What really gets me is the 9mm fanboys will bash the 40S&W as a "high pressure" round, but then buy 9mm+p ammo.
9mm standard ammo runs at 33,000 psi.
    9mm +P ammo runs about 38,500 psi.
    40S&W doesn't have a +P load and runs at 33,900 psi.
The high pressure gripe is a myth.
Recoil is higher on a 40S&W than on a 9mm which is inevitable when you shoot heavier bullets. It's an inescapable fact. But the 45ACP shoots even heavier bullets and only get's away with lower recoil because the guns are heavier.
A loaded G30 (45ACP subcompact) weighs 33.69oz and a loaded G27 (40S&W subcompact) weighs 26.46oz. That's about half a pound lighter. By contrast the loaded G26 (subcompact 9mm) weighs 25.75oz which is less than an ounce lighter than the G27.
What people REALLY cant seem to figure out is that 40S&W doesn't just have 180gr and 165 gr loads. There are loads out there with 100gr, 115gr, 135gr, 140gr, 150gr and 155 gr bullets. It's absolutely crazy how many options there are for the 40S&W.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a .40. No, it doesn't mean that I think the 9mm is a bad round, 9mm is an outstanding round as well. Living in CA. we are limited to 10 rounds, be it 9mm, 45 acp or .40 s&w. So capacity is irrelevant here, so shoot whatever you feel you can hit your target.

40 isn't a "high pressure" cartridge like everyone says it is. Rather 40 has a shorter pressure curve and achieves peak pressure sooner than some other handgun cartridges. They mostly all operate at similar pressures when comparing the 9mm to 40s&w. I know Yeager always howls high pressure this and high pressure 40'll get'cha killed. It's just that people haven't taken the time to research and the reason 40 is snappy is because peak pressure develops more rapidly in combustion and your slinging a heavier bullet than most 9mm projectiles. Bottom line is right now 40 is economical so why not have one. They penetrate barriers pretty well and the Federal 180gr FMj out of my glock 22 break just over 1000 fps and they have an nice big flat on the bullet nose. It makes an outstanding field pistol better than my 9mmr for sure. In fact my glock 22 40 cal is my answer to my 357 mag for a field handgun. It works just as well for me and for less cost. The difference is I've hunted with 9mm, 40, and 45, 45colt, 454, and 475. I know what each does to living tissue. 40 is a better performer than 9mm in all ways except it can't be shot as rapidly.

Have had a 2nd gen. glock 22 since 1991. No I do not shoot 10K rounds on a monthly basis, but shoot it often. Still working, and has not worned out nor has it exploded. It's interesting that just about anyone who claims that .40 caliber pistol will wear out go on and use 9mm +p, which will also wear out. The .40 is a high pressure round, but so is a 9mm when subjected to +p pressures, it will also wear out the pistol faster.

The USP was specifically built around the .40. H&K did it right. That’s the reason why it’s so soft shooting. IMO the FBI is the reason why the .40 declined in popularity. Their so called “testing and evaluation “ revealed that modern day 9mm was far superior than the .40 so majority of firearm owners and law enforcement agency decided the FBI must be correct. It’s the current trend. Paul Harrell has an excellent video of 9mm vs. .40 and it basically dispels that myth. 15 years from now the FBI will say the .22 long rifle is far superior than the 9mm and everyone will switch over.

I've never shot a 40 so I don't really have an opinion on them.

They're fun guns to shoot and there are definitely some cool guns chambered for the round but 45acp is definitely my favorite!

      @@TerriblyTactical I prefer 9mm but I like 45acp too.
