I'd watched the first two seasons, rented the movie, and then was neck deep into season 3 of this show as a 90s kid around 1993, seeing it in reruns on SciFi's Cartoon Quest. Since there was no Net in those days, Prime's return surprised the hell out of me. Cullen saying, "Light our darkest hour," combined with the song had ten year old me cheering as well as tearing up a bit.
I’ll admit, first time I saw this episode and got to this part. Not only I was surprised but also like that’s my song and I did sing along when it played.
And that brought the close to what had been a very messy season for “Transformers”. In fact the ending felt more like a cliffhanger that made no sense.
I disagree. While I'm not on board with the reasons they did it (to drive new toy sales), Prime's death was a polarizing moment for a lot of us kids in the 80's. It showed us that heroes do in fact die, and honestly, he should have just stayed dead, as it would have lent a lot of weight to his sacrifice, and would have still weighed heavily on Hot Rod's conscience. His death in the movie was one of the most iconic moments of 80's entertainment. I hated it when it happened as a kid, but I absolutely applaud it as an adult.

This scene really saved the transformers series without a doubt.
It did light their darkest hour.
@@blueeyeddrago3540oh no doubt, hence why it's become apart of the transformers lore and myth.

Trump lost. Good
Shame we had to delte all rhe libraries for a light
Stan Bush singing = Evil just lost
2020 definitely needs a leader, with the power & wisdom to light our darkest hour.
Ha ha- Galvatton has a gigantic plasma blaster on his arm, but still intends to murder Prime with a sharp stick. 😆
Well he is crazy
This was personal
"No, I will crush you with my bare hands!"
Now light our darkest hour

Perfect use of the song! 10/10! God, I love Transformers!
Same here dude
The Matrix is a radio, and it plays this song, in true 80's fashion, power pop is the way to beat evil
If transformers was to end I wished it ended like this where it took a pandemic like this where they made peace.
Optimus Prime has the touch. He's got the power!
YEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAH !
To me this is the definitive end of the original Transformers series.
Optimus prime is alive.
HE'S BACK!
So in the movie,Prime just meant that the one to light the darkest hour would be him!
Optimus Prime has returned..
Two Primes of G1: Optimus prime and Rodimus Prime
The Matrix Has The Power of Music
We need this for covid-19
💯
This was such an amazing way to wrap up season 3.
Who isn’t afraid to admit they got chills here?
Easily the best 2 episodes in Season 3
someakatsukifromcanada 9 my opinion, this is the best two-parter in the entire G1 Cartoon. Loved this episode so much.
a bit chaotic but can agree this was a damn good episode. Also not a bad pandemic episode in terms of animation.
Agreed these 2 episodes are 2 of my favorites in the whole series
These are also the only 2 episodes worth watching in season 3 💀💀

Exactly how covid-19 should end
I love how Jessica and Gregory are in like Iraq and then 10 seconds later they’re here with the transformers LMAO

You might’ve noticed that this song plays just as Galvatron is about to kill an Autobot leader.
A friend of mine and I kept thinking optimus was playing 'the touch' through his radio
That's some real Deus Ex Machina right there.
Hearing that song in this show was a pleasure for me. And it really gave me that sense of deja vu.

YOU GOT THE TOUCH!!!
Something tells me that the phrase "Now light our darkest hour" refers to situations that threaten everything
I love that song
Im actually convinced that hasbro has the rights to use this song whenever they want
The song is a classic.
For me, The Return of Optimus Prime parts 1 and 2 is the end of G1. Same how I feel about DOTM
You and friend of mine both.
Optimus didn't even have to pull the matrix opened for him. Proving Hot Rod unworthy
He’ll pass the Torch to Bee instead.
The Matrix itself chose Hot Rod. It felt he had...The Touch.
@@Dorelaxen nah he had to pull it open

Step aside Rodi-noob. Make way for the true Prime.
Who all agrees that this could’ve been the Series Finale instead of the 3-pt Rebirth episode?
