    The space mouse has a critical flaw- axis coupling. Meaning if you twist the space mouse(say around the Z axis) you can then no longer simultaneously deflect to 100% left/right or 100% forward/back while maintaining the Z axis rotation..

    • @expressmangaming650
      @expressmangaming650  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct, but this can be easily compensated for with how you build the response curves in Joystick Gremlin.

    • @Desrtfox71
      @Desrtfox71 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@expressmangaming650 You can compensate somewhat yes, if you restrict your physical deflections to around half of the maximum physical movement available, which is already very low on the Space Mouse in my opinion. This is the primary reason I abandoned the Space Mouse, and instead now use an Oculus controller (which isn't perfect either). Their are older 6dof controllers like the SpaceOrb360 that don't have the coupling issue, but those are hard to find and have issues of their own. Probably the best in the similar category to the SpaceMouse is the SpaceBall 4000. Take a look at that if you've never heard of it.

      i know expressman already replied with a technical solution, but as someone who's been using the spacemouse for cad for years i have one response:
      skill issue

    • @Desrtfox71
      @Desrtfox71 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jaimeeowwgoing from MKB or twin sticks to a true 6dof controller like the space mouse is definitely a whole new world, and depending on your desires, may be a dramatic improvement, but it does have issues, and there are "better" 6dof solutions out there, for some definitions of "better".
      As for experience, I despise the appeal to authority, but I've been using 6dof controllers of one type or another for over 25 years, including the space mouse back when it was a Logitech product.
      Feel free to love the space mouse though. We need all of the 6dof users we can get.

    I've been using a 3D mouse with Elite Dangerous for a couple of years now for vertical and horizontal thrust, as well as map navigation. I got the idea from The Expanse, if you look closely they have one on the Pilot chair of the Rocinante

    Man, this brings me back years! We used to theorycraft in chatroll and the old rsi forums if a 3d mouse would be a good option for space flight and many of us believed it would be *the* optimal way to play for maximum ship control. Love seeing this in action so many years later, I appreciate this video a ton. When I finally upgrade machines to run the game, I'm still strongly leaning toward getting a 3d mouse. I hadn't actually thought to pair one with a throttle though. I'll have to mull that over.

    You had me in the beginning with the eye patch, but I get it now with the pirate reference. Yes, Im a wittle swow🤦. The mouse seems like a really cool idea but dang if it doesnt also seem to be short on other binds compared to stick. I like the rolled up scarf arm rest, I use a pillow but it helps a lottt! Cool vid. Bravo on working around the cams, holy moley! The things you do for us viewers, your appreciative pirate bait 😁

    i love your intro thats hilarious. thank you for showing us the software you use to do this. i've been periodically trying to get cmj to work, then SOMEHOW the internet showed me joystick gremlin which led me to your channel. i've been waiting for YEARS to find software that actually works with the 3dconnexion mice. its honestly just kinda sad that it doesn't come vanilla with the 3dconnexion software. if they can get so many cad programs to work with it they should at least be able to provide a basic joystick remapper with the software. instead we have to install 3 homecooked programs by the community.

    it's a neat idea, one gizmo to control all 6 degrees of freedom, but it just seem so cumbersome to use. All I could imagine while watching this thing in action is how much of a pain some maneuvers must be to pull off and so it wasn't surprising to hear that throttling forward makes everything a bit more difficult to do. From a minimalist perspective I can kind of understand the appeal of the spacemouse, but if you have the room and funds to invest in peripherals then I think almost anyone would be better off with a HOSAS or HOMAS setup, even the biggest pacifists of the universe.
    Different strokes for different folks, but I just don't get it lol o7

    Your first video on the spacemouse is what convinced me to dust mine off. Took me a while to figure out the setup, but it's so much better than mouse and keyboard and I don't want the clutter of joysticks.
    I don't think I set mine up the same way you have your's set up, so I'll be curious to see your guide. I also don't have a throttle, instead I use the spacemouse and regular mouse and I rely heavily on the speed limiter on my mouse wheel and acceleration with the spacemouse.

    • @expressmangaming650

    I have the one with all the buttons. I didn't use the buttons but the wrist pad helped keep the device planted. My biggest issue with it was how i had to hold the knob while throttling forward and turning. I didn't think to move strafe forward/backward to another device, but it may solve all that issues. May have to give it another try after work today

    • @expressmangaming650
      @expressmangaming650  ปีที่แล้ว

  • @Szmer47
    @Szmer47 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For some reason, when Im using Joystick Gremlin my inputs are not going back to center when I'm releasing the knob. For example if I only touch strafe left it just keeps strafing even without me touching the spacemouse. Not having that issue with Sx2vjoy, only Joystick Gremlin. Have other issues with Sx2vjoy (key bindings) thats why wanted to try Gremlin. Did You have any similar issues maybe?

    • @expressmangaming650
      @expressmangaming650  ปีที่แล้ว

      Odd. It might be because you had relative rather than absolute on the binding in Joystick Gremlin. That's my best guess. A similar thing can happen with abs/rel in SC bindings but if it's not an issue with other control managers then it's definitely a Joystick Gremlin thing. You probably know this but the 3DConnexion profile changes with every app, so there could be something there too.

    I was thinking of getting one as an omnidirectional throttle (using keyboard and stick rn) but the price is very steep for the version with additional buttons on it.

    • @expressmangaming650
      @expressmangaming650  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am actually glad I don't have the Pro (with the extra buttons), because that hand is tied up with giving inputs. I don't even use the two buttons my version has.

    • @justalex4214
      @justalex4214 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@expressmangaming650 yeah I can understand why, but since I'm using my keyboard for thrust inputs I'm very used to having all the keys for additional inputs in reach of my fingers and taking off my left hand from the space mouse to reach for certain keys would introduce a massive delay in my actions which in combat could prove fatal, which is why the normal space mouse just isn't an option for me...and the pro unfortunately costs over 300 bucks so I guess I'll have to look for alternatives.
