How does the throw out bearing secure itself to the pressure plate?

It's a friction / hydraulically pressed on when the clutch is pressed down.

Great video! Label on the QJ should be under the heaviest part of the car

What page in the manual does it say that?? Curious

@@DasCayman From a physics standpoint, Iit makes sense you want the weight over the side where the leg of the QJ protrudes more. It is more stable on the side that it sticks the car out more from the base of the QJ. Practically however, I doubt it makes much of a difference. Especially when you have it lifted as high as @DasCayman does.
The much bigger problem here is that the car is at one point completely being supported in the rear by the oil pan. That is a huge no-no because if your engine mounts are worn, they can actually rip out. You should only lift from the oil pan when you need to support the engine while you have the rest of the car on fixed jack stands. You're essentially supporting something like 65% of the weight of the car using the engine and transmission mounts. You never lift from the oil pan on the 997. You want to use the huge square aluminum supports the rear lower control arms mount to.

QJ has a video saying they recommend the label under the heaviest part BUT it is still OK to have them facing the other way too, just make sure to have the stands oriented where the locks are always facing out from the car.

I've watched hundreds of DIY on TH-cam and yours are excellent! Thank you for putting in the effort to produce quality vids. May I ask what the purpose of this particular removal was? (Sorry if I missed it). Service or upgrades?

Hey I really appreciate that feedback. I personally feel my video quality is only a C+, but I don't want to obsess with making them perfect... it would detract from getting content out there for others to learn from.
The reason I'm pulling the trans out is to fix a 6th gear pop out issue that local shops were not able to diagnose or solve so I'm taking matters into my own hands.

Please nobody keep the car completely supported by the oil pan. The central subframe is more than likely OK, but the best place to support the rear of the car are the huge aluminum supports the the back of the rear lower control arm bolts to.

Can I ask your best source for service manuals? Whether you purchase online or download for free? I'm having trouble finding, specifically for 997.2.

Awesome video! How realistic is this for me to do myself? You make it look so easy! I’ve changed out radiators on my 997.2 GT3, done oil changes, brake pads etc but never anything this extensive. Could be a nice winter project. Was thinking of doing the 4.0 clutch, fly wheel, ring and pinion

It’s all in the trans jack… and then patience putting it back in… you can do it. Don’t think otherwise. Just need a couple of key tools.

@ awesome! That’s my winter project! The car won’t be out for a couple of months when it’s really bad so can take my time. Thanks! 💪🏼
