Kata without Bunkai is useless I agree with Motobu-Sensei he's a True Master and Warrior always proving the power of Karate against Boxers, Judo Masters and Japanese Jiu Jitsu Fighters he's 100 times better than Funakoshi.
Motobu said the same about Funakoshi and had some damning things to say about his Karate. They even had a match where Motobu defeated him easily. Motobu' books greatly changed my perception about Karate and made me view Funakoshi karate as nothing more than watered down school boy Karate devoid of any practical aspects, stripped of anything good except exercise. Motobu said Funakoshi Karate looked good on the outside but was hollow on the inside.
It would be easy to agree with you but I’ve also heard convincing arguments that, without Funakoshi’s influence and karate’s inclusion in the Japanese school system, it might have disappeared.
@chrishansen9379 fair point indeed. Especially after WWII. With Okinawa being tiny, we may never have even experienced it. But my goodness, why a watered down version? Too dangerous in it's uniqueness? Able to rival the kung fu of China? Holding it's own against the Japanese styles? Would it have been as effective if Mabuni started it first?
I'm suspicious that the maker of this video thinks all karate is long range point scoring sport stuff It's not Motobu was one of many old school Okinawan masters that trained in the original style of grappling joint breaking throwing was all part of KARATE
Motobu beat a lot of Judo Masters and Japanese Jiu Jitsu Masters because Motobu also know Grappling and Okinawa Karate are complete different of Sport Karate that are a limited striking sport.

Douglas I agree with you I hate the watered down sports stuff aswel
Agreed, sport karate has a place but a small one that shouldn't be focused on. It grew out of control and overshadows the real martial arts.
Funakoshi ruined karate. Sold out to politicians to make it a sport
