In this video you'll see me woodturning a viking from a log, yes, thats right, I made a viking (albeit a cute one) from a log. *Excuse the sore throat and the out of sync voice - not sure what happened there!)
This is an easy beginner's woodturning project. It was simply a matter of turning a basic body and helmet shape, a club and some feet. The real fun came when adding the finishing touches to this mighty warrior.
I was inspired by the vintage vikings made by Jacob Jensen in the 1950's. I figured I could have a go at making my own version, and I'm delighted with how he came out. Lots of scope to make him some raiding buddies.

Love it ! a superb little project Claire 👍 ! Its not really surprising how many of us Brits have a dash of Viking blood in us as they were raiding and settling in different parts of the country. So who knows Claire, you may well have an ancestor with a Viking shield maidens blood in you .😀

Definitely, Bram. I got the ancestry test and am 16 percent Norwegian and 20 percent Swedish apparently!! I always knew it!!! He was a fun little project. Think there will be more viking themed things now I have the hat! 😂🥰🌲🦊🌲

That's amazing ❤️, although as a typical bloke for first half of the video my mind was in the gutter just like a teenage lad 😂🤣😂🤭 thinking she can't show this on TH-cam....
Then I focused on the music and imagined a story about a wood turner who broke the corporate mould and went on and produce an amazing product at a fraction of the cost, (even imaging purple and yellow banners, just like the TH-cam adds that use the same music)
Suddenly an awesome Sven appears......

Well done Claire he looks almost real. You could have saved some time by not making the horns for his helmet. It's prooven that the horned helmts are only a mythe but it always helps with a bit of decoration. I love him. Hope Nessy is up and running. Dr. D.

My initial thought was, there is no way she can wood turn a viking. Oh how wrong I was! That is a great viking. What amazes me is the imagination you have to find material for the hair, coat and so on. And somehow, looking at the little viking makes me happy. Strange. Very well done. great piece im new to wood turning and those carbide tools look eaiser to use than normal ones
I’m sure they are - I’m new too and haven’t tried traditional tools yet - more worried about sharpening them to be honest but they are something I will try soon! The carbides are great 👍

Love it. A friend of mine made some gonks and I thought about making a Viking warrior, thanks for the inspiration. I know that technically they didn.t wear horned helms but we all would have liked them to. I'll be spinning up the lathe tomorrow. Just missing some beard material. Great work loved it.

Why the things sticking out of your hat. Vikings never had horned helmets. That came about because of the Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis film.
