Truly fascinating to find someone who hates Chapter 3 since it's a fan favorite. I usually blast through this chapter since I've played this game so many times.
and Rawk Hawk too. People LOVE the dude, personally a meh for me. I have no particularly strong feelings towards Chapter 3 as a whole though, just thought it's interesting that they're shaking up the formula a bit on purely focusing on battling and less exploration
I mean I think it depends on how much you love the combat system. Most people that hold TTYD in high regard often cite the battle system as being a highlight. So a chapter that is just an excuse to do nothing but fight over and over, especially with the fun pro-wrestler aesthetic and all the classic tropes that come with it, is a highlight for many. But RT mentioned that while he doesn't seem to hate the combat system, he's not nearly as blown away by it as most are, and he's clearly not a fan of the pro wrestling tropes, so this just became a chapter where you do nothing but go through fight after fight.
Chapter 3 was not my favorite 😂 I love this game, but I found the wrestling fights very grindy. To me the best part of the chapter was definitely finding the Yoshi, he quickly became my favorite partner
I’ve got to say, as a big fan of this game and chapter 3, I can see where RT is coming from. He’s expressed this battle system just isn’t his favorite compared to others. Being that as it may, battle after battle would definitely drag on
For those that are in need of money, you can get a lot in the pit of 100 trials quickly. Don't be afraid and don't forget you have star powers and there are badges for fp recovery.
i don't think i've seen a single playthrough yet (including my own) where someone KNOWS to wait for the timing on the peach dance minigame. we all assume that when the thing runs out we miss our chance lol. i forget if it was like that in the original tbh i don't think it was though part of me feels like chat's gonna lead RT into a permadanger run or something lol 1:54:07 ZOMG YOU'RE RIGHT HOW DID I NEVER KNOW 2:30:51 I experience this dilemma too sometimes... WHY IS DON PIANTA THE JUDGE I LOVE IT 2:51:27 oh... i never noticed that button... wdym chapter 3 "feels like a bit of a chore" YOU GET TO DO BATTLES, TTYD BATTLES ARE GREAT 3:52:02 skipped triple flip and meow, 4.5/10 3:55:45 LOOOL 3:59:38 NOOOO RT TOO?! I got Green Yoshi and was so disappointed... 4:01:04 I actually considered this as the ONE GOOD NAME for a Green Yoshi, DAYS after I named mine Heart-Star-Exclamation Point-Question Mark, in reference to Geno (It was with the actual symbols of course). Although in my case it's just because his jump attack is sort of similar and also it's like Mario named the Yoshi AFTER Luigi, plus a Luigi partner in Paper Mario would be cool as a secret 4:01:58 CLOSE ENOUGH 4:54:18 Teehee RT WAS EEPY?! THAT'S A TERRIBLE WAY TO EXPERIENCE THE LATTER HALF OF A CHAPTER FOR THE FIRST TIME, ANY GAMEPLAY IS WAY MORE TEDIOUS IF YOU'RE EEPY AND WANT BEDTIME BREAKING OUT THE TOAD VOICE FOR MUSH LET'S GOOOO also it wasn't resurrection magic, mush was trapped using the crystal star's power, boom 6:18:44 FIGHTS ARE SO GREAT IN TTYD YOU SLIPPERY SNAIL!!
As soon as you said you got bored partway through your original run I figured it was glitzville... ironic that what is probably my least favorite chapter has my favorite partner (although I should not have had the ability to name him... don't think nintendo expected Yotwinki as a name)
I never really cared about the combat in this chapter however I really love the story I think it’s so fun the like murder mystery vibe was fun to play through :3 however my favorite chapter will always be 4 because I just love doopliss and Vivian
The twitch chat backseat gaming while knowing literally nothing about the game irks me so bad 😷😷😷 Yall telling him the pit of 100 trials is basically end game content. He's never gonna get the bag at this point 🤦♀️
Also, to be fair, RT clearly really, really did not want to do the trials the moment he realised it was a thing. He was looking for anyyyyyy reason to not do them and had clearly talked his way out of doing it before the end game comment came up :')
Id definitely place Origami King as my favorite paper mario, if just because i adore the world design and exploration was fun as hell Mario & Luigi its a toss up between Partners and Dream Team, i loved those games
I love you RT, just catching up on this series offline. Don't listen to them comments, internet kids don't understand how to talk to people. Have fun, excited to watch all of it.
I'll be honest, I find it kinda strange how RT finds this chapter to be a slog, and it really hurts his enjoyment of the game it seems...yet he loves/really likes Super Paper Mario and Origami King. Chapter 2, 6, and 7 in SPM are quite sloggy, as are the battles in PMTOK. They often interupt flow, and have ideas that go on for too long, but he doesn't seem to mind those from what I can tell? I just find it to be a weird combination of opinions.
He's stated he doesn't like the combat system. If I'm remembering correctly, this chapter is almost entirely combat with a mystery in between fights. It makes perfect sense he's not a fan. It does suck, but ah well. Not every game is for everyone
Unpopular opinion, but I liked Super Paper Mario more. Not saying this game wasn’t good, but... well... it always seemed overhyped to me. It was like a copy paste of the last game (party ability wise). The Locations the chapters took place in were nice, but the stories always seemed lacking for the standards people had said it was set for. One obvious example is the “Creepy Steeple” chapter(I forgot the exact number, sue me). Please don’t crucify me in the replies, differing opinions exist. The world is not a vacuum, you know. I accept that not many people liked Super Paper Mario as much as I did. Why shouldn’t you do the same for me?
so are you saying you HATE the thousand year door? i agree that it feels like a clone of pm64(not only party but also the story follows alot of the same beats remixed)but despite that it still has alot of strengths. its probably my least favorite out of the original 3 but despite that there's absolutely a reason why people hype it up and love it :] remake fixed alot about creepy steeple btw. if you're talking about the back tracking
I actually prefer PM64’s party cast a lot more. We get Kooper, Bow, Watt, Sushi, Parakarry, Bombette… yeah pretty much the entirety of your party have excellent designs. I wish they remade that one. I hope they remake it next before moving on to a potential sequel.
I also like Super Paper Mario better, but this game will always hold a special place in my heart. Personally I love the story, but I'm an RPG hater. They have a good battle formula going on, sure, but after a while I start skipping enemies. It always makes the pits, both glitz and 100, unbearable for me. As for SPM, you're on an RT video. We love SPM in this house. It's lovely marriage between Paper Mario and classic sidescroller Mario games, with it's own original story and gimmicks sprinkled in there. Tbh I'm surprised to hear it's not as popular? I'm sure when it came out it was _hated_ for trying to be so different from the last two. After all I heard somewhere that it was a big reason why future Paper Mario games we're less creative with characters and story. Really disheartening if true. But yeah dude no one's gonna crucify you here lol. You're opinions are valid and ironically I will fight anyone who disagrees with that.
I used to LOVE this chapter as a kid. But replaying it for like the 4th time I've come to kind of dread this chapter. All the battles are so scripted feeling and sometimes you get the dreaded can't change your partner restriction on top of some of the enemies you fight later can make you have to re do some of these rather tedious fights quite annoying. It's still a great chapter but loses it's staying power quite rapidly on multiple playthroughs.

I thought it was a fan favorite solely because of Yoshi. I know that’s what I felt.
and Rawk Hawk too. People LOVE the dude, personally a meh for me. I have no particularly strong feelings towards Chapter 3 as a whole though, just thought it's interesting that they're shaking up the formula a bit on purely focusing on battling and less exploration

Just played the game blind recently for the first time, and man I loved chapter 3, I found 2 much more of a slog, then again I love the combat in TTYD
I think that’s really the difference. If you vibe with the combat you love this chapter, otherwise it seems to be a chore
it's okay RT. not every opinion can be a banger.

I require a barbecue stream
get a greenscreen behind the grill to hide the house/yard
no way it will backfire and actually get on fire
Trust me folks I’ve never learned to hate a chapter as much as the Glizzy pit, keeping yourself awake through sheer willpower at 1am changes a man
I think there were a bit too many battles but the story was pretty nice, I really liked the Glitzpit. The pirate island was awful tho
I hated the glitz pit and i didn’t even play it at 1 AM
As soon as you said you got bored partway through your original run I figured it was glitzville... ironic that what is probably my least favorite chapter has my favorite partner (although I should not have had the ability to name him... don't think nintendo expected Yotwinki as a name)

to be fair if you do the pit of 100 trials before endgame you end up ridiculously overlevelled for the next chapter or 2
Also, to be fair, RT clearly really, really did not want to do the trials the moment he realised it was a thing. He was looking for anyyyyyy reason to not do them and had clearly talked his way out of doing it before the end game comment came up :')
I dunno, at 3:30:00 when RT didn’t know to butt-stomp the switch, I think he needed more backseating 😆
Id definitely place Origami King as my favorite paper mario, if just because i adore the world design and exploration was fun as hell

it makes me sad they changed Rawk Hawks theme in that it seems, it was sooooo good
