    Hi mate! Awesome one!These simple things actually make life much easier... Just a short clarification in regards to options.ini. It needs to exit model without saving to keep changes in the file. Otherwise, if you exit with saving the model Tekla will wipe it out. Alternatively, close Tekla down and change options.ini>Save the file> Open the model.

    • @CSWilsonDraws
      @CSWilsonDraws  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Good point about saving the options.ini. I left out the part about exiting Tekla without saving.
      Thanks for watching closely!

    Just one caveat with orienation wheel - it spams the undo list, which is annoying sometimes.

    • @CSWilsonDraws
      @CSWilsonDraws  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!
      I guess I never noticed before how the orientation wheel affects the undo command. That's kind of strange, but I suppose it also makes sense. It appears to log each 5 degree step in the undo list as you spin it around. You're right in saying it's annoying. Thanks for the comment! Good catch!

    On same way can be added and shortcut for command"Remove unnecessary drawing files" to remove all dg files what are crated for erased drawings, and minimize used space for the model.Very useful command.

    • @CSWilsonDraws
      @CSWilsonDraws  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed! That was actually the first User menu command I added when I was using V20.0.

    this video is great, what a presenter, but i'm disappointed you didn't add my tip and trick from the forum about a CTRL+P that stays zoomed in, but then again you may not use CTRL+P much as you always have your 3D view and plan views open on your screens. In case that tip would help anyone else, try this in 2016 upwards:
    CTRL+P to stay zoomed in.
    • Go to Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts.
    • Find and clear “Switch to 3D or plane”
    • Change it to something new, like CTRL+[
    • Press ASSIGN.
    • Find “Zoom Selected” change to something close, maybe CTRL+]
    • Press ASSIGN & Close.
    • Go to Component Catalog.
    • Go to the menu and chose Record Macro, Global.
    • Name it something like “3D to Plan”.
    • Hold CTRL
    • Press [
    • Press ]
    • Release CTRL.
    • Click “Stop Recording”
    • Go back up to Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts.
    • Find “Macro.3D to Plan”
    • Assign the shortcut CTRL+P to this new macro.
    BOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!
    now when you have an object selected and you CTRL+P it, it will turn it to Plan view but still zoomed in on that object and you won't need to go zooming in and finding where you last where in the model.

    Hey CS.... great stuff. But at 4:18 why do you have some options variables that I do not seem to have on my system?

    • @CSWilsonDraws
      @CSWilsonDraws  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I have been adding to my options.ini for a while now. I'm not sure why some of the settings were originally added, but unless you're using a really old version of Tekla Structures, I think most are available in all versions (except for XS_USE_OLD_DRAWING_CREATION_SETTINGS, that was introduced around V21 or so).

    • @CSWilsonDraws

      I'm not familiar with v18.1, but if the XS_MDI* variables are in the advanced options, setting them to false should work. I can't find any other information for v18.1 since the Tekla User Assistance website only goes back to v19.

    Yesssss this is wonderful & useful settings work in multiple window but I have a question if I maximize the window, ribbon tool bar is not possible access is there any other settings to work in maximize window with access to tool bar that is great
    Once again thanks for sharing

    • @CSWilsonDraws
      @CSWilsonDraws  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I'm reading this correctly, when you maximize a view on the same monitor that the ribbon is located, the view covers up the ribbon. If that is your situation, then this cannot be avoided. It's best to manually resize any views that are on the same monitor that the ribbon is located.

    First tip (expanding to multiple monitors by changing those three MDI SOMETHING settings) didn't work on v16.1. Am I the only one using that version?

    • @CSWilsonDraws
      @CSWilsonDraws  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure I can help with that, V16.1 is before my time. I started with V19.0/V19.1 and the XS_MID... settings worked without any problems. Are the XS_MDI... settings visible in the Advanced Options for V16.1? I tried to look this up but the Tekla User Assistance website only goes back to V19.0, so information is limited.

    • @blitzkrieg6161
      @blitzkrieg6161 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi dude, have you ever try to load any complicated shape from solidworks to tekla? What is the best way?

    • @CSWilsonDraws
      @CSWilsonDraws  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've imported a few things into Tekla Structures. I don't know what software generated them, but STEP files work pretty well. From my experience, the easiest and most reliable import comes from SketchUp (.skp files).

    • @spyridonstavrou4639
      @spyridonstavrou4639 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dear Wilson, Can I convert stp files to skp files? The reason that I am asking is because I never used sketch up. What is the best way to load stp files?

    • @CSWilsonDraws
      @CSWilsonDraws  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have stp files, there's really no reason to go through SketchUp. Just import the stp directly into Tekla Structures.

    • @spyridonstavrou4639
      @spyridonstavrou4639 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can create any stp file from solidworks. My question is if there is any more proper way. For example if I have a surface with double curvature I am importing it as an item but the analysis in Tekla is a little bit awful

    • @CSWilsonDraws
      @CSWilsonDraws  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t have a lot of experience with importing complex geometry. It’s not something I’ve really needed to do. You might be better off to contact the Tekla help desk.
