  • Practicing for my MSF course! In this video, I’m continuing my motorcycle learning journey by practicing figure 8s, swerving, emergency stopping, shifting gears and more!
If you're new to riding a motorcycle, or if you're just looking to improve your skills, be sure to check out this video series! In each video, I practice different skills so that you can learn the basics of riding a motorcycle with me! Stay tuned for more motorcycle learning videos, as I move on to more advanced techniques! Once I begin my MSF course, I hope to take some vlog footage of the class and make a video showing you what you can expect to learn and get tested on. My class is in two days so wish me luck!!! :)
If you haven't seen my first video where I get on the bike for the very first time, here's the LINK to DAY 1: Learning How To Ride A Honda Rebel

Turning your head is absolutely one of the most important things when manoeuvring.
The long and short of it is you go where you look, so look where you want to go ;)

The MSF course is super fun. I remember when I took it I was apprehensive because I just didn't know what to expect and I had a friend that did it before and didn't do well and never rode again. But when I got there and started relaxing, all the parking lot drills just seemed like a fun challenge and the instructors really want you to succeed so they gave great feedback. Enjoy it! You'll do great!

Rea. I find it entertaining, not because of any mistakes, nervousness, etc., etc. you have but to see you courageously going ahead with it and seeing you progress. That is the entertaining part. I am a teacher in a couple of different areas and I get my satisfaction from seeing my students "getting it", just like you are with the bike. Keep on going, gal!

I first started riding (off-road) at 9 1/2 years old. Kinda felt like growing up on em and yeah it was awesome. Mentioned to my wife that I was thinking of getting another bike, haven't ridden in about 25 years. She kinda shocked me by instantly responding with "ooh can I ride it too"!
That's how I ended up watching these videos at 2am.
Our local motorcycle course has a "try it out" class for new riders. I'm going to have her try that and if she's still interested go from there. Well and have her watch these videos so she kinda knows what to expect.👍

It is amazing that you are taking such measured and thoughtful steps into your motorcycling journey. People looking to get into motorcycling can definitely learn from your ways and your journey as a whole!
One think I would like to recommend you consider doing as you get more comfortable is changing how you interact with the controls on the handlebar.
Using one or two fingers for actuating clutch and brake levers while loosely wrapping (not gripping) rest of the fingers around the grip/throttle will provide you more control in a few ways.
You'll be less likely to grab the clutch or the brake levers.
More gentle and progressive application of the brake lever is possible.
It'll be easier to slip the clutch through the friction zone.
If you hit an obstacle or an imperfection on the road, you'll be less likely to give unintended input through those controls and allow the motorcycle to self correct more easily.
I struggled with this myself for a time especially because I have big palms but shorter fingers. It just takes trial and practice.
Some people use just their index fingers, some use index and middle fingers, some use middle and ring fingers and some use a combination of one and another for left and right hand controls.
Good luck with your MSF course!

  • @cyclefrst7799
    @cyclefrst7799 ปีที่แล้ว +3

You'd have to practice stop and go. (Get your feet off the ground.) It must be muscle memory. All other skills can wait. Stop n go 100 times and if you don't stall, do it again. Mastering the clutch friction zone is the key to build low speed skills. Advance to practice drills on hills, and areas where conditions are not ideal. (Avoid dangerous public roads above all.)
Passing MSF does not mean you know how to ride.
Moto confidence comes from within. When you are sure that you can handle all road conditions having never been there, that's when you should call your self a motorcyclist.
    Good luck.

After you finish with practicing and start daily driving the motorcycle, you want to have some protection to your elbows and kneecaps. Gravel roads can make surprises, even at very slow speeds, if attention slips even for a half of second.

I never rode anything other than a bicycle and did ok up until the final but still passed. I can’t emphasize enough using rear brake to help on low speed maneuvers. Also things to consider...some states you might need a copy of your county birth certificate not hospital one to get your license. Might want to look into that in case you live out of that area could take a week to get a copy if mailed.

@@lesoram6236 you have to take a state accepted class like the msf. If you take the msf you don’t have to take a written or skills test at the dmv it’s all included. This way you learn to get your leg / foot out of the way. I'm serious, practice dropping it.! Then, you see that it's not the end of the world and if done right, you will not even get hurt.
