      Exactly you can’t properly compare something when your using 2 completely setups. It doesn’t work that way dude.

    16 is more dynamic and tighter. I replaced the stock 4 ohm speakers in both a Marshall and Peavey practice amp with 8 ohm speakers. They have a more dynamic sound and slightly less volume because of the higher impedance. The Peavey farted out on the low notes with the stock Blue Marvel speaker. It was 3.2 ohms!!!

      16 ohms sound more pleasant . 8 ohms sound to fast and difficult to understand .

      Thanks! Yeah, tonewise these speakers are way different. The 8ohm tonkerlite is meant to get more “British chime,” the 16 ohm cannabis Rex is definitely darker, more throaty. With this video I was trying to focus on the volume different, and these are the 2 speakers I have lol.

  • @MarcAndreLevesque

    Perceived volume is lower with 16ohm because the lower mids are cut, don't ask me how I am no engineer it just is. Db is relatively the same as long as you match the ohm of the amp and cab, 8 ohm is perceived as louder because the upper mids are compressed and they are even more compressed with 4ohm.

    I'm NOT a lead player, I'm a rhythm guitarist. I'm probably into MUCH heavier music than yourself...Metal/Thrash/Death Metal, but I did like the rhythm stuff you were jamming here. Pretty Rockin'.
    When I'm near a guitar and someone asks me to play, I don't wanna shock them by busting out some Metallica or Pantera or KoRn, I'd rather play some bluesy rock like what you're playing. I just never practiced that, as soon as I learned my chords, bar chords and discovered I can play by ear, I jumped straight into learning Metallica, Pantera and other thrash bands.

    I think the 16ohm speaker accents guitar articulation from the fretboard combined with pick attack for a sharper sound. On stage, most in the audience wont hear that, unless the sound person is on their "A" game.

    The one thing you must never do is run a valve amplifier with no speaker/load connected.
    Voltage across valve goes up and can damage it..

    Hard to compare because cab is different. Maybe differences are due to the cab only.

    • @samhainlimon
      @samhainlimon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      your right on your first statement. We cant tell because the cabs are different and make a big difference right?

    • @purity6sic6mc
      @purity6sic6mc ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samhainlimon yes this is correct. You can't actually compare the 8 and 16ohms in this example cause the cabs are different. That alone plays a big difference in your tone and how it's colored.The enclosure plays a vital role in shaping the sound that is produced by the speaker. It can affect the overall frequency response, as well as the volume and clarity of the sound.

      Speaker swaps are probably the most profound effect you can have on your tone. But putting a 16ohm in there should take the volume down a little bit.

    In my opinion, all what i hear, that 16om has less noise. So, your ears/brain faster tired from 8om then from 16.

    • @Chucksguitargeekery
      @Chucksguitargeekery  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wasn’t really comparing the tones as these speakers are pretty different tone-wise (I also didn’t properly mic). I was more focused on the decibel difference between the two impedances.

  • @vlc9521

    what was the watt difference between the 8ohm and the 16ohm on the same amp and then read the db and heat difference the amp puts out and do u think having the 16ohm half power on the 8ohm amp is worth it for long givity for the amp and less heat vs very little gain compared to using the 8ohm speaker in loudness?

  • @milossegrt8047
    @milossegrt8047 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    what is the logic to compare speakers from different boxes? no matter how many ohms they have .... the resonance is different, and it certainly affects the volume. btw, nice playing;)...cheers

    • @Chucksguitargeekery
      @Chucksguitargeekery  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks! Frankly, I just threw this video together when I had a spare couple minutes, I had no idea that the algorithm would pick it up and suggest it to people lol. I know the cabs make a difference in the space around it, I was thinking the effect shouldn’t be so big with the db meter one meter directly in front of the cab. Maybe I’ll recreate this experiment more scientifically one day.

    I remember way back about 20years..My friend had a Zoomax subwoofer 12inch 300w 8ohms...that speaker played a lot of bass and loudness little bit of Treble n Voices...Till I introduce him to my marshall 10inch 150w 16ohm woofer...everybody was shocked that marshall woofer was far louder than the Zoomax subwoofer..the marshall played a lot Treble Loudness n Voices..when we put the speakers next to one another.you could not even hear the 300w 8h ohms subwoofer..

      I think that’s just the characteristic of a British sounding speaker with a Neodymium magnet. The 16ohm is an ‘American’ style speaker, it def has a lot more low end.

    Hi, I have a vintage amp and my output is 16 ohms. I have a single woofer ( 16 ohm) and Tweeter (16 ohm) hooked up to the amp through a cross-over.
    My tweeter is toast so I bought a new Tweeter from Pyle ( PH-391) but it is only 8 ohms. How do I wire this into my set up.
    My cross-over has a 15 ohm and 33 ohm resistor along with a 3.0 uf Capacitor.
    Do these new tweeters even need a cross-over ..I am confused. Any help appreciated.

    I have a pair of classic JAMO D265 speakers and one as a burnt coil. So im replacimg both 12 inch drivers. I seen some eminence eden xst 16ohm drivers on the internet but not sure wether to stick to 8ohm. Im going run them on a kenwood ka3020 special edition amp that can go 16 to 4 ohm on 4 channels, but also as low impedance capabilities so can run as low as 2ohm. I can run my eminence 15inch me2008 PA speakers on it no problem but they way too powerful to use in my home.
    So 16 or 8ohm drivers for my JAMO'S ???.

      that's because the closed one has more bass, it's a phase effect that kills bass in an open back cabinet, the sound from the back partly cancels out the sound in the front

    question: What would be the perceived volum difference between the same amp (rated at 8ohm min.) running into either a Single 8ohm 12" cab, vs. running into a 2x12 16ohm cab? I'm asking because I have 2 8ohm drivers and am trying to decide how best to use them with this amp. From this experiment, it appears that the 2 drivers in series at 16ohms would still have more output than a single driver at 8ohms. Essentially, I'm trying to make sure my cab is as universally compatible with the various amp heads that I own. At least, one of the amps requires a minimum 8ohm load. So, barring just buying new 4ohm drivers and running them in parallel, the 16ohm option seems best. Thoughts?

    • @purity6sic6mc
      @purity6sic6mc ปีที่แล้ว

      Just to give you a quick answer to the volume differences between the 8 ohm and 16 ohm speakers. For example... A 8 ohm amp at 50 watts and a 16 ohm amp at 50 watts will both be about the same volume level, if both are using matched speakers, that's determined more by the output wattage and efficiency of the speakers. Speaker efficiency makes a much greater difference in volume than the resistance of the same speaker. You can't hear the difference in volume between a 8 ohm and 16 ohm speaker hooked to the same amp. So really no impedance doesn't play a role in volume as much as it plays a role in how much of a load the speaker can handle.

    ah different cabinets ... got me thinking to do a comparison b/w two speakers same mfr with same sensitivity using the same amp which would be louder. And will it matter .... 3dB (double power) -- I've been told that is when someone who knows there stuff will tell the difference ... most people won't notice until 6-9dB

    Interesting video with zero scientific information. Too many variables using a person playing a stringed instrument and different cabinets. It only takes minutes to swap speakers. A better way to do this would be with a tone generator and recording at multiple levels and frequency. I go away with no new information.
