    Your Lord Soth voice is just how I picture him sounding. If Soth had only respected his marital vows (to both women), a lot of his problems wouldn't be there.

    • @HouroftheRaven
      @HouroftheRaven  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Indeed, he would be in a much better condition. Overall, for all his pride Lord Soth is untrustworthy, and when tempted with his desires he broke his vows. Since then, he sees his own behavior in those around him, even his wives, and see betrayers everywhere.

    Good job telling Soth's story. My only quibble is that I would say Laurana freed herself rather than Tanis freeing her, since she broke free on her own initiative and was the one that beat up Kitiara and sent the Crown of Power flying (which caused the Dragonarmies to start destroying themselves and thus gave her the distraction to escape the audience chamber), but that aside I think you nailed it.

    • @HouroftheRaven
      @HouroftheRaven  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed, you are correct! It's been a while since I read those books, and while I was researching Soth's history I might have missed a few details about other characters. Thanks, glad you liked the video!

      Laurana's character arc was amazing too. She went from being pretty much a child, as far as elves were considered, to being the Golden General in just the span of three books! I loved her! The Dragonlance books are some of the best ever!

      @@visionhawk4403 100% agree! Laurana is my all time favorite fictional character. Her growth and heroism and passion are so inspiring, and I love how she becomes such a fierce and capable warrior while always being such a loving and kind person. I also think she is the hero of the Chronicles as she did more to win the War of the Lance than any other character.

      Thanks! I use images from DnD and MTg, since they are both from Wizards of the Coast, and they allow the use in their fan content police. The comic scans are from the "Worlds of Dungeons & Dragons 3", and they adapt the short story The Rigor of the Game from the book Tales of Ravenloft.

    I am one who absolutely loves the Dragonlance books and I played the campaign of it in D&D. Lord Soth was one of my favorite characters because his lore was so deep. I later read Knight of the Black Rose when I started Ravenloft campaigns and found and played a campaign about him. With all of that said, I never knew he ever came back to Krynn. This was a great video and it showed me an ending to one of my favorite characters of all time. Thank you!

But they completely avoided that room lol so now its down in his crypt cuz i lovw that encounter lol

    • @HouroftheRaven
      @HouroftheRaven  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@firelordsinger9666 I also used the clone room and the clones on my campaign. When I DM the events of the Grim Harvest, which resulted in the destruction of Il Aluk and the creation of Necropolis, all my players died in the negative energy explosion. They thought I was ending the campaign in a TPK, but I gave them new pre-generated characters for the next session (and switched them between the original players), that where low-level versions of their previous Characters. I then began a new campaign, where the "clones" tried to save Darkon from the Darklord of the Necropolis, Death, that was sending his undead champions to conquest Darkon in his name. This undead champions where the old PC characters, all of them a different type of a powerful undead monster. When the clones destroyed the undead version of their previous characters, they began to recover their old equipment and find clues that they were connected with these monsters. In the end, they had to enter Castle Avernus, discovered that they were clones with false memories of their lives (Darkons curse), and were responsible for the return of Azalin to Darkon.

    Its been such a long time since I've read any of the novels involving Soth. This was a great refresher. Hearing the whole story in one go helped me resolve an issue I had with the setting in that the way the mists had punished him was so similar to Strahd. After hearing this though I think I figured out the major difference between the two in that Strahd's crimes were crimes of jealousy and envy, whereas it seems like Soth's main flaw was a lack of faith in everything and everyone around him, that caused him to betray others due to his skewed perceptions of their own betrayals of him. In Sithicus he then became surrounded by the treacherous. In retrospect, it's a possibility that the act of actually honoring Magda's loyalty by protecting Inza, rather than finding yet another reason to break a promise to those faithful to him, helped loosen the Mists grasp over Lord Soth. Perhaps he did actually earn a bit of redemption.

    • @HouroftheRaven
      @HouroftheRaven  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As always an excelent observation! He does earn a bit of redemption, but then he once more abandon his quest in the Veidrava Salt Mines as the Banshees tell him of another betrayal (this time a real one). I guess the novel Specter of the Black Rose wanted to leave the reasons for his escape vague and uncertain. Some people believe he escaped because he just didn't care for the torments anymore, but personaly I like the idea that the after all the rituals to bring Krynn closer to Sithicus, the curse from Isolde was stronger then the one that used to bind him in the Mists, and fate was calling him back to Dragonlance.

    • @Andyfromsomewhere
      @Andyfromsomewhere 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@HouroftheRaven I always figured the reason the Mists released Soth was because of the change in his attitude compared to the other darklords. The point of Ravenloft is that the darklords damned themselves and cannot see it. If you took Strahd, and you told him it was HIS choices/actions that drove Tatyana over that wall, and that the fault lies 100% with HIM for the situation he is now in, he'd flip a shit and kill you, because he absolutely could not accept that. If you told Soth, "You did these crimes and your own actions forged your own doom, and that's why you're here, he would AGREE. He knew he deserved his fate, and accepted it, and it ceased to bother him. At that point, his "curse" within the Mists had ceased to be one.

    • @HouroftheRaven
      @HouroftheRaven  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Andyfromsomewhere I like your interpretation, it matches well with the Gothic proposal of the setting, and it is quite consistent with Soth's final destiny and his redemption in his future appearance in the Dragonlance novels. Still, considering that the Dark Powers keep even innocent people in their clutches, I don't imagine that they would free Lord Soth so easily, just by accepting that he deserves his curse.

      Thanks! Indeed, it's a shame how his period in Ravenloft was not considered in the Dragonlance timeline, and the fact that he returned to Krynn only to be killed in his next appearence in the novels. I'm ok with him fiding redemption at the end, but the character had a great potential, and would be nice to see him again in Krynn, after his time in the mists.

    Can I ask where you sourced the information about Korinne? I'm not doubting you or saying anything negative; I'm just curious. Knight of the Black Rose and Spectre of the Black Rose say that Caradoc killed her to make way for Isolde. Knight implies that Soth conspired with him to do it, but Spectre says Caradoc took it upon himself to do it and Soth covered it up because he knew no one would believe it wasn't his doing and because it did pave the way for him to be with Isolde. I've also never heard the bit about the witch before.

    • @HouroftheRaven
      @HouroftheRaven  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Jeffrey. There is indeed some conflicting information about Korine's murder in Ravenloft's products. The main source about the murder of Korine and her visit to tho the Witch is the Dragonlance novel "Lord Soth", written by Edo Von Belkom. The novel details his life as a Knight of Solamnia, and how he became a Death Knight. www.amazon.com/Lord-Soth-Dragonlance-Warriors-Vol/dp/0786905190#ace-g9314988104

    I might actually stay and listen to what you have to say if you didn't slam with commercials every 5 minutes. There are plenty of channels out there with over a million subscribers that don't try to hyper monetize in this way. It's stupid.
    Why don't you try putting some content out there and letting people decide whether or not you are worth listening to then being like a parasite and jumping all over them as soon as they click your video

    • @HouroftheRaven
      @HouroftheRaven  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Robert. Sorry to hear about your experience with the channel. I'm indeed a small channel compared to other DnD youtube channels out there, but I am one of the few dedicated only to Ravenloft, and try to upload new videos online regurlarly, with content both in English and Portuguese.
      First, I would like to thank you for your feedback about the adds that appear on the video. It is the first time I receive a negative feedback about youtube advertisment in my videos, and without feedback I would never discover if this is a big problem to the viewers. The only thing I did on the channel was to activate youtube monetization when it was available (after 1k subscribers among other requirements), and I did not choose or was asked by youtube when or how frequent comercials would appear. I will research if I can alter this specifications on the video, and mind this issue on future videos.
      Once again, thanks for the feedback. Hope you can still enjoy the channel content.

    • @robertramsey8871

      There are 15 commercial breaks in 1 hour video. That means in one hour, there is a commercial and I mean a full 15 second commercial every four minutes. That is not competitive.
      It only takes a couple of seconds for someone who enjoyed your content enough that they did not want to deal with this to simply download the video from an external website and avoid every single one of the commercials. You might be able to get away with three commercials in one hour. If you hit people with too many commercials they will simply download the content and you won't get any money.

      @@robertramsey8871 I can see how this many ads can be annoying. As I said before, I just activated the youtube monetization, and youtube automatically inserted the ads on the video. I have researched for a solution online, and the only solution is to manually insert the ad breaks in the video.
      I have adjusted this video, and now it has no opening ad, and I have significantly reduced the ad breaks int the video. This might take some time, but I will review my other videos as well. Once again, thank you for the feedback, and for bringing the issue to my attention. Hope you can enjoy the video and channel now.
