Just what the doctor prescribed. The fact that it offers both XLR and 3.5 mm in plus USB out makes it work as an audio interface when needed. Exceptionally versatile for the price.
When you want to line up camera audio and recorder audio, you can generate a beep from the device at the start of each recording. Then just line up the beeps. Easy!
This was the 1st recorder I have ever purchased. So far, I like it better than the XLR converter that Lumix makes. I was always intimidated by syncing audio files. but so many software interfaces make it no big deal. I now use my Lumix XLR adapter with a shotgun mic as scratch audio, or run a second pencil mic close to the action for a back up track.
Been waiting for mine, ordered from B&H as soon as pre-orders were launched, hope to get soon. Better than lugging my f6 around when i usually only need 2 inputs any way - thanks for the vid!
nice vid! I'm interested when used in interface mode - is there a possibility to record in 24bit or 32 bit to the daw and not device card itself? thanks
I haven’t used it much as a DAW so I’m not really sure. I’m almost certain you can use it that way because you can plug in an iPhone in the usb and that gives you the ability to use phantom power mics with your phone
@@TonyMellinger Sometimes it takes a friend or stranger to point out the obvious 😊 Thanks for taking the request into consideration😉👍 And good luck with everything going forward!👍
Saw comments mentioning the preamp in this device is not that great compared to F3. Did you alos feel like that? As far as there is no hissing sound for my regular video flow, I am okay. I use Deity D3 Pro mic (line in/TRS) and Shure MV7.
I haven’t used the f3… but I haven’t noticed anything at all on this unit. Someone else commented the difference between -122 and -127 which I’m guessing you’re not going to notice that in the real world… maybe, I probably wouldn’t though. Those kind of tests typically are just found in testing. But, who knows, might be a deal breaker. Gas am just came out with a crazy unit that’s $400 that has quite a few more pro features I may look into!
@@TonyMellinger Thanks. I am currently using H4n for line in, but this H1 XLR is a great option for my XLR mics. I use Shure MV7, but everytime I use them I have to record it to computer via a audio interface. If I get this, it would be handy for my TH-cam set up. Awesome review by the way. Keep it up.
@@tvnathreviews Very good! I'm guessing you're using the H4n with the line in because your signal can be consistent? Very cool setup, I've never used a MV7, but have spent quite a bit of time with the SM7b with a cloud booster. Thanks for watching!!
That’s a great question! I need to try it out. From my understanding when you plug it in via usbc it records directly into the iPad as if it were a mic. So hypothetically left and right would be split. I’m not sure though
You mean with a 1/8” cable? I have not. It would work but you’d lose some audio quality in the cameras preamp. If you go this route keep your camera audio as low as possible
When you say increase the audio… Do you mean to monitor it while it is recording? Or do you mean when you’re using the audio in an editor It’s too quiet? Obviously, while you’re recording, just raise the volume of your headphones level in order to hear it better. If you’re referring to afterwards, I just raise the gain to where it needs to be.
Off the top of my head this is a -122dB device and the F3 is -127dB, in other words the F3 is quieter, but the H1 XLR is probably adequate for all but the most critical situations. Other models in the "Essentials"range are -120 I think. So it's good, not perfect, but I doubt whether anyone would notice the noise difference between the F3 and this device in real-world conditions. Note that I am going from memory of spec reading and also expressing personal opinion, but all the available specs are on the Zoom web site.
@@Ozpeter yeah i guess it’ll come to buying one and seeing if it works for me. I only do talking head videos and I can post process so hoping this will save me some money over the F3
So long as the loud sound does not cause analog distortion at the input, or distort the actual mics you were using, it would be fine. If it detects that the analog inputs are being overloaded it displays a warning message.
@@TonyMellingerMaybe it doesn't fit for everyone, but for small creators (like me) it is enough. And I think H1 and H2 models are perfect for basic things.

On the H1?

One request from me would be to keep the “raw audio” samples free of background music.

Can you connect this to an iPad to save two channels directly ?

I own H5,once in a while i record voiceover with dynamic microphone,is it worth to upgrade? How is the floor noice on that new device?
The H5 is great. The only reason would be a smaller footprint and 32 bit float. If those things don’t matter to you, I’m not sure it’d be worth it
which preamps are besser zoom h1 xlr, zoom f3 or tascam av2?
I’d imagine the av2. It also has a ton of great features and is over 2x the cost 😂

Would this fit well into my pocket ? Then I’d have a shotgun mic hooked up for interviews
Yes for sure. It’s tiny!
So with these i guess there is no way to set gain? What if youre recording someone talking then shooting guns would it overpower this?
There’s no way to set the gain and that’s the advantage. I am not sure, but I think you’d be ok. From my understanding, you have over 100db of range

You can set it to record two inputs to one stereo file if you wish.

Yes you sure can. The top left button hit mono x2. Then you can use the mixer if you want the left or right more quiet.
Can it record a lav mic and an xlr mic at the same time?
No. You either use the inputs on the top, or the one at the side.
