What is that?? Was my response to seeing my first Peugeot RCZ. It was a prototype doing some testing in the Alps and I'd just chanced upon it by sheer fluke. It looked like something from a different planet with its crazy curves and jet-fighter glasshouse. It was only when I trawled my memory that I associated it with the Peugeot 308 RCZ concept car that had appeared at the 2007 Frankfurt Show. It was exactly the sort of car that Peugeot needed to lift them out of a period when their styling direction had gone badly astray. The RCZ was a marker laid down and a very successful one at that. Here's how to select a decent used example.
    History
It wasn't until the 2009 Frankfurt Show that the production RCZ was unveiled to the public. It caused a sensation. Or rather it would have if show-goers could be convinced that, yes, this wild looking car was going into production. The thing is, we're always beguiled by crazy cars at the big shows which, if they ever do make production, look nothing like the vehicle on the show stands.
The RCZ was different. When it arrived in UK dealerships in summer 2010, it looked every inch the show star. Nothing had been significantly watered down or cut through budgetary constraints. The range consisted of two versions of the 1.6 THP diesel engine and a 2.0-litre HDI diesel. By the same time the following year, Peugeot had sold over 30,000 RCZ models which was beyond its most optimistic projection. Those who dismissed the car as an ?Aldi TT? were being forced to eat their words. Sales continued strongly throughout 2012, through to the unveiling of the facelift car that replaced the original in quarter one of 2013.

I have the 200 bhp and it doesn't disappoint. You won't get a better looking car for the price, people are surprised how much you can get a good one for, what also was the appeal for me was that you won't see many on the road unlike the Audi TT.

Is the petrol more prone to issues then the diesel? I’m reading it is but not mechanical minded unfortunately 😮

Great Review. I bought the Diesel because I wanted 2 litres albeit only 163 BHP. Yes, the torque was good enough , but lacked sufficient sparkle. I then had the car mapped revealing 200 BHP. Now there is plenty of sparkle climbing from 40 thru 90 mph making the car really enjoyable. I recommend to everyone, but the downside is that you need to declare to your insurance Co. and yes - it will cost more. Your review captures the car completely - It is fun and 400% more practical in terms of boot space when compared to other sports cars. Its a Smile and it turns my head ...

considering doing the same - who tuned, who insures (what % increase) - any increase in smoke, mpg?
Having ridden in a 200Gt I found the ride ludicrously crashy thru potholes (19" wheels I imagine) - has yours got the 18" - is it still crashy, do u know if u could go higher in profile (dont mind going down one side in width) thx :)

Great cars. I have the limited edition RCZ R and it’s a fantastic bit of kit. With 270 bhp, lsd and only £130 per year tax what’s not to like. Engineered by Peugeot sport it’s set up so well and so quick yet will return 40-50mpg on a run. Looks like you are reviewing some of my car collection, 407 coupe now the RCZ.!

i have a gt200 its done a 103000 miles thrashed hard for 12 years and it doesnt rattle or creak everything works. yes has had some big maintaince but loved every mile ive driven in it. just had a timing chain fitted
its firm and the gears notchy and the turn in is what makes the rcz especially in the gt200 and gives it the character the Audi tt lacks. its a car you always want to drive the long way home........ also every car they made peugeot lost a lot of money on , the expensive body panels being a big part of it and that rear windscreen cost a fortune to make

The hairdressers model THP 156 automatic 38k. Oil changes 5k not 10k as per manual, cooling problems constant from thermastat to waterpump replacement might only be good for 40k, timing chains stretch in as low as 40k. engine is direct injection so carbo cleaning might be needed if driven on short trips. Otherwise parts are cheap (308) labour expensive, so DIY advisable. Engine life expect 130k miles from petrol models , diesel can go for over 250k miles

Do the make peugeot cars with the steering wheel on the left side besides this peugeot on the video that I guess is for Indian market that has the steering wheel on the right?

This is a British review, therefore it is right hand drive. Peugeot is a French brand and much like the rest of Europe, they drive on the right and therefore there are far more left hand drive examples in the world. You can import them once they turn 25 years old as I believe that is the USA law on importing foreign cars.
