Yes, there's a huge relationship between gut health, gut bacteria, and mental health, to the point that the neural network in our gut has been deemed a sort of second brain. Mind what you eat, seriously.

The problem goes beyond the individual's decision on what to eat or not. There's a problem of class. The rise in the price of food condemns the lower class to spend less with food and that fact is nothing to be ignored. If we analyse statics, we will able to see that people with less money are feeding themselves with fast food

Really good episode. It may also explain why there are so many people who have been suffering from mental problems since they were young. Healthy diet should start at young age as I've seen parents giving soft drinks, chocolates, and chips to their toddlers for lunch. I'll never do this. I also saw a pregnant woman drinking coffee or tea. Hope there's one episode which is about what food to avoid for pregnant women and it could be broadcasted on TV so that more people will get to know how our diet affects our mental health and next generation. I remember there was a TV programme long time ago, We are What We Eat. Very true. Thank you.

Of course food can affect our brains. The brain is one part of the organs of our body, just like the others, it has its own functions. Also like other organs of our body, so if the food we digested can make an effect on all those parts of our body, why can't it affect our brain?
And please do understand, food can affect our brains in a fundamental way, but it can never calls some mental illness in your mind, unless you think they do.

Finished listening to the whole thing but found nothing new. It just proves yes, there's a link between mental health and gut health. But nothing really new about how to make "happy bacteria" nor reduce "sad bacteria" other than what we already know - cut out sugar, eat fibrous food, lots of seeds and nuts ... I agree with much of these but not entirely. I've cut out most sugar since a very young age but I do still enjoy high carb foods, especially rice and pasta. But I do eat more veges than meat but don't touch fruits for years, and I stand by nuts and seeds. I think I'm well adjusted, feeling happy mostly but there're days with mood swings (maybe just PMS). So, my conclusion is mostly, to just listen very closely to your body, and make it happy! If your body wants some Cheetos, give it , and make it happy. My body does crave those things once in a while, and I don't see why not in the grand scheme of observing a long-term relatively healthy lifestyle ... the only health ethos I stand by is, eat 70%-80% full so you don't overwork your organs. Good for gut, brain and complexion 😉
