, ratchet & clank, returnal, kena, ffvii, ragnarok, elden ring, pentiment, Alan wake 2, Hogwarts legacy…
What are you talking about? I swear some people define their identity by being contrarian
These companies seem to have a hate to love for all consoles. Im too poor for pc.
Every modern game tries to data mine you. Reason 267 why modern gaming is trash.
Retro games on retro machines literally CAN'T data mine you.
The problem is that everbody montetizes there consumer base but themselves....truly a 30% company....now its catching up ..and there aware they dont have the games to keep it afloat....since everyone else plays something else
Hey comment section, stop the cringy console war BS, both companies have had L's and W's recently.
I think playstation got lucky that it took so long for xbox to spool up gamepass and its output.
I will definitely never be a PC player. Even if everything goes digital, I'll just go mobile lol.
I hope that they do more live service games like Helldivers 2.
HAHAHAHA
Arrowhead will do that for next 10 years
I hope every live service flops.
They should have put demon soul remake on Xbox and it would have sold better
Only making games for one console leaves money on the table. Plus PlayStation wants to make money, they'll send their games to Nintendo and Xbox.
Bro speaks like hes about to go to war for sony
Never thought Starfield would be game to force Jim Ryan’s hand out Sony , was the biggest shake up to industry Starfield
Most I’ve heard ya say negative things about PS. Missed the boat when it took off a couple years ago
Ps2
Ps4
Ps1
Ps3
Ps5
These are my orders on the quality of each Playstation generation with the worse being at the bottom(ps5)
