11:00 Many ancient Greeks were born in places that are today parts of Albania, Turkey, Ukraine (or Russia since there's an ongoing war there) and Italy. Ancient Macedonians indeed spoke a Greek dialect before they adopted koine Greek as the lingua franca after the conquests of Alexander, and their own names and identity were Greek as well.
There's the perception that some southern Greeks like the Athenians did not consider Macedonians as Greek, even though they were allowed to take part in the Olympic games which back then were exclusive to Greek male athletes, but that perception is flat out wrong. There were very few Athenian demagogues who claimed Macedonians were "barbarians" out of political rivalry, wishing to rile the Athenian public against Phillip II, namely Demosthenes whose own mother was rumored to have been Scythian.
But in the Athenian democracy it was common to call each other as well as other Greeks "barbarians" as an insult. If anyone challenges that or simply wants to know where I base this, I'll be happy to provide sources.

Alexander the Great was Greek, the ancient Macedonians worshipped the Greek gods, they spoke Greek, Greek culture, they could participate in the Olympian games which back then you could only do that if you were considered Greek etc. The same thing like Spartans, atheniens etc those were all Greeks but from different city states.
Final note Alexander the Great was born in Greek Macedonia hundred and hundred of years before any slavic people came and settled in the northern part of Macedonia but they share nothing with ancient Macedonias or Alexander.

Why did the Achaemenid Empire want to conquer Greece?
Athens and Eretria were a major source of support for the Ionian revolt, a rebellion of ethnic Greeks in Asia Minor. After this, the Persians saw the existence of independent Greek city states as a threat to the stability of the western half of their empire.

There isn't any difference between a Greek and a Macedonian apart from the last being a Greek under a monarchy. Also Alexander the great in his letters pretty much expressed his anger towards Persian about Greece.

Actually many things in the video are wrong. We don't do mostly name days but we celebrate both of them. Earthquakes are very frequent here and we historically have had very big earthquakes above 8 or around with subsequent tsunamis and we have volcanoes (Santorini is basically one massive caldera and at its center is an active but sleeping volcano) since we are in a thrust zone. But what's true is that we indeed have the most severe ones in the sea which saves the situation a bit. Mainland Greece has had many earthquakes in the last 50 years alone that have been above 6.0 but few have been deadly (last one was the Mount Parnitha earthquake here in Athens in 1999 with 143 dead due to few extremely badly made buildings). We're actually sixth most seismically active country. Also what he said about our beef with Turkiye is not true but it's extremely complicated to explain too... I'm an International Relations analyst (in a way) so believe me when i say it's sooo damn complicated. Men don't go into the Army at 16 but 18 if they chose to do this other wise they get postponements until they finish University. The law about Voting hasn't been implemented in decades but yes if you wouldn't go in to vote a police officer would come looking. Most people do not go in to vote lmao and mostly Millennials like me and under. And Lastly Ioannis Kapodistrias wasn't the leader of the Revolution but our first Governor before the Great Powers thought it was best we had a King. Fun fact I am a descendant of the family from my Paternal Grandmother.

Hey, it's the first (as far as I can tell) of Keith! He's the chonky dude with the big, curly hair who appeared briefly with sexy Noah. He'll be your music guy once Geography Now starts having more segments in their videos.

What separates the modern day whatever is to the north of Greece is that they indeed do not speak the same language today and nothing else is Greek about it.

People from Skopje were indoctrined by nazis to say they were the real ancestors of Alexander, just to separate them from the rest serbians that were allies with greece. Their whole identity comes from a nazi idea.. Kudos

for some reason all through my life I have always gotten into bad arguements with Greeks... not sure why, as I do not have that with any other nationality (and no, I am neither Turkish or Macedonian).

@@freudsigmund72 Dude don’t start an argument with a Greek, if you are not prepared to lose, or at least lose your temper. We like talk fights. This is something in our nature and at the end, it helps things evolve, in a constructive or even in a catastrophic way LOL
But every catastrophe is a new beginning anyway, right? Common sense, generally accepted staff or even rules and laws, sometimes limit the exploration boundaries and we love to define them and go beyond, in an argument! We love to open new doors and check what lies on the other side.
It is possible that you may have argued with Greeks, that even they were accepting your points of view, they chose to oppose, for their own reasons.
It is also possible that you may have some points of view that are not compatible with the Greek mentality in general.
Greece is the land of diversities anyway. Too small country, but very proud of the massive influence on the western civilization even if we, the modern Greeks, are not able continuers of our ancestors, for various reasons….
