    Just to add to my thoughts: I am very fortunate to have this channel, your support, and any of these watches. I only want to make this channel better and broaden my horizons. I still have many years of collecting to go. Explaining how I choose to allocate resources is only an element of this channel that causes me to make certain decisions

      It’s refreshing to hear a watch TH-camr say “I don’t have unlimited funds so I can’t buy every watch I want” in a sea of watch content and blogs that are constantly urging us to buy and buy more.

      You are just going thru what every reviewer has gone thru. At least you are not going the Bruce Williams way, when he became a full snob badly publicly dismissing every watch not a Rolex, then dismissing his own fans because he traded up to Vacheron and no one else would get one. Just to realize he could not grow that way, so had to come back to review Seikos 😅

    • @nerychristian
      @nerychristian 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yo don't have to sell your watches. You can still do watch reviews. Just change your angle. For example, you can make a video titled "The 10 best digital watches under $100". And buy some inexpensive Casio or Timex watches and review them. Believe it or not, not everyone watch collector collects expensive watches. Some people collect Casio watches. Others collect Citizen watches. Some collect Swatch watches. Create a video for new watch collectors, to introduce young people to watch collecting. Help them find good, inexpensive watches.

    I think this is a very honest assessment of what real world watch collecting is like for most men under 45. I have probably 15K in watches and honestly, even if I had the money to throw around, I wouldn’t even want more in watches. Problem is… there are other watches I’d really love to have. It’s a real dilemma.

    • @HarrisonElmore

      Yeah you're speaking my language. I think that's where these trade off's come in. Despite having this channel, the issue of having to swap around watches even when you love them still remains!

    • @nerychristian
      @nerychristian 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I understand what you mean. I have about 8 automatic watches in my collection. I probably spent close to $20,000 on those watches. So I think I have reached the limit of what I want to spend on watches. But recently I bought a couple of Casio G-Shock watches, and it made me realize that watches don't need to be expensive in order to be enjoyable. I also bought a Citizen Promaster Aqualand JP2007-17W. It wasn't expensive, but I love the look of the watch. It's very unique, and will probably get more attention than most of my expensive watches.

    Thanks for what you do here...I just got my Pelagos 39 this week, partially due to your videos on it and I'm absolutely in love. I knew I wanted it when it first came out, but sat on the decision until now because I couldn't justify the money at the time and wanted to be sure it was what I wanted. I love your take on the budget aspect of collecting. After close to 10 years in the hobby, I'm sitting at 8 watches in the collection, totaling around $15k and I think it's my sweet spot for what I'm comfortable having at any given time. I've got a few that I'll never sell, but I've moved to a "one in-one out" philosophy to experience as much variety as I can going forward.

    A man of his word! Great video man. As an owner of Omega, Breitling, Rolex, and Seiko, I'm finding that I'm doing the same. Letting go of certain pieces to fund and experience other pieces from other manufacturers. I love watches too much to just experience the same 3 watches for the rest of my life. There's a couple of core watches (sorta like you) that are staying forever though. And like you said , its easier to let go when you know they can easily be acquired again anyway. We should note that we will generally lose money by doing this. But eh,it's all part of the hobby man and it's a small price to pay (imho anyway) to experience a bunch of cool watches.

    I agree with your reasons and have done the same thing believing I may eventually buy the watch again since it should continue to be relatively available.
    That being said, I'd say my one selling regret that still sticks with me was selling my Glycine Airman 18 Purist. I really cannot find that watch anymore, at least not the version(s) I want. It was the perfect size and overall design at 39mm with sapphire on both front and back with screwdown crowns for 200m WR. My hope is they will eventually remake them in the future. It's really the perfect middle size with the best robustness. On my 7" wrist, 40-42mm tends to wear just a bit too big due to the wide and long lug design. And 36mm felt a tad too dainty, although more true the original vintage scale.

    Did you have any issues with the bezel? Mine never seemed consistent in the way it would turn, and eventually started falling off. It happened once while I was walking into a lounge in the airport, and if a guy hadn’t mentioned me dropping something, I wouldn’t have noticed. This is the only watch I’ve ever owned with this issue. Just sent it in to Tudor about a week ago. Love the watch otherwise.

    Good points and I appreciate your sacrifices for our entertainment! I also really enjoyed but ultimately let go of my P39. My main 2 reasons were lack of a date function and the fact that Tudor will not refinish the case/bracelets on their titanium watches. I don’t necessarily mind the scratches but over 10 years it would look pretty beat and I would like to at least have the option. With that said, if they release a date model… I’m going to buy it lol.

    Question for you. I was between the Pelagos 39 and the Omega No Time to Die for a titanium diver. I bought the NtTD because it felt more exciting and dynamic and I loved it. The price bothered me and I wound up selling it even though I loved the watch. I’m looking at the Pelagos again but wondering if I’ll get bored with it after having the NTTD

    • @WH-hi5ew
      @WH-hi5ew 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Try it on at your AD a few times first would be my advice. Personally I found the NTTD nice colour but a bit faux.... it's not really a military watch but pretends to be. Also, Pelagos is a bit more of a tool watch and less expensive if you find yourself uncomfortable with wearing more expensive watches (I'm the same with my 16710 GMT so am going to sell it).

  • @BLR653

    Sizing is perfect. The shiney bezel and dial are not for me. If they did a matte dial and bezel ala the old Tudor Sub I would have broken down the door at my AD to buy one. Instead I would rather have the new FXD in black now as that feels MUCH more toolish.

    I had one for 6 months and moved it on , the prob with the 39 is the current watch market truth be told. Lets be real a $4500 watch is not a toolwatch, this is us enthusiasts trying to justify the price. it is a piece of jewelry and while the Peli 39 is fit for purpose it doesn't make any sense to use it as such. It is expensive with zero bling factor , I paid the same for the watch as I did my 16610 Sub new, it were 10 years ago the watch would be $1500 and at that price the watch makes sense IMHO.

  • @Watchgeek14
    @Watchgeek14 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I own the pelagos 39 and it gets more wrist time than the other 2 Rolex’s I own. That’s partly due to the rubber strap a keep it on. I love the aesthetic and how light it is. It’s almost like an expensive G-shock although I don’t wear it like one 😅 I took would love to see other variants of this watch mainly colour wise as I think it’s brilliant. His decision, but I don’t get it either. 5 figure collection, bought a house, camera, multiple streams of income, etc. Money doesn’t seem like a major concern. Life’s too short. Just keep the watches that mean something to you! Idk I don’t get it lol. Is it guilt or imposter syndrome? The 3 watch collection is a trend and doesn’t apply to everyone. You can be emotionally attached to 10+ watches! Long as you’re financially responsible, why needlessly put restrictions on yourself? Esp restrictions you likely didn’t create yourself but you heard from someone else online (like a “3 watch collection”)? I’m keeping every watch that means something to me unless there’s an emergency that my emergency fund can’t handle 🤷🏽‍♂️

    The Pelagos 39 is the watch Rolex SHOULD be making. It is the real submariner. My issue is that I tend to lean on the pelagos in my wearing cycle, because it is so perfect as a tool watch. @@RabbitWatchShop I think that's probably the case with the Pelagos in general, but it's very bitter for a diver. If you want to dive professionally with it, you will logically want to use the bezel after a dive. Funnily enough, the bezel of the BB54 also runs perfectly for me after coming into contact with water. Which should I sell now, both are too many in my collection 🤔

      @@Julian_O91 the 54 is my favorite diver of all time. Hence, I would sell my Pelagos before my 54. You have to ask yourself what you like more: a modern, professional diver in titanium with modern dimensions, or a vintage inspired midsize diver.

    I’m 5 seconds into the video, and I can preface my view by saying I’ve always found Tudor watches to be nothing special. With that fit and finish, none of their models besides solid gold should cost more than $1500. You get much better fit and finish from China these days, take it from someone who directly compared his Chinese watch with a P39 and a BB58 925. Shitty brand that only uses false advertising and branding to their advantage

      @verynormalman 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As we say in Britain, "you should have gone to Specsavers"! Can't support your view about Chinese origin watches. I find them truly terrible and it's almost the antithesis of a quality watch. Every time I look at my watch, if it were from China, I would feel a failure. A Tudor is a working watch. It isn't supposed to be all shiny like a piece of jewellery. It's designed to be under a boat, not on deck drinking a cocktail.

As much as I like to believe people when they say it's part of the journey, I can't help to think their just trying to rationalize their mistakes. Just call it how it is. As it seems everyone buys them, becomes bored and unhappy with them, then sells the tudor at a loss. The ratio of people buying and selling a tudor subs because their unhappy is significantly more then a rolex sub. The Pelagos 39 is plagued with quality issues too like many Tudor’s and once you find out Tudor doesn’t actually make anything themselves you start to feel slightly cheated. That new Tudor factory only assembles watches with parts made by various manufacturing companies.
