That is one Huge diesel 12 wheel drive look like . My 3 diesels. 8 wheel just gotta repair one. I love the paint scheme. To find some passenger cars. Can be challenging. And costly but remember the pictures I found and sent you common paint you see in 1950s to 1968. There is 2 locomotives that have been saved and 1 PA black and yellow paint scheme . one e9 runs new England railroad Museum. They also have 1 road diesel but I'm glad to see this one to get running . The motor condition looks and sounds like how that chattanooga steamer I bought for $20 like it's brand new. The music sounded very good sounded similar to what i would play on my grandmother's lowrey electronic organ and my keyboard the piano part also it was quite relaxing mellow music.
    which this is AWESOME serenity!

Runs like a champ, Harrison. Did you have any doubts? Even though it would have run if you just soldered the wire back on and pressed the gear back in place, good choice to clean it since you had it apart. Nice, smooth reassembly. You made it look Tyco easy.
    Thanks for sharing. 👍 👍 👍

Two New Haven locomotives and no coaches to pull? Somebody ought to change that. I'd get around to it if I had some to (permanently) spare.
The eighties was quite the time for New Haven cowl locomotives, some brands didn't know one locomotive from another. I think Tyco and IHC have the most accurate representations of the FL9 when all said and done, even though it's an entirely different range of locomotives, they sure got the paint right.

Great job, it really looks like a smooth runner, I had one in a chessie paint years ago that I bought used and the larger plastic gear that meshes with the metal gear that you applied glue to had hardly any teeth on it and would slip and squeal all around the track and was a real problem runner.

Hi SMT - I think Daniel Hauck also recommended lifting the gears from a Power Torque mechanism, by using a flat tool underneath the gears. Tyco with their yellow horns; no matter what railroad the engine was painted for! Perhaps William McGeehan, Crude Caboose, or Matt Ho New Haven could verify this; I recall seeing a photo of a New Haven diesel pulling a train of stainless steel passenger cars. If that is accurate, SMT could pull his Santa Fe passenger cars with the engine!

    • @JBofBrisbane

I've seen black horns on some TYCO locos. The Baldwin Sharknose in BN livery had a double ended horn which was grey.

Old Tyco and Mantua locomotives like this have a tendency to lose connections from the wires to the motor. quite often that is the main/only problem

For a while, B&M E7s would run through to New Haven from White River Junction and return. NH, sent PAs or C liners up on the opposite “side” of the train. I would have loved to see a PA in the classic B&M “minuteman” red and cream/yellow. Oh, we got an idea about a C liner from B&M’s FM P12-42s for their talgo train.

Heres a suggestion. Instead of just wiping off the comutator, just fill up a little bowl with isiprobic alcohol and put the comutator in there and let it soak for awhile. I did that and it made the comutator look new

Like a few people said the NH never had E7s, but they ran third rail commuter trains, and they had engines called FL9s. These engines could pick up power from the Third rail and there was a diesels engine for non third rail trains. Nice job!

Lovely engine, does the other one run well with this? I'd imagine the two of them together would not only look spectacular, but would probably haul a long passenger train very nicely.
I've always loved this particular scheme, as it has a lot of cubist influence, almost taking after the shape defying look of dazzle pattern camouflage.

Three pole... That's a three pole "Pancake" motor. Slow is awesome... by the way, it's at least 30 years old. And the motor is in great condition... perhaps because it hadn't run all those years it was "broke" out of service. Runs better than a PennCentral!
