I’ve wanted a lathe for absolutely years and my hubby bought me one for Christmas this year! 🎉 I’m so excited to start making things! So far I’ve only rounded a chunk of wood to make some cups from but I’m going to finish them today! 🥰❤️ I loved this vid cuz I hand carved a kuksa for my hubby a couple of years ago from some birch I found in the woods that had been felled and it half killed me to hack off a chunk and then hand make the whole thing with my hand carving tools 😂🤦♀️ I’ll defo be trying it this way this time, now that I have a lathe! 😂❤❤❤

Honestly, it was a bit dangerous and I’m sure a jig would have helped but you get the idea. I’m only a newbie turner but if you’re experienced you’ll work something out! 🥰🌲🦊🌲
@@MakingItOutOfTheWoods The only thing I might would change is to turn a tenon on the back of the cup. Similar to how you would do a bowl. But I agree, having that handle spinning around is a little intimidating.

It’s coming together for sure. Had to set up new camera mounts and stuff and this was the perfect quick project to get to grips with the setting on the lathe. It was fab to be in the workshop this weekend - long May it last 🥰 thanks for watching 🌲🦊🌲

Awesome kuksa Claire, the Elm is a great choice of wood, as the grain is stunning and has a wonderful colour to it. Fantastic choice in lathe and you bolted it down too, awesome! Looking forward to seeing what you can do next. Keep on turning. Cheers, Bluey 👍

Nice little project and video plus you’re a braver person than me - my new coronet herald I’ve barely made a few pens. Also hats off to smelly cat he does some good stuff.
I knew my old lathe so well, Chris, and to be honest, I like the herald but not in love with it yet. I’ve made a pen on it too but that’s it so far, might end up just being an expensive pen lathe 😂🤪🌲🦊🌲
Nice work clare that came out lovely. Just a couple of tips for the branding iron try a spray bottle to dampen the wood slightly as this helps with the overburn around the edges and then once branded and dry just give it a light sand over with the orbital and you're golden. The oil/wax will then make the brand really pop xx
Great job. If you are going to use a waste block then turn a tenon on it rather than have it as the tenon as it was too long to mount in the chick properly as it had bottomed out. Then with it in the lathe fix the work on the waste block on the lathe then you have a better chance of getting in cantered. Well done!

@@MakingItOutOfTheWoods yeh 😢 can't use it at the moment ... its too big to go in the gap I carve for the chuck ... but just worked out that I can make the chuck larger by removing screws ... so will have to have a play xx

Great video, being a novice turner as well that handle would have had me nervous lol I did a new little tips and tricks video to help with using the branding irons on my channel. Great work though turned out nice 👏🏻
